This is an alternative to other fast food Mexican restaurants like Chipotle or Cafe Rio. The restaurant was clean and the staff polite. The tacos were bigger than expected. Not as flavorful as I thought but good for a quick lunch. I had a limited time mangonado drink that was $7.99. Looked good, probably wouldn't get another. My husband and I have been going here almost every Tuesday since it opened. The food has always been been good and the hospital excellent. Today however was very disappointing. My husband always orders the barbacoa taco on the buy two get one free Tuesday special. Today was no different however the amount of meat in each taco was about a tablespoon. Completely unacceptable. The section for the rice and beans in both of our plates were only half full. His Barbacoa was COLD. I ordered two carne asada and one chicken as usual. I practically had to beg for a decent amount of toppings in each taco. Needless to say this trip was very disappointing and we have pretty much decided we will not be going back. We hadn't been here in quite a while. We spent the day at the park, and we're craving something different. The thing that is fun about eating a Mesquite is that it has a flavor of its own. You can top your tacos and burritos with anything they offer at no extra cost. You won't be seeing mini scoops here. They are generous with everything! A burrito is large enough for two. My husband is stuffed to the hilt. The taco was falling apart as soon as I picked it up. No complaints. I just filed what I could, and spooned up the rest. Such a treat enjoying the unique flavors. If you go expecting Chipotle flavor, you'll be disappointed. The flavor is way better. The servings are way smaller. But it does taste like you're eating an actual meal as opposed to a bowl jusy thrown together in your kitchen. The service lacked...it wasn't awful but felt like a bunch of highschoolers doing the bare minimum. I would have liked to know ahead of time I'd never be asked if I wanted anything on the quesadilla. It was yummy but cilantro and sour cream would have made it a 10/10 but I was never given the chance to add those things. Decided to stop in today to see if anything has changed. Parking area is still slim pickings. Hard to find a spot most days. I get there is nothing that an be done due to the business built around. We arrived around 430 to an empty restaurant., There were two workers that just looked miserable. I can see why because it was so dang hot inside. Poor guys trying to cook. If I was uncomfortable then I can only imagine working in it over the flat top. They were friendly however and efficient. I chose a chicken quesadilla and my husband orders a couple tacos. I asked for a side of rice, but when we received my order I had beans as well. The quesadilla was huge and I had to take half home. I chose green sauce thinking it would be hot, but had more of a sweet taste. Rice was good. Beans were dry. Tacos were good and red sauce definitely better. A few more people came in while we were eating, but took it to go. This stop a bit better than the last, but for the price you'd think it was a more sit down spot. We were actually going to stop by chipotle but I saw the sign for this place on the freeway and decided to change my mind. Had low expectations for this joint but was genuinely surprised. The meat was marinated well and they didn't skimp out on the servings. I loved the pickled onions and the salsa had a decent slice to it. The rice was cooked well and the beans were great. Overall I think it's better than chipotle and more "Mexican" -- resembling Mexican flavors better than chipotle, at least in my opinion. I just wish they had lettuce since I like to do half salad half rice. I also might be a little bias because I love refried beans. The quesadillas here are also much more hefty than Chipotle's. On 9/13/2024 My wife and I gathered the specific orders from our family (3 burritos with individual customizations and one order of tacos). We placed the order at 6:55pm and the pickup time was 7:14pm. When I picked up the order at the counter I asked the employee if the 3 burritos were marked in some way - as they were all different. He said no, and continued loading my bag. I said that was disappointing, since it will be hard to figure out whose burrito was which. He just stared at me and handed me the bag of food. I asked for the paper receipt he was working from so I'd have a chance to sort it out when I got home. For starters, I think the burritos may have been made immediately (around 6:54 PM) and sat in the warming bin, as this is what they looked like after unwrapping (dried and flaky). It's strange to me that the 2 burritos (both steak) are such different sizes - I had assumed the ingredients would be portioned evenly, more or less. We had to completely disassemble each burrito to determine which was which. In this case, I'd like to point out that none of the orders had tomatoes or salad (arugula maybe?) Perhaps the employee mistook salad leaves for cilantro? None of these 3 burritos were correct, but we tried to decide which burrito would satisfy which family member, but this is really not what I was expecting for a $50 takeout meal. One burrito was supposed to have red sauce, the other green, and the third was not supposed to have any salsa but appeared to have pico for some reason (and that family member does not like tomatoes - that family member elected to not eat their burrito). (Please note, that I tried contacting the info@ email address for the business, but they responded with a boilerplate 4 sentence reply and an offer for a $10 