Sadly, my girlfriend and I stopped by this place on President's Day (Monday) to try and get some dim sum. We ordered about 10 things off the dim sum menu and was disappointed with microwaved leftovers. Not even the chinese broccoli was fresh. The worst thing we ordered was the baked egg yok bun. The best was the chicken bun. Yes, this place does serve authentic chinese cuisine and had some potential. Maybe if it was Sunday and everything was fresh, we would've enjoyed our meal more. read more

It's quite surprising to find great Dim Sum in the Southwest. For a town that doesn't have a large Chinese or Asian community, this is simply great Dim Sum. Unfortunately, it's only served one day a week. It may not rival the China towns in Frisco or New York, but they come awfully close. I am so sad. This is supposedly the only place to get dim sum. Now I've been to places up and down California, in New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas, so my taste buds are skewed and I should remember where I am. Yet, this was the worst dim sum I've ever had, it was edible, thus the 2 stars. The meat was tough, and portions were small for some dishes. I came on a Friday, so there were no carts, but I'm unsure if that would make a difference. I really wanted this place to be good, but I guess I'll have to stick to frozen options until I can make it back to at least decent dim sum. On a positive note, besides dim sum we had a dry chow fun noodles, those weren't half bad. Service was good though, so if you want something other than dim sum, perhaps this place could do it for you. read more

After reading some reviews we thought we definitely should this place but unfortunately it was huge disappointment. The egg rolls were gross and quite frankly a mystery cause we couldn't tell what was in it. The fried rice was plain and bland. Will not be ordering from ever again! read more

Ming Dynasty is by far one of my local favorites. You can order off the menu during the week or try Dim sum on Sundays. The orange chicken combination is my favorite but Ming, the owner who serves you himself during the week can serve up some killer other plates. The egg foo yong is pretty delicious as well. Being as it is Albuquerque and only one of two dim sum places that I've heard of (still have yet to try the other one) there dim is what it is. Not the greatest I've had and not the worst. Went about two hours before they were going to close. Some items were fresher than others but it satisfies the craving I had. Would I go back? My experience was fantastic. They were open on Christmas Eve!!! The food was hot and fresh!!! Yeah! I walked in and there was a festive atmosphere (gift giving going on) and the price was right. The didn't get a 5 star because we had gone there for the first time and tried to use the website and it is a bit of hard navigation and doesn't show their whole menu. This restaurant advertises as the only dim sum restaurant in Albuquerque that makes its own dim sum fresh. Sadly, the food and the decor is subpar. Even considering that this place isn't in Hong Kong, or even NYC/LA/Boston, I am surprised at how poor the food was. We were not offered a selection of tea options, even though their menu listed the tea options typical at dim sum restaurants. The rice flour wrapping of several dim sum items was too thick, and dry--I suspect that it is related in part that they do not have much turnover in food (We even came on Saturday). The fried taro dish tasted of reused oil, and had a weird meat taste. Service was somewhat prompt. The decor is old, as in many Chinese restaurants. However, the lack of quality in the food does not make up for the run-down decor of the restaurant. All of this may be due to the small Asian presence/demand in the city. I do hope that things improve in the future. read more

The owner Mihn is very cordial and helpful with questions on the food itself, and always smiles. The dim sum is my favorite and is very fresh. If you order off the regular menu to include a large selection of seafood that I recommend. Other menu items of American- Chinese food is good, but not outstanding. Completely disagree, my husband & I ordered beef & broccoli, chicken fried rice, an order of egg rolls, and shrimp rice noodles off the Dim Sum menu. The beef & broccoli was ALL broccoli, there were maybe 10 very thin small slices of beef. The chicken fried rice had completely no flavor, no salt, no spice, it was like eating styrofoam. The shrimp rice noodle was the same, no spice, no taste, or flavor. There were 4 little pieces of shrimp and the noodles were runny and cold. It was not a pleasant experience & unfortunately I am still on the hunt for a GOOD Chinese restaurant in Albuquerque. read more

Only been here once with a party of four. We ordered several dim sum dishes to share and I personally thought them delicious and was well satiated. All very good, but my big kudo comes because I received a Christmas gift in the form of an envelope full of cash here. By the end of dinner, I completely forgot I had put the envelope to the side in order to eat and ended up leaving the envelope. Now, I actually didn't notice 'til that night and though I wasn't incredibly distressed about the money itself, the fact that it was a gift and that I lost it did cause some misery. I quickly fell into the depressed thinking that "oh, well. I screwed up. It's gone". After embarrassedly admitting what happened to the giver of the gift they insisted I call. Instead I said "screw it" and headed over in person the next day around dinner time. Can't remember if it was the manager or owner, but I will forever remember the honesty with which they kept the envelope safe and kindly returned it without so much as looking at what was inside (I think). No money was gone though and I of course left a 20 for their virtue. Either way, that made a loyal customer out of me and I will surely recommend this place and be back myself when the opportunity arises. read more

First time here and it was amazing. Great friendly and kind service. The meal was great for sharing on our date. The food tasted great definitely better than anything Panda Express could offer. The price was also very reasonable just $25 (including tip) for our meal. They also ended it with bringing us hot towels to wipe our hands and fortune cookies. Have only been for Dim Sum. Quite possibly the worst meal that I have ever had. Partner and I got several items from the cart. Every one of the items were very salty and appeared to be covered in fish sauce. We ate little, covered our plates with napkins and went elsewhere for lunch. read more

