Shrimp and Grits has always been a favorite of mine, so when I noticed Metro made their own variation,I decided to try it. Wow! Decadent shrimp, or maybe they were prawns. I'd like to start with a disclaimer, I ate here before it got too big and the quality was way better back then. Also, when it's not as crowded it's also better quality. My friend and I went on a Sunday at 10:30am (busiest times) and say at the breakfast bar. The breakfast bar is first come first serve and we didn't have to wait at all for the seats. I had the Mom's omelette and my friend had the 1/2 order of Huevos Rancheros. My omelette was good, but not as good as normal. Typically, they have the BEST omelettes, super fluffy. I also ordered extra crispy hash browns, but the outside was crispy and the inside was raw. My friend enjoyed her meal too. The waitress was nice and attentive as well. I will definitely be back. I just wasn't as impressed as normal. The woman next to us raved about their cheeseburger, which I will most definitely be trying next time! read more

Stopped in for lunch unaware that they closed at 2:30 every day. It was around 2:10 when we walked in.The staff was extremely nice and helpful even though it was almost closing time. This location was a lot cleaner than the baymeadows one. I had the All American burger with pasta salad and my husband had The Holy burger which is served on toast style bread ( grilled cheese ).They have tons of breakfast, lunch or dinner options to choose from. Definitely my favorite restaurant in Jacksonville. Everything on the menu is fantastic, especially the fried chicken and waffles, and yo halla.Love this place. Oh My GOODness!!! This is a great local diner my friend took me to while I was visiting her in Jax Beach. Upon her recommendation I got the chicken and waffles which I wasn't really in the mood for...I am So glad I got cause it was sooo good!! The fried chicken here ain't got nothin' on Texas southern fried chicken (where I currently live). The fried chicken was brought out hot and crispy, juicy on the inside and not oily at all! I'm not a fan of battered buttermilk fried chicken so I really enjoyed the light crispness of the chicken skin from here. The fried chicken is meant to be dipped with their sweet and spicy signature sauce which is made of Louisiana hot sauce and syrup mixed together- sounds weird but it really goes well with the chicken and gave it a little kick. The chicken is also served with 4 pieces of Belgium waffles topped with strawberry butter!!! Soo good, you don't even really need syrup to top the waffles with, the strawberry butter is sweet enough! My friend got the corned beef hash and it tasted very fresh- they literally used chopped up pieces of roasted corned beef- not the stuff in the cans I'm used to at other diners. If you're ever in Jax Beach I highly recommend you to check this place out for brunch!!! read more

Best breakfast I have had in a long time, that I did not have to cook myself. The pancakes are buttery and malty and had the right kind of fluffiness that absorbs syrup without getting mushy. Cinnamon Roll pancakes were 'divine'. The kids reported "Just the right amount of cinnamon." The Blueberry Compote was not as sweet has a nice sweet/sour flavor in line with the berry's. Cannot speak to the other parts of the menu, but if they are anything like the pancakes, you cannot go wrong. 4-Stars since only had one meal. My third trip to Metro Diner but my first at this location. A short wait at 11:30 am then we were serving Kris. Great personality and super helpful. I got the Stuffing Waffle, a board special. $12.49. My friend got the Bissell Breakfast. I've had that before. It looked great and my friend said it was good but she felt the scrambled egg portion was a bit small. The bacon was great and crispy and French toast was pretty buttery and yummy. Now about the Stuffing Waffle. Omg it was a waffle made from bread stuffing with onion and bell pepper and was tasty and very hot. This was covered in red jacket mashed potatoes and 5-6 nice slices of roasted turkey breast which was then covered in turkey gravy. Served with cranberry sauce on the side. I brought over half home. Great diner with extremely fast and friendly service. The breakfast quesadilla with chorizo sounded great but I had to try the chicken n waffles. I was not disappointed especially with the 5 pieces of tender juicy chicken and the fact that I had my food in less than 5 minutes. The strawberry spread was very tasty and not overly sweet so I never even used syrup. My coffee was hot and filled 3 times (I sound like Mr Pink from Reservoir Dogs). Came to this diner for breakfast with my nightshift crew after work. The service was excellent although the food took a little time to prepare. The food was great but not necessarily my kind of food. This I would say is more southern than I would like for it to be so the 5 stars is for southern cooking. I had the breakfast pie with the scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bell peppers, cubed potatoes, and ham. It was topped with cheese. It was good but then again I would have preferred carpaccio and other cold cuts with Swiss cheese in freshly baked croissant...make it two croissants. If you love southern breakfasts, this is a perfect diner for you. One of my coworkers had some dish with corned beef and it looked appetizing. You can opt to have half of an order. First of all- ginormous portions! Come hungry. Second of all, I have been a fan of Metro diner since I was a wee teenager. I always visited the San Marco location and just recently knew that they expanded to basically all of J-ville. The hostess was very nice and we only had to wait about 10 minutes (this is unique, be prepared to wait if you go during busy time!). The server seemed overbooked but was very sweet and attentive. If at any point in time you look up at the staff, someone comes over to make sure everything is ok! The coffee is A+! You can tell they clean the coffee pot and the beans are fresh. The creamer that is served on the table is kept cold (take note Denny's). My daughter had a child's portion of french toast. It is a huge portion that is probably enough for an adult. The french toast were heavy on the cinnamon; so, if you don't like Big Red gum, you won't like the french toast. I had the creamed chipped beef. I will be honest, this is something I would normally not order. I wanted to take a chance. I was pleasantly surprised- it was quite good! However, it is SOOO rich. Good thing Beaches Baptist Hospital is close by in case anyone has a myocardial infarction while they are eating! I kid... I also ordered the Philly Cheesesteak "salad" to go. I put quotes around the salad because yes, it does have lettuce. It also has a giant sized portion of blue cheese, french fries, and yummy steak. It is not yo mamma's salad. One thing I will say: we sat by the wall and there was a display of T-shirts that were pinned to the wall. The T-shirts had dust on them! Gross! Metro diner shame on you! Take the t-shirts down, clean them, and put them back up! When I go back and the t shirts are clean, I will change my review. I would give this place 4-5 stars if it weren't for the dirty T shirts on display! I I will go back to this location but my heart will always belong to San Marco :) read more

