The name "Michi Sushi" does not tell the real story because they serve Japanese, Chinese and Thai dishes. I brought my family the other night; the kids loved the General Tso's and Pad Thai. My wife and I are asian so asian food is our comfort food and Michi Sushi made us feel very comfortable. First, it's an Asian fusion place which makes it easier to order something familiar when you're not in the mood to try new stuff. Second, their sushi boat for two is amazing! Hi, I ordered a dinner pack with choice of 2 items teriyaki shrimp and soup. Shrimp was tasty and awesome but soup was not too good and satisfied. Michi Sushi is truly a little gem in the heart of the Westtown shopping center. I know what you're thinking: strip mall sushi can't be good! But, you're wrong. Michi Sushi far exceeds any expectations you may have. A BYOB restaurant, the service staff hastily brought us wine glasses for our enjoyment. The wait staff is friendly and very accommodating. Tonight, my girlfriend and I decided to get a couple apps and split a few different rolls while we enjoyed our Cabernet Sauvignon. We started with the Avocado Twister, which is an absolute must-try, and the steamed shrimp shu-mai, which was delectable. For our rolls, we split the house roll, salmon avocado, peanut avocado (awesome!), QQ eel roll (my favorite), and the lobster roll (my girlfriend's favorite.) Everything was fresh, served to us very quickly. We liked it so much that we decided to get two pieces of yellowtail sushi and two pieces of scallop sushi for "dessert." DO NOT EAT HERE! I got takeout sushi from this restaurant last night and there was a WORM in the white fish on my rainbow roll. It was absolutely disgusting! I returned my order to the restaurant where the manager confirmed that it was indeed a worm. He had the audacity to ask if I wanted them to make me new food as I watched their "chefs" continue to place sushi orders on the counter. There are some things that you can shop for a bargain on, but raw fish is not one of them! There's a reason why this place is cheap! Head another half mile into town and eat at Kooma!!! UPDATE (6/5/13): I feel that it is only fair to update my review after speaking with the Chester County Board of Health's inspector who visited Michi in response to my complaint. The inspector indicated that the owner was very cooperative and did not attempt to cover up the incident. The fish in question was fluke and he did confirm to the inspector that a live worm was found by me and brought back to the restaurant. It was identified as a type of round worm. Relatively harmless to humans, but gross in food nonetheless. The manager had all receipts and paper work in order. The fish I consumed was delivered that morning. Apparently the restaurant does not normally order fluke, but did for some reason recently. Fish that is indented to be served raw is required to be frozen at -4 degrees for 7 days prior to serving. This is a "parasite destruction guarantee." It is my understanding that the primary supplier for Michi does this for them so that the fish is ready to serve upon arrival to the restaurant. The supplier that the fluke came from does not freeze the fish prior to delivery. Apparently, there was a lack of communication between the supplier and Michi regarding the state of the product in question when it arrived. The product was served without freezing, hence the existence of the parasite. The owner stated that the entire shipment of that fish was disposed of immediately and that fluke will be taken off the menu permanently regardless. It is my opinion that this incident was still a major oversight on the part of the restaurant owner/manager and also the chefs who prepared the roll. Michi deserves to have it noted that everything else seemed to be up to par in the restaurant when the inspector visited and that they were cooperative with the investigation. There annual inspection takes place in July of this year. read more

