We decided to try this place out after seeing it on Yelp. We went on Labor Day for breakfast/brunch and it was busy. We waited 35 mins for a table for 3 and it was a very chaotic experience. The waitresses were all overwhelmed. This visit gave me anxiety. We had to stop our waitress multiple times to get items we needed like syrup, refills, togo boxes. We even overheard other waitresses tell their tables they were swamped and needed a few minutes to answer their questions about the menu. We went to the togo area to get refills for my toddlers since our waitress was busy and the togo lady had an attitude. I think they are understaffed. You can definitely find better food, pricing and atmosphere elsewhere. The food itself isn't a reason to come back so we won't return. read more

This restaurant is on a strip mall off of the busy w.kennedy boulevard that goes straight to downtown tampa. The entrance from the outside doesn't call to the diner but once you walk in, you realize it's not as small as you thought. The service was very good and the servers were very attentive especially the young gentlemen with a nice sense of humor that assisted us. The food was ok but the portions were huge. I got the eggs Benedict with potatoes. I will definitely go back again and I would still go ,on any other day other than a Sunday. Enjoyed a huge breakfast that was well made and affordable. I ordered the San Francisco eggs Benedict and my friend ordered their signature chicken and waffles. Everything came out quickly and hot. The service was great, the food was great, and we were well taken care of. I eat eggs Benedict pretty much whenever I go for brunch and have to say, these were damn good. That's a tough dish to make unique when everyone makes it, but I will definitely remember the gags Benedict from metro diner. One thing I didn't like was the bloody mary I ordered. I tried to sip on it throughout my meal, but it was like drink watery soup and wasn't appetizing. Luckily, our server was super nice about it and took it off our bill. Another thing that bugged me a bit was when our server offered to load up my hash browns with onions, peppers, and cheese. That sounded great so I got it, but was then charged 75¢ PER TOPPING. The price is irrelevant - it's the principle, I was bamboozled. It balanced out with the Bloody Mary being deleted but still... very sneaky. Despite how busy they were, I am very impressed with the quick seating and service as well as the accuracy of it all - and our server was training someone through everything too! Normally, my visits to Metro have been satisfactory, but this was a one off. My simple pro-protein breakfast request of two eggs, scrambled soft, and a side order of turkey sausage was simple enough. All at the dining booth concurred they heard the same. Having waited 30 minutes and watching other diners arriving after my dining party and finishing their meals before being served wasn't helping. My order of two soft fried eggs with turkey sausage being served, I spoke up saying it was wrong. The server offered to have it remade, but I didn't want to wait another 30 minutes, as it was VERY busy, and I was fairly hungry. So, I consumed what I was served. It was edible, but definitely not how I like eggs. Hopefully, my next visit will be on point, as it usually is, and Metro will regain their five-star rating. read more

They were busy when we walked in and now I know why. They have plenty of menu options, a cute family diner vibe and the service was great. Love that they have mimosas every day for $3.99. Ordered the Breakfast Pie and the Bissell Breakfast. Both were very good, although the potatoes inside the breakfast pie were pretty undercooked, the rest of it was good enough to just eat around them. Reasonably priced for the portion sizes. Overheard a few of the servers interact with customers who seemed to be regulars which was refreshing and speaks to their staff and the service for sure. Although it's just a typical diner, the food and service were great. They were very busy with it being a Saturday morning but the staff handled it very well. Only a 45 minute wait for a party of two but that's a lot better than most breakfast/brunch spots around this time of day. For my entree I chose the Bissell breakfast which included two eggs,bacon, cheese grits,biscuit and pancakes. The biscuits tasted how my great grandmother made hers which made it even better. I finished my entire meal except my pancakes because it was so much food !!!! My grandfather had the two egg breakfast which came with eggs, a biscuit, hash browns and bacon. He too was very satisfied with his meal and service being that he is a retired executive chef. He is already planning our next breakfast date.We definitely will be returning to MD since we love that the food felt and tasted like it came from a family kitchen as well as the amount of food they give you for such an inexpensive price. Went for Breakfast Friday morning. Waited 15 minutes - there was one waiter who came out four times and assisted the table next to us. (The only other table besides us). 