OMG! THIS FOOD IS SO DELICIOUS! Making the decision to dine here was the best thing EVER! We are here from Detroit. Take it from our group of five three adults and two children. We give Metro Diner 5 plus stars. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was cooked to perfection. It was nice and crispy! But wait a minute! The WAFFLE was light and crisp with strawberry butter! It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Our host Juan made our experience even GREATER! It might be a little pricey. But it is worth every penny and a wonderful way to treat yourself! Just glancing at the plates of food that was ushered to different tables. Everything looked and smelled so good. First time ever to Tampa and we look up Yelp for a bomb place to have breakfast; Metro Diner it was! This place definitely lived up to the '411 4.5 reviews', all of the food that was devoured by the 6 of us was exceptional, no joke. The bacon and eggs as simple as it is was crazy tasty! Amy our server was all over it; friendly, knew the menu and was as attentive as hell to our table. The Manger felt that one of our orders of 'waffles' didn't look right so she insisted on cooking another order. How often does that happen in a breakfast house without asking ...? Breakfast is my favorite meal and I could eat it all day. Metro Diner offers all of my breakfast favorites including eggs Benedict, pancakes, biscuits and chicken & waffles. The chicken and waffles is one of the best (and unhealthiest) dishes on the menu. The fried chicken is perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and the fluffy waffles are paired with sweet strawberry butter and spicy Frank's hot sauce syrup. I love that I can take my baby boy here for a casual meal. The diner closes earlier than your typical diner and caters to families instead of the after hours bar crowd. My only criticism is that the dinner menu falls a bit short. The sandwiches and salads are great and you can't go wrong with the fried chicken or meatloaf, but there are several duds on the menu. read more

Everything you want a diner to be! Service was outstanding, and I think that's a common theme among most people who have recommended this place to eat to me. Super friendly, super fast and attentive service. It's the little things like keeping your coffee fresh and hot, making sure you have butter and syrup and napkins on the table. You never need to ask for a thing! Now for the food. All the standard breakfast stuff of course, but a few unique items which sucked me in. I love eggs Benedict and I heard people rant and rave about metro's fried chicken. So I decided I needed to try their fried chicken Benedict. It was excellent. Hash browns too versus home fries which I prefer. Cooked to golden brown perfection. Waffle was very good too. Coffee was also very good. Breakfast is my comfort food category!!! It has been my favorite type of meal ever since I was a child and I don't honestly know why. It could be that my sisters always made breakfast for lunch on rainy days. I grew up in the days when moms were just starting to enter the workforce more regularly, so older sisters who could cook were a huge benefit! Microwaves were a new thing and up until this point in history TV dinners were placed in the oven, something I was not allowed to use! It could also be that my grandmother lived with us briefly in my toddler days before I entered elementary school and she made THEE MOST AMAZING EGGS, bacon, ham, potatoes and homemade biscuits (although typically she gave me toast with jelly). What ever the reason, to this day I love breakfast more than anything. I consider it a treat on a Friday night when my wife makes breakfast for dinner! [ THE SCENE ] So after finally convincing my mother to ditch another mom/son meal & the Village Inn, I managed to get her to the front doors of Metro Diner. "You and your sisters are all about fancy presentations and décor, I don't need all of that" she bickered as if to defend her position on loving Village Inn. "Mom, while I do like a nice presentation, I'm more concerned about flavor, and Metro Diner is pretty good. Just give them a chance" I calmly reiterated for the fifth time. Our waitress came and mom had a ton of questions about the menu, making sure to let her protest be known! But then, after our server smiled and gave us a few minutes to look over the menu, something interesting happened. After complaining the menu had "too many items", a few things caught her eye and her stance began to soften. When our server returned, mom was now only interested in help with making a choice between two entrees. [ THE FOOD ] CHARLESTON SHRIMP & GRITS (4.5 stars) | $16.99 Metro Diner uses 'grit cakes' which I always find to be a nice changeup from the norm. The shrimp were plentiful and the sauce rich (almost too rich) and flavorful. My only qualm would be that I would have preferred the shrimp to be a tad more cooked with a slight golden sear. WESTERN OMELET (4 stars) | $10.29 My moms way of complimenting her meal was to say it was too big, but liked the flavor and how full it was of ingredients. Here one complaint was that the omelet egg itself was a little thick. While I thought her potatoes were a little too well done, she thought they were "crispy, just the way I like them." Rock on sistah! She also really appreciated that they use Louisiana brand hot sauce instead of Tabasco sauce. SHORT STACK OF PANCAKES (3.75 stars) | $6.49 Not bad, but I've had better. The batter seemed a little spongy to me, but I still enjoyed them. [ SERVICE/ATMOSPHERE ] Our server was a rockstar. She was friendly, fast and accommodating. Speaking of fast, the entire staff travels at high speeds. It sort of feels like you are inside a human ant farm watching as they move with exact precision from the tables to the kitchen and back. All during our meal I was expecting an epic crash, but none occurred. They are truly a well-oiled machine with all the cogs and moving parts performing in unison. [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] A picture of their braised beef tips caught my mothers eye and I do believe before the month is out this creature of habit may visit a second time. THAT'S HUGE! She thought the beef tips looked so good that she kept the paper picture of it, which was meant to be a placemat for our meal. I was so happy she enjoyed the meal here, because for a moment it seemed like breaking her habit of where to eat breakfast was a mistake... like stopping Rain Man from watching Judge Wapner! I've had Metro Diner in other cities and so far, I've been pleased with each visit. Thank you for a yummy meal. Yes please!!!!!! Pick me first to open the door. Sooooo freaking good. It literally smells like breakfast when you pull up to the building! Service was speedy. Food was fantastic. Definitely has the old school diner feel. No full bar but there are mimosas to be had. When you pay they swipe the card at the table. Metro Diner was what the youngins would call "GAS" . The overall feel of a diner along with the sweet aroma of grandmas early morning breakfast. The service was great as well as it was quick and helpful. The food stands out above all , from the Steak bowl that came loaded down with meat to the Meat Omelet which also came loaded down with , you guessed it Egg. Believe it or not this was my first time at Metro Diner. The parking looks like it can get tight, I am not sure if there is additional parking around the back and if there is it wasn't immediately made clear. We stopped in here on a weeknight looking to skip the "making dinner routine." I was craving a grilled cheese and honey wanted a burger. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We were seated immediately and after putting our food in it did not take too long to come out. The food was good. This was standard diner food fan fare. Good place to grab a quick breakfast. My husband loves that he can order half a waffle to add to his meal. My meal came out pretty dry - and although I was hesitant to say anything, the server and manager were eager to get me something else and ensure it was good. The second round was much better - and their flavored vanilla coffee was delish, we got more to-go. read more