We've only ever been on Sundays and they have a huge wait. We usually sit outside and still have prompt service. The food is usually wonderful and if there is a mistake it's corrected immediately. Management roams around to make sure everything is great too. Their coffee flavors are usually worth the trip in itself (and coffee it available as you wait). read more

The first time huevos rancheros has been ordered by my husband that he hasn't wanted to change something about the dish. Eat here. Eat here as often as you can! I wish I had pictures to share...I go here often enough that I have had many different things off of their menu and its ALWAYS good. This location at the beach is wonderful (just like the others); its located in a strip mall and parking kind of sucks, but its so worth the hassle. The service is always quick and friendly, the food is always hot (if you want it that way!) and yummy. This time I brought some out of town friends with me, there were a total of 7 of us and the wait was about 45 minutes. We were prepared. They have free coffee outside and water with lemon. Once we got seated, we were able to order right away and the food came so fast! Its always so hard to decide what to get since everything is good, this time I got a Greek omelet. It was light and fluffy and filled with feta - one of my favorite cheeses. I got the potatoes on the side, they are the best! I always order them well done because I appreciate the crispy bits. One of my friends got Chicken and Waffles...they do them better than anyone. Usually, when I get them, I eat the waffles there and bring the chicken home for another meal. They serve the waffles with a strawberry butter and the waffles with hot & spicy maple syrup. Together they are wonderful but its soooo much food; which I love because whats better than leftovers!? Of course, this wasnt my order so I had to satisfy myself with a small nibble of the delicious crunchy fried skin off of my friends! If you come for breakfast, be prepared to wait; especially on a Sunday. Do yourself a favor though, come any way. Its worth it. read more

What a fantastic place whether you are craving breakfast or lunch or dinner. Also a great place for take out! When I want eggs, whether just scrambled or combined in a skillet, the portions are satisfying and done perfectly. The fried hot and spicy chicken biscuits are amazing. At lunch and dinner, the fried chicken platter is reminiscent of Mom's. Love love the turkey platter with mashed potatoes with dressing and cranberries! You can tell I eat here a lot! This place was pretty good. I was worried that it would be super greasy but it actually wasn't. Mimosas were cheap. MY server suggested that I do half portions of the 2 different items I couldn't decide about. This was a great decision, except it was still too much food :). I'd highly recommend the waffles with fruit. yummmm. They do have coffee outside for you while you wait, but I'd recommend holding off b/c it's weaker than the fresher brew inside. read more

One of the best medium size chain places that I have been to in a while. They have more than 26 of these now. I went to the one on the beach for breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict traditional style. It was very good. I had the ham steak on the side. It was very good. The hash browns were fresh and almost perfect. This location is very busy so I sat at the counter. Service was good enough and friendly. This place gets slammed though so expect that. I will be back to try something else. Great place... don't miss it. read more

This place was FANTASTIC! I got the chicken and waffles (dark meat only - you can do a smaller version of the regular, huge order) and I think it may have been the best fried chicken I've ever had. We visited from Ohio, near Amish Country, where they KNOW how to fry chicken, so I do not say that lightly. The strawberry butter has chunks of strawberry in it, but they can easily be picked out if you want smooth butter - and I highly recommend it for the flavor. My partner got the philly & fries and it was also delicious!! If you're a pickle person, they serve a really good pickle spear with the philly :) Truly, one of my favorite meals while we were here.
