This is the most authentic Cantonese food I've had in the Bay Area - it tastes exactly like what I've had in Guangzhou. * Fresh rice rolls - the wrap is thin and silky, just like traditional Cantonese cheung fun should be. (I saw some reviews saying they're thick, but honestly these are perfect and super authentic.) * Porridge (jook) - perfectly cooked, smooth and flavorful. I haven't had porridge this good in ages! * Daily soup - every true Cantonese knows you need a nourishing soup with your meal, and theirs is spot on. The 海底川贝乌鸡龙骨汤 (sea coconut, fritillaria, black chicken & pork bone soup) is soooo good - deeply flavorful, nourishing, and exactly like the ones my mom makes at home. The service was also excellent. I kept adding and changing things last minute, and they were so nice and accommodating about it. Plus, the tables and chairs were clean and comfortable - a detail I really appreciate. We came here on a rainy day after the line at a nearby restaurant in the same square was too long. You order at the front before sitting down so it's best to look at the menu ahead of time if you're coming with a larger group. For 5 people we ordered the beef brisket rice roll (x2), sampan congee, pork liver congee, chicken feet (x2), fried chicken wings, soup and choy sum. It ended up being too much food but we were happy to try a variety of dishes. My favorite had to be the rice rolls which are freshly made and covered a meaty brown sauce with a good amount of braised beef and tendon. This definitely made us nostalgic to the rice rolls you get in Hong Kong. The soup also was great - we got one that was black silkie chicken with cordyceps + Chinese herbs and one that had coconut and pork. Both soups were rich from the steaming process and so comforting on a cold, rainy day. Well, the service was not very warm or welcoming - but the food came out fast and tasty! The porridge knocks it out of the park along with their variety of rolls (and dont sleep on the chicken feet) One more thing - the food here isn't served to be super shareable. This is a review for the to go order. Wanted some comfort food so ordered the preserved egg and pork porridge. Order also included turnip cake and shrimp flat rolls. Pork porridge - Tasty, a bit watery. The pink pork was a bit off putting and I wish they were cut into thinner slivers. Reminded me of large ham chunks. It's obviously fully cooked but visually the pink pork chunks gave me pause. Still hit the spot. Shrimp flat rolls - These may be considered bland by many as there wasn't soy sauce and it was dry. However I really enjoyed it and liked the texture and freshness. Wasn't used to it being prepared this way but did like it a lot! Turnip cake - these were cut up into little cubes. Wasn't a fan at all as there was sugar cooked with them and I don't like turnip cake sweet as I consider it a salty dish. I wanted to toss it but decided to soak it in Chinese vinegar (which I had at home) and after dousing it, it took away the sweetness and I quite enjoyed it. Overall, I'd give the to go 4 stars. Some oddities explained above which accounts for the removal of 1 star. Go in with an open mind and some vinegar (if you select the turnip cake) and you should be pleasantly surprised. read more

Every time I come here it's amazing. My personal favorites are the shrimp rice roll, the Chinese donut rice roll, beef porridge and turnip cake. I want to try all the other things on their menu but I keep coming back for my favorites. The braised beef rice roll is good too; tender meat and good seasoning, but the classic shrimp is hard to beat. The portions are generous and everything tastes super freshly made. Rice noodles were done in a traditional steaming way, it wasn't too smooth but ok. Veggie was well preserved with its green color. Lemongrass chicken wings were one of the best, crispy and flavorful. Double Skin milk wasn't an easy dessert to make as it required certain techniques, but the chef pulled it off. Smooth, wholesome and soothing, it was so delicately made that my husband asked if they put flour in milk to gel it. :) Sesame Paste was very good too. None of the desserts were too sweet, just the right amount of sugar, great for health conscious folks. Service was excellent. The girl was kind, friendly and helpful. I'm suddenly transported back to China, Guangzhou where you wait in line, order, scramble for seats, and then food comes out fast, and piping hot! MingKee offers Cantonese breakfast food, at a decent price. We got a variety of rolls and sides for a party of 4. The Porridge: To be honest, porridge isn't the most flavorful of foods. It's comforting, hearty and warming, and lets the ingredients inside shine, which they got spot on. We got the sampan porridge (mix of seafood and meats) and the pork liver porridge. The right texture, and love that you can share with everyone. They come in these very cute clay pots. The Rice noodle rolls: Probably what most people come here for. Love that the soy sauce they serve it with is warm, no cold noodles here. Delicate tasting shrimp, liver, and beef brisket. Beef brisket is served with the braising sauce. The rice noodle style here is paper thin and like a wonton wrapper. It looks wrinkly but texture is silky smooth and holds up the sauce (don't let it completely soak though) Personally I like the paper thin style, come give it a try as it's different from the ones you get at dim sum. Lastly, the sides were amazing! Definitely get the sweet Chinese