It took me quite awhile to write this review, but I still remember how much I enjoyed this shop. I live out in Reston, but every once in awile like to hop on the metro and venture out to Old Town. There is a free trolley from the King Street station, but I personally enjoy the walk down King Street to the waterfront. There are plenty of shops and stores, and the area honestly reminds me of NYC a bit. (I lived there for a bit and sometimes I really miss it) Somewhere between the metro and the waterfront, you will find Misha's. At new coffeeshops I usually either order Nitro, a matcha latte, or a vanilla latte. I actually do not remember what I ordered here, but I think it was a vanilla latte. I DO remember that I enjoyed it. There is indoor and outdoor seating. They have self-serve free water. They have restrooms that you don't need a key for!! Saw this when walking to the waterfront and decided to try. Ordered the yellow cake and an iced Nutella latte. Cake was great but the coffee tasted weird. Didn't taste any Nutella, just burnt coffee so wasn't a fan. Location is nice, very close to the waterfront and an easy walk. This is a dog friendly place. Came here twice during our weekend trip to DC. My husband came here specifically to get their pour over coffees. According to him, they were good and much cheaper than the ones we get back home in LA. The cafe was busy both days we stopped by but the line went by quickly. Baristas were very friendly and helpful with the menu. Ambiance was very nice as well. There were plenty of tables inside and it seemed like a good place to catch up with friends or sit around to do some work. They have some seats outside as well. I tried the Nutella latte and it was just the right amount of chocolatey hazelnut flavor without being too sweet. I stopped by Misha's on a Sunday afternoon. Parking was a mess but hey it is old town. Cute establishment with seating out front and warm environment inside. I had been dying to try it since I have always seen a crowd regardless of the day I walk/drive by. However my experience was chaotic. It was crowded. People were not keeping their distance. Staff was asking people to pay and place orders while standing on top of each other. I didn't feel comfortable when I was trying to pay and another customers body was literally touching mine (because the staff asked him to step forward to start making his order). I think things could be a little more streamlined and spaced apart (while we are in the midst of a pandemic), but at least the coffee and treats are good. Again, the coffee was really good and I was pleased with my latte and warm croissant. It also looks like a great place to chill with friends (once COVID improves and there are more tables set up). read more

Misha's was just okay. Nothing more, nothing less. Was in the neighborhood and decided to stop in as I was waiting for a nearby food order to be ready. I'd heard good things and the reviews were fairly good, but a mixed bag for sure. The place has a cute storefront with lots of seats outside to take in Old Town while you enjoy some coffee. Inside, there are a ton of tables, but most were empty on that Sunday afternoon. The menu has plenty of options and has a wide variety of cold and hot drinks. The barista serving me was friendly, but extremely unhelpful when I asked questions about certain menu items. For example, when asked about the sweetness level of the Nutella Latté, they said, "well we use actual nutella, so like if you know what nutella tastes like...". I inquired more about the amount used, but they never specified and just said it's 'pretty sweet'. I ended up just ordering a plain, 16 oz latté. It barely tasted like coffee and had more of a burnt, milk taste than anything else. Very disappointing. If in the area, I may come back and give them another shot, but with so many other options around... it will be hard for me to take that chance. read more

They sell coffees (hot and cold), teas (hot and cold), hot cocoa, apple cider, Arnold Palmer drink, muffins, bagels, cakes, pies, brownies, quiche, sausage roll, and other food. The variety changes. There are always three varieties of coffee readily available, Caravan (a medium roast), Route 66 (a French roast), and Van Winkle decaf (a French roast). A different special coffee is featured regularly. They have 25 types of coffee beans of single origin, blends, or roasts. They have changed over time. They are displayed in huge glass jars. Any of the coffee can be prepared for you to drink using the "pour over" method or "French press" method. If you want coffee beans, they are priced per pound. The price is on the jar label. They can grind it for you. This review lists the 23 coffees that my wife and I have tried according to bitterness and overall taste. The coffee bean jars have flavor descriptions on their labels. The single origin coffees have a label on back that has a lot of details about the coffee's origin. My food review follows the coffee review. LEAST bitter to most bitter. We have tried many flavors here, but I only took pictures of 2. They're so delicious, my wife starts eating it before I can take a picture. Here's the two that I got. 1) Cookies and cream It had moist chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and oreo cookie frosting, topped with crushed Oreo cookies. Incredibly soft with smooth creamy layers. You can taste a hint of butter in the cream. Overall, it was moderately sweet with a good Oreo flavor throughout. It had 9 layers! 2) Carrot cake It had 9 layers of moist carrot cake and vanilla buttercream frosting. They use real carrots and pineapple. The cake had a good cinnamon, carrot, nutmeg, and vanilla flavor. It was moderately sweet with a great buttercream. No cream cheese frosting. :( Oh, well. It's very good nonetheless! Smith Island cake is the official dessert of Maryland. It was designated in 2008 by the Maryland legislature. Smith Island is the last inhabited island in Maryland. Access is by boat only. A ferry ride takes 50 minutes. You can tour the island on foot, by golf cart, or bicycle. It's only 9.18 square miles in size. The service is always polite and helpful. They are relatively quick. The place is constantly busy like a McDonald's. They have all the reasonable coffee and tea fixings you could need. The dining areas and restrooms are clean. The front dining area is decorated with Harlequin artwork on the walls. It's a cool place to hang out. Love the variety of choices in drinks and food. We haven't had a problem after more than 10 visits. I highly recommend you give them a visit! read more

