Mimi's is a fantastic breakfast spot! I have come here and had dinner/dessert, a bit disappointing, but they never mess up on breakfast! I have been coming here since I was young. My mom would sometimes pick me up from school early to eat late lunch. Good memories. And this place is still one of my favorite places to come visit. We love Mimi's, don't get me wrong but a few months ago they changed their menu. I honestly miss the old menu! But if I could ask one thing of them, it would be PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD CHICKEN POT PIE! the new recipe is totally different to me, different crust, different filling (old style was creamy and thick, new style is runny and tastes like gravy) and half the size....oh dear! Today my bestfriend and I stop by mimi cafe for lunch and the first thing that I noticed was the place was totally empty but we still decided to give it a chance. Wrong decision we should of left. I ordered the jambalaya with rice and my friend ordered some breakfast food. The food was bland and the breakfast potatoes was burnt, either of us ate it. The waitress was awesome and she felt bad so she went to her manager to see what she can do because our plates were still full. The manager never came out and it wasn't like she was busy because the place was empty. The waitress offered us some muffins. I told her it wasn't her fault and honestly her service was excellent. Not a huge fan of the chain restaurants so prevalent in the Phoenix area. However, because this Mimi's is so convenient to the Chandler Mall and Nordstrom Rack, Lowes, Ulta etc I don't want to say anything too negative, especially since I am being a "local" snob. We always love coming here for breakfast. The staff are always warm and pleasant and willing to serve. On weekends and holidays it can get pretty busy so arrive early. To start, I don't think Mimi's was prepared for the crowd they got on thanksgiving. We had made a reservation for a 3:00 pm turkey dinner in hopes that there wouldn't be much wait for our party of 4. Little did we know hundreds of others did the same thing and many more walked in placing their names on a list. The little wait we expected turned into a 30-45 minute wait. After we were finally seated, the wait began again. Waitress and after waitress walked past us ignoring our table. No water were brought and not even a "we'll be right with you". So we finally got up and approached the manager after a food runner was kind enough to bring us waters. The manager went around and asked the 2 waitresses working all 4/5 tables surrounding us and none of them took responsibility or seemed to want our table. Little did we know this was a blessing in disguise. Monique was given our table even though it seemed her section was no where near our table. She turned the whole meal around. She was attentive, kind, threw in some jokes and really was a sweetheart. Given that it was thanksgiving, the meal was good for it not being my home cooked meal but it was pretty tasty. Also the serving size was huge which allowed to reach that "over capacity" feeling everyone deserves in turkey day. Mimi's is a good choice if you are looking for a holiday meal. This Mimi's Cafe is terrible! One star for the tangerine mimosa that made me forget about the terrible experience for about 3 minutes. Put our name down for a table for 2 and was told it would be 20 minutes. 30 minutes went by so I decided to check up on the list since I started to notice people who came after us being seated. One of the hostess' (please tell me why there were 4 hosts and none of them knew what they were doing) looked at the list longer than she should have and said "a couple more people.. about 5 more minutes." Waited a little longer and my bf went up to see the status. Turns out our name was never on the list. WTF? Really?? They were lying to us.. all 4 of the hosts were clueless and unorganized. After that we got a table and the service was terrible. Took 10 minutes for my bf to get his coffee and water.. even more to get the waitress' attention to get our check. We came in mid-afternoon on a Sunday when it was very slow for the restaurant. We waited for quite some time at our table with no servers coming to greet us or bring water--to make it clear that we were ready to order, I closed my menu and sat waiting, but no one came. A female server was walking back and forth to the other tables but never acknowledged us, so I had to request for a server to come to get water, at which point we were ready to order. It's 100° outside, and I'm 7 months pregnant. Bringing water and acknowledging your customers should be commonplace in a restaurant, especially during summer months. We had never heard if Mimi's before but stopped into this location and had one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Came back a second time before reviewing because some places are hit or miss. For years this place has been amazing BUT tonight we went for my mothers birthday and immediately we were excited because the menu always had a good combination, tonight we learned that Mimi's has been bought out and they re-did the menu. This new menu sucks has sandwich's and burgers and then there speciality meals no variety. My family and I were very disappointed and left after looking at the menu. They're might be hope for Mimi's when we left the restaurant the manager asked us "hey, why are you guys leaving?" We explained our situation and He explained to us that so many people leave because they don't like the changes that have been made. Mimi's will be changing the menu again this may. I was so excited to come here! When I came in there was a bunch of people in the lobby which showed me this is the good spot to eat. After waiting 5 minutes, with no acknowledgement, the rest of the people were sat. With multiple 4 top tables open she politely asked if I would like to sit at the bar. I replied, "no thank you. I'll wait for a table".She said,"fine." When I asked her how long the wait was considering it was for for top tables open she told me 10 to 15 minutes. On Thursday Dec 13th, my friends and I had lunch at Mimi's Cafe. I ordered the French Pot Roast which is usually terrific. This time the gravy seemed very over salted, and the order looked somewhat smaller. OK, so I ordered the Coq Au Vin to take home: it looked so yummy on the menu. I get home and open my take out order and what do I see? About 2 cups of green beans and piece of white fish. I called the manager and he said he will send me a $20.00 voucher. We chose to come to Mimis this morning because we figured it would have a shorter wait time (Sunday morning) than Hash Kitchen or Snooze (some of our favorites). We had been before and know the food here is just fine. Nothing spectacular but a decent breakfast. Today we were very disappointed and honestly, quite irritated. After a short wait, we were taken to room full of empty booths and tables except one rather large table of loud men drinking mimosas. Now, typically we wound the mind being seated next to folks enjoying themselves and drinking it up on Sunday morning, however this time, we had our six month old baby who had just fallen asleep. Yay! That means mom gets to eat with two hands, right? Haha. Well the hostess sat us literally right next to the loud party. Thoughtful, right? When we asked if we could sit at a different booth so as to keep our baby calm and sleeping we were told (by the manager) that they were about to get packed and it just wouldn't be possible. Now, we are reasonable people and would understand if the tables had been reserved and there actually want a different booth we could sit at... but there were several. Like I said, the whole room was empty besides us and one other loud table. Now this is when protocol trumps intelligence and the drive to serve your customers. We moved anyway. I know, we're rebels. Back in the late 1990's one of my Favorite Waitresses was Carmen who knew my family from my young Son then and throughout my visits until leaving the reigns to Ms. Eddie. As you can see it's more than a dining experience, the home feel makes it a destination when I visit Chandler AZ. There's an affinity to Moms home cooked food and Mimi's Cafe in my DNA. We were a large party, 8 adults and very small children. It was a fantastic experience. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Then the manager came and spoke to us and let us know we were always welcome to have our mom group there, he'd always accommodate us, and spoke about how important community is and how he appreciated the person who put it all together for supporting community. Disappointment x 3 within last year. Twice at Mimis Chandler and once at Tatum Rd Phoenix. 1. Got email about free birthday muffin. Went with friend and wanted to give her my muffin while I ate a full breakfast. Waitress needed to consult manager who refused my request. So I asked her to give it to me, which she did. iI then handed it to my friend. 2. Lunch with friends - ordered Quiche Lorraine, which came highly spiced and full of jalepenos. Not as menu described. 3. Thanksgiving- no reservation but called to inquire if room- was assurred there was. Arrived promptly at 11:00 when they started their Thanksgiving dinner. Door hostess assigned tables to those with reservations so waited but then she referred me to another hostess busy on computer who told me I would have to wait. After 10 minutes I sat down at nearest empty table where a kind waitress brought me a menu and served me. There were only 3 tables taken in the front section of about 25 tables. I called on Thursday to make a reservation for 15 on Sunday morning. The gentleman on the phone was very pleasant and accommodating. We arrived to find that we had no reservation. When asked to recheck, the hostess said he put it on the wrong day. Ok. Mistakes happen. They worked us in quite promptly which we appreciated, but we had two separate tables. At least they were close to each other. We waited quite awhile for service. Order taking, beverage delivery, all seemed pretty slow. Our server really didn't have much of a service attitude. She wasn't rude,but certainly not pleasant. The food was very good. Everyone got exactly what they wanted. Beverage refills were okay. She never asked about desserts (we had a birthday), did not bothered to pull a single empty plate from the tables. Again, not awful, but far from 5 stars. I got a gift card to this place and was excited to learn its menu is like-Home goodness and comfort food options. Although we didn't dine in, the ambience was very welcoming, homey and the staff were very friendly. However, there were 2 meals I ordered that was quite disappointing: meat loaf and pot roast. Both were dry and the taste was marginal, at best. I'm sure they have other great tasting options because there were customers clearly enjoying their meals, but mines were pedestrian. I had been passing by this place for some time and thought I might try it. I went and there was not many cars in the parking lot and I even found a place in the door to park. I went in and they did not seem that busy. The wait staff was mostly standing around. There were numerous empty tables and what tables that had customers only had 1 or two people. That is why I was surprised when the host said there would be a 10-15 minute wait. I though maybe he just said that as he was seating an elderly couple that arrived before me. However he after he came back from seating them he just stood at the host podium for like 6 or 7 minutes. and he kept glancing at me like he was unhappy I was there After I pulled out my cell phone to look at the time and started to walk out he said. "Sir I can seat you at this table over here in the corner or if you want to wait another table might open. The table he pointed to was literally cramped in this cubby hole with barely enough room fro a very small table 1 chair and no room for a person seat comfortably. I asked why the wait and counted out loud 5 empty tables. He repeated his offer to wait or the corner table. I said never mind I would just write a yelp review and be done with it and started walking out and then he says "sir wait. Maybe..." but by then I was already almost out the door and didn't hear him finish the sentence. Should not have to take a threat of a poor review for reasonable service. Anyway, I went down the road about a block to another restaurant I had not been to. It was about the same size and had about the same number of customers and empty tables and I was seated immediately and had an outstanding dining experience. First time visit and we were very impressed. We were greeted warmly as we entered and from that point on our lunch was the most enjoyable one we have had in a long time! Our waitress was friendly and professional. Lunch was served quickly and presentation and quality was good. Never again will I go to Mimis Cafe. First we get arrive and no one was at the hostess station and we went unacknowledged for about 5 minutes. Then we ask for a booth but I guess the host didn't hear our multiple request. After being seated we were ignored for about 10 minutes before someone finally came and got our drink order. We eventually got to order food and the food was underwhelming. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my wife ordered the chicken pot pie. My waffle didn't suck but my chicken was tasteless and dry. My wife's chicken pot pie was bland. Overall the experience was bad and not worth the price take in count that we had a buy one get one free coupon. We expected more. read more

First I want to say sad that the Mimi's in Mesa has closed. We had to come to this restaurant and I had the most disappointing meal ever. Service was not that great, one waitress working a entire area herself, the hostess was not a friendly person either. Now for the food...the bread basket has changed no longer is the carrot raisin in the basket. Sad to say my favorites off the menu too. The chicken pot pie gone, the chicken crepes gone, grilled cheese sandwich gone. The special was something I think called Mac and chicken not even on the menu and it was so bad could not even eat. The dinner did not include any vegetables or even a salad. It consisted of penne pasta and a Alfredo sauce with parts of leftover chicken. Yes it tasted like warmed up leftover chicken thrown into the pasta. So after all the years of enjoying this restaurant my favorite place is now the worst place. read more