10 min later another waiter came out and gave us menus but didn't take our drink order. We waited 10 minutes and left. Went to Metro dinner Friday morning for a long overdue brunch date with my Boo. My first impression was it was busy a not TOO crowded but a steady flow busy. Which is always a good sign that the positive reviews were accurate. We were seated within minutes of walking in another plus, however please keep in mind there were only the two of us. The staff was friendly and attentive despite being busy which to goes a long way with me. I ordered The Brissel Breakfast which included two eggs over easy, bacon, whole wheat toast, hash browns, and a short stack of pancakes. There was nothing memorable about my dish. The word that comes to mind is average. I wasn't a fan of the pancakes...I love pancakes so I was a bit disappointed that they were more chewy then fluffy. However my boyfriend ordered the Friday special Fish and Chips. Which was amazing, the batter has just the right amount of salt and spice. It caused me to have a bit of food envy. I highly recommend this dish. Overall it was a good dining experience with a friendly and hospitable staff. Came back to visit after returning to Tampa on a getaway and has to deduct a star due to a rude staff person and the many times I had to request something be brought back to the kitchen for the quality issues. The Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict was phenomenal. The pouched eggs were perfectly cooked. The Avocado Toast was fresh and the portions were generous. The Crosissant French Toast was flaky and a fun twist on traditional French toast and the Steakbowl had legit steak. My favorite part was that we were seated immediately even during Sunday brunch with no reservation and each menu item lists the calories. Awww! The best place for Brunch! Let me first admit this wasn't my first choice for Sunday Brunch. I'd went to two other restaurants to only be told it was going to be a 45min -1hr wait, (Nah, we good sis) And left! I'm thinking third times a charm but I had already been burned twice so I call first. This angel greets me and said to me the best words I had heard all day, "Oh sweetie, we can seat you immediately". Waze said 15mins away, I made it in 9 and as promised I was seated immediately. Now to the food. We didn't have to wait for our food too long. 10mins top and I had order plenty for my guest and I. We both ordered the chicken and waffles which I noticed is a customer favorite. I also ordered the the crab cake benedict with a side of hash browns and a mimosa to wash it down. Let's start with the hash browns. First I could tell they were fresh and didn't come from a bag or box. They were so nice and crunchy on the outside and flaky moist on the inside. (Pro tip: Dip your folk in ketchup first, then scoop the hash brown for an experience) The Crab Cake Benedict, beautifully made with a poached egg on top and savory English muffin on the bottom. It made me feel nice and boujee (pronounced Boo-She). I ended up crossing my legs after the first bite to match the attitude this dish was giving me. It comes in an order of two, the last was one would be for later. Wanted to savor the boujee for another time. The Chicken and Waffles, the fan favorite. So you will notice on the menu it reads, "Served with our sweet and spicy sauce." I hesitated for minute and thought, "Do I really want to experiment with chicken and waffles?" What will happen is your server will pour maple syrup in a small bowl and dab a few drops of hot sauce in. This is optional if this isn't your thing but I live life on the edge. Its also served with a strawberry butter. (Pro tip: Cut a small slice of the waffle with the strawberry butter and slide it up your folk, then cut a piece of the chicken and slide it up your folk, then dip the whole folk in to the maple and hot sauce.) Metro Diner is a fantastic home type restaurant with good recipes and a nice, clean atmosphere. This is a good place for meeting with friends for breakfast, lunch or a cup of coffee. In some ways it reminds me of Tampa's answer to Monk's Diner ( for those of you Seinfeld fans) only nicer. There's the good old bacon and eggs, some more originals like the Breakfast Pie. I had the corned beef hash ( freshly made) with poached eggs. The meal came with a biscuit, made just right, nice and flaky. The coffee there is delicious too, which is a must for any restaurant. This is a hard review. My expectations were so high based on the pictures and the long wait for a table. The service is good and it seems to be a favorite among the locals. However, the food (fried chicken and waffles) lacked flavor. My party was disappointed overall in the food taste with one citing that the fried chicken tasted rather burnt. The chicken was juicy and crunchy. However, it lacked seasoning. If I happen to be in the area, I may try it again but it's not at the top of my list. read more

