Overrated and overpriced food. (My husband and I previously worked in the restaurant business for many years and were very surprised, considering the Yelp reviews and overall decor of the place.)The calamari was much smaller in portion size and presentation was much simpler than what was pictured on the website. I have had sea bass many times and it was the worst quality of fish I have ever experienced. We postulated that chef may have tried to save money in buying a cheaper cut of fish, but it was also quite fishy. Consequently, the seasoning was too strong and unpalatable. Even so, our waiter was attentive, the food runners were efficient, and the decor and ambiance were pleasant. Overall, very good service, despite the rough-around-the-edges hostess/manager. Granted this was a Tuesday night, but I would likely not venture back, even on their best night. read more

I'm sitting at the bar wondering why it is that Michy's hasn't changed their standard menu in three years and I look forward to it weekly.., whereas other restaurants that haven't changed their menu in just one year totally gets on my nerves. Everything is to die for! The Firecracker shrimp was amazing. Came out like a tower- took a pic for the review AFTER we both dug in and it still looks huge. Service is amazing. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Decor is impeccable; it has the relaxed, beach feeling that you crave while looking for an intimate place. Have been meaning to update for quite a while. The last time we were at Michy's was in late 2019, and it is unlikely we will ever return. We have met the chef, and he is not a pleasant fellow. We used to go frequently, probably once a month. Standard order was two cocktails, an appetizer or salad, two glasses of wine, and a split entree. Usually followed by desert and an after dinner drink or coffee. Total check was always $100-120, before our standard 20% tip. On our last visit, they charged $5 for splitting an entree. It would not have rankled if the nasty chef had actually split it in the kitchen. But no, they wouldn't do that. The waitress told us, and I quote: "We don't allow split plates because it lowers the check amount for the table". Ok. How's this? Add the $5, but cancel the two glasses of wine with dinner, and we will scoot out of here before dessert. And your tip just dropped to 15% because you have been pretty darn rude this entire encounter. We ate our $39 plate of fish and vegetables, and haven't been back. The used to have excellent servers, but I can imagine that the good ones realized they didn't have to work for a tyrant. The specials are generally excellent. The regular menu is uninspired and poorly executed, as if the chef doesn't consider them worth his effort. There are so many excellent restaurants in Rehoboth and Lewes. Shorebreak Lodge, Raas, Fable... don't waste your time and money here. read more

My friend doesn't like vegetables much but liked the veggies with the rockfish so much she ate them the next night for her dinner! I didn't know if I liked risotto but theirs was delicious! Went for happy hour to support a different place. Not acknowledged by bartenders at all (we were 3 gay guys not flaming mind you). Group of 4 ladies come in after us & both bartenders stop what they were doing and offer them a genuine welcome and run down of specials. Not sure what that was about. Space is nice. I hoped I would like this new restaurant. I didn't. We shared the lettuce wedge, crab cake and scallops. The lettuce wedge was ok but very small. Ok. Not so bad. The crab cake was finely shredded crab, no texture and really mushy ( is flaccid a word!). The scallops looked awesome but had a formaldehyde taste. I am not really price conscious , but at $9.33 per scallop, they should have been as good as any I've ever had. We may try again some day but with so many great restaurants in Lewes and Rehoboth, why bother. read more

I had dubious expectations for this place, based on the divergent yelp reviews and the lack of a real menu listed on the website. When we arrived to the place, unassumingly nestled into a strip mall, I did't really expect much. Thankfully, I was blown away. Once you step inside, you completely forget that you're one door away from the food lion. The bright blue walls are perfect for a beach town, and the open-concept kitchen, fun modern artwork, and mismatched chairs feel upscale without being pretentious. It really is "relaxed" - despite being 5-star food, you don't feel out of place in jeans or even shorts (which is completely appropriate for the shore). The food is impressive, with thoughtful combinations in the entrees. Everything sounded delicious, but I went with the grouper and was pleased - the seasoning was perfect, and the jasmine rice and mango sauce was yummy. Appetizers, including the calamari, firecracker shrimp, and clams, were all delicious as well. Almost everyone in our party ordered something different, and everyone was pretty pleased with their food. The one odd thing about this place was the service. Despite a chef's counter that featured fresh-mixed oil and vinegar paired with bread, our waitress never brought us any, later claiming she thought we had enough food (umm, excuse me? Let the DINER make that decision). My water glass was also removed from the table well before dinner was finished, leaving me to grab my boyfriend's instead. Definitely worth a trip for good food - just make sure you don't get cheated out of anything! read more

Stopped in here with three others (two of whom are regulars.) It was my first time. As others have said, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but looks are deceiving. We had the firecracker shrimp and the fried calamari for appetizers, and both were very good. I followed that up with the filet mingon, which was by far the most tender and flavorful filet I have ever had, and it was cooked exactly to my request (medium). The creme brulee afterwards was likewise very good, with no complaints. The service was top notch, and the staff was friendly, courteous, and they knew their food. The only minor ding I would have is the emphasis on turning over the tables. We felt like we were a little bit rushed, but only a little bit. No major issue. Super choice for dinner. We came in on a Saturday night and the place was hopping -- a very good sign. So we sat in the comfy bar, and never left. Agree with other reviewers that the firecracker shrimp appetizer is a sure bet: tangy with crisp romaine salad underneath. Our entrees were both superb. I loved the sea bass with tapenade (capers were a real plus) and my date loved the shrimp and grits. We decided to stay for dessert, and the bartender (very personable and lively) talked us into the whiskey- flavored bread pudding made with croissants (yep, that's right, croissants). Why hasn't anyone else thought of that? End to end a great choice for dinner. Wonderful tasty food creatively prepared, friendly and helpful service in a lovely ambiance. What more do you need? The real test of a restaurant is a crowded Saturday night. If the service is good and the food delicious, you know it's a winner. I had the scallops over risotto - beautifully plated, served hot, and perfectly cooked. Susan had the beet salad ( great portion and delicious dressing ) and salmon. She said it was excellent. We also had crab cakes, chicken, and shrimp and grits. The table reported everything A-OK. It's a relaxed, informal yet upscale place. A bit pricey, but good sized portions and food worthy of respect. The service is just fine. There's room between tables and we could actually hear the music. We will be coming back. read more

