My mother loves French Onion soup and after a long day supervising the final set of repairs to her home that had been damaged by a waterless, she was exhausted. So, we went to Mimi's for their onion soup which was served piping hot and was delicious, staving off the hangries. Our server was lovely man named Jared, who was rocking the coolest hair for miles. He was gracious, prompt, and professional and made the meal a pleasure. The special of the day (Thursday) was a delicious French Pot Roast, served over mashed potatoes. It really was delicious, slightly sweet gravy, served too hot to eat (which is how all food should be served in our opinion) and as it cooled, it was just lovely, tender, fragrant, and perfect as the sun went down. Jared kept my mom happy with fresh warm bread, and at $9.99 for the entree, we both ended up ordering it. I'd read a review that said it was very salty, so I was hoping it wouldn't be, and it wasn't! We grew up with a low salt diet (my mom's doctor told her 50 years ago that there is too much salt in American food, and it wasn't healthy) and so while we do use salt, we just need very little of it, so we are both quick to note with food is over salted, and our meal wasn't. This Mimi's has kind of dropped somewhat in the last several months. We liked to go here, and it was still good, but... it just wasn't as good. We had to ask for a basket of bread to be brought to our table, they used to bring it automatically. I had the Salmon grilled on a bed of rice and vegetables and it was good. The waitress was alone in the dining room and was very busy, but the service seems to have gone down some. We will try again soon and see if they just had an off evening. read more

Met with family and was greeted with enthusiasm by hostess and waitress. Menu has a good selection to choose from-mostly American comfort food that tasted great! They used to have a muffin with the salad but no more! You have to buy it separately but it is worth it! Pumpkin and blueberry are my favs-Bran is Dad's fav-gooey goodness! Prices are average for this day and since it is not fast food but really good home style cooking it is worth the cost! Gotta try it! read more

Went for breakfast about 8:30 Sunday morning. We were only 1 of 3 tables. Was disappointed to find out they didn't serve chicken fried steak or hashed browns. Service seemed like it took forever considering the restaurant was basically empty. Sadly, this place has gone downhill. Was not even acknowledged after standing at the front entrance for close to 5 minutes. As a woman continued at the bar counting her receipts. When I asked to be seated, she barely looked up and said "Give me a minute, Miss." We did not feel very welcome. Then they got my order wrong. Food was mediocre. My wife and I had lunch at Mimi's - we each had the French Pot Roast dinner. It consists of mashed potatoes covered by well cooked pot roast in a meat gravy with carrots, mushrooms and onions. It was quite good and the quantity was adequate - we even took some of it home. Daniel, our waiter, was quite good. He greeted us quickly, took our order immediately, and checked back with us after it was delivered. All good and recommended. read more

We came here for breakfast and were so happy to see that Mimi's Cafe was still serving delicious food. My mom and I used to come here all the time when I was a kid and I remember that I would get a kids dessert of worms in dirt. Food was really good and service was excellent. One of my friends really likes Mimi's so we meet up here a couple of times a year. Try as I might, I just don't love this place. We met up here again recently for dinner and it was just okay. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks after we were seated (my order was for water) and then it took another 30 minutes before our order was finally taken. The waitress apologized for the delay and explained she was the only one there. I didn't hold it against her, but it was a frustrating start to the evening. Once our order was taken, the food came out in a timely manner. My dinner order was meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans. I normally love most every meatloaf I've ever had until this dinner. While the veggies were not exceptional, they were at least okay, but the meatloaf was the most dense and tough chunk of ground beef I've ever had. I actually had to use a knife to cut up the meatloaf which was a first for me. I was able to get half way through it before I finally gave up. My water was never refilled either which I sure could have used after dealing with that meatloaf. The meals I've had here in the past were all just okay too. I've had pasta, fish and chips, burgers, and breakfasts and there's really been no standout meal. My friends are special to me so if it means eating at Mimi's once or twice a year, I'll do it, but otherwise I know I wouldn't go out of my way to return for food and service that's "just okay". read more

I am disappointed to say I would not recommend coming to this location. I love going to Mimi's Cafe and have never had an issue with service until today. I came here for breakfast with my mom who speaks mostly Spanish. We heard the waitress speaking Spanish to the other staff members so when she came to take our order my mom started asking her questions, the waitress was rude and condescending refusing to help her in Spanish. We are not upset that she allegedly didn't speak Spanish (even after we heard her speak it) or ever expect for any restaurant to accommodate us in a different language. We do however expect to be treated with respect and common decency regardless of the language we speak or our ethnicity. I hope this issue gets addressed, no family should have to feel this way. read more

Plans fell thru so we thought instead of cooking Thanksgiving dinner at home we would try and get in somewhere. Almost everyone was booked but Mimi's was still available, score! I booked a table of 4 for 6:30. I tried not to let all these sad marginal Yelp reviews dissuade me, I have after all eaten here many times and actually had their turkey dinner before and it was quite good.....big mistake. The good part is we were seated close to 6:30 even though there were all sorts of people waiting. Our server, although frazzled and tired, was nice enough. The meal was basically hospital cafeteria quality, scratch that....I work in a hospital and the food is much better there. The turkey was acceptable but the stuffing (a spoonful hidden underneath) was tasteless and soggy. The potatoes and yams, just passable, and what they actually had the nerve to call green bean casserole was just canned green beans drowning in a sea of mushroom soup..in fact the whole plate was covered in this soup. The pie, choices..well they ran out of pecan so pumpkin was our choice was not Mimi quality at all. Couple of bites and we were done What a disappointment this whole meal was...never again read more

AOK Breakfast. This is my go to MiMi's. Service is whatevers, as is the food. It is convenient and they do make a decent cup of coffee. The location has me stopping by for breakfast and the occasional dessert. It is an easy off and on the 55 fwy (at 17th. Street). Parking is easy. I think all the MiMi locations need a vital updating. We are not in the 80's or 90's anymore. I think the staff need to get up beat uniforms. Otherwise, an AOK place for breakfast. read more

If you've lived in Socal for awhile, then of course you've been to a Mimi's, so I'll make this quick. I came in for lunch weekday lunch today at 1:15 p.m. The restaurant was packed but I got seated in 5 minutes. After getting my table seat and a glass of water my server took my order. I ordered a full BLT Sandwich, swap out the fries and add French Onion Soup instead. My soup came out a few minutes later, but my sandwich took 30 minutes from order time to finally make it to my table. This was a little surprising because the items I ordered are the same items that are on their 15 minute "Cafe Express Lunch" menu, the only difference being that I made the sandwich a full instead of a half order. I was a little bugged that my lunch hour was going to take longer than usual, but I didn't say anything to anyone or make any faces. I just read my sports page. Now what was cool was that when my sandwich arrived, there was a second french onion soup on my plate compliments of the house. That means FREE! My server apologized for the backed up kitchen and wanted to thank me for waiting. Yes, I would have preferred to been back at the office 15 minutes sooner, but I was still impressed that Mimi's server and floor manager were attentive with their service and proactive about satisfying their customers even when there was no complaint made. read more