Last metro diner we went to was in North Carolina, this one is just as great. We sat at the counter, we love watching them throw down in the kitchen. Their staff is working hard!! Non stop. They work great as a team. Rashidi was our server, he was great! Very friendly. Even when all the staff is slammed they're still smiling and attentive. We got the chicken and waffles subbing out the bone in for 3 huge meaty tenders. Juicy and flavorful! The strawberry butter that came with the waffles was really tasty, and the waffles nice and fluffy. This was plenty portion to split; then we got a side order of a biscuit bacon egg and cheese because I didn't want to leave there without trying one of their biscuits. Lots of egg so a little hard to eat but still very tasty. They also have "Strawberry butter", yes it has strawberries in it, tastes like ice cream, and its the best thing I've had! Each dish is huge, even if you come hungry, you're probably still leaving with take out. Charleston Shrimp & Grits was my favorite and highly recommend, you know how normally grits are tasteless and dull, well not with this dish because they mix in chees and sauage, the sauce is creamy, not too heavy, comes with nice portion of shrimp also. My husband and I stopped in for brunch on a Saturday. We found a parking spot pretty easy in the plaza. They took our name and phone number and said it would be a 15-20 min wait. We opted to sit at the counter since we were hungry. The whole restaurant smelled great. The worst part about sitting at the counter was watching food be made while hungry! Everything looked so good, it was hard to decide what to have. I had the San Francisco eggs Benedict. My husband had the protein breakfast with a short stack. Our server was really great. Super friendly and answered all of our questions. We got to listen to the kitchen staff banter back and forth while they worked and it was nice to see that they all really seemed to enjoy working there. Everything they made looked great and made us want to come back to try other things. Our food came out quick and it was SO good. My eggs Benedict was great. My only complaint is I like my eggs more runny and the center was almost totally cooked. It didn't ruin the taste but I'll know next time to mention my preference. My potatoes were so good. I've been to metro diner and Saint Pete a couple of times but since I had to be in the Tampa area I decided to stop by this 1. I love that this is a restaurant that has call ahead seating because a pet peeve of mine are restaurants that are usually very busy but won't do reservations or call ahead. That way by time I arrived it was a very short wait for me to be seated. My server was amazing and super friendly and on top of everything.. I have been craving chicken and waffles for a minute so of course I've got that. The chicken could have been a little crispier but it was great flavor and of course I ate the entire thing. I guess I must have been hungrier than I thought hahaha. I love that they add add Maple syrup and hot sauce mix together as that is a great combination. It also comes with some strawberry whipped butter on top and the waffle was a nice sweet contrast to the well seasoned fried chicken. Their fried chicken is amazing and it's definitely something I highly recommend. I also got a side of cheese grits which was also something I gobbled down. Great place to grab breakfast, lunch or dinner. I went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning at 9. They were busy but able to get a table right away. As I was leaving there was a wait outside for a table. It's a large restaurant with a dining room and it's fun to watch the teamwork that is demonstrated by the servers and the kitchen staff in the open kitchen. I had coffee and the Veggie Omelet with Mushrooms, onions, peppers, cheddar cheese, asparagus and tomatoes with toast and hash browns I had it with egg whites. Very tasty and nice fresh veggies. My friend had the Fruity waffle: Belgian waffle topped with blueberries, strawberries, bananas and powdered sugar.it was also very good. Good service. Always ready to fill up my coffee cup. As it's in a strip mall on Kennedy blvd in south tampa, there's parking in front but also a lot in back. We are very loyal Trips Diner fans, so we rarely stray from there on the weekends...however, we were meeting some friends headed to the airport, so Metro Diner was a good location for breakfast! Wait on a Sunday at 10am was about 10-15 minutes for a party of 5, so that wasn't bad. Definitely 4 stars for the food. Solid breakfast items - and lots of options. I don't drink coffee, but the others in my party said the coffee was fantastic. However, 2 stars for the service. I'm not sure if our server was new, or tired, but she was far from attentive. It took a solid 5 minutes to be acknowledged after sitting down. When she came over to take our drink order, we also went ahead and put in our food order- and the food ended up coming out before the drinks! We asked her for a high chair twice before we got up and asked the hostess stand. None of us ever had the chance for refills on any of our drinks. Since the food was good all around, I would not let the one bad server prevent me from coming back. I would definitely give it a try again! read more

The CLASSIC EGGS BENEDICT 4/5 included a thick piece of Canadian bacon, which was the highlight with a runny poached egg.
