We have passed this restaurant so many times with the realization that there was this little humble restaurant in a huge plaza, but never quite remembered to go back to try it. Today was the day, as I was craving sushi and remembered it, so in we went. Zero regrets! Ambiance/Service (3/5): We went around 1 PM on a Saturday and it was surprisingly dead in there; we were the only ones who dined in and there was only one customer picking up an order the entire time we were there. However, it didn't feel awkward. There was a TV playing on medium volume and the older Korean owners were really nice and made us feel welcomed. They gave us two bowls of complimentary miso soup (which our toddlers loved). Food came out relatively quickly. It definitely has mom n' pop vibes which I love. Decor was minimal but clean and the restaurant was well maintained. I think the place would make a nice casual dinner date. Food/Value (4/5):

...We ordered the udon with 4-piece spicy tuna roll combo, the mixed tempura appetizer, a baked salmon roll and a California Roll. The total came out to $51.25. Prices are super fair for what you get, especially if you're craving...

special rolls or want a little of everything (they have so many combos). I'll review our food specifically below: -Udon & spicy tuna combo (3/5): Udon came in a pretty big bowl with udon, fish cake, green onions, and tempura flakes. Udon was nice and chewy, but the soup itself felt like it could use more depth. My husband wasn't a huge fan of the spicy tuna roll; he noted that the flavor wasn't the best, texture was bit different and the roll itself was loosely packed. He said he'd skip the spicy tuna next time. -Mixed Tempura (5/5): This was delicious. It came crispy and hot, with ten pieces total--2 each of pumpkin, potato, zucchini, carrot, and shrimp. The kids loved it and the sauce complimented it well. -Baked salmon roll (4/5): This was tasty, but it left something to be desired. I guess I'm used to heavier baked rolls with more creamy sauce reminiscent of a rice casserole made into a roll. Their rendition is essentially salmon placed on top of a CA roll with a drizzle of some sort of sweet soy sauce, but it was tasty nonetheless. -California roll (5/5): Awesome price and awesome taste. Loved every bite. I would come again just to order multiple of these. They don't skimp on the filling. Overall, I would give this place a 4 because it was a great lunch experience. We live relatively close, so this might be my go-to sushi craving place in the future. Would definitely come again and support this little mom n' pop shop!

I came here to check out their breakfast and let me tell you I was impressed. They had this toast with avocado, onions and tomatoes 10 out of 10 I even tried their breakfast udon and the broth was so delicious. I even got into their onigiri and I tried their California their crunch the tuna and the salmon, and they were all so flavorful. But their yogurt Matcha was my favorite as well as their torch spam musubi so so good definitely you're gonna wanna come check out for their breakfast. It is such a cute little mom and pop shop. It's like a hidden gem very friendly very clean. I'm definitely coming here to have breakfast and their actual lunch and dinner. Oh and if you love chicken, Katsu, you wanna get their breakfast dish one too it's so good.

Calamari Tempura was so hard and had no flavor. Edamame had no salt and was not fresh.

Our first time here. Service was good! Man was sweet but unfortunately we won't be back. The calamari was unseasoned and couldn't even bite into it. We got sushi which was just mediocre. There were 4 of us and it was $110.

Sushi heaven alert! My mother-in-law's fave spot (and now mine too!) is a hidden gem in La Mirada. Owner Jack's the king of hospitality, and his fish portions? Generous, to say the least! Pink Lady roll, Crunch, Caterpillar, and spicy tuna - I'm a fan of them all! Even my fam agrees it's one of the best. Support local, get amazing sushi. Win-win!

They are now serving breakfast! I got the torched spam musubi and the salmon plate. Everything was delicious!! Much needed for my morning. The owners are great people and provided excellent service. Small little place and the old man there was so cute and ready to serve! Absolutely delicious and honestly fresh! I've gone to a lot of places like this but nothing even meets Midori 5. The tuna was sooo pink!! So good! Update: the Udon is so good too!! Also, I got the Hawaiian Roll but instead of California roll inside I did shrimp tempura and spicy tuna, calling it "The BIG K" roll.