Wait staff was friendly and helpful walking us through the menu on our first visit. The meat lovers omelet was loaded with meat AND they have sourdough toast which is so hard to find outside of California. All in all a great meal. This place is always jam packed and for a good reason! THEY ARE amazing, their food is fantastic! Honestly I don't like fried chicken but my husband does and this is probably the only place I would actually order fried chicken because it's so juicy and crunchy at the same time! Only thing that isn't always great is wait times but that's normal and it's such a good place. All waiters so far have been good! Definitely a place to check out for breakfast and lunch in Tampa! Albeit a bit hipster this is an excellent place for brunch or lunch. Atmosphere is clean and simple. Not too noisy but enough to keep conversation private. The chicken comes as 4 healthy pieces, flavorful and juic. Nice crunchy skin. I ordered the croissant french toast. It's 4 pieces that are just the right amount of sweetness. No syrup required. I also order a side of 2 eggs scrabbled and it was not skimpy. The cheesiest grits live up to their name. I modified my order by asking for half the amount of cheese. Love this new local gem. I have received great service here, delicious food, generous portions and so easy to pay for separate checks. I can even get egg whites with no additional "upcharge"! It's the little things, ya know? The seating is great inside and if it isn't 100 degrees out, the seating outside is really nice too. I had a terrible experience in this establishment. I went in on a busy Sunday morning with my husband, 14 yr old son and my 9 yr old son. The Hostess LILY had the most disgusting attitude. Mumbling under her breathe that she did not want my family eating there at all. I asked LILY for the manager.. she said very snarky sure let me go get my mom. Her mother/the manager AIMEE told my family and I to get out. My kids have never experienced getting kicked out of a restaurant for doing nothing but being black. All because her (in my opinion) her racist daughter has a terrible attitude. Not at all the way to run a business. I felt extremely racially profiled. I have plenty of witnesses that noticed LILY's behavior but that did not matter to her Mother The manager AIMEE. Very disgusting! My next step is notifying corporate. read more

We had such a great experience at Metro Diner! Our waitress Stacie was amazing as well as the rest of the staff. We got at the restaurant around 830 and it started filling up quickly. All the dishes were quiet large and we were all satisfied with our meals. My friend and I both got the spicy chicken Benedict. I like my eggs a little runny, especially on a Benedict and the first egg was a little too over cooked for my tasting. The second egg however was perfectly cooked. I was hoping it had a little more spice to it but it was still tasty. My other friend had their corned beef hash dish and that according to her was amazing. She was sitting too far away from me to steal a bite. My other friend had a stuffed French toast dish, which was too pretty to eat but it was still eaten and it was good. I've always been a big fan of Metro Diner since I first had it in Gainesville and was super excited that it made it's way to Tampa! The hustle and bustle of the restaurant is very charming and the decoration is reminiscent of classic diners with it's wooden interior and checkered tablecloths. Our server was super friendly and gave us really great recommendations for each category on the menu. We ended up trying the shrimp & grits (substituted with pulled pork because of my shrimp allergy) and the breakfast pie with a side of turkey sausage. The proportions at this place are out of this world big. The grits dish was very unique as there were fried grits cakes instead of the normal grits porridge that really added a nice texture and buttery flavor along with the savory shreds of pulled pork. As for the breakfast pie, it's a simple baked hash with some onions, peppers, and mushrooms all topped with cheesy goodness. I opted for a side of turkey sausage because I didn't feel like paying an extra dollar to have it mixed in ha. Wow wow wow this was a super solid 5 stars. Just moved to a new area of town so we made a rule - not double dining until we've exhausted all the options.
