I have been dining at Mi Amigos for more than 40 years. I worked at the one that was in Tempe when I was in High School. The owner was a neighbor who I used to cut his grass back then as well. ENOUGH of the masking up masquerade! Wearing one from the door to the table is just plain stupid!!! It does absolutely nothing and is ineffective. This folks, is about control, power and compliance. Myself and my friends will no longer, EVER be doing business with Mi Amigos again. Nice Mexican restaurant. Sometimes is it where we go when we don't want to cook and don't want to drive far (it is only a block from our home). I do like their carne asada, their chips and salsas, and their flan. They have more dishes that are good, and also seasonal specials (they do pumpkin dishes during November). My only complain is that they are not very consistent. I often order stuff to go and usually ask for chips and salsa as an order. Sometimes we get this huge bag and sometimes we get merely a dozen chips. Although I am glad that they now have a gluten-free menu. It is not usually our first choice, but we do like this place when we don't want to go far. One thing that they do have and we like a lot is their fresh chips, and their salsa! read more

I have been frequenting this place since I was a little guy with my family so it does hold a warm little place in my heart as a decent Mexican food place. It's family owned, and has a fairly large menu. There's nothing really great and nothing really bad to say about this place, which is why I guess it doesn't do much for me. Sure it holds some degree of nostalgia for me and the tortilla chips are actually my favorite of all of the Mexican food places we frequent. (My taste in chips runs to the light and crispy side so if you like em thick and crunchy, you'll likely not share my enthusiasm.) But on the flip side, the last time I ate there I could have sworn I ordered the carne asada fajitas... yes yes, I know I did because my bill clearly stated "Carne Asada". However, I also remember eating something that resembled the bottom of an old leather shoe and was just as tough. Although I think the bottom of an old shoe would have had more flavor. Geez, so why 3 stars? Well, on the whole the food is good and the wait staff is friendly but I'll admit most of my rating probably comes from the chips and the fond memories. If you're nearby, you could find worse places to eat Mexican, but don't make a trip just to come to Mi Amigos. read more

Restaurant is cute. Service was good. The food is overpriced. My cheese enchiladas were very skimpy on the cheese. The enchilada sauce was straight out of a can. Beans were good. Iced tea was weak. My companion's chimichanga was pretty small and it was 12 bucks. The best thing was the chips, as they appeared to be homemade. Salsa was decent, but made of all canned goods. As we were leaving my companion said, "That was a 20 dollar meal, not a 30 dollar meal." I was thinking the exact same thing. It was OK but not great. Way overpriced. Surprisingly good! To be honest I wasn't expecting a lot from this chain, but we were pleasantly surprised at the whole experience. Restaurant was super clean and bright, and the wait staff was attentive and had great attitudes. The food was delicious and fresh tasting. Mi Amigos is one of my two favorite Mexican Food restaurants. I eat there at least twice a month, more if I can. There are prompt with the chips and their yummy salsa. It is just the right hotness to make you want to eat more. The servers are always friendly and happily meet the request of the customers. My favorite dish out of all I have tired would be the Enchilada style chimichanga, with green sauce. Oh my goodness I eat so much that my stomach hurts but I would go back for the next meal there. I grew up going to Mi Amigo's with my family so it is a bit of a nostalgic experience for me. I noticed that they menu was different than I remember on our most recent visit. My favorite thing has always been the Nachos Mi Amigo's with machaca. They had nachos, but I didn't want to order them because they weren't described on the menu like they used to be. My hubby got a chicken chimi and stopped eating it halfway through because the chicken had a strange texture. His beans were also lukewarm. The salsa is totally amazing, but you can't go to a restaurant solely for the salsa! read more

We enjoy the food at Mi Amigo's, but I think it's a bit pricey for the quality and quantity. My favorite is their enchiladas with beans and rice. My children enjoy the chips and salsa the most and we usually go through many bowls of chips before our entrees arrive. I wish their portions were not so spare. Shocked when I walked in, this place is beautiful and clean! Nothing to any other mexican resturant I have ever been to, the hosts were so sweet we got sat by oscar and my server was alexa. She was attentive and cared about our food and our happiness, food came out fast and was WONDERFUL. The place was pretty busy but she did an excellent job to make us feel welcomed and important. A manager (I think his name was chase or chad) came by and made us feel even more welcomed. I love this place and will be back soon. read more