donut! (this is one of the few places in the Bay that make it) It's fried to order and so crunchy. Dip it in your porridge please. Turnip cakes were crispy and the Siu Mai was so juicy, full of mushrooms. To end, we got the double skin milk pudding (also hard to come by) which was the perfect was to end brunch with the most perfect smoothness, subtle sweetness, and rich milky flavor. Everything was very authentic tasting, true to the recipes I ate as a kid. Knocking down a star only because the wait line isn't really organized and there is no ticketing or numbering system. Servers seemed a little overwhelmed because of this, so be careful on weekends. No clear order of who came first and so I think this couple claimed seats that were supposed to be ours just because they were standing in front, but anyone can say anything, really. I was craving Chinese donut with sweet soy milk and theirs was some of the best I've had! Their soy milk was homemade and tasted like the one my mom used to make. I frequent the Thai place in the same plaza, and I kid you not - this restaurant ALWAYS has a line out the door! I was really intrigued since I love Cantonese food, especially cheong fun. The hype was real. I ordered some Rice Noodle Rolls, Red Bean Milk Pudding, and the Chicken & Cordyceps Porridge. This was plenty for two of us to share. I was pretty disappointed by the rice noodle rolls. The texture was unbelievably wrinkly and the noodles broke apart very easily. The sauce is savory and meaty; not your typical sweet soy sauce. The brisket one was okay, but a lot of the meat was tendon instead of actual brisket. The congee was meh. It was a yellow color from egg, the chicken was tender, and it was a huge portion! Sunday early lunch time, we ordered online for pickup. The line was out of the door and there was no empty table inside. Wow. I did not know this is such a popular place. Everything screamed authenticity. From the name of the restaurant to the way they operate: just like in China where a popular eatery is always supplier-side driven. You want my delicious foods? You need to deal with the way we choose to operate, not the other way "customers always right" kind of the deal. The rice dish takes skills to prepare. One must pour a thin rice flour broth onto a steaming hot plate and wait just the right amount of time, about 10 second, to start scrapping the crepe-like sheet up, wrapping the ingredients at the same time. One minute loss of control will ruin the perfectly silky surface or lose the ingredients inside. Once, again skillfully, put onto the container, the dish needs only a mild soy sauce-based seasoning. There's no escape from subpar ingredients or less skilled workmanship. On both, they were right on the dot. Of course you can also order porridges, but those require much less skills. They are also one of the few places that offer offals. That's what I will order next time. The CharSiu (BBQ Pork) was on the chewy side. read more

Got the brisket rice noodle rolls, XO turnip cake, and chicken feet to go. Brisket was 6/10: strong star anise flavor and kinda wanna say didn't taste too much else. The noodles were a little too soft and didn't have enough chew or texture to it. The beef has brisket and tendon pieces. Tendon was super tender. A few pieces of the brisket was pretty dry. A little disappointing given the reviews for this item. Turnip cake 8.5/10: this was honestly the star. They came in cubes and the scallions were fresh and not wilted from cooking it with the cakes in them so it gave a nice crunch and freshness to it. Good flavor. Only thing I can say is for personal preference would have wanted it crispier. Chicken feet 7/10: pretty good flavor, pretty tender. Good portions. Only $5 I think? read more

It is great to find rice roll specially restaurant. I know there are many in California as I been living in North Carolina, we don't have much Asian food. The concept is simple, you order your food at the register then they sit you and bring your food to the table. I don't see much Chinese restaurants do this concept but it works well here. The inside is clean and felt comfortable to eat. We ordered the beef with rice roll, which tasted excellent and with many flavors, I can eat like two more orders. The slight disappointment comes Curry Fish Ball with pork skin, the curry flavor is great and fish ball tasted awesome, but the pork skin was thin sliced and doesn't have much flavor. This is an authentic Cantonese place specializing in porridge and steamed rice rolls (腸粉) with a some pretty decent side dishes. Customers order and pay at the counter before sitting down. I love this concept btw, it keeps the line moving quickly as you're forced to make up your mind before getting to sit down and the food arrives pretty quickly once you sit down. Ok onto the food. The rice rolls don't look fancy at all (in fact a bit ugly if you ask me) but the flavors are all there. Compared to larger dim sum places the rice rolls are not as "smooth" but you do taste the rice flavor a bit more. If you're ok with livers, I recommend the rice roll with liver. It's steamed to perfection (juicy and tasty) which is difficult to do (most places tend to overcook it and cause it to be dry). Another recommended rice rolls is beef brisket rice rolls. Porridge is another specialty and I've tried a few different kinds but my favorite is liver (again great temperature control with the cooking) and if you want something a bit more animal friendly get