well, I went to this establishment on Sunday with my family and a few friends and we had a table for six. We ordered menudo and some other entrées and I kept looking at my wife and I kept saying oh man this is taking a long time for our meals to come to our table and we waited over 30 minutes and when the food came, our Menudo was almost all hamony and no meat and it was semi hot and the taste was very bland we kept saying wow the food today is horrible what it boils down to they were not ready to open up at 11 o'clock and when we had asked the waiter about the food and why it was taken so long in Spanish he had an attitude and became rude. My mom and step dad went here over the weekend and I had them bring me home a plate of their camarones al mojo de ajo (garlic shrimp). The shrimp tasted like refrigerator and the garlic shrimp had no flavor other than the loads of unsalted melted butter it came with/in. I decided to try my luck with the chips and salsa. The salsa was pace salsa (the stuff you buy at the market) with a bit of water and cilantro for flavor. My parents didn't have a better experience than I did. I had heard a rumor that the owner of Mexico 1900 was formally an owner of a restaurant that closed 15+ years ago in Uptown Whittier by the name of Los Portales. It couldn't be true, a piece of my childhood still lived on at Mexico 1900!? I carefully examined the menu and they had the exact same specials, and the pictures on Yelp looked super similar to what we would get when dining at Los Portales, I just had to find out if it was true! We came in for lunch and WOW, the food was extremely similar to Los Portales, not identical, but so similar that it hit every delicious nostalgic note I was hoping it would. Service was great, staff was friendly and attentive. The food arrived fairly quickly and everything was delicious. I was extremely pleased with this experience and we will definitely be back for more. read more

We visited this establishment with some close friends as we are from Hawaii. Prior to the visit I read some of the yelp reviews, which made me hesitant about eating here. That said, I am glad we came. The place was packed and the service was excellent. I noticed the lady many reviews referred to, but poor thing, the restaurant was non-stop, and I too, might be a little intense if I were her as she is well within the age to retire. It is so easy to criticize without knowing one's story. The chips and drinks were non-stop. Wonderful! When the food came it was hot and delicious. No complaintsfrom this patron as my plate showed no evidence that it was ever used. Excellent, excellent! My son and friends loved what they ordered as well. Delicious! I know many people look at reviews to make decisions, but it's likened to the "fake news". True judgement comes through personal experience. When I visit an eatery, I come for the food and atmosphere. People, like myself, have issues. Of course, there is a degree of acceptability, but we need to learn to give grace. I've driven by this place many times and always wondered if I should try it. Well, I stopped by for dinner with my family recently and I was pleasantly surprised. It was well decorated and had lots of plants to liven up the dining rooms. Most of the tables are comfortable booth seatings for a party of 2-4 and there are a couple table seating for larger parties of 6-8 ( possibly 10?). We got seated in a larger booth in the main room. Service was great! Our waiter was nice and the bus boys were very attentive. Each of us ordered our own dishes .Although, next time I'll think share a plate with my husband because the quantity of food was quite ample. I love cheese! They were generous with the cheese sprinkled on top of our food. Also, be careful of your plate because it's is hot when you are served your food. I liked this feature because this kept my food warm as I ate. We got two different combos, # 2,#3, and a huevos montados . We all enjoyed our choices. The tamales are house made and had more meat than usual, according to my husband. It looked like practically every table ordered margaritas too. We tried a strawberry one and although it was very good, the alcohol was mild in taste. I wondered if they made a me a "virgin" version? We got a flan for dessert. It was just as I expected and a nice way to end our meal here. Also, complimentary fried cinnamon sugar flour triangle for each of us ! I think this may be our new neighborhood Mexican restaurant of choice. Looking forward to our next visit! There after we waited 15 min to have our drinks order all non alcoholic beverages and then another 20 min to take our order. Staff was not friendly and could be a little more nice and tentative. He was offered soup or salad, so he got the soup (albóndigas soup), and when it came out it was literally 1 meatball in the little bowl! Just ONE! What a joke! We honestly should've walked out at this point, but we decided to give the main course a try. I ordered one carnitas sope since I wasn't very hungry. When our main dish came out, the chile verde was very dry and unappetizing. My carnitas sope was not good at all. It came with lots of shredded lettuce and 1 teaspoon of guacamole & 1 teaspoon of sour cream. I paid $10 for that sorry sope! And honestly the chips and salsa were very bland and tasted like tomato sauce. Gross! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The television on the wall wasn't even working properly either...the screen was all blue.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You'd think since they charge so much for crappy food they would at least have a decent tv for their guests to enjoy. I ordered the Panchito's plate. Taco, enchilada, tamale, chili relleno, beans and rice. Standard fare but it was a generous plate of food. Came with soup or salad. I had the salad which was crisp and fresh drenched in bleu cheese dressing. The house salsa is very mild. I asked for spicier salsa and they came right out with a spicy green salsa. I will go back. I love the food and the owner but I just had the worst experience with the woman who answered the phone (and this is not the first time she has been utterly rude). I cheerfully said that I would like to place a to go order. Her reply? "Okayyyyy," in a very sarcastic tone. When I was speechless for a minute, she then said "I'm READYYYY." Mexico 1900 has some pretty solid Mexican food. I had the cheese enchilada plate with rice and beans and my friend had some chicken enchiladas (We both had Margaritas). We also ordered guacamole which was good too. Both of us agreed, the food was fresh, came out piping hot and tasted good. The establishment itself is very small but decor reminded me a little bit of Don Joses's. Staff here is very hospitable & polite but I felt like they were a little on the shy side as they didn't say too much during our visit. We are local to the restaurant and have driven by this restaurant 1 million times before deciding to finally pop in and try it on a Friday night. Let me preface this by saying I really wanted to love this place. We walked in the door, and for lack of a better word the grouchy older lady at the register did not greet us, and seemed bothered that we were interrupting her. I finally said hello and her response was "I see you go sit down." I literally wanted to walk out after this point because it was such an ugly feeling that somebody would speak to me that way with an attitude in front of my kids I chalked it up to she was probably having a bad day as we all do so we decided to stay. The servers were amazing, friendly and attentive. We ordered off the kids menu and there were no complaints from the kids. I ordered the cheese enchilada plate and the enchiladas were a bit dry. We also ordered shrimp fajitas which were decent. We had three rounds of chips because the food did take about 25 minutes to arrive and the first two bowls were pretty stale, but the last bowl was fresh I don't see myself going back, especially after seeing all the reviews that the lady in the front is so rude to everybody we all have many choices on where we spend our money and the fact that they keep her up there whether she is an employee or the owner is insane. read more

Had lunch with my family here for the Second time. This is a charming restraunt with Mexican decor and art themes, felt like a locals place. First of all I'm a carnitas kinda guy and enjoy all types prepared. I had the special house green Chile verde burrito. Very flavorful with tender pieces and really good green sauce. I added the house "darn good"salsa and it made it rock. It could of used more meat. I'd order it again. Wife ordered the chicken chocolate Mole'. Lots of chicken and sauce, a sauce that reminded me how my mom used to make it from scratch. Those who know what I mean will taste the authenticity of complex yummy flavors. It's one of those comfort food dishes to try. My brother ordered the ceviche tostadas and that was very impressive. The amount was huge and looked super fresh with lots of colors.