I was there last week for a baby shower the food was good but the service was ok. I also had a birthday party there was not impressed by the food at all it tasted old and service was ok again. I reserved the back room . I was told one price and ended paying for stuff I didn't want or need. So if you have a party or special event at mi amigos get everything in writing. I like Mi Amigos especially their cheese enchiladas. Yesterday I went in for the special to take out because my family all worked different hours. They would not let me get the special which upset me because I had driven from the far south valley to come into Mesa to get the special. I looked on the the facebook page and nothing was said about not being able to order for take out. I can understand limiting it like Someburros does when they have a special. We have been patronizing Mi Amigos since 1986. However, now it will be hard to step inside this place again. Every birthday Mi Amigos sends us a text for our birthday, good for $15 on your birthday. My wife's birthday this year fell on a Sunday, this past May 17th. In accordance to our religion we honor the sabbath day, not shopping or going out on sundays. I called the restaurant and told them my dilemma asking if we could come in the day before or the day after with my wife's birthday deal. The mgr said no, and the GM, Oscar, said no! UNBELIEVABLE!! Even the owners, the Candland's, understand the principle of "keeping the sabbath day holy." It's so hard for us to understand the management not allowing us to use the birthday text on a day other than on sunday, her birthday. This is nothing short of "religious bias/discrimination," which is unlawful and immoral. We drove by the Mi Amigos today, and could not stop in for lunch. So sad!! read more

We came with a large group, and they did a great job with the service. The food was brought out fairly quickly, and was very good. It was pretty standard Mexican fare done well. I had red Chile with big chunks of meat that was tender with a good consistency (a lot of spice-not really too hot, but strong). The others in my party were all happy as well. We ate here last night and we were very disappointed. The salsa for some reason is never the same and this time the tomatoes tasted like canned. My veggie chimi is normally good but this time they used only the stems of the mushroom and it made it taste funny. Who uses only stems?? That shows they are doing it cheap instead of good. We had a party of 6 and all of us could wear a mask but 1 could not due to a medical condition and they refused us service and would NOT allow us to sit inside. The service was so terrible. We waited over 15 minutes to give our drink order, and the waiter ran off before we could tell him that we were obviously ready to give our requests. The small menu did not make it difficult to decide - this place has very few selections and not many traditional Mexican favorites. After the long wait to give our order, we decided to split the nachos. Seems simple enough, right? Not a chance. After waiting for what felt like ages (noticing a theme here?), the greasy nachos were placed in front of us. We tried to stomach the soggy chips and stale beans, but could barely finish half. First time here June 26. The sever Joseph was great. I asked him what he liked best, it was the Rellen Platter. It is Mi Amigo's version of a Chili Relleno. I didn't even see it on the menu until Joseph pointed it out and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have ordered it. This was one of the best meals I have had in awhile! Hands down! Good food and service! I preferred the more lively decor they used to have which was part of the experience. I miss having the location at Superstition Springs...once they started making changes to the decor of their facility, the quality of the food also changed. And the location closed. Hoping the same does not happen at the Gilbert Rd location. Wish they used yellow cheddar instead of the MJ on their cheese crisps, which they used to use. Horrible, food was dry and my husband ordered carne asade he could barely cut. My fish tacos were just a hunk of fried fish that looked like a long johns silver fish stick and had less flavor. It's very disappointing to go out for a family night and spend money to not be able to enjoy it. There is no love put into this place and food.... oh and we were sat and told they were out of menus?! I have been coming here for 20+ years and over all really like the restaurant. It's not fine dining but they have some pretty good chips and salsa and certain menu items are consistently good. Simply the best Tacos you can find around here. They use real shells, not the crappy taco bell style shells. Great enchalda sauce and amazing machaca chimis. I'm from Tucson originally, and I've been searching for a good Sonoran-style place for a while now. This place is OK. The menu is pretty much standard fare. I got a chimichanga, enchilada-style, and it wasn't bad, but it just felt a little manufactured. In fact, the whole place has a manufactured feel to it. It's just too chain-like. Went here for a quick lunch. Was greeted by an employee ( manager?) swinging the door open towards us so fast he almost knocked us down. As soon as we were seated their music started playing "Run, Run Rudolph" so loud we could hardly hear what the hostess was saying. The music abruptly stopped afterwards never to start again while we were there. A personal serenade? The overlyfriendly waiter loaded our table with so many chips, salsa and drinks there was hardly room for our other food. Just kept dumping more on the table. I had not eaten here in years well I soon remembered why I only are here one time years ago. The service was very slow and seemed to be a lot of confusion on who had what area. When we finally placed our order it took a long time to get a drinks. The chips were not fresh at all the hot sauce and salsa laced flavor. We ordered a cheese crisp to be an appetizer well guess what all our meal and the cheese crips all came out at one time. My beans had no flavor my burrito was enchilada Style and also was very bland no flavor at all. My wife's red burrito the meat was very tuff has lots of meat but tuff her taco was good.
