Mian was a good addition to the West Adams area, especially since most people are used to all the good Chinese food being in the San Gabriel Valley or Rowland Heights. It's also pretty rare finding a Sichuan restaurant towards West LA, until Mian appeared! I was grateful that Mian opened up in West Adams. There are days where I just crave eating beef noodle soups or having dumplings and when I'm on that side of town, it's nice to know that there is a place that I can get it. I still have to get used to the numbing feeling in my mouth and the spice that Sichuan flavors can bring but after a while, their noodle soups can be really soothing especially on a rainy day or chilly night. If you want to skip the noodle soups, their fried rice is pretty good. We ordered their lobster fried rice the last time we were there and it was tasty. It was also the first place where I tried their mung bean tea which I ended up enjoying. I wish they had a hot version but the one they served was still tasty. Parking is street parking yet not too difficult to find in the area. The customer service was chill, yet on point and everyone was pretty nice. The atmosphere is also pretty chill and comfortable. A solid dinner spot if you are craving noodles that's extremely generous with the portion sizes. Came on a Friday night and got seated immediately. Ordering is done through an app, and we got 2 bowls of soup (spicy beef and beef rib), some pork dumplings, and the steamed egg. Noodle soups were great with plenty of meat and noodles. I'd highly recommend getting either one. The dumplings and steamed egg were just OK; the dumplings tasted good but had a bit of a chewy texture in the filling, and the egg was under-seasoned unfortunately. Ordered to-go on the phone on a Monday night around 6 pm. We got the crispy prawns, the spicy beef noodle soup, and the chengdu zajiang miàn, which came out to about $45 without tip. It was about a 20ish minute drive and they told us that it would be 15-20 minutes and that they would text us when it was ready. We never got the text but thankfully, when we arrived it was ready. I parked right outside and the inside seem sleek and modern, with attentive service that immediately addressed my partner who was out quickly. We drove about 5 minutes to our destination and the food was still warm. The noodle soup was separated from the noodles and vegetables while the zajiang sauce was kept in a separate container, keeping the noodles from becoming soggy. We dug into the noodles first. I poured the entire contents of zajiang sauce which was delicious but ended up being slightly too salty, I should have added a little bit less last time. the prawns were still a little crispy but not very seasoned. I also didn't like the chili oil that I was packaged with and ended up eating the prawns with the saltier zajiang noodles which tasted delicious! The spicy beef noodle soup had amazing flavor and the soup was so delicious and umami. I loved the Bok choy with both dishes (it was cooked perfectly, not over cooked or undercooked). I probably wouldn't get the prawns again, but would definitely try their other food options. I would definitely get the zajiang noodles again. read more

I checked other reviews to make sure I wasn't crazy. There is a manager there that is rude and probably racist. The food is a solid 7 maybe 7.5 but this manager takes it to a 2. He's extremely rude and dismissive. I can tell (through asking) some of the employees don't even like him. Spent 80$ yesterday and 40$ today. He refused an accommodation I asked for just yesterday and got approved. He saw me put my order in on the kiosk, and, instead of bringing me my order or letting me know it's ready (like other waiters have done) he placed it by pick up and just waited. Then when I got up to get it he acted like I was bothering him and just said "name?" TWICE like I'm a child and not a grown man. Our friend recommended this place as a quick, casual spot for dinner. We found street parking fairly easy, but we think we got lucky since it was a Friday evening. We were seated right as we walked in. There's a QR code on the tables so it makes for easy ordering and paying later. The service was good, as they came by to refill our waters and delivered our food in a timely fashion. Everyone we interacted with are all very friendly at this location. We decided to get the pickled cucumbers, the pork chili oil dumplings, the Sichuan hot and sour soup noodles, the clear broth Zajiang noodles, and the chengdu Zajiang noodles. The pickled cucumbers and the dumplings were very good. Exactly what we hoped for, better even. The