This sushi place seriously has the freshest salmon in town! I rate a sushi restaurant on wether or not I love the nigiri (just fish on rice) and I absolutely love their nigiri. Good food, large menu and friendly service are found here. It may be easy to assume that finding good Sushi in a rural community is hard but not true for Midori. Favorite rolls are Crying Baby and Sensual Pleasure. Usually ask for the freshest nigiri sushi of the day and have yet to be disappointed. Plenty of parking and an easy walk from nearby hotels. All in all a nice choice for dinner. They can close a bit early so check ahead on operating hours. read more

Went to Midori hoping for a meal inside but they were not yet open for that. So decided to order to go. The staff was friendly and helpful. Food took a little longer than I had thought it would, but it was all delicious. I will continue to eat from Midori. read more

Sushi and seafood might not be the first thing you think about when you are in a mountain town like Tehachapi but this small town actually has some great dining options, including Midori. Midori is located in a shopping center adjacent to a few hotels, when you reach Tehachapi it takes less than 5 minutes to get to this restaurant from Highway 58 making it a convenient place to take a lunch or dinner break on the way to your destination. The exterior isn't anything special but the interior of the restaurant was very impressive. The walls are decorated with Japanese portraits and various items which makes eating here so much more comfortable. You have the option of sitting at a booth, table (with chairs), or at the bar so you can watch them make sushi in front of you. The sushi is way better than something you would expect from a mountain town. Tehachapi is still only a few hours away from the ocean and is right on a major trucking route which makes the delivery of ingredients cheaper while maintaining a level of freshness that you wouldn't normally find in many mountain towns. I don't remember exactly which rolls I got because I told the chef to just make me whatever he thought are the best items. (shoutout to Joey the albino sushi chef) But all three rolls I got were amazing and I was enjoying myself too much to take a picture. If I've had better sushi in Bakersfield then I don't remember, Midori is now my go-to when I'm in Tehachapi and I look forward to going back. read more

Very bad customer service and food taste like shit. Everybody ate and I got my plate at the end when everybody was done. Supposedly it was an add on but we ordered everything at once. I would give 0 stars if I could. Some of the rudest most unprofessional wait staff I have ever encountered. They will go out of their way to start an argument with you or insult you if they think you ordered a lot of food. Between my wife and I we ordered four rolls. When we were waiting for the bill the waitress wanted to let us know that everyone who worked there was betting we wouldn't finish our 4 rolls but she knew we were "champs". Good to know the staff watch you eat and pass judgment on you. My family who grew up out here and come up from time to time went there for lunch the other day. My aunt ordered the same thing she always has and the waitress told her they did not have that. My aunt said ok and modified her order, after a few minutes the waitress out of the blue says I have worked here for years and we never have had that. My aunt never said a word yet this waitress went out of her way to argue the fact. When my mother in-law asked what came on the salad because the pictures shows a lot of things the response from the waitress was, none of our food looks like the pictures, the chicken salad has lettuce and chicken. They toke for ever to serve us. We order 2 sushi rolls and adonami (i don't know if i spell that right) but man i think that is something simple that could had been brought outfaster then the rolls. When we would ask for it the waitress, she would say "thats from the kitchen, and she didn't know when it would be out. We were so hungry and there where 2 other table with 2 people in each table. After an hour of waiting for our order we left. We Went to the other sushi please. We ate in about 1/2hr after getting there and it was good. We will never go there again. Usually when Deb and I are in the mood for sushi we would go to Palmdale to our favorite place. We wanted to find a place a bit closer to us so one day we came up here. I'm glad we took the time to find this place. The staff is great and very attentive. The fish is fresh with no funky odor at all. The rice is slightly warm with just the right amount of flavor to it. Usually we start with a spicy tuna roll then move to a signature roll of some kind and end with some nigiri. The spicy tuna has a good flavor with a nice spice to it. The rolls are tightly rolled full of flavor and always pleasing to the eye. All of what we have here has been good and we will continue to come here for good sushi. read more

I never write negative reviews. But... I ordered first. After everyone else at my table got their order they brought me my order made wrong. They brought it to me twice pretty much saying I had to take it the way it was. Then, when I finally did, they took it away because they were going to add the fish it was supposed to have. 20 minutes later and after everyone had eaten their roll I told them I didn't want it anymore. They told me I still had to pay for it. They also made me pay a service fee after they messed up other people's orders in our party as well. Never going back. read more

Honestly I'm extremely impressed with this place. Came here on my way to Vegas from San Francisco and wanted something that was not heavy American or fast food. I initially expected it to be pretty OK Japanese food since this is right in the desert, but I was very wrong! I came here right after they opened and the server came over very quickly and I ordered. The food was brought out kinda quick, maybe 10-15 wait. I ordered a chicken katsu bento box which was a good amount of food! Came with some salad, miso soup, rice and a good portion of chicken katsu with some amazing sauce. All in all, if I do this drive again I would definitely come back! read more

Midori is operated by a Korean family with many delightful dishes. We found the staff to be friendly and anxious to please. The sushi was fresh and nicely presented. We did have to return a beef side dish that had spoiled. Suggest their quality control needs to be review because they are serving raw fish. Our family member that had tasted the dish did not become ill although we did worry about a bad outcome. No one apologized as we had expected. read more

