Today, I could not take it anymore placed an online order and drove to Metro Diner in South Tampa. It's far from my home, but worth the drive. Not crowded at the time, inside is a sanitizer station and employees wearing masks. Luckily my food was ready and waiting at the counter so I was in and out within seconds. Although it well over hour since my food had been prepared that I was finally able to eat, the food was still tasty. Waffles absolutely delicious, fried chicken a bit too salty. I decided to come for my birthday after having previously picked up ubereats deliveries and been dying to try the place myself. It was packed, which I expected, but it shouldn't take over 40 minutes to get your food. When my eggs Benedict came the eggs were almost hard boiled. My partner ordered biscuits and gravy and they were great. I ended up having to send back my food and wait another 15 minutes for my food. By the time it came he was done eating. I can't say that Metro lived up to their great reviews. With so many other options out there I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again. read more

Because I'm constantly thinking about Metro Diner when I'm not there. --- --- --- This my third experience at a Metro Diner - the first being at the location in St. Pete, the second being at a Yelp event at this location and finally, I visited this location with my wife. All three times, I've walked away super impressed and wishing I could spend time in here on a nearly daily basis. After sampling the chicken & waffles at the Yelp event, I knew that I absolutely had to try out a full portion. For my first trip to Metro Diner, the worst part was deciding what to order because the entire menu looked so amazing. I still considered it tough on this trip, but that chicken and waffles was so perfect in sampler size that I had to have a full portion in my life. It lived up to the hype. As I've gotten older, fried chicken seems to be tough for me to handle. After fried chicken, I generally spend my days regretting my decision, but I actually felt great after this. Both the chicken and waffles were perfect and the strawberry butter is the absolute most amazing compliment. I only wish there was more of it! My wife, being the saint that she is, ordered the Holy Davoli, which was my 2nd favorite thing that I tried at the Yelp event. In a full portion, it's nearly impossible to actually bite into because it's giant. It's a burger in between a grilled cheese sandwich - it's basically a triple-decker. And as you can imagine, a burger in between a grilled cheese sandwich is everything in life that you'd want it to be. I wanted to try the corned beef hash because it looked really great in the pics, but I just think that I'm not a huge corned beef fan. If you are, you'll probably enjoy this, but next time I'll try out another side. My next visit could consist of just about any of their amazing items, but I think it'll have to be something with eggs because when I'm in a diner, that's what I crave... and Metro has some eggggggcellent choices. Just been here once I don't live here. But I'm just gonna base this review on the one tune I was here. Was looking in the area for good eats and I noticed this gem. It's only been open for 6 weeks and boy was I glad to visit here. I was craving some chicken and waffles. And that's exactly what I ordered. From the pics and reviews. I couldn't resist. The inside was kinda small for a diner but I was about to get seated. The staff was amazing I had a server named Darren and he was a delight. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He also advised me to get the chicken and waffles. The food came out and what a nice size dish. 4 pieces of chicken u can either order a half of a chicken or just dark meat. I got the juicy dark meat And the waffles came with a strawberry butter. The chicken was fresh and juicy. Maybe a little on the salty side. But still really delicious. My son who is 5 wanted the cinnamon roll pancakes and of course the regular adult portion would have been way too big for him so she upgraded the kids silver dollar pancakes to it for him which was awesome and he loved it! Kids pancakes are $3.99 normally and come with a drink and it was $1.50 upcharge for the cinnamon roll style which is a great price. A solid four stars for this location based on my dining experience this morning. To my surprise it was easy to find parking. There is also plenty of parking around the back of the restaurant. They have a nice shaded patio section and a large dining area. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the service was extremely slow in every aspect of our meal. It took forever to get our drinks, the server then forgot or ignorored that we also asked for waters. It then took a long time to place our order... when our food came out, Steve's corned beef hash was cold, not even mildly warm. It took 15 minutes for them to remake his dish and when it came out, the eggs were hot but the corned beef hash was still not remotely hot... While this would normally warrant a 2-3 star review, the rest of the food was so great that I can get passed it. The fried chicken meal was delicious. The chicken was crispy and flaky on the outside but still extremely moist on the inside. It was not greasy at all either! I subbed the mashed potatoes out for loaded hash browns and I'm glad I did... they were so great. The corned beef was cold, but still good. My dad ordered eggs, hash browns and sausage patties and enjoyed it. The biscuits and gravy with eggs also looked delicious. I am so excited about this South Tampa location opening and can't wait to go back for the Yelp Elite event this week to try more of their staple menu items! read more