the sampan porridge (peanuts, shrimp, fried dough, and a couple other ingredients). As for the sides, I highly recommend the house special beef brisket. It's one of the tastiest and most satisfying beef brisket I've tried around the bay. Just be aware the portion is rather small. Turnip cake with XO sauce is another recommended side. The soups are good but not a must have. What is a must have is their milk pudding with red bean. I ordered beef rice roll with an extra egg and more rice roll--just like I used to as a kid, which gave me a nostalgic feeling. Beef Brisket Rice Noodle Roll ($10) : Rated 3/5. Seemed like a popular dish so I had to try it but I wasn't a huge fan. The rice noodle was nice and thin and the beef was nicely cooked but the sauce was mediocre and flavorless. Made me want to add some soy sauce to it. Fish Porridge ($11) : Rated 1/5. Horrible and very strange crunchy fish! I order this dish at many places and it's always a white fillet fish that's soft but this one is thinly sliced with black skin on it and crunchy believe it or not. I love this place for authentic Cantonese comfort food. Most of the crowd is Chinese/Cantonese speaking, and it feels like a little slice of HK right in the bay. You order and pay before getting seated. I don't think it's on the English menu but I highly recommend the "beef tongue" which has neither beef nor tongue lol. It's similar to the Chinese donut and it sorta looks like a fried beef tongue, hence the name. It's made to order and fried to perfection. I think it has a bit of condensed milk in the center. My mom said she used to eat this all the time in HK when she was a kid, and she's so happy to finally find a place near us that serves this item. The pidan porridge was a slight miss, bc there was barely any preserved egg in the porridge. The taste was really good though. I was super excited to find a churn fun place here in the Bay Area similar to what you would find in HK with almost an open face noodle with toppings smothered in a sweet soy sauce. Coming back from Vancouver, BC I really had the cravings! Imagine my luck finding MingKee Deli! To note, the parking lot is a nightmare to drive into and out, not to mention parking! Spots are tight and everybody double parks. It gets extremely busy during dinner rush and limited lighting in the area, so look out for drivers! It is an order first and then sit down establishment. Menu lists the different rice noodles ranging from 4-10 dollars. They don't offer dried shrimp as one of their options, but you can add it to any of your rice noodles or just add it to the plain rice noodle as a topping for an additional cost. They also serve porridge, sides/appetizers, and dessert. The food comes out super fast, but I was so disappointed. It came out luke warm, almost cold. I went around dinner time and was expecting a lot more and honestly the food to at least be hot. It is pretty terrible to eat a cold noodle and the filling inside was just below room temperature. I wasn't expecting it to be freshly made to order, but at least cheap it up properly. The porridge was expected - that at least was warm but no flavor at all. I got the chicken and mushroom, a plain noodle with dried shrimp, and the pork liver and kidney porridge. Overall it wasn't a great experience, but I will come back to give them another chance. This is a chain, with a location in Newark so maybe it'll be better there. Otherwise, I say opt for the other rice noodle chain in Milpitas/Dublin. Really looked forward to trying MingKee's first location in the US. I had heard good things about their location in China. Dishes here are typical of the Guangzhou region. Do NOT confuse this with the MingKee restaurant in San Francisco, where their focus is on BBQ meats, like roast duck, etc. They're not affiliated. It's just somewhat of a common name. If you grew up in an Asian household as I did, and think of a huge bowl of porridge and rice noodles as comfort food, you'll enjoy Mingkee. Housemade Rice Noodles are what Mingkee is known Unlike the typical rice rolls served during dim sum that are smooth and super slippery, these are intentionally thinner and a bit more textured. Both are good, just different. The Rice Noodles with Beef & Tendon ($10.00) were a hit with me. I'm always down for tendons and these tendons were tender and not one bit overcooked. Also really enjoyed the generous servings of their creamy porridges. They have the basic standards, including a Preserved Egg & Pork Porridge ($9.00) which I had. It was fine, but what I really liked was the Sampan Porridge. The Sampan Porridge ($12.00) compromised of an assortment of seafood, intestines and peanuts. The combination of different items gave the porridge itself noticeably more flavor than the Preserved Egg & Porridge. Actually, really good flavor! However, if you're prone to food allergies , I'd probably stay away from the Sampan since it's kind of a hodgepodge. Porridges served in the pots stayed pretty hot throughout the meal, which is a big thing for me. I love chili oil, but not so much from here. I think this may have contained beans or something. Anyway, it's not nearly as good as my favorite in SF. Nothing fancy ambiance-wise. More provincial homey vibes. Seating is fairly tight though. It's a small-ish restaurant and it is VERY crowded. TIP: There's an automatic 12% service charge, but I think that's reasonable, given their overall pricing. None of that 20% automatic service charge plus a 2-8% adder for "employee mandates" or whatever they choose to call it. We also managed to snag the last open table in the restaurant. The line started getting long by the time we left though (~8:30pm on a Friday). You order at the front/cashier first, even if you're dining in. They automatically added in a 12% tip to the check, and reminded us that there are no need to tip again when we were signing the receipt. Their service is pretty good despite us pre-paying for a relatively low mandatory tip. They already had cups of warm tea ready for us by the time we sat down. FOOD: Beef Brisket Rice Noodle Roll : The first dish to be served on the table. