The biggest gip ever. We gave our leftovers to a homeless person and as we drove away, we looked back at him and he was throwing the box away. Our bill was $37 for 6 items. Three of them were completely disgusting and we were unable to finish them and they weren't exotic items either. Shrimp, pork, and the like, the pork was a little pink. Looked undercooked. I was okay though. I honestly think they robbed us by charging whatever they wanted for our items. Our ticket had three chinese characters and a price that said $18 and then two chinese characters and a price that said $8 and then one more character that said $6. The dim sum here is excellent, rivaling the quality and breadth of selection found in far larger and more cosmopolitan cities. (I've eaten dim sum in Houston, Vancouver, Toronto, Boston, D.C., Hong Kong, and Taipei, among other places, so I think I know whereof I speak.) My in-laws want to come here every time they visit because it's better than anything they can get in their hometown of Denver, CO. The dim sum is at its freshest and best on weekends when they are served from carts pushed around the restaurant; you just point at what you want, and the waitstaff keeps a tally for calculating your final bill. Dim sum is also available during the week, but you order off a menu and the selection is more limited, and it isn't quite as good since it's reheated. I also have to put in a word of praise for their chicken pan-friend noodles. This consists of a large "cake" of crisply fried noodles topped with perfectly cooked and sauced white-meat chicken and Chinese green leafy veggies. The light, translucent sauce softens some of the noodles so that each mouthful includes a texture contrast of crispy and soft. The chicken is never dry, and the veggies are consistently crisp but tender. I really don't know how they do it. We order this dish a lot, both with our weekend dim sum meals and on its own during the week. If you can manage to snag a table on Chinese New Year's Day (or the closest weekend, if New Year falls on a weekday), if you time it right you'll be treated to the sounds of firecrackers in the parking lot, followed by a delightfully noisy and traditional lion dance that snakes its way amongst the tables. Mr. Ming (the proprietor) can often be seen taking his turn on the big drum set just inside the front door. Be forewarned, though, the loud noise and big flashy lion costume can overwhelm little kids. My then-3-year-old daughter cried with fright when the dance started, and I ended up having to stay in the women's bathroom with her until the drums ceased. read more

As usual, this review is weighted for location. If this was in Los Angeles or anywhere that actually had a decent Chinese population it would maybe be 2 or 3 star .... Ehhhh maybe 3 star. But, this is the only dim sum place and I'm pretty sure all of New Mexico. which is just a sad story and I can go on and on about how ridiculous that is, but I won't. To start with all the people, or most of people that work here are Vietnamese! Which actually worked out great as my husband speaks Vietnamese so we were able to get some of the tastier things from them. They have all the dim sum staples Chinese broccoli, shumai, pork buns, chicken feet and the like. The servers are all really nice and fast bring you food if you need it, they do a relatively good job of explaining to you what you need, which isn't always the case of dim sum places. I came here on the recommendation of a co-worker and it was a mistake. While very courteous and polite, the food was was not so good. We went with egg rolls, pot stickers, pork fried rice, chicken low mein and General Tso Chicken. They brought all of the food at separate times with each dish coming 3-5 minutes apart from the other dishes. The egg roll was literally pulled from a microwave and had absolutely no flavor, as were the pot-stickers. The pork fried rice was cold when we got it and the General Tso's had cartilage still attached to more than a few pieces. I read the other reviews and we consider ourselves fairly adventurous when it comes dining out so we thought we'd try it. We were polite and took the leftovers with us, only to pull over on the way home due to the smell and toss them into the trash. .....and so the quest for good Chinese continues. read more

This review is specific to their dim sum, not other dishes that may be good, but which I cannot vouch for. I've been eating dim sum/yam cha with my partner from Beijing for many years; it's a tradition for us; and we've had dim sum in Auckland, San Francisco, Seattle's Chinatown, etc. By far was this the worst, most unfresh assortment of dim sum we've ever had. Ming Dynasty is the only restaurant in New Mexico serving authentic dim sum. I have to say being a dim sum lover I was very pleased with their food. My personal favorite (Shumai) was so delicious and flavorful! Everything my family and I tried was good. The only complaint is one of the workers was very pushy on getting us to order more food. When I was living in Boston, I would often frequent Chinatown for the great dim sum. Needless to say, I soon got addicted. When I came back to ABQ, I was afraid that they may not have dim sum anywhere. However, Ming Dynasty brings the traditional dim sum to life in ABQ. I was quite impressed with the quality as well as the selection. The first times I went, I was disappointed because they where not big enough to do cart service. But, I was glad to find out that they have carts - but only on Sundays for lunch. Whenever I talk to someone who has never had dim sum before, I always recommend Ming Dynasty as a great place to try it. I came here with a large group of friends, and I hadn't had Chinese food in years, since Chinese buffets ruined my Chinese experience growing up. When I arrived, I was nervous about Dim Sum, since I didn't know what Dim Sum was, but two of my friends were at the table, so I felt better since I didn't want to stand at the door without a clue of what I was in store for. As the table grew of people, the waitresses wheeled over some steel carts with metal bowls of steaming food. It was pretty much a pick and eat sort of place, and I enjoyed the idea. The food was good, but it added up pretty quickly. The good thing to me, was that I was satisfied pretty quickly and soon. We all split the ticket which was about $10 each, for the amount we ate, so I was pleased. I'll definitely be back again, with friends, as I don't think this is a place for one. read more

