For a place thats practically in the middle of the nowhere, the food they prepared is decent. Especially since they're kinda of in a desert... and they're supposed to serve fish. I've only stopped here once or twice on the way to Vegas. I've gotten their Una-don and their New York roll. The Una-don bowl was a relatively good size for the price and the eel was flavorful and tasty. I ordered the New York roll because it had apples in it and i've never had apples in sushi. It was interesting... but it wasnt good. i only ate 2-3 pieces. My friend got their bento box and our chef was able to substitute sashimi instead of cali rolls for $1 extra. The service wasnt too bad. Waitress was accomodating and nice. Chef was patient with our orders and questions. Everything was quiet and clean. I would probably come here again if i wasnt on a busy time-schedule and if i decide to drive to Vegas again. read more

My husband and I have been to Midori Sushi twice now. Both times have been absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is nice and quaint and super clean both times we have been there. The owners are super nice and friendly. We got the tempura vegetables and shrimp both times and it was fresh and yummy. We've tried their teriyaki chicken and beef bowls which are very filling and tasty. My husband gets the rainbow roll and describes it as good and fresh. This is definitely a must try if you're in Tehachapi!!! We will definitely always eat here when we're in town. If I could give a negative review I would. This is not the first time that the owner has been rude and not given what we have ordered but thinks that he knows what we want. I swore I would NEVER go here again, but trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but I guess it was a lie. The first time we ordered the owner thinks my son doesn't like "spicy" if that's what we ordered that is what we get.... Then I ask for soy and gives our sushi on seaweed... then for tonight's s*** - we got sat after waiting for 20 min when only 3 tables were occupied to be sitting for another 20 minutes without getting water. So we asked for water and the owner comes out and yells at us and says they are busy and we need to calm down. "Excuse me!?" All we asked for after sitting and waiting for so long was for water, then to be also told the kitchen is closed!!! It would not have been closed if you took our order when we got there and sat down. I mean we already were there for 40 minutes total. So like I said in the beginning if I could leave a negative review i definitely would, and will NEVER GO BACK... what kind of owner are you and you should never run a business! read more

This place is amazing! Sushi Chef James is very personable AND a great chef! All we can say is that Mindoro Sushi is the place place Tehachapi! The wife and I came here, first time on a Friday night. Very busy with to go orders. We choose to dine in on the patio. Very good choice. Second time on a Tuesday night. Again we sat on the patio. No other customers in house. Doesn't look like much from the outside but it's a different story once within. Very friendly service. Very good food. However, the reviews about wait times were unfortunately true. The first couple plates came out quickly. Not sure why the last didn't. I heard and saw the people next to us getting impatient about their order. Once our final roll came it was literally the best sushi I've had in years. Overall, the service was friendly but I think they have a small staff. Took a bit longer than I would have liked. I'm torn. Pros: - The sushi here is good. - There are a lot of menu options. - Ambience is very nice (compared to most Tehachapi restaurants). Cons: - They take *forever* to make the sushi. (This is true whether eating there or taking it to-go.) - Their waiters are inattentive and borderline rude. I've ordered to-go twice, and was very happy with the sushi. So I was excited to go eat there with a friend. We were of the first people seated when they opened for lunch. We ordered our drinks and a couple rolls, commenting to our waiter that we'd like to order more rolls once we looked over the menu a bit more. We sat there *forever*, with nothing. It felt like an hour, but may have been only 45 minutes, and they finally brought our drinks. Everyone else (who had arrived after us) received their orders, and we were still waiting for our 2 measly rolls (and the hope of order 2 more rolls). Finally our rolls arrived, with no comment from the waiter. We didn't even bother to order the other rolls because 1) we'd already been there SO long, 2) we were turned off by the lack of service, and 3) who knows how much longer we would have had to wait to get those. I love the items on the menu. Not only do they serve Sushi-Japanese food, they also have some Korean mixed in there too (bi bim bop, bulgogi). They also have Ramen!...love Ramen. I like the setup. It's pretty open and spacious. Very clean and nicely decorated. You can see the sushi chef and watch him make sushi while you wait. I tried the bi bim bop for the first time here. There is no meat, it's rice with vegetables and you can add the hot sauce if you desire. It was pretty good. Wish it had a lot more veggies in it. Husband and I were craving something different in town and ended up here. The Korean/Japanese twist on traditional sushi style restaurant food was tasty, well prepared and serving size to fill you up. I had a Rainbow Roll - fish was fresh and portions large. My husband had the Bulgogi meal - wow! The Bulgogi was wonderful, tempura done to perfection and California roll good. I will order this for myself next time. OK when I saw there was a sushi place in the middle of The city I had serious doubts. How can there be good sushi in the middle of inland California nowhere near an ocean. In addition the make up of the community is it one bit on first floor you would think would enjoy sushi. Boy how first impression can be so wrong. I was there on a work trip and a few colleagues and myself stopped in for dinner. We tried a number of different roles as well as specialty rolls and I am happy to report we were pleasantly surprised at the quality as well as the taste. The service was also excellent. While we didn't sit at the bar and sat at a table we had excellent guest service. Our drinks were always kept filled and the server continually check back. If you ever find yourself in the middle of Tehachapi and what a great sushi dinner this is the place to give a try. You won't be disappointed. For a party of three of us the total bill came right to $100. We left feeling completely full and ordered a wide variety of specialty rolls. Amazing! Fresh fish and great service. My husband and I are new in town. We were skeptical at first but pleasantly surprised.

