I ordered from their website for pick up and food was ready in about 15 minutes on a weekday at lunch time. I got the rice roll with Chinese donut, $6, and the preserved egg and pork congee $9. The portion size for both was very good. I was disappointed by how wrinkly and thick the rice roll was and the donuts were cold rather than hot and crispy as I'm used to at dim sum places. It was still tasty and I liked the sauce that came with it. They give a generous sized package of sauce for takeout. The congee was really good at well, plenty of egg and pork. It's on the blander side but that's easily fixed and I prefer it over too much salt. Overall a good price to portion place, expect deli level food as the name implies. I'll be back for a quick and easy lunch. They have plenty of seating inside and parking wasn't an issue but I've seen it busy at dinner time. read more

A pretty unique place that specializes in rice rolls and other dim sum like dishes. We had a group of 5 and ordered 4 rice rolls, a turnip cake, and a fish porridge. The food overall was pretty good but I did have some minor complaints. All of the rice rolls were pretty similar in flavor just a different meat rolled into it. For a large group I would recommend not ordering too many like we did, or else you get sick of it pretty quickly. I particularly liked the shrimp and bbq pork. The fish in the fish porridge was not what I was expecting... I had hoped for tender fish fillet but it was kind of crunchy and rubbery. Would recommend a different porridge option instead. On the other hand, the turnip cake was absolutely amazing and probably the best turnip cake I've ever had. It was super flavorful with just the right crunchy texture on top. (3.5 stars) We came with our good friends who have always been the pioneers in trying new places especially Cantonese cuisine. Arriving shortly before 11:30 on a Thursday, we were the first in line waiting, many more showed up right after. Order and pay before seating is a smart move; using the sheet given in advance was fairly easy. The cashier was courteous and very efficient; who confirms the orders and make quick recommendations. An automatic 12% tip included was indeed very modest. We had two porridge, three rice noodle rolls and an order of turnip cake to share. Turnip cake in cubes pan seared was very tasty but in small portion . (4/5) The rice noodles roll all served in the signature thin, soft and slightly chewy wrap which we enjoyed very much. Our favorite was the one with the very well flavored tender beef brisket (5/5), Chinese donut got soggy in the wrap but not bad (3.5/5), the shrimp/beef one was my least favorite because the beef was over processed with tenderizer which lacks texture and tasted weird. (3/5) Unlike the other dishes, the porridges are served in generous portion and came piping hot. We enjoyed the Sampan porridge which offers a variety of ingredients fresh and tasty (5/5). The fish porridge was a little disappointing again because the fish was so processed to make it 'crunchy' didn't have much flavor otherwise (3/5). The porridge and the daikon cake are delicious. Love having this place as an option. The daikon cake is cut into smaller pieces and therefore are crunchy on more surfaces. I usually love rice rolls. This is a small place where you should know what you want before going in. You order at the register and they bring it to your table. I think there were eight of us and our aunt ordered for all. Therefore, we received a lot of food! They have many employees, so someone is always around to help you. And they are very nice. We got almost one of everything plus food to take out. I had a great time dining here and would highly recommend it if you're looking for something warm and comforting! The porridge and side dishes hit the exact savory, braised notes that I was looking for. I understand why the rice noodle rolls get mixed reviews. They're firmer and sauced differently than your standard dim sum rice noodle rolls, but I loved that they don't skimp out on the meat. Unfortunately, rice noodle rolls are pretty hot right now and can't say these were the best I've tried. I also would have liked my you tiao to be served hotter or more freshly fried - just my personal preference! It is almost impossible to find a good congee (porridge) place in the Bay Area. This is the closet one to what's from the Canton area in China. The congee is soft and smooth, with abundant flavor from the ingredients. We ordered the sampan porridge and most of the authentic ingredients like fish slice, pork, pork skin, fried peanuts were there, just missing my favorite squid. Taste is already very close to the authentic one. Their signature is the rice noodle roll, served with meat rolled into rice noodles and dipped in soy sauce. The "Cheong fun" skin (rice noodle roll) is thin and transparent, which is the most difficult thing to do and they did it. Tastes delicious. The "fried double" (Chinese donut rice noodle roll) is so so. I wish it came with sweet sauce and sesame sauce. Beef brisket is good although not incredible. Overall it's authentic and good taste. One note - it is so authentic that it brought the local hustle bustle to the states. You have to order everything at the door in advance before you get seated at a tiny table very close to the neighboring table. Oh well that's the authenticity. read more

Was initially excited to try. I suspect the brisket was loaded with MSG, I felt that rush after I ate. Not my favorite. Well, then ate some of the BBQ pork and same feeling. The rice rolls themselves were unique and good, but not a fan of MSG. The dishes were somewhat on the bland side and lacking flavor. Dining companions didn't finish theirs. Also, the pre-packaged packets of sauce for the rice rolls they give you for take out had little flavor. Maybe if the restaurant in-house sauce is better, why not package that up in small tub containers for take-out? Due to the MSG issue, it's not on my return list. read more