It's in a strip mall and is set up like seemingly every small sushi place with a small prep bar in a back corner, take out counter by the front door and 20-25 tables spaced tightly in the rest of the space. Michi Sushi has been a go to restaurant for me in regards to sushi for a while now since they opened. However, the restaurant has been on a steady decline since they opened. They have since increased their prices while the rolls and portions have gotten smaller. The 1 star rating they receive for me is largely in part to the TERRIBLE service I received. A few nights ago, I called in a pick up order just before 8pm. When I arrived to the restaurant they tell me that another customer took my order from the counter instead. No apology, I was told to wait while they made a new order. So I stood in the lobby for 20 minutes while they remade my order. Meanwhile, the customer who took my food called in to the restaurant and I watched as the cashier made great apology to them and took their address to send someone out to them with the forgotten order. After the cashier got off the phone, he ran off to the back of the restaurant to get someone to take the food to the address. Upon returning to the front I was further ignored and still had not received an apology. It was obvious to the staff that I was unhappy, yet they did nothing to try and make the inconvenience up to me. Just an apology would have been enough. They could have offered me a cup of tea and given me a table to wait at instead of standing at the door for 20 minutes. By the time they finally had my food in hand they gave it to me and then stared at me strangely for still standing there. Then the cashier blurted out "Oh do you need to pay?" I should have said Nope and just left but I'm not that type of person. I paid for my food and then since I couldn't let it go any longer because I still had yet to receive any sort of apology from the restaurant for allowing another customer to take my order, snubbing me and making me wait. So I let them know exactly how I felt about it and indeed I'm sure the entire restaurant heard. 3 of the staff members stood there while the cashier feebly tried to use that he was new as an excuse. I understand being new, but there were 2 long time employees next to him who never offered up a word or tried to help him out or take over. Where was the manager when I raised my voice? No one came over to take control of the situation and make a long time customer happy. NO one. This is unacceptable and they have just lost a valuable customer. Even after leaving, the manager or owner who must have heard about the situation at some point never called my number to offer an apology or try to get me back. If they can't be bothered to keep customers with good service then I don't see why I should be bothered to give them my money. Of course upon returning home with my order I discovered that since the sushi chef was rushed to remake it the rolls were a mess, the eel was full of bones and the sides of my salmon nigiri looked as if they had been chopped up by a blender. Save your money people and go to Wasabi on the other side of town. read more

This place sports the best sushi I've ever had, by far. Plenty of different choices within the menu and some great deals too when you buy more than one plate. Good for dining in or take-out. Service is fast either way. You can also watch the chefs prepare the dishes at a stand in the middle of the restaurant. This recently opened restaurant (August or September) has a restful, welcoming decor that is suitable for a date, dinner out with your friends, or just a bite to eat with family. The server was efficient and attentive, approaching our table often to ask if we needed anything. My daughter ordered the Gyoza and Eel and Avocado Rolls, Salmon Rolls, and Salmon Sushi. She requested additional sliced ginger, which they speedily brought to the table. I expected a second quantity equal to the small pile on her plate, but they heaped a saucer with an amazingly generous amount of ginger for her. Gyoza - pronounced gee-yo-zah - was an unexpected delight. These dumplings were steamed to perfection, then briefly pan-fried on one side, adding a crispy texture and contrast. There was a delicious flavor in these dumplings that I cannot quite identify, but it was sublime. I ordered the Pad Chicken Cashew Nuts, which arrived steaming hot and beautifully presented with a carrot rose for garnish. My daughter kept casting covetous eyes on the dish, and remarked that it smelled really good. It is described on the menu as Chicken sauteed with pepper, celery, scallion, onion & toasted cashew nut. In addition to all of the above, it also contained sweet-crisp sugar peas, cooked to the perfect stage of green and tender, yet still crisp, zucchini, and (unfortunately) mushrooms. Now many people might like mushrooms, and I can take them or leave them, but since I've discovered a mushroom allergy, I try to avoid them whenever possible. If I had known they were in the dish I would have requested it without. But the menu omission made that an impossibility. I do appreciate that they added vegetables to the Pad Chicken, and were trying to serve up fresh ingredients, but then it's the server's job to inform the customer that additional items may be included without being reflected on the menu. I debated deducting a star for this, but everything else was so wonderful that I couldn't do it. Be aware that they have a $15 minimum for credit cards, and they do not offer delivery. They do offer lunch specials, and I intend to return to try the Hibachi or one of the Lunch Box specials. read more

I'm never going back. The quality of the sushi has lowered and we went there for the lunch special and were totally disgusted. My wife and I looked at the shrimp tempura that we were each served and noticed that they had not been deveined. YUCK! The sushi is decent but isn't as fresh as it used to be and the unclean shrimp ensures that we won't be going back. They really need to get fresher ingredients and step up their quality control. This past weekend we decided to have my fiances 30th birthday there and could not have had a better time! The service was amazing!!