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed by the noodle roll (chang fen). I had high expectation of it since I thought that's what they're known for, but the noodle roll itself was just meh. Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty experience. Parking was plentiful in the strip mall plaza. There was a line of ~10 parties as the restaurant opened at 11:03 am. Ordering is done at the door with the staff. There is a $25 credit card minimum and a 12% mandatory service charge. Indoor dining was the only option. Staff wore masks when interacting with customers. Some kitchen staff wore gloves and used the same pair of gloves for self-cleaning before going back to the kitchen... Started off with the preserved duck egg & pork porridge which was smooth. The pork was perfectly cooked without being super dry and/or salty. The pickled vegetables and green onion toppings were delicious! The fried chicken wings were decent too. Freshly fried although the oil was on its last legs. The Chinese donut with rice noodle rolls were tasty. The rice noodles were super thin and the Chinese donut was chewy. The soy sauce was generous. The beef brisket bowl had a very bold sauce. Was quite disappointed with this place. We went on Sunday morning and there was already a line at 10:30am. I was excited to try given the line and reviews. Once we got in, you immediately order and pay at the cashier. They seat you after you pay and the dishes start coming out. I will say their rice noodle is pretty good, not super thick. My problem with it is how bland it is. I was thinking maybe Hong Kong people like this and it's normal to be bland? It wasn't as enjoyable as I'd imagine. I added an egg in the braised beef one too and could barely taste it. I liked the Chinese donut rice noodle more than the braised beef one. Turnip cake is usually my favorite at dim sum and this one is chopped up in smaller pieces and more tasty. However, sometimes there'll be thicker/harder skin. Porridge is also average, definitely on the bland side as well. Just not very impressed and will likely never come back. Very confused by the crowd. read more

Had a pretty horrific experience at this place. At first we were very impressed with the different fresh rice noodles made to order. While waiting I witnessed the cook actually scrapping up rice noodles he dropped from the floor and put back on the counter and served. My daughter and I were grossed out and told the waiter. We couldn't get ourselves to eat the rice noodles with shrimp inside although the waiter immediately dumped the plate and brought out a replacement. I saw the waiter talking to the cook who responded with sarcasm. He used the same spatula that scrapped noodles form the floor to continue to prepare food for customers. We decided to leave and never go back despite the good reviews. Can't trust this place as long as the same cook is there. Just bad hygiene, I don't want to get sick. read more

This place opened on April 12, 2022. We saw rice roll and congee and thought, great! Love them since I'm from HK. But after looking closely on the items advertised on the window... oh no, this is a mainland Chinese congee place and I have to admit, I'm biased for HK congee and not crazy about mainland Chinese style. My wife and my mother in law wanted to try this place. I wasn't even motivated to order and let them order whatever. Once the dishes came, I was pleasantly surprised! Sampan Porridge - Ok, let's say HK style is just better with more ingredients like mince beef and crispy vermicelli crumbs, squid etc. However, I have to admit, the flavor and the texture was pretty impressive. Beef Brisket rice roll - I was looking forward to it but it was better than I expected. The beef brisket was so tender and the sauce is so flavorful. I was sold! Chinese donut rice roll - I say this one is average as donut rice roll, but I have to admit the rice roll was very smooth and the customize soy sauce they made was really tasty. Assorted Pork porridge - well, they ran out of pork liver which is fine by me, but usually, the flavor of the congee comes from the pork liver and the pork meat ball. WIthout the pork liver, it still taste really good! Turnip cake with XO sauce - I love the XO sauce. Not the turnip texture but it's very subjective... some people like it firm, some like it soft... the flavor is good and again, I love the XO sauce. Hot chili sauce - free! And it was one of the best I have had... because it's very flavorful. However, the sauce is not as spicy as most people expect. All in all, the rice roll and the porridge is very good. I had to admit my biasness failed. This place is pretty good! They don't have a lot of selection but porridge is porridge, the most important thing is porridge base they made was quite flavorful and the rice roll's texture is very smooth. read more