I rolled in here this morning on my way to work for a large iced latte. I've been here half a dozen times already, and they have a great selection of different coffee blends as well. In addition to the latte, I also ordered two glazed donuts to take with me. On a couple of occasions, I actually stayed here for a few hours to do work on my laptop. The space is large enough with more than enough tables and chairs for everyone, and I like the large open space. The air conditioning also works well, especially on a hot and muggy day like today. However, I'm not a huge fan of elevated jazz music blaring throughout the dining room, when I'm trying to code! I was in town visiting a friend and scheduling some time to meet up with work colleagues that work remotely from DC. My colleague suggested Misha's as one of a few places and I read up on their Yelp page figuring it would be my scene. Wow, that's an understatement. Since COVID a lot of places have outdoor seating and Misha's does as well. But there's also plenty of tables and chairs inside to beat the heat during the summer months. They roast their own beans and sell a ton of specialty beans that you can get by the pound. I tried their dark house blend which was yummy and purchased the Yemen whole bean which is a caramel, syrupy sweet burst in my mouth every morning! While I was there, I also got one of their pastries, glazed cinnamon twist. I could gain weigh just by looking at all the cakes and treats they offer. They do have free wifi for customers and I didn't use it but I'm pretty sure they have a restroom as well. The prices are reasonable especially for the quality of the products. The staff is knowledgeable and hospitable. The location is great, off King Street in downtown (Old Town) Alexandria. Overall, I plan to go again when I come back to visit. My husband has been loyal to this coffee shop/roaster in Alexandria, VA since he was in high school (as many people in/from the area are). As we live in NC, he buys the coffee by the pound and has it shipped here or buys pounds of whole beans at a time when we in the area visiting. He will drink other coffee if he must, but he always says noting satisfies the same was a Misha's. His favorite coffee blends are Tanzania and the Caravan. Semi recently Misha's moved to a new location a few blocks over for a bigger space. They often have a line and especially in this COVID world I think all are grateful for the move as it got quite crowded before. It's a really nice space with tables in the front and back and the service station kind of in the middle. The staff is friendly and keeps the line with everyone's various orders moving like a well-oiled machine. My husband is always going ot get his drip coffee, but in addition they have specialty drinks like lattes, espressos, and all kinds of other beverages. They also have stepped up their baked goods menu at the new place as they have everything from savory bagels, muffins, and quiches to sweet baked goods. I personally don't drink coffee, so I am grateful for their expanded selections. On our last visit to the area, I got a Chai tea Latte to drink. It was delicious as always and had beautiful latte art. For food, we split a blueberry scone and a bacon, ham, and cheese quiche. It was perfect combo. Both were tasty, the quiche was a little greasy, but it also had two greasy meats in it so as expected. The scone was not too sweet which I liked. After asking locals where to find good coffee in Alexandria, Misha's was suggested to us. When we arrived, we knew the place had to be good because they were swarmed. It was honestly a bit chaotic. However, they had many baristas and each of them stayed on top of their orders. We ordered regular black coffees and they were quick to fulfill our order. The coffee was really good, too. I don't know how they make it work, with all the orders and people, but they just do. Their Brazilian coffee was so delicious that ended up taking a bag home, which they even grounded for me. Please TRAIN YOUR NEW STAFF on how to make coffee drinks. The staff that has been there for a long time has great baristas. The new ones need training and sometimes mistakenly overcharge. Your customers pay $7-8 for a medium drink and should be entitled to get at least the quality that the drink's name suggests, i.e. a cappuccino is NOT a latte.