First of all, I never ate there. This review is in regards to the owner and how he treats people. I recently drove a fully loaded 26 foot rental truck on a 1100 mile trip. It broke down at 930 PM going up the pass and had to be towed 16 miles to the hotel next to Midori Sushi and Grill, they share the parking lot. By the time we got to our room it was 2 AM and we had to be ready the next morning for another truck to be brought in and parked back to back to transfer everything into that truck which took 3 hours starting at 930 AM. The 2 trucks were in the parking lot and were close to the entrance to the Sushi and Grill. The owner arrived at 10 AM and was very upset that we "were in his parking lot" and kept walking around with gloves and a mask on complaining about the situation. I guess even with Covid he was expecting a big rush for lunch. We were not blocking his business from the street view and there were around 15 to 20 parking places available. The owner kept coming out and asking how much longer, with his interruptions, it actually made it longer. I noticed the whole time we were there which was just after 12:30 PM he had one car that arrived, a lady and her son. This owner has no compassion for others in their time of stress and mishap. Sucks if you're disabled and bring your service dog. Can't comment on the food because after waiting 50 minutes I still had not been served. Mind you the place was nearly empty, people came and went and they just let me sit there. Very rude behavior from the Asian greeter who asked for proof of service dog ID...against the law. When I lived in Tehachapi, this was one of my favorite spots in town. By far the best sushi around with a large menu, friendly staff and fast service. Nice place to dine in for lunch or dinner, but I generally got my order "to go". I'm a vegetarian and everything I've ordered has been spot on, but my seafood loving SO enjoyed their shrimp sushi and shrimp tempura roll. A must if you find yourself in Tehachapi. read more

I loved this place. Teriyaki salmon had a large piece of salmon. The California roll, sunrise roll, seaweed salad and sunrise roll were very cute. Clean and safe interior. Conveniently located right next to our hotel so I enjoyed a large house hot sake and walked next door. Can't wait to eat here again when I visit next time. read more

Been here 2 times, both times the sushi and rolls tasted great. They have a good variety of flavors and styles and they don't drown everything in mayo (Yuck!). I would definitely come back here. Yes, I do agree with the other reviewers on the slow service, but on both occasions we were out in less than an hour which is typical for any good sushi place.... This isn't fast food. One tip: Don't be afraid to wave down the waitresses for service, it's a cultural thing to leave the guests alone to enjoy their time. . read more

This was actually the best sushi I've ever had. The sashimi was extremely fresh and bursting with flavor. The specialty roll I had (Omega) was a true work of art, expertly rolled with a complex, unique flavors. James, the chef, was not only an expert chef, but was very friendly as well. You could see and taste the pride in his work. Friendly and helpful wait staff and nice atmosphere and very reasonable prices especially considering the high quality. Wow what an amazing find here in the mountains of Tehachapi! I drove passed at lunch time and they were a bit busy so I came back for dinner being new to town and was very glad I did. The sushi chef was great. He seemed to be the only chef and was very quick at getting sushi bar orders as well as table orders out. The rolls were perfect and so tasty. I had a tuna roll and yellowtail sashimi and was also given fresh wasabi that was yummy. The hot tea was quite warming in the cold weather so I was sure to have plenty. First review: Came here 20 days ago and said we wouldn't come back. The two waitresses were overloaded while I noticed 3 others folks (hostess, manager and some serving Sake) who did not help serve dishes that were ready. There was a young sushi chef who was just barking out orders when dishes. It took a while to order and almost an hour and a half before we got our food; then it was one item at a time. My wife's order came out, then my appetizer. 15 mins after she finished her meal my order was served. The food was delicious except the Miso which had too much seaweed. Quite a few customers left because of the wait to receiving their food. Second Review: Decided to give this place a second chance. Sushi chefs were different than the first night we visited and were nicer. The staff conscientiously checked if we had ordered, needed refills. The service was faster, but still noticed a table who cancelled their order and left. The food was very deliciously and the price and portions are really pretty good. Well, the food was typically great, but the service is terrible. Every time we have ever been the service has been super slow. Just tonight we were turned away at the door 35 minutes before closing at 8pm, with the lady meeting us at the door repeating over and over " so sorry last call has already been given". I could see if the restaurant was packed, but there were only a few customers in the dining area. We will not be returning. There are other great options in the Tehachapi area. My experience was lovely. Staying at the Best Western across the parking lot - at 9:15 pm on a Friday night. Serving Staff gave me a booth as requested (even though I was by myself). Food came in proper order - starting just a few minutes after ordering Bowl of Miso soup was flavorful, steaming hot and delicious. Salad with ginger dressing was very fresh, NO little wilty bits of kale or silly veggies that do not belong.. Had mixed veggie and shrimp tempura. Enjoyed all of it I could eat...had some left over...Like my shrimp a bit more cooked...HOWEVER I did not tell the server this when ordering - so that is on me. Staff made a polite "last call" at the sushi bar as I was paying at 9:45 pm. Left a $10 tip for the young lady who served me respectfully even though I am heavily tattooed and look like a demon... When visiting my amigo who is incarcerated at C.C.I. Tehachapi I will visit Midori again. read more
