First time at Miramar. After a 3.5 mile walk, boy was I glad to see this place right at the ocean front. I'll be honest, my expectations weren't too high, the place is somewhat run down and looks like it's hey days are long gone. But I've got to say, the food was BUSSIN! We ordered the seafood chowder, crab cakes and fish and chips. The chowder was seafood-y, creamy and chunky. So good. They also bring some bread and butter to the table. Crab cakes were nice and crabby, they didn't skimp on the crab for sure. They serve them on a salad lightly dressed with balsamic vinaigrette. Even the salad was good! It was not like an after-thought garnish. Fish and chips were fried CRISP. The fries are seasoned and thick. The fish has that delicious fried outer shell with succulent juicy white fish inside. YUM. We finally got to try this ocean beach front restaurant in Half Moon Bay. We always always pass by this place and wanted to try it. We always walk or bike around, and see this place always filled with people. They seem to love it there and it was a perfect beautiful day to see the ocean while dining. So glad we built our appetite by walking to here from Francis State Beach; that was two and a half miles walk each way. It's a pretty cozy place. You can tell it's been here awhile. They have their own parking lot but not a lot of spaces. Plenty of seating inside and out as well as a bar to just have a drink. They offer side bread and butter when you sit down. Had their strong pina colada which was good. We had their fish and chips, bowl of clam chowder and Mahi Mahi fish tacos. Expected price for fresh fish by the ocean. Was not disappointed with the meal. Friendly service. We will definitely come back to try the rest of their meal choices. So glad we got to try this place. This is a really cute restaurant on the beach with a great view. We visited on a Friday night which was nice as they had live music. Started with a really good Makers Mark old fashioned-the bartender was pro level at making this. The sourdough bread and butter went perfectly with the clam chowder. The lobster pescatore was filled with fresh mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari and a whole lobster tail all in a buttery, white wine sauce. This was our first time eating there, having passed the restaurant many times walking on the beach pathway behind it, we decided to give it a try. Our Roadhouse hamburgers were delicious, cooked perfectly. The Tri Tip sandwich was excellent, the meat was like butter. Our server, Valerie, was attentive, friendly, and had a great sense of humor. Not to mention, we ate in the outside seating area with our small dog, and enjoyed comfortable tables and the ocean as our backdrop. A truly wonderful experience! Visited yesterday evening and found that service and food quality had gone down hill. Two of us, one ordered two appetizers, artichoke and crab cakes for her meal. I ordered artichoke soup and the shrimp pasta dish. The soup and two appetizers came and quality of the cakes was marginal, both looked great but the taste was not up to par and both were very soft centered, artichoke both outside and inside soft. My soup was adequate, nothing special. No pepper offered and none on the table. I waited and waited for my pasta dish and finally asked. The cook staff assumed we were sharing the cakes and didn't complete my order even though I was very clear when the order was taken that I was only having the soup and pasta dish. Angel hair and shrimp with onions and slices of garlic was also tasteless. Tomato sauce was light as advertised but tasteless. There was no offer of parmesan cheese, or pepper when food was delivered. No water refills until the plates were cleared, mine was empty for awhile. Seems like the old wait staff has been replaced! The mens bathroom soap was empty or non functional when we arrived. The women's bathroom had one functional soap container and one not. This means the male cook staff was unable to sanitize their hands after using the restroom. I was clear that the mens room soap was empty when we arrived and the lady understood the problem. At the end of the meal the soap container in the mens room was still not functioning. I again mentioned this again, this time to the person at the bar. He also seemed to understand. Went here for an anniversary lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. We came a bit late for lunch so we were seated right away at a window table with a great view of the ocean. We ordered the calamari steak, the crab melt and some soft drinks. Food came out after a relatively short wait. The crab melt comes with sourdough toast and was ok, however I felt the bread was too soft for the melt especially with the tomatoes and avocado on top. It tasted ok, but I definitely had better crab sandwiches. Fries were great. The calamari steak was pretty thin and had a lot of breading which overpowered the calamari a bit. The pasta with the lemon caper sauce was good. Really enjoyed the view, the cozy atmosphere and the live piano music. Staff were super friendly and attentive. The calamari steak was very good, but the waiter's accent was so thick and English so bad that we had to ask him to say everything twice, and still couldn't understand it all. The bus girl swept away food and dishes before we were done eating. The first time, I let the rolls go even though I wanted another one. Right by the beautiful miramar beach with overlooking coastline it's a great place for dates and catching up with family, friends. There are heaters and fire pits outside. The indoor seating is great too but we got a place right next to the beach in the patio. Service (5/5): our waitress was great. She kept checking in on us. Since it's my birthday they even got a complimentary on the house ice cream dessert as well. She was engaging and spoke well to us. Food: (2/5) The complimentary warm sourdough bread with butter was a great starter to munch on while we waiting for our apps. Planters punch: hubby had this cocktail and he enjoyed it a lot. He loved the drink and kept praising it for each sip. Pregnant mama missed out on this yumminess. Maybe next time :) Fried calamari: now this was a miss for us. This is a great spot and the food was delicious! We stopped by for lunch on a "June Gloom" day and got a cup of the Seafood Chowder, the Crab Melt and the Mahi Mahi Tacos. The chowder was fresh and hot. The Crab Melt was filled with fresh warm crab and avocado, making it very "California!" The Mahi Mahi tacos were tasty and not heavy. Food was delicious I got the shrimp angel hair pasta dish and it was great but presentation leaves a some room to be desired like our appetizer which was the shrimp thing was good but was only four shrimp very poorly placed on the plate with two cups of sauce next to it and some apple and almond slices under it. I loved this restaurant! It was a beautiful weekend and not too crowded. We were able to be seated right away and got the perfect window view. Lucky during this time (June) we saw 3 whales swimming around in the water so that was super neat! Our server was very nice and there was a man playing the piano which added to the ambiance. Although the pit was nice to keep us warm, it's not the most practical seating because you're leaning over to eat. I had the catch of the day and it was good but my boyfriend had the captains plate which consisted of a variety of fried foods and none were that great besides the fish which he was only given one piece. It was our 16 year wedding anniversary and it didn't disappoint. We were fortunate enough to have the fireplace. Fransisco was our server last night and he was amazing. Catered to our every need. I absolutely love this restaurant. From the very fun staff to the amazing food. I think they have some very best risotto I've ever had. It's not your typical clump, risotto served at some restaurants. This is loaded with vegetables spinach, butternut squash, wild mushrooms, fresh peas and they can add a protein from crab, shrimp or whatever else. Amazing Oysters are fresh and delicious but you've got to try the cheesy garlic bread... And let don't forget about the crab ravioli delicious. When he threw in Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty, we stopped talking just to listen and dance at our table - Parking is a bit limited - there were about 20-25 or so parking spots. The food was amazing! So much so I came here twice during a four day vacation. Seems like the restaurant had mostly regular locals but the staff were inviting and hospitable nonetheless. First time I came for lunch I had the Miramar oysters (their version of Rockefeller) and steamed clams for the appetizer. Amazing. I had the roadhouse burger for the main dish and my partner had the Scottish salmon which was phenomenal. The next day I came back for dinner and had the Scottish salmon again! There was so much going on I forgot to take pictures! The reason I took off 2 stars because of the service at dinner time. It was understandable that the restaurant was packed because they had a surf and turf special which our server recommended. My complaint is not with the food but with our server. He was dismissive of me and not once did he look to speak to me or acknowledge me, just my partner. He was very handsy and kept touching my partner which made him VERY uncomfortable. Service was a bit slow as well since he was talking to every table he passed by. Please do better and keep your distance and give courtesy to everybody at the table.
