Mirisata, this is a pretty good place to eat for dinner. The food tastes pretty decent, it's a bit salty and when we ordered medium spiciness, is a bit too spicy for us so be careful. Overall, displays have outdoor seating which is pretty Covid safe. The staff was super nice and very welcoming as well as they help us choose the right food and the right portion to eat. read more

I was so excited to try this food after reading about them in PDX Eater, I chose it for my birthday dinner meal. Imagine my disappointment when I paid $40 for a plate of bland rice and curry and other bland stews, bone-dry fritters (no dipping sauces?), and a minuscule, flavorless dessert that reminded me of flan. The service was incredibly kind and quick, so two stars for that, but I wouldn't eat this food again. I've enjoyed a $10 Indian buffet more than Mirisata, which bums me out. Portland's vegan food scene needs more interesting global food options and I want to support those places with my patronage. I really wanted to love this place, but I did not. Sri Lankan food will never get less than 3 stars from me. But I'm from Staten Island, which has one of the largest Sri Lankan populations. I ate Sri Lankan food regulary, and New Asha Sri Lankan Restaurant was my first stop when going back, after 5 years away. I carried food home to greet my family. Big differences between what I'm used to from the Sri Lankan restaurants back home and Mirisata. Some is the format. New Asha has a couple card tables. It's mostly take out, some eat-in. Lots of Sri Lankans eat there. Mirisata is a full-fledged restaurant. At Mirisata I get Seeni Sambal in a tiny dipping sauce-sized container for $3.50. At New Asha, liberal serving spoonsful, included in the price of my huge styrofoam container. I was disappointed with the parippu vode. They were overcooked and dry. The dahl is delicious. Kottu roti was also good. All in all, it's good to have Sri Lankan food in Portland. I will always make a beeline for New Asha when I go back, but it's good to not have to wait. read more

Easy walk up pickup window, took only 15-20 minutes from the time I ordered online. We had the coconut roti , with pol sombol and the string hopper meal. Loved the flavor profiles of everything, things had a more coconut almost floral like taste as opposed to overly strong and spicy Indian curries. The Pol sombol was spicy and refreshing but not too much so was great to mix with the curry. I would love to go back and try the pickled onion dish and the large banana leaf sampler plate for dinner (we went during lunch). At first it doesn't look like a ton of food but it is VERY hearty and filling so you get your money's worth! The two plates plus one extra coconut roti on the side lasted us for two filling meals. Will be back! Great for people that want a lighter/cleaner version of Indian food and plant-based folks. read more

Currently a pick up window in the old Hunt & Gather catering spot on Belmont. You order off their website, and then pickup at the location, where they've put some ramps in-front to an open counter. The catering background was definitely evident behind the pickup window, with a massive kitchen space. I ordered the rice and curry plate. I didn't know anything about Sri Lankan food, but assumed it'd have south Indian influences (and again, I don't know much about south Indian food either), but was glad that they were offering this set/plate that let me try a little bit of everything. The plate was built around yellow rice and included cashew curry, beetroot curry, cabbage mallum, deviled potatoes, tempered dahl, pol sambol, and a piece of papadam. I had also wanted to try the roti, but they were out of it when I ordered. The one miss in the ordering/pickup process was that had requested lunu miris (apparently a hot sauce/condiment), and noticed when I got home there wasn't anything spicy. The plate was in what I think was a 9"x9" paper container, lined with foil and some banana leaves, and then most of the items arranged on top. The pol sambol (a coconut based sweet/sour/mild spice relish) was in it's own container on the side, as well as a paper envelope with the papadam. I liked everything on the plate, and really enjoyed the variety, and didn't even realize it was vegan till I started writing this review. The beetroot curry and the deviled potatoes were probably my favorites. The service of dahl was generous, but didn't particularly stick out. The pol sambol was new to me, and was quite the surprising blend of flavors. I had originally noted it was coconut, and thought I wouldn't like it, but all the spice and whatever else was done to it made it act as a perfect accompaniment, providing a fantastic contrast to the curries. The item I liked the least was the cashew curry. The kinda soggy texture that cooked cashews get makes me think you ruined good cashews, but the flavor was good. I didn't realize they were a worked cooperative till afterwards, which just makes it that much cooler - i.e. interesting food and a cool business model. Overall a rad spot, and looks like they're going to be rotating the menu, and I look forward to trying other dinner plates (as well as their regular menu). read more

I came here because of the extremely high reviews while on the hunt to try something different. The woman working the register was very friendly and was helpful at describing menu items. One of the cooks also came to check how we were liking the food during our meal, and i could tell that they have a good atmosphere in the kitchen between those working. Sadly, the food just wasn't for me. I thought it was good, but not amazing. This may just have to do with my taste. I will say however that i am a huge fan of ethnic food and trying new things. I had such high hopes for this restaurant after following their Instagram page for the past year, but from the worker taking the order, who was both bland, unhelpful, and dry, to the food which was flavorless and expensive, it's hard to imagine what the appeal is, and why anyone would pay such an outrageous price for food. Thankfully, after 3 bites, we packed up the rest, and went to another restaurant and had a wonderful experience, so save your time and money, or go with someone who knows how to understand their confusing menu, or anywhere else. I mean, had I known our order was 2 mountains of cabbage, I would've just gone an bought a cabbage, it really is 'not' the everything food. I can easily cook any vegan meal extraordinary well, I don't know how they've managed to be ranked #2 in a vegan magazine with such bland and terrible flavor off their main menu, it's confusing. Food at Mirisata is delicious. Sri Lankan food is different compared to Indian food. Flavors are different. Plus this is a vegan joint which I love. Just wanted to give major props to the staff here. Today I witnessed a staff member clearly explain their vaccine policy to a group of people who wanted to dine indoors. One member of the group got frustrated by the protocols and proceeded to give the staff member a hard time and then loudly say rude things as they left. The staff member was so calm and matter of fact, and I can only imagine that they must have to put up with this kind of thing way too often. We were left a bit confused by our meal! Went in excited to try a new-to-us cuisine, and really pleased by the fact that their website includes a list of menu items for those who prefer a mild spiciness level. I ordered a fried rice combo meal with mild dahl and "broccoli mallum." The potato curry, broccoli and rice all seemed to lack salt completely--they tasted kind of like air, honestly. I would like to mention that I cook very simply at home and found these bland. Like I thought a mistake MUST have been made in the seasoning but how would that happen for 3 different dishes? Thank goodness it came with Dahl which is the only thing I would want to eat again, and which made my leftovers palatable the next day! I can recommend the Dahl! We also got meatball curry and godamba roti. The roti was too oily for our tastes but we have no idea if it's traditionally like that? Never had before! The meatball curry was to both of us, too spicy to enjoy eating, so can't really review that because it was more like a triage situation--would not order again. The dahl was good but I don't think I would go back again because what would we order with it? Too scared, especially because the rice wasn't even appropriately seasoned.
