Finished a long long run and really needed a hot not so good for us breakfast afterward. Long fans of the San Marco location we decided to hit the beaches Metro Diner. As we pulled in to park we noticed a throng of people around the door, luckily there were only two of us and two seats opened up at the bar as soon as we walked in. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros to share, which is one of my all time favorites. Eggs, beans, chorizo, cheese, on top of crispy flour tortillas, oh my. A full order is TOO MUCH for a normal sized person, be warned, if you are flying solo get a half order. We also shared a half order of Yo Hala, they had a peach version that was fantastic. Our server was the highlight of this visit, we were exhausted from our run, probably didn't smell that great either. She was delightful, very friendly, fast and really made our visit enjoyable. I'm not a huge fan of their coffee, I like mine strong and theirs is typical diner style, but I'll drink it anyhow. My other favorites at Metro are SOS (chipped beef) when they have it, and their Eggs Bene. read more

We were seated very quickly (10 or so mins) even with many people waiting inside and outside. It took probably 20-30 mins for our food to come out. We were seated next to the cooking area so it was cool to watch all the different items come out. I had the biscuits and gravy, which came with eggs and hashbrowns (substituted with grits instead). The eggs were fine, grits were good, and the biscuit plate was huge. Could easily be a meal on just that alone. My boyfriend had the chicken Benedict, a special, and said the hollandaise was perfect. He also got the hashbrowns with the works, which also could have been a meal on its own based on the portion. Our waitress, Morgan, kept our water and coffee filled. The Bloody Mary was decent, but tasted much better after adding some hot sauce. About $40 for all this, after a 20% tip. read more

I finally got to try this place after seeing my friends post many pictures from here! Came here for breakfast early in the morning before my flight back home to LA. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, half size. It was very delicious! I'm not an 'eggs benedict' kind of person but I think I'll give it a try everywhere I go now! My favorite part of breakfast is hash browns, but sadly the hash browns it came with was pretty bland. It was lacking some kind of seasoning. I still ate it all though. My friends ordered the Chicken and Waffles, which is what I originally wanted but I figured it was too early to have chicken for breakfast. I took a bite of the chicken from a friend and dipped it in the sauce it came with and it was sooooooo good! The waffles with the strawberry butter was delicious as well! My first visit to Metro Diner was the Beaches location. Its packed every morning so you have to get there early or go after the lunch crowd. The wait is worth it because the food is delicious. The portions are very large, enough for sharing for sure. We tried the Chicken and Waffles. Holy moly! I'm not a fried chicken fan and I loved it. The Tabasco-syrup concoction is so good and complements the dish perfectly! We also had the shrimp and grits which is also delicious. The Yo Hala on the Square is very rich and dense. Walked in while on business for breakfast and ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit and a coffee. They were generous with the crispy bacon and the biscuit was warm and fresh. The server was attentive and sweet. The food was fresh and served promptly. Prices were reasonable. Server asked me if I wanted a coffee to go when she brought my check. But they never got my order wrong. Parking is lame especially on the weekend, but if you go on the weekday there's ample parking. I was in a parking lot of another restaurant that turned out to be closed on Tuesdays. I stopped a local gentleman and asked for a restaurant recommendation. He told me to go to the metro diner. As soon as I walked in I felt like a regular. The wait staff was exceptionally welcoming and made some dinning recommendation. I had the metro turkey club which is big enough for two people and my husband had the spicy honey chicken sandwich with onion rings. At first he wasn't going to share his onion rings with me but there were so many on the plate he actually let me have three! They were delicious! Would highly recommend Metro diner. read more

This is a really cool place and a must to visit if passing through Jacksonville Beach. I spent my youth cooking in diners in NY. I'm kinda picky. Metro Diner did a great job for my family and I. Portions were large,we did our best, Daughters had Pumpkin and Cinnamon pancakes thumbs up all around but could finish only half, these are grown women not kiddies. I had the Bissell breakfast , perfect eggs over ,I can't tell you how often I got them over cooked(see picky above) home fries would have profited from a dusting of oregano and paprika, but the texture was perfect too. Came here during a vacation and was pleasantly surprised! Great food, large portions, and everyone is very pleasant. My first time here was on a Sunday, and there was quite the line. We threw our name in the hat, and snagged a seat at the bar roughly 20 minutes in. Larger parties might take longer, but they seemed to be handling the larger crowds well. Coffee and water are available while waiting too. Coming in on weekdays, it's not bad at all. We walked right in. As for the food, it was all amazing. I had the Shrimp and Grits the first time and was hooked! I've been back once more, and have tried the Huevos Rancheros, Ya Hala on the square, and crab Benedict. All pretty dang good. When being seated there was a family that was leaving and a woman holding her child had threw up over her shoulder. Soon after I saw a young man use a cloth to wipe up the throw up from the floor fold it over and then wipe the seat and table that was just cleared. This was about six months to a year ago but I have not gone back since and will never go back again. The food was okay I had the chicken and waffles that a co-worker recommended. I do not like giving poor reviews and avoid doing so if I can... (usually if i have a bad experience i just don't write a review) but this type of behavior needs to be addressed. The only real dissatisfaction was with the cleaning staff and their methods of cleaning up vomit and tables. read more

First of all their coffee is always good. I stuck with the basic veggie omelette and it was done right, full of veggies including asparagus that was delicious. Their cheese grits are cheesy and creamy, with a layer of cheese melted on the top. The best i have had. As other people received their orders each item looked more delicious than the last. Decided to try this place out because the Airbnb I was staying at listed it as a good food option and also it has amazing reviews online. I walked in and there weren't that many people in the building, however it did take me a while to be seated. Multiple servers looked at me standing at the front and didn't move to help me. Once I sat down, I observed the place and noticed that the servers were sitting certain people down quicker than they had sat me down. I got a veggie omelette with a gluten-free toast and grits. I also got a cup of coffee, which made the breakfast under $17. In my opinion very overpriced for the quality of the meal / the egg whites were odd in texture and the asparagus as well. Even though this place was recommended by people, I don't necessarily think I would recommend it to other people because it felt like my presence was unwanted there. Glad I didn't try the chicken and waffles this place was known for bc if my omelette left something to be desired I can't imagine what they would've left. Mediocre stuff. I went for breakfast, opting for the Biscuits with sausage gravy and hash browns with scrambled eggs. The biscuits and gravy were tasty, but the eggs were not real eggs, but rather a mix or pre-maid liquid. The texture and taste of nothing tipped me off, but seeing the employee pour a container into a plastic vat of the stuff confirmed my suspicions. That is a big fail, IMO. The hash browns seemed frozen too. Also, the Condaxis coffee was pretty weak and in no way worth the 2+ dollars I got charged for. In short, another Yelp fail, Duval County. I got a veggie omelet and even that was delicious and flavorful. They have take out if you don't want to wait for a table! They seemed to have perfected the art of seasoning every one of their dishes, which I super appreciate! It felt down home and there are so many breakfast options available all day.
