It's GRAND OPENING day!!!! Arrived for brunch with the family. We were seated immediately even though the place was packed to the gill! Waitress & waitress in training were very sweet and prompt. We placed our order and it arrived quickly. Fresh & hot off the press. 2 Bissell Breakfasts with OJ. We were greeted with a bright and cheery "welcome to metro!" Staff seems happy and motivated. Pancakes were warm and moist. Scrambled eggs cooked to perfection. Hash browns had just the right amount of crunch and turkey sausage was yummy! This place was amazing. The service was off the charts. Apparently this location is where they send everyone to train so it's exceptional. The manager here travels and launches the new locations. They have a location in Tampa that I'm definitely trying out some time. I had the chicken and waffles which the server recommended and I'm so happy I tried them. I LOVE METRO DINER!!! Been to the one on Roosevelt quite a few times and am so happy this one is closer to where we reside. Whoop whoop ;)!!! First off, the parking is not so great depending how long of the wait is and rather every single person is in a separate car. I believe it should have been built bigger as well as this establishment, since it is so popular. Very, very happy for the hours that they stay open longer than the other Metro Diner's. That is pretty awesome!! Depending on when you arrive there may or may not be a wait for your table. The wait will be for your waiter/ waitress to arrive at your table, bring you your drinks, then an even enormous wait for you to get the delicious food. So please do not arrive extremely hungry as your stomach will be eating at your ribs from starvation. I would suggest that they hire more cooks, more wait staff and a better way for the tables to not be so congested. Another suggestion would be to when they clean the tables to also just clean the floor as well. For some reason, I noticed food on the floor that was not attended to an ended up on so many peoples shoes, yuck! I ordered the Yo Hala, no banana's all pineapples and yummy pineapple sauce as it was a special and it was soooooo amazing!!! My son had the JC Vortex Burger, he said the fries needed more seasoning :( . Needless to say, he just ate the burger. I would be back as the food is very delicious!! read more

Jam packed all day long. Menu has a wide range of options. Choosing a dish can be challenging for someone like me, particularly in the breakfast menu with nearly everything having eggs (just not my thing). I eventually tried the roast beef and bleu cheese sandwich. It was amazing. Usually the cheese has a strong taste, but this sandwich was done just right. The moistness of he roast beef and the dryness of the bleu cheese perfectly balanced each other. Our server was on point and kept my party well supplied with drinks despite a jam-packed place. We decided to try Metro Diner tonight, because I have heard that it was really good. We got there at 730, not realizing that they close at 8. We never felt rushed or like they wanted us to get out so they could go home. The service was excellent. We started off with fried green tomatoes. Very good. I decided on the Charleston shrimp & grits....Two fried grit cakes infused with cheese, roasted red peppers and Andouille sausage. Topped with shrimp, sausage, onions and peppers in a shrimp sauce. Garnished with chopped bacon and green onions. Wow. It tasted even better than it sounds. Hubs chose the reuben with homemade chips. I don't like reubens, but it looked really good even to me. I just love this place. We eat here at least twice a week, yea, I know way to much. I don't divert from what I'm used to so ever. On one of our many visits, the special was cinnamon toast pancakes and let me tell you something, each time I'd go I was staring at the blackboard hoping those pancakes would be the special but NOPE!! On one of our visits, looking over the menu that I was already well familiar with, they added, & low and behold, the pancakes were added to the menu so I can have them anytime I want them. That is always my order with a side of bacon and eggs w/cheddar cheese. We've never experienced bad service or bad food. The managers are always very friendly and accommodating. I really am a Happy Camper to have the Metro a couple of blocks away. I cant seem to order anything except my favorite breakfast though but I do watch everyone else's plates go by that are not calorie counting or gluten bound and wish they would give me just one little bite! But they dont offer so I say to myself next time I will order that heavenly looking Yo Hala or the Pound Cake French Toast! Mmmmm. Cooks working hard to make each dish "delish". Servers rushing hot food to tables, making sure that drinks are refilled. Persons cleaning up immediately afterwards for the next customers. They claim that it is the place where locals eat. I think that its better than that. I wouldn't mind driving out of the way, or face Orange Park traffic for such wonderful dining. They even give a discount for people who eat more than one meal per day there. I'm living at the hospital across the street (taking care of my wife) and good food is great way to take care of myself, so that I can better take care of others. read more

Wow!!! I had the chicken and waffles with strawberry butter. I sat at the counter and watched a orchestra chefs. Each at their own station creating some of the best food I've had. The smell is wonderful and took me back to Summers at grandma's. I was enthralled by this work preparing each plate. Kudos to these who often are forgotten. The chicken was delightful, moist, and the flavor rivals Chicken Annie's in Kansas. The place was packed but my waitress was very attentive. There is a reason you may encounter a wait. Wait staff seem to work well to get food out when a runner is called, kitchen staff kept up with plates carrying them pile high and keeping things stocked for the incredible cooking staff!! Calling out orders hearing them call back to each other working together was great to see. And the food delicious! Usually this location is amazing. Today's service today was horrible. I don't know if Rachel is a new server or maybe she just didn't want to be there, but she came to our table a total of 4 times. The first time it took roughly 10 minutes after being seated to get our drink order taken and by then we already knew what we wanted. Que another 7 minutes before getting our drinks, second time she came to our table. No extra napkins were brought even though my daughter ordered the kids pancakes, common sense, kids can be messy and napkins are necessary! A food runner brought our food and I had to ask for butter for the pancakes and toast. By that point I could have used a refill on coffee, but she passed our table a few more times without stopping. The next time she came by was to put my check on the table about halfway through eating, again no offer to refill drinks or anything. She dropped the check face up and walked away. I noticed she didn't pay much attention to any of her tables and actually wrote this on the receipt to explain her 12% tip. The last time she came by was when she realized my card was sitting with the check waiting to be taken. She did tell us to have a nice afternoon....at 9:50 in the morning. It's amazing how I come here alone with my daughter and receive horrible service, but when I come with my boyfriend or we come as a family the service is phenomenal no matter how busy this place gets! The food is always great, so kudos to the cooks! This is honestly one of our favorite places to get any meal throughout the day from. Management just needs to emphasize customer service to their employees and train the new people better, you're a server and needs tips so take care of your tables. I always tip 25% or better for good service and hate feeling stingy, but terrible service doesn't get a good tip. read more
