Not impressed by the food or service. Visited them for brunch about month ago and will not be back. Overpriced mimosas ($7 each for a small champagne flute is ridiculous) and the food was just average. My husband and I left because we felt very uncomfortable after the table next to us ordered salad, which they were out of lettuce, then french toast, which they were out of syrup, and a couple of other items I can't recall. Oh, and no table visit by a manager!! I can't believe this place is still in business. Our bill was $50 for 4 small mimosas, an egg & cheese bagel, and an omlet! What a ripoff!!! read more

My wife and I had dinner here last night. I must say that the food was very good. I had the steak au poivre and my wife had the stuffed grouper. Again, the food was excellent --the portions, not so much. The crab bisque was very tasty and quite filling. The crab cakes were also delicious. The menu is quite limited; however, with good choices. The only thing that I really couldn't stand about this place is their attitude towards my wife and I. I guess this place is just not for people of "our kind". We will probably not return because we sensed the "you don't belong here" in the atmosphere but we may just return to see if we were wrong. read more

Great family owned place. Absolutely get the French onion soup. I mean that soup ...yum-o. The portions are big so we shared a burger and they split it for us and even put fries on each plate. Sunday brunch here is awesome! Their sicilian omlette is now the only way I eat an omlette! Ricotta cheese and italian sausage...I always add onions to mine, delicious! Meh. It's cozy, and it's in one of the more attractive strip malls in the area, but that's about it. Sooo, lunch. The She-Crab Bisque was tasty but SO over-salted. Salads are pretty expensive for canned ingredients on romaine with a topping of fish or chicken ($12-15). Sandwiches had big portions but were also pretty salty. Service was incredibly slow--emptied appetizer plates sat on the table crusting over well after the main food was brought out, and I could probably find more water refills in the desert. It was okay, but I wasn't really impressed & can't really see myself going back. Maybe dinner is better? read more

We had an amazing dinner tonight for our 21 year old grandson to celebrate his birthday. our party of 11 was extremely happy with all of the meals. The salmon, mango chicken, the crabcakes and the pasta Bolognese were all outstanding dinners. Michael's is one of my favorite casual restaurants in the city. I truly can't emphasize enough how consistently DELICIOUS and fresh their food is. Only enjoyed lunch here, but I'd eat there any time of day. Almost always I will get a salad with blackened salmon- because its so damn good I never want to try anything else. The seafood is excellent, as well as the soups and quiche. All are full of flavor and taste like from-scratch goodness. The staff obviously takes pride in what they do. Such a beautiful quaint cafe, sitting inside you would think you were in Tuscany or Paris not Tampa. We went for Sunday Brunch and it was absolutely perfect. We had the Pom martinis and omelettes. The omelettes were light and fluffy and the cheese grit were fantastic. The Martinis were knock your socks off, not watered down here. The price was right at around $40 for 2 martinis and 2 large omelettes with sides. Will definitely go back. read more

Solid three star place, had a business lunch here service was very friendly and the food came out relatively quick. I had the Eiffel Tower, recommended by the server and wasn't really impressed with the flavor and quality for a $12 sandwich..very blah. The others seemed to like their food. Service was slow to get refills. Last Tuesday a friend and I wanted to try some where new so we choose Michael's it was an amazing choice! We had great service from Brooke followed by delicious sangria. ( I am a little picky with my sangria and I would say it is in my top 3) We shared fried Brie it was so cheesy and melt in your mouth good! I never write reviews but I had to write this one . Last Saturday my husband and I went to Michaels grill on a date night . We both ordered filets to be cooked "medium ". My husbands steak was well done . We usually don't send food back but we kindly asked if he could have another one cooked medium . After 25 minutes of waiting for his steak, waitress came back with another one . I was already done with my meal by then . My husband asked for a second glass of wine to have with his meal . The waitress took more than 15 minutes to bring it back . He was almost done with his meal by then. She said she poured it and forgot to bring it . Although the food was truly amazing , the service we received this evening was extremely disappointing. Not once did the manager/chef come out to check on us . When we got the bill I thought for sure we wouldn't be charged for the second glass of wine , but yep , we were . I have always loved this restaurant , but don't know if I will be back . read more

