I only stopped in for a quick beverage and bathroom stop so I cannot weigh in on the food, but this was my first time having Mung Tea and boy, was it good! I believe it's caffeine free according to some googling, but I could be wrong. It's a very sweet tea sort of similar to Southern Sweet Tea but with a much fuller flavor. At only $3, it comes with free refills although one was enough for me. The staff were super friendly, you order on your phone, and I sat at the bar so I could watch the chefs prepare the dumplings fresh in front of me which was really cool! This review is for their takeout service. Called 6 times around 7:30 PM on a Thursday evening. Received the automated voice message 4 out of those 6 times. On the 5th try, someone answered but put us on hold. We waiting a while until we were hung up on. Called again for the 6th time and received the same individual who picked up earlier: Food was ready in 20 minutes. We get to the restaurant and there's only 3 tables full of people. Restaurant seemed overstaffed but attentiveness of the service seemed to be lacking. Maybe the rush had just passed? But hard to tell. Tried the food. What a great find. The taste is SPOT ON. The numbness, chili oil, and textures are spot on. The noodles with ground pork and an egg was incredible. The shrimp fried rice and chili oil dumplings were delicious and the fries with sichuan seasoning was creative and very tasty. I added extra ground pork , which turned out to be unnecessary, as their portions was very adequate. All that food for 2 with 20% tip was 58$. This was my go to place for noodle. Not after today's experience. There is a small waitlist Sunday lunch time. 2 tables on the waitlist. With two empty tables in the restaurant. Since the tables have been empty for a while and the waiter standing seems to be not busy, he was literally standing there, I asked the waiter if we could sit at one of the tables, he rolled his eyes and said. Please step outside and wait. And I asked why can't we sit down when there is an empty table. He said he was getting it ready for us. We stepped outside and waited. He was very rude and after he set the tables. He didn't call anyone from the waitlist. And after he had 3 empty tables he started calling the other group, and then us. It's so hard to find a good szechuan style food. The spice and numbness in these dishes are set to perfection. My favorite and only dishes I get from here are either the rib spicy noodles or the spicy beef noodles. In this area, it's difficult to find a place that does it better! I've been to this chain in Honolulu and in 626 and the taste is consistent. The beef given at this location though is quite generous and worth every single penny! I highly recommend this dish, especially if you're trying to clear your sinuses. All my friends love the umami flavor and spicy kick that has that mild numbing effect. Even the veggies were cooked to perfection with a nice crunch. Normally my friend doesn't like bok choy but he loves it here because of they way it's cooked. Coming in person is nice because the staff is really great and attentive. The manager really makes himself stand out and takes care of your needs. You also get unlimited tea which compliments the spicy noodles really well. The only dishes we didn't really like were the lobster fried rice and the sour hot noodles. The soup base was okay but we didn't know the noodles would be super thin. It wasn't our favorite and the menu didn't indicate what type of noodles would be used. We just assumed it was going to be the same noodles they used for the spicy beef noodles. I do wish the menu was slightly more specific about this. Almost everything I've had has been excellent and you can't go wrong. Cold starters: Spicy black fungus: If you like mushrooms this is a MUST. I will always order this. Every. Time. Cucumbers: delicious and refreshing Spicy broccoli: a bit bland. Only ok. Hot starters: Half chicken: in the restaurant it was great and perfectly juicy and crispy. The seasoning it comes with is so. good. The one time I got it at home it was really dry. This might be a dine in only dish. House special lamb: really good. Good flavor and juicy. Dumplings: Chili oil chao shou: these are the best of the chao shou. Would get every time. Pan fried dumplings: so good that they forgot the sauce in my last order so we just ate them without sauce and they were still absolutely delicious. Golden soup chao shou: not a big fan. Bland and the chicken just didn't taste great. Chicken soup chao shou: my group literally could not tell the difference between this and the golden soup. Same issue. Noodles: I will preface this by saying nothing I've had had risen to a really high level of "numbness" which is good for me. I love spicy but too much numbness is not my jam. But if you want like the numbest of numb, you may not find that. Nothing was unbearably spicy either, even for my friends who generally can't deal with spicy. Chengdu zajiang: really good. Would definitely order again. The sauce is really good. Not spicy. I thought this had the most numbness of the three I've tried. Spicy beef noodle soup and spicy beef rib soup: these are pretty similar and both have been my groups' favorite dish each time. A tiny bit spicy and no numbness in my opinion. Mapo tofu: maybe my least favorite BUT not to say it's not delicious. It's just not quite as delicious as the other two. Would definitely get it again. Not spicy or numb. Wandered into this area on accident and stumbled upon this place. Didn't realize it was a chain of sorts but this store is really unique. The decorations were edgy and fun! Made the place feel comfortable and welcoming. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! We ordered the beef rib noodle soup and the crispy chicken appetizer. I just had a very disappointing lunch at the West Adam location. The beef in the spicy beef noodles was undercooked, very tough, and chewy and the dumpling skins were thick and doughy. To worsen the experience, a ridiculously high 4% Health LA surcharge was automatically added to the bill and the server said it couldn't be removed when requested to do so. Restaurants cannot force customers to pay the surcharge if they object. The Health LA surcharge has to be transparent and disclosed at the time of the ordering. I will be filing a complaint with the Los Angeles Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) about Mian's failure to remove the 4% Health LA surcharge from the bill. This was my first time trying this place and I ordered the Chicken Chilli Oil Dumplings and the chicken noodles. The waiter was very attentive and we ordered via the QR codes. The food came out pretty fast and I liked the ambiance of the restaurant place. However, the (assumed) manager was pretty rude. After finishing my meal and waiting for my friend to finish up, I pulled out a cookie we ordered from a nearby bakery as dessert while I waited for my friend to finish her meal. The (assumed) manager rudely ran over and said "no outside food/drink allowed" and asked me not to consume anything and put it away. I'd understand if there was a sign on the door stating this policy, or even if we just walked in without ordering food at Mian...but at that point we were already finishing up our meals, they saw me carry the cookies in and said nothing. In addition, we were paying customers at the establishment and were enjoying our meals and experience up to that point. Regardless, I said "okay" but finished my dessert anyway. The (assumed) manager came by and slapped the check on the table signaling that he wanted us to leave soon. So, we made sure to *only* generously tip the waiter who was very kind to us in cash on the way out and did not tip the establishment. Not a good first experience trying this restaurant. Disappointed. Really loved Mian the first several times, and tonight was such a bummer. The Filipino waitress and the other Asian waitress were not attentive whatsoever. So excited to have Mian expand into West Adam's from SGV, adding to the wonderful mix of restaurants blossoming along West Adam's Blvd. Behind the facade of Mian that is adorned with cool street art is delicious mian and wontons and a wonderful staff. We came by on Saturday and was seated quickly (though I imagine and hope the place to be much busier over time). They had both QR menus with photos as well as paper menus. The zhejiang mian was as tasty as I remember from SGV - the texture and flavor and amount of meat were all really good. The wonton had a light wrapping texture and you get immediately into the flavor of the pork that's pretty densely packed into the wrap. The mian cold combo is a good starter. I asked to sit near the window so I could keep an eye on my car to avoid getting a ticket. Then he said he would check with the manager if we can sit there. But right after that, a group of four came in, and the waiter gave that exact table to them. If you already promised to check with the manager for us, why give the table away in the next second? There were many other 4-seat tables available -- why not let them sit somewhere else? If you don't want us to sit there, just say no -- don't pretend to ask the manager and then turn around and give the table to someone else. Really disappointing experience. Yet at the same time, while the Sichuan peppercorns maybe intense, they're a more manageable level of spicy. So I find that the spice levels aren't too bad. Nonetheless, we decided to ask them to make the dishes more mild for our taste. We ordered the Sichuan Cold Noodles, which are plenty flavorful. This is one of the more bold items we've ordered. The noodles consisted of peanuts, bean, and green onions with a hint of sweetness. We also shared the Spicy Beef Noodles, a less intense noodle soup that was still plenty flavorful. Between the two, this better suit our tastes since it tasted more mild in flavor. We also had the spicy black fungus, an appetizer. At first, this seemed like a manageable light crunch, but the spiciness slowly grows on you. We found that it got spicier and spicier as we ate more of this. This place has been one of my favorite restaurants and favorite parts about living in West Adams over the last two years. The food is amazing, the vibes are nice, and the service has historically been great. Today, however, I feel like I may have gone for the last time :/. The service was borderline mean. Our main server was nice and attentive but everyone else was being actually kind of aggressive. Maybe about 10 minutes after getting our food one of the team members asked us if we wanted boxes. Our bowls were full. They split our bill in two without us asking (which is fine) but one of the things we ordered was outside of the online portal and they put it on the wrong check. Also fine! We asked the same team member who offered us the boxes if he could switch it to the correct check and he not only yelled "no we don't do that!" but kind of put his hand in our face and walked away. Then, 15 minutes before close and with multiple other tables at the restaurant, the same team member snatched up the placemats and said "I'm taking everything, excuse me." It was bizarre as we weren't boisterous or even a needy table. I had taken some friends who haven't been here before and was honestly humiliated by how we were being treated. The online menu doesn't label what items are gluten free or not, as their paper menu used to (based on photos of the old menu). I got the Sichuan rice noodles and thought that the flavors were okay.