cucumbers were very crunchy and had a good flavor to them (and there was enough for 3 to share!) while the dumplings were very soft and delicious. We wish there were more dumplings that came in one order for dumplings for the price, but they were one of our favorite things we had. The noodles: all of our dishes had that, "numbing spice," and I suspect all of the noodle dishes do. This wasn't an issue for any of us, but I think that's important to disclose in case the numbing-type spice isn't your thing. My husband got the Sichuan hot and sour soup noodles, and he enjoyed it well enough, but our favorite were the clear broth Zajiang noodles. Our friend got the chengdu Zajiang noodles, which he said were awesome. Those noodles didn't come in a broth, but had a sauce at the bottom that you mixed together. I was excited to try Mian in West Adams, as it's much closer to me than going to the SGV. I picked up takeout, so I can't comment on how the service is dining there. My order was ready on time, so that was a positive. I ordered two dishes - the Sichuan Cold Noodles (3 peppers) and the Chengdu Zajiang Noodles (one pepper). I would have though the cold noodles would have been waaaaay spicier than the Zajiang, but found that they were about the same level of spiciness. Hmmmmm. Both dishes had that pleasant buzz from the Sichuan peppercorns that slightly numbed my mouth. I probably should have ordered a different noodle dish, because the flavors were fairly similar, though the Zajiang had pork, egg and box choy. That said, I did enjoy them both. Prices on the menu on their website were outdated, and there's a 4% health surcharge, which I did not see listed either, which resulted in my order costing more than I was expecting. The building is nice and clean but almost feels like a fast food restaurant with how the interior is set up and styled. The service was fast and efficient but very stiff with how they interacted with guests. A friend recommended this place to me and all I can say is it was absolutely delicious. The service was great, while you can order online to be able to handle payment in a much easier way, you can also get serviced by a waiter. 3 of us got the spicy beef noodles, 2 of us got mild soup and then one of us got the numbing oil. The broth was sooo good, and the meat with bok Choy and noodles was the perfect mix. I rarely finish a bowl of ramen but today I did. The shrimp fried rice was not a favorite personally and the chicken Katsu was alright understandably so. The ambience was very modern, but had plenty of seating for parties of at least 6 people. Quite an esthetic corner restaurant with hip, modern designs. The seats inside were also pretty quirky and fun, not very functional/comfortable tho. I was able to find street parking nearby but they have a garage around the corner you can park at as well. I was really excited to try this place out bc I love spicy Chinese food. We ordered the mapo tofu, chengdu zajiang noodle, and wontons. The wontons were not bad, just not worth the price.. The mapo was just ok, I've had much better. The Chengdu noodles were also just ok. The flavor was good but it was way to oily with barely any spiciness. I ordered it with their highest spice level and it felt like just a tickle. The noodles were a bit too mushy for my liking. Overall a very mediocre place that's overhyped. If you are really craving Chinese noodles and are willing to pay for overpriced food, I guess you can give it try read more

When I saw the 4-star rating I had high expectations and hopes for a delicious dinner. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Mian touts itself and there's a lot of hype on the menu, but the food falls woefully short. The dumplings were OK but had a filling that appeared mass produced. The shrimp fried rice looked and tasted as though it had been made ahead of time and had no "wok hei", even if it was generous. The Chengdu Zajiang Noodle was greasy and tasteless as well. None of the dishes we ordered were any good, unfortunately. Beverage-wise they have beer, sake, and the only wine choice is some sort of pink wine with a $45 price tag; bring your own and pay the corkage. The room is nice, but boomy, and the tables are small; same with the seats. Service was spotty, too. This place was a disappointment; I don't understand why people rate it highly. I got the tomato and beef noodle soup (sub rice noodle for a gluten-free option), and I thought the food was incredible. The soup was sweet, savory, and comforting. Noods had a nice, al dente bite. I alao had a reasonable portion of sliced beef. The dish overall was very noodle-heavy, and it was a perfect way to end a rather chilly night in LA. Was really craving some spicy beef noodle soup over the weekend so came by to check this spot out. This review is specifically for the beef noodle soup. I dropped by on a Sunday late afternoon, and there was no wait so we were seated immediately. Found some street parking nearby. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed how modern it was. Pretty chic design and layout. I already knew what I wanted to order coming in so I was ready to go. Do keep in mind that this beef noodle soup is Szechuan style and not a Taiwanese style. One of the main differences here is that Szechuan uses a ton of peppercorn to achieve the spice and numbing taste. I personally am a fan of Taiwanese style but this is a Szechuan restaurant so I knew what to expect in terms of the peppercorn. However, I thought the numbing taste was a bit too overwhelming for me, and most of the spice was achieved with chili oil making the broth too oily for me. As you can see in the photo, the broth is super red from the oil. It's actually not as spicy as you'd think. Everything else was fine though - the flour noodles were delicious, beef was pretty tender, and a decent amount of bok choy served. I probably won't be coming back for my beef noodle cravings but glad I got to try it. read more

Me and my girlfriend truly enjoyed the food, service, and ambience of MIAN. The Spicy Beef Soup Noodle is my go to and it provides a great spice kick and that sweet numbing sensation with the peppercorn cooked into the broth. MIAN does not short change you on the beef in the soup, instead they give you a great helping that will satisfy any consumer. The Sho Chiku Bai Sale Nigori was a satisfying complement to cleanse the pallet after devouring the noodles. This is one of my favorite places in LA and I recommend you to make it yours as well. read more

We got a few of dishes to share - pickled something, fried rice, noodles, and dumplings. I tend to like rice and fried rice, but she thought it was bland, which was a fair point. I would still order it again. Very light in taste, almost too light. I really liked the dumplings, we got pork. All the food was good. I forget which exact dishes we got since we paid on the iPad and didn't get a print out receipt. Still, I would eat here again. The only down side is parking. It took me 15 to find parking. One of my favorite places to go and always a place I recommend for dinner! The food is good, portions are large, and it's pretty inexpensive compared to other LA restaurants. There's also a parking lot!! It's hidden and somewhat hard to find but I found it! It's located right next to the tartine and you just go down the side street, so don't drive too fast or you'll miss it. It's a couple minutes away from the restaurant but hey, you can't beat free parking. There's also free street parking but it's not as abundant as you'd think. Ok onto the food - The spicy chili oil wontons are a must! The sauce is so good and the wontons were cooked perfectly. Chengdu Zajang Noodle was the perfect amount of szechuan and numbness! Great flavor and perfect portion - it fed 2 (along with the wontons) The spicy pork dumplings were also super goodX the sauce was nice and sweet with a kick to it. Dumplings were cooked super well with a nice bite to it I'd skip the sweet & spicy radish, it was harder than I expected and was okay - I wish it was a bit more tangy. Their mung bean tea is a MUST! $3 for all you can drink mung bean tea... and it's SOOO good. Overall a great place. At lunch with friends recently and West Adams comes up in conversation. Immediately, one friend inquires about whether I'd been to Mian. I admitted that I'd been meaning to and was met with enthusiastic encouragement due the quality and flavor of the food. Next day I hit it when doors opened for lunch. I was greeted kindly by one of the chefs as the kitchen is open air, accessible to patrons view. Lots of casual seating, warm ambiance, looking out via floor to ceiling windows to the boulevard. Timo was the main attendant working the floor, greeting, seating guests and taking orders--so appreciated his considerate hospitality. Placed a to-go order, 15 minutes, out the door. In the mood for shrimp, I grabbed popcorn shrimp, kung pao shrimp, some veggie fried rice and spicy broccoli. It was a warm day so I skipped the noodles and soup dishes, which I'm told is what all the fuss is about. What I did order was perfectly cooked, spiced, and portioned. I spend lots of time in mid city, near West Adams so Mian is now on my list of go-to spots. Thank you! read more