I just moved to Albuquerque from San Francisco a couple of months ago where I was living in the Inner Sunset - a neighborhood dominated by Chinese families and great Chinese food. Saying that, I admit off the bat - Ming Dynasty had a lot to live up to. We went on a Sunday morning and ordered the Crystal Shrimp, the Shu Mai, the Steamed BBQ Pork Bun, the Sweet Sesame Ball, the Beef Ball and the Shrimp Rice Noodles. Overall, the taste of everything was OK; my favorite was the Sesame Ball. One thing that really put me off was that in both shrimp dishes, the ahem...veins in the shrimp hadn't been removed. In general, I'm a fairly adventurous eater, but when it comes to eating shrimp, I prefer to leave fecal matter out of the equation. So...yeah. I just couldn't bring myself to eat the dishes with shrimp in them. The service was friendly enough, the atmosphere was so-so. Let me preface this review by saying I am from CA and get awesome dim sum in the SF area. As biased as I am, I would actually give this place 3 1/2 stars if I could. I got there just after the lunch rush and decided to get take out for myself and a friend. The gentleman that greeted me was very nice and offered me both the dim sum menu and their regular menu. I had never got dim sum to go, but I had a craving and decided on the har gow (crystal shrimp), shu mai, steamed bbq pork bun, beef dumplings and the sweet sesame balls. I stayed on the safe side as my friend is not a dim sum frequenter and not as adventerous an eater. The shu mai was excellent, as were the dumplings! The har gow, pork bun and sesame balls were okay; but I felt they would have been better if they were fresh and not taken home. The prices are resonable, not as cheap as some good places in SF, but still good. I think it would be a great place to eat dim sum with friends when they are busy and you can sit down and choose from the carts that run around! I tried Ming Dynasty for the first time last night. My favorite part was the server. He was kind, nice, and very attentive. We tried a few items off of the dim sum menu; fried eggplant with shrimp paste, sausage and chicken sticky rice, and steamed BBQ pork buns. All of them were pretty tasty, especially the eggplant. There were several of us eating so I can't remember what we all had for dinner but I ordered the General Tao's chicken. The portion was big and had lots of sauce, which I love. However, it wasn't very flavorful and there was an odd taste to it but I can't describe what it was. My fiancé got beef with black mushrooms and that dish was very good! Lots of sauce, garlic, onions, and mushrooms. The rest of my group seemed to enjoy their food. I would go back because I liked the dim sum and liked the server but probably wouldn't order off of the dinner menu again. read more

I am from LA in California and this dim sum restaurant was a big disappointment. The dim sum was subpar. It tasted like leftovers that were reheated. On top of that, one of the waitresses decided to add an extra item that was close to $5 to our bill. When we notified the manager, the waitress tried to make it seem like we were lying! If you do decide to come here, be extremely careful and check/count how many items you have before they ring it up. They were extremely dishonest and sneaky and I have a feeling this is not the first time they had tried to pull this stunt. We ordered a total of 13 items and the bill (after they took off the extra item) turned out to about $50! Needless to say, they are very pricey and not worth the money. read more

I grew up having really good authentic dim sum for most of my life in San Francisco then in Los Angeles, with a few visits to Hong Kong and Taiwan in between. Then, I moved to Northern VA (DC metro area) where there was no dim sum close to home for the past 4 years. Now that I've moved to Albuquerque and had found that there was one restaurant in the area that served dim sum, I had set very low expectations before going to try it a few weeks ago for the weekend cart service. It was actually pretty decent and there were a few items that were pretty good! The service is pretty fast and friendly, even when it gets really crowded. The carts were stocked with just enough plates of each item so that things don't get too cold or stale as they are pushed around. My favorites were the har gow (shrimp dumplings), though I would prefer it without the carrot that is steamed on the bottom, shao mai (pork dumplings), steamed bbq pork buns and pastries, steamed bun with lotus paste, ham sui gao (fried glutinous rice ball with meat/mushroom filling), the taro puff/turnover, and the egg custard tarts. The chicken crispy noodle was not as expected as they had minced garlic in there, but it was still good once you got used to the garlic. The chicken feet were not so good. I'm so thankful to have a neighborhood place that I can go to when I have the craving for some yummy dim sum! I think we'll have to try their lunch and dinner entrees sometime. read more