This is the only place I have found that has real chicken and waffles, not chicken tenders. You get one half of a perfectly Fried Chicken and a large Belgian waffle. The chicken has a crispy crust and moist tender meat. The waffle is the size of a dinner plate and all I did was rewarm it in my toaster and it was perfect! This is my 2nd visit to Metro. Definitely get on the wait list before hand! And be careful where you park because there was a tow truck company with 2 tow trucks towing peoples cars away. They ate making their money. We came for breakfast/ brunch. We ordered mimosas and received a whole bottle of Champagne but we had to use beer glasses because apparently everyone is using the champagne glasses. I ordered a basic breakfast of eggs, hash browns and bacon. It was delish and I ate before taking photos. Sorry. I should have ordered the chicken and waffles. We were looking forward to going to a late breakfast and a couple of Friday errands. A beautiful day. My hubby found Metro diner so we tried it. As I've said before, our 2nd visit, first and last! We didn't have a long wait and was seated in Stacy's section. Think it was Stacy. There, we waited. No water or coffee offered. Finally got to place our orders. I got the 2+2+2, etc. I wanted my eggs over easy but I mistakenly said "light" and not easy. Stacy wasted no time in correcting me. Got too pancakes, grits, and 5 grain toast. Oh, well done bacon! Half was shared with my hubby. Our plates came out in less than 5 minutes. Before water and coffee. Yet, barely warm. Eggs were runny and frankly, disgusting. I asked that the pancakes b cooked well. They were soooo cake-y. Hard to cut up. But the taste was good. The coffee (1 mug) finally came. Taste was also good and it was actually hot. After playing with my food, I went to have a bite of pancake and as I put it in my mouth I immediately tasted something weird on my tongue. It was A HAIR !!! Ugh! It was blonde and I'm a brunette. I pushed my plate away immediately. My hubby didn't want to make a big deal about anything. So we left asap. This was supposed to b a nice morning out and it was definitely not off to a good start. Let me start off by saying Daisy are waiter was like the best ever. She was on top of the refills and making sure we had everything. She recommended me to try the chicken sandwich and HOLY JESUS MOLLY!!!! This thing was the most delicious chicken sandwich I have ever had in my life!!! Wowowowowowowowowoow....My partner had breakfast platter and she loved it!!! I can't rave enough on how amazing the service was from beginning to end. Haven't experienced it like this ever in Tampa. Let me first start by saying that I was introduced to Metro Diner when I lived close to the original restaurant in San Marco in Jacksonville, FL a decade ago and I have been a fan since. Now, I debated giving this review 2 stars simply because the server today was very nice, but that's about it. My wife and I ate there today. I got the chicken and waffles plate, the croissant french toast, and my wife got an apple flavored waffle. As soon as I cut into the fried chicken, it was completely and utterly RAW. This is completely unacceptable at a restaurant this size. As a consumer, I look into restaurants to provide safety first and I have never experienced this before. Thankfully, I did not take a bite and obviously returned the dish. The server apologized and said that the cooks were "tired," like that is not an ok response. She told me that the kitchen was preparing another plate for me but I refused it as I was already disgusted with the raw chicken and decided to get the Charleston Shrimp and Grits instead. As to the other dishes, the french toast was not great either, it was very "eggy" and honestly, it also needed to be cooked a little longer. The Shrimp and Grits were not great either but edible. It really saddens me to leave this review because like I said, Metro has always been good. I just wont return to this location. read more

Sometimes the encore is everything. I found myself sitting at a table outside Metro Diner for a late breakfast this past week. It was probably the last place I would have chosen but my spouse craved its crispy hash browns and it does have outdoor dining. Metro's service was super speedy. We were seated with our choice of a digital menu or a plastic one in a minute. A very friendly waiter appeared wearing a properly fitted mask and kept his distance when he returned with our coffees to take our order. My spouse went with a standard eggs, hash browns and sausage breakfast. I had to be more complicated with a desire to avoid certain proteins and yet dine on something savory so I ordered a veggie omelet.. without the eggs. Our waiter didn't blink. He asked a couple of questions, took a couple of notes and then disappeared. Within a few minutes, two plates were delivered. The standard breakfast looked, well, standard and was pronounced "quite good". And my eggless veggie omelet was a masterpiece. The cook added all sorts of veggies to what could have been a few onions, peppers and asparagus, placed them on top of crispy hash browns and topped them with melted cheese. A little hot sauce turned this into a delicious flavorful feast. I was abolutely thrilled with my meal, especially in comparison to similar requests at other breakfast joints. One actually sent me a huge plate with a tablespoon of veggies next to a few potatoes because "that is what would have gone into the omelet". I was happy to see that metro diner came to Tampa! I remember seeing metro diner on diners, drive ins and dives. I could be wrong but I think the owners were from my hometown near western,Pa because there is a metro diner up there. We decided to go on a Sunday at 10am. I tried to look on yelp and other areas for reservations. They did not have any so I decided to brave the wait. The wait was out the door even for outside tables. For two we were quoted 50 minutes and we stood it out. It actually ended up being 30 minutes so it wasn't bad. Now usually I get something pancake, French toast, or waffle related but I saw the picture of the huevos rancheros and it intrigued me so I got something different this time. I got the eggs scrambled (love that they give you that option!) and without chorizo because I do not eat pork. I replaced the chorizo with turkey sausage instead with no problem. The dish was really good and I was happy with my decision to try something different. It was more like huevos rancheros nachos and very delicious. The service is efficient for how packed it was and we got our food quickly. One note is, they have 2.99 mimosas if your in the mood for a Sunday beverage. I wish they had some sort of reservations system and that is my only issue. read more

I was with a large party in Tampa and we were looking to get brunch and wanted to sit outside. They have a small side patio so we thought we would check it out. We tried metro diner on a busy Saturday. The wait was an hour. When we finally got sat they had to split up the party. Our server was good. I got the chicken pot pie which wasn't amazing but it was pretty good. I asked for it to be made without mushrooms but it still came with mushrooms. Ate it anyway because i couldnt even taste them.