So glad we tried this place. Our go to sushi spot is closed on Sundays so we wanted to see what else to try. Volcano roll soooooo good! Definitely coming back for more. All the rolls we got I would get again (Tiger, crunchy scallop toll, tempura roll, crunch jalapeño roll). Loved that everything was fresh, yummy, and roll sizes were plentiful. read more

A tad better than small town Americanized Japanese restaurant you'll find far from the big city. While the food isn't authentic in the truest sense, it makes for a decent meal. The place is clean, service decent, selection varied enough. Not thrilling, but gets the job done. No hesitation on the to-go menu, after a long day in the office. This was terrible and over priced. Got the salmon bowl and Chinese chicken salad. Both lacked protein. They put in a disproportionately large amount of rice. Salad is not something to order again. Pretty disappointing! read more

It's been a few years since we visited Midori, and decided we would give them another try. It was lunch time and the restaurant was at least half full, so our expectations were raised at this sight... after all, a very busy and full restaurant must be superb. After taking our order, the very polite lady brought us two bowls of miso soup, which was a nice gesture. We ordered the teriyaki chicken and tempura bento and the spicy tuna bowl. We did not have to wait very long before our order arrived. It is at this time that our expectations were dashed. The spicy tuna bowl was sadly disappointing. The taste was fine, but it was almost pureed tuna in a very thin layer over ¾ of the bowl of rice with a bit of cabbage in between, and poorly peeled avocado slices, please look at my pics for a better feel. Again, it did not taste bad and was fresh, but it appeared to be poorly plated at the very least, and meager on the fish. The bento was another story. First the food was sparsely presented in the box... as if there wasn't enough food to put on it... a bit sad looking... see pics for yourself. The chicken was bland and not very tasty, it tasted boiled rather than grilled as it is the case with most teriyaki dishes we've had. The tempura coating was too thick and dough-y, not light and flaky. Finally the California rolls were poorly made as they fell apart immediately upon picking a roll up with chopsticks, and the flavor was meh. In fact, it seems that they forgot to make the proper sushi rice, as it tasted like plain old rice with zero seasoning. We will definitely not come back to Midori, after a sadly disappointing experience. In the same shopping center, Tokyo Town Sushi prepares far superior Japanese cuisine for about the same price, and it has become one of our top choices in La Mirada. The Midori folks are super nice, but the food quality is just not there... it appears to lack passion based on how it was prepared; almost like dining at a mall eatery... too bad; we had high hopes. read more

WOW! This place has some really good food. I got the short ribs and it was flat out amazing. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. It also came with this white salad with white dressing and rice. I was a little skeptical about the salad at first but once I tried it I liked it even more than the short ribs The food was so good I even got yakisoba to go and that too was tasty. The atmosphere is like a Togo style feeling but you can still sit down and eat and they will serve you. Would definitely recommend this place ! read more

I've been in here three times already so that's enough to say every time I've come in I've been greeted nicely and have been served delicious food! The man who works the front is always attentive and always kind. I got the chicken teriyaki bento here. I'm a person that puts hot sauce on everything and if I forget to put hot sauce on the chicken teriyaki then you know it's good! Also the jalapeño poppers are a must try Excellent! My husband and I have been here numerous times and they never disappoint. Everything we have ever gotten has always been fresh and full of flavor. My Favorites: Calamari Tempura Roll - You get about 4 huge calamari rings on the side along with the roll... YUMMM Spicy Baked Salmon Roll - I LOVE spicy food and while this isn't particularly spicy, it does have a DELICIOUS flavor. California Roll - A Classic. Soooo good and super fresh. My Husbands Favorites - Baked Lobster Roll, Baked Salmon Roll, and Rainbow Roll - all very very good and fresh. I highly recommend this place for fresh, full of flavor, sushi! On a side note: I've also tried their chicken teriyaki bowl and just like everything else, it is full of flavor and fresh. Appetizers are all delicious as well. read more

She seemed friendly at first, but unfortunately our experience quickly went downhill. My husband ordered a ramen dish that never arrived. We waited quite a while, assuming it would be brought out, but no one ever checked in on our table. This seems to match other reviews mentioning a lack of staff awareness and attention to customers. The staff appeared to only come by to take orders and drop off checks. We were even seated near the register, yet no one noticed that an entire meal was missing. When it was time to pay, another employee helped us. We had to point out that the ramen never came and ask for it to be removed from the bill. His response was simply, "Sorry about that, let me take it off. Here's your total." There was no real sense of concern, apology, or effort to make the situation right. Mistakes happen, but the lack of communication and customer service is what made this experience so disappointing. Staff could benefit from additional customer service training and more awareness of their guests' needs. Unfortunately, after this experience, we will not be returning and would not recommend this restaurant to others.

The citrus-sweet marinade on the salmon was perfectly balanced--light, refreshing, and bursting with flavor, making each bite melt in your mouth. Easily one of the best preparations of salmon I've had in a while! The spam musubi was hands down the best I've ever had--perfectly seasoned, with a satisfying texture and just the right touch of char. The staff was exceptionally kind and hospitable, making the experience even better. As a family-owned restaurant, Midori 5 exudes a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, making you feel like you're part of the family while enjoying a home-cooked meal.