Although we knew MingKee was popular and had a reputation (from their other storefronts), we were not expecting such a long line at noon on a Tuesday for their latest location off of Homestead. I couldn't believe my eyes. There were at least 6 parties ahead of us, and the place had only been open for an hour. Fortunately, the line moved very quickly. MingKee also operates with a pay-first model, so the customer service was a lot more efficient. After we'd made our selections, and paid, we were seated promptly. Within a matter of minutes, our table started filling up with our orders. Preserved Egg and Pork Porridge (5/5): Well-seasoned, tender pieces of pork, and great umami from the preserved egg Turnip Cake (5/5): pan-fried turnip cake is the BEST. The crispy exterior contrasted nicely with the super soft and gummy interior. Loved the dried shrimp topping as well. You Tiao (Chinese donut) (5/5): Extremely crispy, fresh; perfect for dipping in porridge Rice Noodle Roll (5/5): The shrimp edged out the beef brisket one by a smidge, but only because there was more shrimp by volume than brisket. Plus, nothing beats the combo of sweet soy sauce + the thin, delicate, supple rice noodle skins. While I love beef brisket sauce, I think I'm just conditioned to have it with rice (and not rice noodle rolls) Curry fish balls (5/5): Each fish ball was perfectly springy and offered a toothy bite. My bf loved the pork skins buried in the sauce as well. Boiled liver & kidney (according to my bf, 5/5): I personally just am not a huge fan of liver and kidney, but we got it because my BF wanted it. The flavor of the sauce was great though, if you can get over the gaminess of the liver/kidney Milk pudding + red bean (5/5): They didn't have the almond milk when we went, so we settled for the milk pudding. It's custardy, soft, and just a tad sweet. If we weren't so full from everything else, we totally could have finished this. No waiting list to sign up, you literately need to stand in a physical line to get in (come on. It was winter). So I placed an order via phone and wanted to pick up instead. Food is generally good to warm the belly. It is very traditional Chinese food. Service is simple. You paid first for what you want. No matter how many people, they must be present to order, to know what you want. If you are uncertain to order, you are in trouble. You are pushed to order otherwise you are somewhat not welcome. A system to order first and seated afterward is not efficient and comfortable. The lady at the counter has the single 'authority' to seat you. They claim to be in business for a long time but the order system is disastrous. People line up in the door way to order. I guess not many people ready to order just coming in the door. This is post after my several visits and takeouts. Their togo was never ready as promised, and the staff altitude is really really bad and yelled at you to wait by the door. What's worse is last night i ordered congee with egg and they put a completely RAW egg on top. The temperature in togo box is not enough to cook the egg!! This is my first time to dine in (did takeout once before) and here's my humble comments: 1) service - fast, pay, sitdown, and the food will be brought to the table. but the service staff is "rushed" - so don't ask for tea refills. 2) price - not really that cheap, ok for the portion served, i.e. medium size. 3) I won't recommend the fish porridge. Why? the fish fillet is chewy, one has to pull (like eating tough squid) in order to take a bite off the piece. 4) I asked the server, and she said "it is what it is, and this fish is Xpensive!" My past experience with fish fillet that had to be torn off with great effort, as in fish that is not of edible quality. 5)pork porridge - the pork is slightly pink. Ordered the Sampan Porridge & Preserved Egg and Pork Porridge, Turnip Cake, Beef Brisket Rice Roll & Chinese Donut Rice Roll. Very tasty and had enough porridge left to take out for lunch the next day. Will definitely be back to try other porridge dishes. Ming Kee Deli reminds me of coffee shops I have been to in Tsim Sha Tsui. Small establishments tucked away along side streets. Ordering at the counter (in HK Cantonese) before getting a table and a small menu is part of the authentic quick and efficient atmosphere. Quite a lot of Cantonese chatter among the customers and staff gives an authentic vibe. Anyway, we have been a few times and always enjoy the XO Lo Bak Ko (turnip cake) and Curry Fish Ball & Pork Skin. The beef brisket rice roll was great the first time and less great the next time. Have also tried the Chinese donut rice roll, and pork & preserved egg porridge. Good enough...especially since it's a lot closer than going to HK. Love the thin-style rice roll which is characteristic of freshly made cheong fun which you would find in food stalls in Asia (the thicker type is found more often at places where the cheong fun is made ahead of time). My favorite tip is to dunk the rice roll in the curry of the Curry Fish Ball & Pork Skin. Yum! Going again tomorrow! read more

Didn't really like rice porridge growing up, always thought it was soaked overcooked rice. I guess your taste does change over time as you age; however my teenage daughter likes it a lot. This is not the plain rice porridge from its neighbor Taiwan kingdom porridge (which I do enjoy as well) but more like the porridge soup style served at dim sum. Great if you want something light for dinner. You order at the cashier, may have a line, and then you are seated. Good idea to order a or two porridge to share and some sides. The radish cake was particularly good and so was the beef stew (mine had half beef half tendons). Sides are not very large so you can order a couple. I would also add some greens to the mix. The milk pudding with red bean and the Sampan porridge is good, although it's not the original recipe.