A great little hidden gem! I have been going to Michael's for a very long time for both business lunches and family dinners. The staff there is extremely knowledgable and very pleasant. All are well trained. We've gotten to know the owners and they are truly honest, hard-working people. Michael is a classically trained chef and his wife, Andrea makes all the pastries right there. This is an elegant yet casual neighborhood restaurant that you have to work to find. It's definitely not a dive even though it's tucked in a little strip center behind Barnes & Noble and Mimi's (chain!). The food at Michael's is not your typical fare. They have wonderful homemade sauces and unique pairings. Start with the She-Crab soup and the pork sliders. For the main entree, my wife loves the salmon dishes, I enjoy the Southwestern Pork, and my son and his wife always go for the wasabi crusted tuna. We'll be back many more times. read more

i came in recently and all i can say is, wow! Everything seemed too perfect to believe: delicious food, friendly and warm service, and a wonderful aesthetic. I ordered crab bisque, rossini, and sticky toffee (to complete the evening of course) and there wasn't a single tiny bite i wasn't in mouthwatering heaven. Tried this restaurant for the first, because i had read that they will use gluten free bread with sandwiches and they did! I had a turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato & cheese on gluten free bread and it was excellent. Everything tasted fresh. My only concern was the length of time it took for our meal to be served. The restaurant was busy, but it appears the kitchen couldn't handle a full house. I'm willing to give the place another try, hoping this was not the norm. read more

My husband and I came here for breakfast. We were sat outside and there were 2 other tables occupied. 2 different servers came out several times and attended the other tables. They took their drink and food orders and not once were we acknowledged. After 15 minutes, we decided to leave. We let the hostess know what happened and advised the manager. We politely let her know that we no longer wanted their services, but just wanted to provide the feedback. She first offered us free mimosas which we declined. My Wife and I sat at 8:15 I ordered the Duck Blueberry and a cup of coffee my wife ordered a onion soup and Chocalate mousse and a pinot noir . My dish took 36 minutes for service I think 12 minutes is industry standard The pinot was very good The Mousse was okay The coffee never came until 25 minutes after I ordered it and only after i reminded the waitress . The Duck was a disaster The meat was rubbery and the sauce tasted like KC masterpiece Bbq sauce with grape jelly stirred in , the mashed potatoes had burnt bitter garlic as a seasoninng Horrible. The Cauflower was like a bad vegitable jerky I think they tried to grill the vegatable but instead burned it and left it as dry as an crouton . I grew up eating duck regularly and i cook both potatoes and cauiflower regularly This was really pathetic . read more

I hosted a bridal shower in the party room at Michael's Grill this past weekend, and it was FANTASTIC! I don't live in the area, so it was a challenge to find a good location without being able to see it in person, try the food, etc. However, I could not have been more pleased with the whole experience. I worked mostly with Andrea to coordinate everything, and she was easygoing and worked around our schedule, budget, and decorating plans. When I arrived to set up for the event, she was there to welcome me and offer help. In addition, there were a couple staff assigned to our group who did a great job too. The location is great and has plenty of parking. The restaurant is charming and beautifully decorated. The food was delicious! There was an assortment of yummy brunch items and desserts, but my favorites included the muffins and rum bread pudding! Thanks again for a great experience! read more

Went there for the first time tonight for dinner after reading all the reviews. What a disappointment. The place inside looks old. I had crab cakes and Caesar salad. They tasted like they had been frozen and rewarmed but were actually mushy and cool inside. The salad was very average at best. My boyfriend got a filet and it was under done, and the meat was chewy and fatty and small. The worst part was the rum and coke had something large and black floating in it. The ice in the water had black spots. The butter for the tasteless bread was full of garlic. I will not go back. read more

I used to come here quite often, my father did the interior construction before they opened and Michael always cooked us a great meal. That was years ago. Since I've moved back to Tampa, thought I would stop in for lunch with friends. Michaels Grill has changed and it is HORRIBLE! The lunch menu is just sandwiches and salads, blah! The Service was awful! There were 3 empty tables outside and it was beautiful outside, but we couldn't sit there, they were reserved. So we had to wait for a table, even though there was a table open that seated 6, we were a group of four. They wouldn't let us sit there. While we were waiting for the table to be cleaned, a group of 3 came in and the hostess sat them at the table for 6!!! WTF!!! We finally sat down and ordered right away. We waited a very long time to get our food, the group of 3 at the 6 table got their food quickly, and so did a couple of tables who ordered after us! When the food finally came, they gave me the wrong quiche. I ordered the special, florentine. The waitress didn't notice that it was not what I ordered and went to fix it, but then she said they were out of the special. I looked over at a few of the tables that got their food before us, and ordered after us, they had 3 slices of Florentine quiche. Again WTF!!!! So then I asked why they were able to get what they ordered, when we ordered before them... She just said that our table had a sandwich that took longer than theirs! Really! So I just kept the shecrab soup. Which use to be amazing, but now it has a gravy consistency! Yuck! We were all very disappointed with the service! And the food is not up to par like it used to be. My friends thought the sandwich and salad were not high quality and definitely not worth the $$$. Sorry Michael, but you should just close lunch service or fix it! read more