We happened to be in the neighborhood today, and were looking for lunch. My husband and I both love dim sum, and I had read some pretty good reviews, so we stopped here and ordered. They were not busy. The young lady who welcomed us was very polite and friendly. We placed our order, she told us it would be 15 to 20 minutes. She didn't ask us to pay until just before our order was ready. She brought out our order and thanked us heartily for our business. My husband got both steamed and baked pork buns and said they were excellent, the steamed buns in particular had a lot of filling; he even said they were better than a place in Oakland California that we love, which surprised me. He also got the beef rice noodles, which were good if a little under seasoned for his tastes, and the noodles did kind of fall apart. (This may be a problem with getting some dim sum as takeout, especially because we don't live nearby). I got shrimp har gow, which were very good, if suffering from the same "falling apart" problem. I also got Chinese broccoli, one of my favorite things. I was impressed that they sliced up the stems, usually they are whole and it can be awkward to pick them up with chopsticks (or a fork!) I also had sticky rice in lotus leaf; Ming Dynasty makes theirs with chicken and sausage. There was a good portion and quite tasty. And I got sesame balls for dessert. These are large, 3 to a serving, and one is quite sufficient, so I refrigerated the other two. Tonight I reheated one in the microwave, wrapped in paper towels. And this impressed me: so often sesame balls are really oily, and if you reheat them, all the oil comes out. There was very little oil on these. Probably the best sesame balls I've had! Overall a very nice experience with very good food. We will be returning, and if it's safe to eat in restaurants come Christmas, we know where we will be going for our "traditional" Christmas day meal. read more

I write this as I sit here finishing off the Mixed Egg Fu Young from my visit to Ming's last night. I have been here at least 3 times before. I generally go with my brother and a friend when I am in town and they are making a run to Ming. This has been their favorite place and I can see why. The food itself is done well. The service is very personable and the prices and portions are perfect. While I have yet to make it for Dim Sum, I hear it gets really packed here on weekends. Inside, the place looked presentable without being overwhelming. They also played Chinese music but not too loud. Noise level was average. Cons: This place needs a serious upgrade to its curb appeal. The exterior really doesn't do this place justice. Soda does not have free refills; not even one. Tea, unsurpringly, does get free refills. I asked the waiter about free wifi and he told me the wifi was very weak. Overall good marks. read more

We came here looking for dim-sum and were the first customers in for dinner a week or so ago, not realizing they had just opened their doors for the night, so it was pretty empty. We're weren't thrilled about the regular Americanized Chinese fast food menu they first presented us with or the scarcely decorated big room we were seated in. But when the waiter (owner?) saw us sitting there unhappily and discussing whether to leave, he asked us if we wanted the dim-sum menu. The dim-sum was EXCELLENT! We ordered a table full of delicious dishes, were waited on very attentively and left very satisfied. It was a tad frightening walking in on a Friday dinner hour and becoming the 2nd table in a large (I'd guess that they could seat 200 people) dining room, but I'm glad I stayed. I ordered the fried wonton for an appetizer - they're a tad small, but there are 10 of them, so it's a generous portion. These were a tad more well-done than I like, but only a bit - potato chip texture, good flavor, fairly good hot mustard (I like mine a little hotter, but hardly ever find it in restaurants), and they arrived piping hot. I had the Shrimp and Snow Peas for a main course, and again, the portion size was generous - enough sticky rice for 3 people in the covered dish, and in the serving dish, more than I could eat. The shrimp were good-sized and well-represented, if a tiny bit overdone, with generous amounts of snow peas and water chestnuts perfectly done, and a few carrot slices for color. The sauce was ample, but I did wish it had been a bit overdone - it was delicious. The green tea was pretty standard green tea. The service was mixed. The staff is friendly and prompt, but a bit too eager to please. My main course arrived about 2 minutes after the appetizer did, and I was asked if I needed anything else more than was called for - not *quite* bothersome, but leaning in that direction. (I've been a server and trainer, and I tend to be pickier than most, so take that into account.) The fittings and ambience are above average - cloth tablecloths and napkins, non-disposable chopsticks (on request), and even the hot towel offered with the fortune cookie at the end of the meal. At these prices, I'd have expected much less. The price range per person is a tad misleading in Yelp's categories - many of the entrees were under $10, with the seafood (other than that marked market price) topping out at under $13 - so it's at the low end of $11 - $30 per person. read more

Quite possibly the worst dim sum I've ever eaten in my life. We went there Friday at 12:30 and the parking lot was empty. That should have been our first clue. Ordered dim sum that took forever to get. Every single dish we ordered was very old, freezer burned, completely inedible. I took one bite of each and couldn't eat anymore. I told the waiter about it and gave him the advice not to serve it to any other customers. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.