Came here on a Saturday about a year and a half ago and haven't been back. I was really excited to hear about this place when I got orders to move here for my second assignment in the Air Force. A couple of officemates knew about this dim sum place near base, and they said it was pretty decent! Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed in this place. We went on a Saturday because supposedly they'd have fresh dim sum on the weekends, but everything we ordered tasted like they were from the freezer section at Talin market. Portions were small and the prices weren't the best either. Servers didn't speak cantonese - so I had to point at stuff or try to translate loosely into english. No-one looked very happy to be there. While ABQ does have some authentic chinese food (taiwanese - Budai and Fan Tang...kinda, cantonese - ABC Chinese), I'm sorry to say that I'd rather take a flight back home to california than have dim sum here again...It's just too disappointing. I don't think it's their fault in particular, I just don't think the market here is big enough to support a high quality dim sum restaurant (which is why ABC chinese stopped doing it years ago). read more

Ming Dynasty is known around ABQ for being the only Dim Sum serving restaurant in town. While this is true it is just the staple Dim Sum menu you find in every dim sum place in bigger cities. Being from the Midwest, The Phoenix in Chicago is my baseline for this review. Ming Dynasty is much smaller in all aspects. The menu has less items. I've never seen more than 6 tables occupied at any given time. The place is small and the place could use a lot of redecorating. There seem to only be about 3 people working. But the food is good and being the only Dim Sum place will always bring in those of us big city people trying to get a little taste of back home. read more

The dim sum at Ming Dynasty is really the best that I have tried in Albuquerque. Their roasted pork buns (steamed and baked) are the best I have ever had, compared to dim sum in Cleveland, Ohio and Boston, Massachusetts. Ming Dynasty supplies the customer with a wide array of choices with four carts full of tasty treats. The staff is courteous and friendly. Ming Dynasty's atmosphere is simple and pleasing with spacious tables. Even when it is crowded on Sundays, you never feel as though you will bump into other guests. All I have had at Ming Dynasty is the dim sum, so I cannot vouch for other items on their menu, but from what I can deduct, if Ming Dynasty's dim sum tastes great, their Chinese food must follow the same pattern. read more

Just before writing this review I told my husband, "I could eat dim sum every day of my life. I think it's my favorite." That being said, I love Ming Dynasty. You might miss it if you're not looking. The atmosphere is not flashy or hip necessarily but a good place to get great food. We are always able to get a seat. Service is prompt and friendly and the dim sum is great! The only place in Burque that really provides traditional dim sum. The dim sum used to be more popular so that on Sundays they were served in silver carts to a packed restaurant, but now it seems you just have to order it off the menu, which isn't as fun, but no fault to them obviously. read more

My rule of thumb for Chinese restaurants is if it's often frequented by Chinese people, it's generally going to be good and authentic enough. If you go there on a weekend for their well known Dim Sum, you'll see plenty of Asian people here and it's really great. Home made, you can't go wrong on a Saturday or Sunday when they first open. This restaurant is totally sketchy and racist. When our party arrived there was a sign stating the restaurant was closed for a private party. I went in and asked if there was time for us to eat before the party started. They said no, but permitted me to order food to go. While I was outside eating in my car another couple drive up. They approached to door and saw the closed sign, returned to their car and while we were chatting a waitress come running out and invited them to come in and eat. They looked at us eating in our car and the waitress just waived us off in a "don't worry about them " gesture. I and Anglo, the other couple was not. Besides not being permitted to eat in this place, the food we ordered was terrible, Dim Sum, soup, Roast Pork Fried Rice and potstickers. All tasted reheated and was dripping with grease. I had high hopes and was very disappointed. Most of our food we barely edible. I picked up a few dim sum items....the shrimp har got tasted old and like the fridge, the potstickers were deep fried...not pan fired and hard, the pan fried noodle dish had little to no flavor, the orange beef was dried up small strips of beef over fried with a nasty sauce. I'm a regular at Mind Dynasty for their dim sum service on the weekends (I've never eaten there for just lunch or dinner). The dim sum is good to very good and the selection is OK. This is Albuquerque, after all, not DC, or NYC, or San Fran, so I'm grateful just to have a place that serves dim sum. My favorites are the shrimp-stuffed eggplant with black-bean sauce, baked barbecue pork buns, steamed barbecue pork buns, the pork and ginger shu mai, and the sweet tofu. My usually picky preschooler gobbles up the food at Ming Dynasty happily and with gusto. My only disappointment there has been the taro cake, which was a little flavorless and dry. Everything else has been enjoyable. The service is good, although a little spotty at times, especially with some of the newer faces. There are two servers who have been there since I started going there who always take care of us, even when we're not in their section, and try to pick up the slack when the rest of the staff is a little off (which happens when they get too busy). Most of the servers are warm and polite, even if their English is a little limited. On busy days, it can take a while for the carts to get to your table. The restaurant itself is OK in appearance. It could use a fresh coat of paint to make it more appealing. The bathrooms are reasonably clean. Parents - their high chairs are quite old (all metal, possibly 70s era chairs) and not exactly spotless-looking. I like to bring my own hook-on-the-table high chair or at least a cover for their chair. read more
