I sat at the counter where you get an eagle eye view of how the food is prepared and how efficient they are in the kitchen. I ordered an omelette (the name escapes me) that had chicken, asparagus, and Swiss cheese. It was pretty big and had a good egg to filling ratio. It came with probably 3 potatoes worth of hash browns (that I ended up taking home) and toast. The omelette was so good that I didn't touch anything else on my plate. We waited about 20 minutes as it was a packed house, got seated and had a friendly server come over immediately. She couldn't have had a more "needy" table as we all were having weird cravings, and wanted to create our own dishes if you will! Our friendship ordered the Bissel breakfast which was ALOT of food! When you though you were done order she asked "grits, hashbrowns or cheese grits!" AHH! He added mixed fruit to his pancakes and had the flavored hot coffee of the day. It hit the spot! I ordered a fruity Belgium waffle which I have not had in year! It was perfect with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and wiped cream on top! I also ordered 2 scrambled eggs on the side and they were scrumptious! Well portioned and cooked perfectly! My wife ordered the pot roast and felt she had tasted better from them before. This time the gravy was not thick it was more like a broth. Therefore t missed much of the flavor it had in previous trips to metro. However the pork was very tender. Overall this last visit changed my personal option of metro diner. Though they are pricy they offer some unique dishes that other diners do not have. Metro Diner is a fun go to spot for my lunch crew. I have been there for breakfast and lunch. The staff is generally very attentive. I have visited the locations on San Jose Blvd, Roosevelt, and the Beaches. The beaches location seems small to me but the food and service is great. Same with the other two locations. I have tried several things: there hamburgers are really good. I've tried the meatloaf and it was delicious. Of course the ever winning chicken and waffles. Loved the chicken not a fan of waffles so I get pancakes, which are huge and delicious. I ask for warm syrup which makes a difference to me. If you're vegan they have great salads. read more

If Young Metro don't trust you.... Chicken & Waffles man what's better? I've lived in JAX for a good part of my life and ironically haven't got around to go until I left and came back to visit because they were always so crowded. With Metro's extended hours it gives their customers flexibility and honestly their brunch food is good at anytime of the day, but they do offer alternatives to that. Their service at times can be super fast or an average wait time depending on if it's peak time or if they have food already ready to go aka the chicken & waffles prepped. After the waiter took my order she left I looked down and looked back up and there she was with their signature special. Their special syrup is good! I recommend dipping your chicken and waffles in it, but no pouring it over your waffles just in case you want your normal maple taste! Let me start off by saying that this review is based solely on the food, and not the service. Our waitress was very pleasant and prompt. Unfortunately, the food was uneatable. Of the five of us, the only one what was able to finish her meal, ordered pancakes. The food was incredibly greasy, gristly and either completely over cooked, or undercooked. I will give one example... I ordered the Frisco Breakfast Sandwich. The bread was grilled with oil. You could see it caked on the bread and plate. The grilled bread was far from completely cooked and you could taste that the grille had not been cleaned from whatever was previously cooked. I wasn't thrilled to taste the grits, which were prepared for another customer. The ham was piled high, but unfortunately, the ham was fatty and flavorless. The hash browns were burnt on the top and cold in the center of the dish. What this diner needs to remember, it's not just about the amount of food you're going to throw out on the plate, but quality. (Updated 23-Sep-15) One of the owners reached out to me to discuss my dining experience. I felt he took a genuine interest in my concerns regarding the meal. As I initially mentioned, the service at the restaurant was pleasant - and after speaking with the owner, I honestly feel they place a strong priority on customer service. Please understand that my table never complained about our food, which never gave the kitchen a chance to revisit our breakfast (and yes, it should have come out properly initially.) After speaking with him and reading some additional reviews, I'm willing to give this spot another chance in hopes it was a "one off moment" for the kitchen. (Updated 09-Jan-16) My family returned to the diner in hopes of giving this location another chance, and we were quite happy we did. We returned for lunch and had a wonderful experience. So this was my first visit. Our party of three were not impressed. We had potpie and chicken and waffles. To be honest half-way through eating the potpie, I suddenly felt like vomiting. The order of the chicken and waffles had to be redone, because it was not done right the first time. Even after the second time the chicken and waffle were prepared, we noticed the grease in which the chicken had been fried had not been change. The chicken tasted more like grease than chicken. The potpie had a tingle tangy taste to it. Would I order it again-no. Would I recommend it -no not based on my experience. Our restaurant was the Roosevelt Blvd, the Ortega location. Second visit, just to give the benefit of the doubt. This visit was a morning visit. To be fair this is based on the review of someone who purchased a breakfast chicken biscuit. The chicken tender was really small for the cost and the breakfast biscuit was dry. I'm not sure to what happened during our visit, but maybe this Metro is not for us. This was my first visit to the new Roosevelt location, and I was so pleased to see a larger dining area than the San Marco Metro that I frequent. We arrived at about 11:30 on a Wednesday & waited only 10 minutes. I decided to try a lunch dish since I usually have the breakfast food. I ordered a greek salad with blackened chick & it was delicious! I didn't love the greek dressing they originally gave me (seemed like oil & spices only) but once I switched to balsalmic, I was in heaven. I even had enough left over to save for dinner; two meals for once price is always a good thing. Others at my table had the tuna salad & chicken salad. Coffee: now this is where the "diner" comes in, BEST COFFEE EVER. They have an array of selections (flavor wise), but good ol fashion diner coffee is the smoothest. Biscuits & Sausage Gravy: homemade biscuits and gravy. Heaven in my mouth! This dish is huge, enough to feed 2 people, I ate the entire thing. A must try when in the "south". The special of the day was the Spicy fried chicken benedicts, my boyfriend tried this and let me tell you that if I had a second stomach, I would have ordered one myself. We obviously got the B team. Hubby got the shepherds pie, it was okay. MIL got the pot roast and the meat was so tough and the carrots raw, she could only eat the mashed potatoes. I got the turkey dinner and my food was cold. We then asked for biscuits and they brought old ones that appeared to be reheated in the microwave.