We must have gone to the wrong place! We were excited to try this restaurant since we had heard and read good things about it. We started with the soup which was "to die for." We just knew we were in for a great meal. Not to be. I had the horseradish encrusted salmon that was mushy with dabs of horseradish here and there, not spread evenly over the fish and that changed the taste each bite. The fish was terrible. My wife got the crab cakes that had a fishy taste and were not good at all. The server was fine, but that certainly can't make up for the truly bad food we were served. However the ambiance, extraordinarily uncomfortable seating, tightness proximity to other guests absolutely did not justify possibly some of the highest prices in Rehoboth Beach. There are quite a few things I can tolerate at a restaurant; slow service, wrong order, long wait to get in among them. One thing I can not tolerate is being treated rudely by the owner. Unfortunately this owner is one of the rudest "professionals" in the food scene in Rehoboth. Upon entering the restaurant even though she was at the host/hostess desk we were not greated by her. Instead a waitress nearby came up to us. We were then told by the owner we would have to go to the bar because she had reservations coming. Usually not a problem but the restaurant was empty so I thought it was strange. After going to the bar it was brought to our attention we could have a table if we were finished within an hour and a half. We agreed. The menu is the most confusing document I have ever seen. It is not broken down into apps, entrees, sides. Everything is just in a list. The meal was descent. I had the tomato mozzarella stack. The tomatoes were fresh and the cheese was fine. For dinner I ordered the beef burger. It was mediocre. I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure the party came out of the freezer. After spending a considerable amount of money at the restaurant the owner came up to us after exactly 1 and a half hours and asked us to leave because she had reservations coming in. While the restaurant was getting busy it still was not full and there were openings at other tables our size. In addition there was no one waiting near the hostess stand so I don't know where she was hiding these reservations but she insisted we leave any way. Now when I have dropped over 80 bucks on just an ok meal and you treat me like this there is no possibility I will be back. And I'm warning all of you not to go either. read more

Great restaurant located in a strip mall at the beach. The firecracker shrimp is delicious. The fried calamari is the best I've tasted. The service is outstanding. The food is top notch. We arrive at 4 when they open and it was empty. People started coming in and if they didn't have reservations they were referred to the bar area that has happy hour from 4 to 6. The bar area also has a special price menu and the full menu. My waitress was very attentive along with the other staff. The food came out quick, delicious and hot. My son and daughter attend dinner with me and they raved about the food. I can't wait to come back but i will make reservations. read more

We tried Michy's for a late lunch or early dinner around 430pm. We had tried a few months earlier, but at 630pm, it was totally packed. So, if you plan to go, we recommend a reservation. We started with the calamari which was tasty, but just a tad too much dressing. Also, it was a bit lukewarm. Regardless, we enjoyed it as it was tasty and we were able to dig in right away. The Forever Braised Short Rib was a very hearty meal, and too heavy for my wife. It was very tasty, but bring a big appetite for this dish. The salmon dish was very good, with the salmon cooked to my requested medium-rare - a typically difficult challenge for restaurants. The rice and the miso wine sauce was great. The bok choy was a bit too tough though. All in all the food was fine and just what we needed. Our waitress, Kristan, was very attentive and efficient. The overall feel of the restaurant was very family-like which was very nice. We plan to be back and to talk up the restaurant with friends and family. I would love to have had the opportunity to rate the food, but couldn't get past the front door. My bad for not making a reservation (so many restaurants here do not take reservations, I just made a bad assumption). When we arrived, before 7, w/o reservation, the hostess told us there were no tables, checked the bar which also had no seats, handed us a card and said "Next time, call us for a reservation". At least she smiled when she dismissed us (just 2 of us, on my birthday). No option to wait was offered and we were well before closing time. I have never received this kind of treatment in any restaurant in my life. I doubt there will be a next time. read more

Wow! What a meal! My tummy is smiling. This place is a total hit, from the unique drinks to the friendly service to the awesome food. We had a Cherimoya martini from Robert the stellar barkeep. So unusual and delicious. The calamari appetizer is outstanding - not chewy or over breaded but crispy outside and tender inside and a spicy sweet sauce. The beef tenderloin was heaven, cooked just right and the side veggies were not just an afterthought but had snap and crunch. My partner had Mahi Mahi with a lobster sauce that was amazing. Last year while in Rehoboth for our annual BFF outlet shopping trip, the salesperson in Clark's shoes told us about Michy's. He said that the food was delicious. We got there very late and the kitchen was closed but we were offered cold food, like salads. I chose the beet salad and my friend had the caprese salad. Both were yummy. This year we decided to go early enough to actually get a hot meal. We arrived at 6:30 pm and there was an hour wait already. We were offered to check the bar area and found two empty seats. I ordered the pasta bolognese and my friend had the chicken milanese. Both of them were very tasty. The food was fresh and abundant. So happy that we went again. The size of the restaurant is the only reason I didn't give all five stars. read more
