This is a hidden gem bakery in the LES / Chinatown area. They bake fresh pastries daily. Absolutely fresh and will satisfy your cravings. I got the quiches and it was absolutely do die for. If you're stumble in this area of the city stop by and grab something! They are open for takeout. read more

It's open after 8am. Very clean. It accepts Apple Pay/ credit card. I finally tried the vegan babka (~$5) per piece. It's as good as the normal babka, rich but not super sweet. Highly recommend for who ever loves babka but wants a vegan option! read more

This was so good, the cherry cheese babka. My mom who is one of the most picky and complaining eater praised the taste, flaky crust and it not being very sweet. She ate every flaky on the plate. I had ask if it was good and I believe the man himself said it was "amazing"; it is! I think it was a weekend special. *If one wants to know what is baking, they post it on Instagram. There was a line forming when I walked out. Right now they prefer one person enters at a time, the shop is cozy. But customers were understanding and kind, line moves quick. read more

What a wonderful addition to our neighborhoods. The staff is helpful and friendly, and the owner is friendly and approachable. I always thought that Breads had the best babka in town, so when my husband and I found out that Breads Bakery's former pastry chef opened up shop few blocks from my apartment, I knew that my days of having an actual waistline were numbered...I mean, BABKA!! Anyhow, the babka at Michaeli iis even better than any one you can buy at Breads. I've also had their chocolate chip cookie, the alfajores and the cheese danish. The alfajores are a true crowd-pleaser, and the cheese danish and chocolate chip cookie were very good. I'll have to try some of their savory offerings soon, but for now I can honestly say that this bakery is exactly what our neighborhood needed, so thank you for bringing sp much rich and delicious happiness to my belly Michaeli! And, no worries....I forgive you for the extra 5 lbs I'm now carrying around and for the fact that people now refer to me as plump; I mean that's what babkas are, and they're beautiful! ;) read more

This place is a rip off. Small bureka is 4.5!! Are you kidding me? In addition, it didn't even taste that good. the cheese was all located in one place and way too salty. I was ready to leave as soon as I walked in, but my wife insisted on trying the apple turnover. It was the worst Apple turnover I've ever had. It was mostly hollow with very thin walls with very little apple on the bottom. Also $4.5. Most of the other stuff that's on the menu wasn't on display, I can only review what I tried . In addition, I would say that the place was not attractive at all to shop or dine in. read more

It's a small shop with delicious baked goods. I went in around 4 pm on a Saturday and they still had a good selection of items. I tried the spicy cheese stick and chocolate rugelach and I'm in love. I intended to share but it was too good. The cheese stick was moist inside with a crispy flakiness you want in a quality pastry. The rugelach was buttery chocolate heaven. Great pastry, but the counter service is horrible. I was there with my colleague at 11:00 AM, who had just purchased a dozen Hanukkah donuts. The young man at the counter was pleasant to everyone but intentionally rude to my colleague. We have been there twice this week and got the same vibe. I would love to promote local businesses, but I do not want to support a company that treats specific customers this way, and I wonder if the shop owner is aware of this. read more

Go there on the weekend (Fri-Sun) because they make their special savory cheese-filled pastry and it is one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten! I have to go back and ask what it's called (and maybe have an extra one, or ten) because it was so good (edit: I went back, again, and again, and found out it is called the Pastry Ghalil). Wait, what what what??? I thought Breads got the goods but as it turns out, the most delicious chocolate babka is actually found in Michaeli! I've not tasted 98% of the items in this small shop, but I do not need to because if you can perfect a babka then what else do you have to make to make us notice you're one helluva chef? If I could give 0 starts I would, just for the fact that I came last year for Hanakkuah and had the exact same problem, it's 10am and they are already out of Pistachio and all the good flavors I wanted! An entire year waiting and again I recieve disappointment !! You would think they'd learn from Previous years.... they should really manage a plan ahead better. The employee told me their UES location possibly has pistachio available if I'd like for her to check, and I appreciate her efforts but, 1. I live down here and 2. it's ridiculous for one store to have everything in stock and the other doesn't, it's as if the new store has priority over this small one. Again, very disappointed. read more

Stumbled upon this Israeli bakery, and glad we did. We had the chocolate babka, which was crunchy on the outside with chocolaty goodness on the inside. However, it was a little to dry/crunchy for my taste. We also tried the tahini cookies which was delicious. read more

I have never heard of burekas before and goodness, have I been missing out! I got myself a spinach one and a mini one with feta for a late lunch and, after walking around for an hour, I am still stuffed! The crust is flaky and the melted cheese is all gooey inside; my mouth is watering just thinking about it! There isn't a lot of seating, but it was enough when I went in the late afternoon. You can also sit outside on the bench in good weather or take your treats to the nearby park. I also purchased a chocolate babka to go for my husband and it's just calling my name. It's taking a whole lot of self-restraint not to open it up until he gets home. Can't wait to try the other items on the menu. read more

We came off the street because the smell was sooo enticing. Lol, seriously imagine: the Disney scene where an animal follows his nose to the delicious freshly baked pie in the window. We grabbed some croissants and the chocolate babka. The babka is stuffed with chocolate. You can't go wrong. Make sure to pace yourself. The staff was friendly and also didn't rush us to make a selection even though we were super indecisive at first because we wanted everything. They did help guide our final choices. read more

Wonderful pastries both sweet and savory. Think there's an Mediterranean? twist to the savory ones. More recently found that they participate in Too Good To Go so I've been buying a surprise grab bag at the end of the day. Always delicious and worth it even at full price. Highly recommend them. Cute little bakery! Had the rugelach with Nutella and dark chocolate and a pistachio and cherry croissant. The rugelach was oddly disappointing, it was a little dry and not very flavorful. Um, YASS?! This is what we need in the hood! Solid coffee and some amaaazing desserts and pastries. My friends and I pigged out on some rugelach, coconut mango cake, meringue roulade (which was light and fluffy and my fave so far), and washed it down with some iced coffee. Our server was super friendly and patiently answered questions and explained the pastries to us (maybe he was the owner? He seemed way more enthusiastic than the average server hah). This new bakery in Chinatown is truly A-MAZING! Although I would like to keep it to myself, everyone needs to visit ASAP. The rugalach, cheese Danish, and strawberry meringue cake were all phenomenal. The meringue cake was almost heavenly. Also, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and the location is adorable. Absolutely delicious baked goods, Michaeli Bakery has quickly become one of my favorites. HOWEVER... a cautionary tale: do NOT get the poppy seed danish if you are getting drug tested the next day. I did, and enjoyed every bite. I did not, however, enjoy testing positive for opioids. No, I do not do opioids. You live and you learn. Enjoy the danish after your drug test, not before. read more

Excellent burekas and rugelach. The double chocolate cookie is to die for, melty and gooey chocolate chips, better than Levain. Food comes out fresh from the oven. Nice salesperson. There are a few seats inside by a counter and one table outside so it is better to take away the food. You will likely eat it on your way. read more

Mango's sponge probably only took up 20% of the bottom, because I barely had bites of it. Most of my bites didn't have any. I didn't like how liquid the filling was. It didn't exactly ooze out but just melted into a puddle in my mouth. Yuzu looks pretty with the pink and yellow glaze, but it didn't go with the realistic fruit theme. I chose it for the flavor combination which is strawberry, yuzu, and guava. This was slightly better in terms of flavor variety in the mouth. The flower on top had a weird off putting flavor. The bottom crispy rice apparently is supposed to be chocolate but it came out plain. It was tasteless anyway, so not effective in terms of flavor or texture.