The menu had so many different things, I wanted to order one of each! Bulgogi, ramen, udon, sushi.... I decided to go with a bowl of ramen because it was pretty cold outside. The three ramen dishes didn't have photos or descriptions so I asked the waitress. The descriptions were pretty vague but as soon as she pointed to one and said spicy, I agreed to it. But when it came out, I instantly found out it was a curry ramen. Not even close to spicy. I feel like curry is a very distinct difference than the typical spicy ramen. Plus they weren't ramen noodles, more like pasta you buy at the grocery store. Our food did arrive quickly. The popcorn chicken and my boyfriend's Tehachapi roll were both really good. I think I just happened to be unlucky with what I ordered, but I wish I could give them more stars. read more

Sushi in Tehachapi... well even in the dessert you need sushi, right? And this actually isn't bad. They don't have a website (that's like an epidemic in Tehachapi... it must be like the least plugged place in all of California), so I can't look up the menu to tell you what we ordered. But we liked our selection of veggie sushi and California and shrimp rolls. They were not the best I've had by far but honestly, it was probably the best meal I had in this little town. One odd thing... one of my shrimp rolls (a shrimp tempura roll possibly?) had a layer of lettuce leaves. That is a sushi first for me. A special local touch perhaps?? Regardless, if you find yourself in Tehachapi and are craving sushi or just pretty good food, this is a solid choice. Well, fellow Yelpers, my sincerest apologies for doubting you and thinking I was smarter because I got burned. Yup, Midori's service really sucks. You were right; I was definitely wrong. I ordered two rolls to go, was told by the server it would be 15 minutes. I run back to the hotel to unload my stuff and came back expecting it to be ready or a few minutes late (they were a bit busy...). Now it's a bit shy of 30 minutes later and I was told they were out of sushi rice and of course, no one told me until I asked about the progress of my food. Argh!!! Burned!! At this point I don't care about the taste. This could be the best freakin sushi in the planet and the chef could have just returned from catching it in the ocean himself and I would still never visit this place again. Take my advice and also the guidance from the other Yelpers, do not eat here. It's a waste of your time. So sad... :( read more

Cute place with lots of seating. The sushi chef was singing along to Led Zeppelin which was awesome. I ordered the Alaska roll and an eel roll with a side of eel sauce. The rolls were good; thick rice but substantial filling. The eel roll had very little eel but was good. Overall good sushi but nothing to make me crave it. When I got the bill I noticed they charged me $1 for my side of eel sauce which has never happened to me at any other sushi restaurant. I found that to be petty but paid it. I didn't really get to enjoy my food and I live 25 minutes away from this establishment so taking my food back wasn't an option. Went here for lunch. Immediately was seated. I like to visit places that have long, exaggerated bad reviews. Any review that says they'll never go again, usually is bogus. My experience was great! I have pretty simple expectations. 1) Is the staff friendly and do they try to offer good service. 2) Is the food edible. I don't expect it to be the best of my life unless that's what they advertise. Here, the food was good. 3) Are the prices fair? Here they were. I find that most bad reviews are the cause of unreasonably high expectations. I never go in with high expectations. I usually like to just experience what the establishment offers. Here... I walked in before 8:30 pm. Long day of traveling and was hoping for some good food and relaxation since I was staying at the hotel in the same parking lot. I was told they were closed even though they were taking a couples order who was just seated. I was by myself and would have spent at least $50 on food, drinks...and I usually tip extremely well for good service. I went to Burger Spot instead. We started off with Edamame and the popcorn chicken. Both small portions for the prices we paid. My BF got his teriyaki bowl 30 mins before our sushi was up. The worst part is the customer service. They are not friendly. They don't smile. They rushed me multiple times to order when it was only 5:40 they didn't close till 8. Once I told the head server we weren't ready she got attitude and walked away.