credit. The wife came by to pick up a bowl this afternoon, she was disappointed for the serving portions and made it aware and the gentleman serving said that's the portions they serve. Their green sauce it taste a little bit salty and the red sauce was very watery, it doesn't taste anything good besides the chicken. I got in line and noticed that the workers (2 ladies) had masks on, but hanging below their nose. No big deal to me personally, but if you are going to wear a mask, wear the mask properly, right? You look dumb with it half assed. Anyways........the 2 ladies were really friendly and personable so nothing against them as people or their customer service, I would just prefer to see a mask worn properly for the safety of others. I ordered a chicken burrito. Went down the assembly line and constructed my burrito, grabbed some napkins and salsas on the way out and took it out to my car to grub down. Here is how it was................ Chicken Burrito- I went with a chicken burrito which included rice, cabbage, cheese, pickled onions, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. If it tasted bad, it would be my own fault since I created the dang thing lol. The burrito itself was pretty heavy. Reminded me of a cross between a Rubios burrito and a Baja Fresh burrito. Not as fat as taco shops out in San Diego, but still a decent sized burrito for AZ standards. Taste was good! Nice tortilla that they warm up before, fluffy rice, melty cheese, decent amount of chicken as well as the addition of sour cream and guacamole. The chicken wasn't as good as the stuff I had on my taco the week before, but it was still decent (didn't get as much mesquite/smoke taste) and was an enjoyable burrito. Their salsa verde is pretty bomb, too. The 2 red salsas I got were just ok. Go with the green! Overall, pretty solid 4 star burrito. It's right next to my house, so I'm 100% sure I will be back soon to try out their carne asada and get some more of their tacos. (Cabbage, cheese, salsas and choice of sour cream or guacamole.) Meal is ment to feed three to four people. If not feeding a hungry teenager, that estimate is accurate. My hungry one somehow ate a bulging burrito and four tacos. Flame grilled chicken was well seasoned. Salsas were flavorful. Salsa verde is an enjoyable balance of spicy, sour and bright. It paired well with the chicken. Cabbage was fresh. There were plenty of toppings to construct the fifteen tacos. Tortillas were warm and soft. A reward program is available. So I am not impressed but not totally dis satisfied either. I expected a cafe rio type of environment and that's what it was. We ordered the family meal mixed with chicken and beef, a kids cheese crisp that would feed a baby, a bag of chips and salsa that looks like it would come in the kids meal but it was actually a side. The rice and beans were awful, canned beans for sure and the rice zero flavor. The only impressive thing was the meat the chicken was delicious and so was the carne. I don't know why it took me a whole year to finally try this place that recently-ish opened super close to us located by a Walmart. I got 3 steak tacos (flour tortilla) and omg so packed with all the goodies. I ordered online and so we didn't have to wait and able to just pick it up! I even ordered that chips and qual and that was fresh as well! Will def be ordering our tacos there again for sure for taco Tuesday I'm so happy I l finally have a taco spot close to me and not have to drive so far for one. For this visit today, 4 1/2 stars! Definitely recommend. Walked into the place and the smell of fresh meat grilling filled the air. Awesome! I ordered a steak burrito and a steak street taco. It's Tuesday, had to get the taco. The place only had 2 people sitting in the restaurant. Why? Beats me, should be more. Anyway, I went to the counter and a young gentleman greeted me within 15 seconds. Very friendly. Bonus points. He asked what I wanted and I told him. For the taco, steak and cheese with some pico on a corn tortilla which tasted very fresh. They do have flour if you so desire. For the burrito, steak with refried beans, Spanish rice, it was an orange color and had great flavor, cheese, cilantro, onions and their red hot sauce. They had other options but, I did it my way. Anyway, great flavors, everything tasted fresh, it was a little after 4pm on a rainy Tuesday. I went to chipotle two weeks ago after having not been there in over 5 years ago and was even more disappointed in the company. Higher prices, I get it, the wages. But, their portions are small and their tortillas are even smaller now. And the customer service at chipotle was as to be expected, lacking zero vibes. The service was good, the man behind the counter was friendly and very accommodating. The tacos were very generous in size and they did have a pretty complete salsa bar, including pickled onions, which I really appreciated. Not sure why this place has decent reviews. Came in at 11am and got some tacos. All the kids working there looked like they all wanted to jump off a cliff. Not a single one of them had a smile on their face. And looked like they didn't want to be there. Made the atmosphere not so great. All of the meat had been sitting out from the night before or something because all of the meat was dried up like a raisin. Got a great jaw workout trying to eat my food. Salsa both mild and hot had 0 flavor. Wanted to try something new and sometimes you find a good place and sometimes you don't. Shoulda known better as this is a franchise. Most franchises are out of touch and give bad food anyways. Another learning lesson. read more
