We were in Nashville for Thanksgiving and decided to order our Thanksgiving Turkey from Mission BBQ. Ordered by calling their catering number and specifying a pickup time on Wednesday. Pick up was easy and timely. The turkey breast and leg came with a pan, bag, and reheating instructions - the best options they said was to put the breast in the bag and cook in the oven for 2-2 1/2 hours. Ours took longer than that - probably closer to 3 - so just keep this in mind when preparing. We were staying at house rental, so I'm not sure how standard their oven is. The turkey was outstanding. Moist and flavorful - definitely had a strong smoked and spiced flavor on the skin. I did not pay attention to how many pounds we got, but we had enough for Thanksgiving and leftovers for multiple days for four of us. While I was there, I also picked up a ton of meat for us to eat for other meals around Thanksgiving since we were in town for a couple of days - pulled chicken, pork, sausage, and brisket. Brisket was a little dry, but all had great flavor. Our favorite was the chicken. Also got it with the cheesy potatoes, salad, and caramel apple cobbler. I would recommend all sides but the salad. Just iceburg lettuce with tomatoes, cucumber, and shredded carrots, a cheap salad at a hefty price in comparison to the other sides. read more

UM WOW. Visiting from Boston we were blown away. No frills amazing BBQ place - don't let the fact that it's in a shopping mall scare you. Loved the fast casual set up and open seating - kid friendly. My two year old LOVES bbq and it's something we lack here in Boston. This was our first stop after checking into the Gaylord resort - so close and I am still thinking of the food. You don't normally get a great review for many chain restaurants. This one, however, puts that idea to rest. The service was exceptional with a great welcome from the lovely lady at the cash register. I ordered the 2 meat lunch choice with pulled chicken and brisket. The chicken was very good, but the brisket was probably the best I have had and even better than the Kansas City Bbq I visited a couple of years back. The fresh cut french fries were exceptional as well and cooked perfectly. The cost was just above $18 and was a generous portion overall. If you aren't familiar with this place it's not a table service restaurant. That's not a bad thing, just pointing that out. From the moment we walked in the employees were friendly and helpful. They explained the menu as we had never been there. The tables had 6 different BBQ sauces to choose from. I ordered the brisket sandwich with Mac and Cheese as my side. Absolutely LOVE this place! It was a must that we ate here after returning to Nashville. Right when you walk in, you are immediately immersed in the deep smell of barbecue- in the best way possible! We had a great experience here! The staff was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about which items on their menu were gluten free when asked. When I asked about baby back vs spare ribs, I was even offered a sample! Can't beat that level of service! Everything we had was good here! It's what I expected for a BBQ chain restaurant. Brisket, Smoked Turkey, and Mac n Cheese were subpar. The meat servings were small and dry. Sauce, which they had an assortment of, was a necessity for the brisket. I did get a free bumper sticker though. Came here on a Saturday for dinner so we expected it to be busy. Surprisingly, it wasn't at all. Ordered our food & went to look for a table. There were plenty of empty tables throughout the entire restaurant, however most of them couldn't be used bc they were all still dirty & had food plates still there. What was interesting about this was that they had plenty of staff, just no one seemed too interested in actually working. Oh, Nashville... ever so slightly racist. I walked over from the Gaylord Opryland with my friend. It was completely empty, being a late lunch. While we were browsing the extensive overhead menu, the cashier asked if we were sisters because we both looked Asian. Anyways, she and the kitchen staff gave plenty of great suggestions for the best foods to order on our meat plate. We got brisket, pork, and ribs, with sides of mac & cheese and banana pudding. The meats were sooo juicy. It was necessary to douse everything with BBQ sauce, though I only enjoyed a few of the ones available on the table. Love that they had Texas, Kansas City, and so much more. The mac & cheese was intense. The house-made banana pudding was surprisingly my favorite part. Overall I thought it was a great restaurant, the perfect stop while shopping at the surrounding outlets. Fascinating and inspirational themed décor. Staff was super friendly. Yum! This place smells amazing right when you want in the door, you are greeted as you place your order at the counter (because of course the meat has to be smoked overnight the night before!). They have lots of delicious options, and to any reviewers who said the brisket was dry, did you get the lean version? Unless you have a gallbladder issue- never order brisket lean, it won't be juicy and tender! But I digress. I tried a pick three meat plate, it had the best pulled chicken I've ever eaten (and I've had it in 7 states), the jalapeño sausage was flavorful and not too spicy, and the brisket was positively perfect! They have BBQ sauces on the tables for you to try and use at will. My fiancé had the ribs and pulled pork, the ribs had a great dry rub and the pulled pork was the only thing I tried from them that I would give 4 out of 5 stars, the rest of the meat was 5/5. The Mac n cheese was ok, but the cheesy potatoes were really scrumptious! The whole interior is very fun while paying homage to the first responders and soldiers that make our lives possible! When we walked in and explained that it was our first time, the cashier (a male, I forgot to ask his name!) was kind enough to come from behind the counter & walk my family through the menu. Ate here before going to the Grand Ole Opry. The bbq was amazing. We had pork and brisket, green beans and french fries. The meat was tender and tasted great. 8-10 sauces were available to try. So the food was good. This is kinda like a Dickey's that you find in Texas or the west coast. We had the salad and then the meat plate. Got the brisket (it was a little too much fat for my liking), jalapeño cheddar sausage and pulled pork. We were meeting friends at Chuy's but it was really packed so we popped over to Mission for a quick bite. I couldn't decide between the creamed corn or the bread pudding and the cashier offered a sampling of both. Wow... really? Awesome! I ordered the kids rib plate and went with the bread pudding. The "mission" here is honoring vets, active duty, and first responders so my review is kinder than it might otherwise be for a chain. People here were the best (though we're finding awesome people everywhere we go in the Nashville area). These were some of the highest BBQ prices we found in the area and that may e attributed to its proximity to the Opry. The meat was good. Brisket & pulled pork were cooked well but just a bit blah. I'm not usually a heavy saucer but they a couple of their house made that livened up the meat. Sides stole the show. As locals we LOVE coming here during the week; however, it's a Saturday and while it was the busiest we'd ever seen it, they were as friendly and fast as possible! I realized I have never reviewed this spot we frequent. Their "mission" is to support our soldiers & first responders and the ambiance is really something to behold and appreciate, kind of like a museum or hall of fame honoring service workers. We really enjoy everything they offer. I love having the 6 different handcrafted sauces as options to mix and match and use as little or as much as you want, talk about some freedom! The smoky mtn one is hard to beat, I usually have a little of all of them but end up using it & the memphis belle the most! We often get brisket and pulled pork to split, this time we tried their new smoked oak wings and they were fire! perfectly tender inside, crisp outside with an oak flavor and a special white Alabama bbq sauce, highly recommend!! The mac 'n cheese is amazing with a crumbled crunch topping that adds to the flavor and I also think they have some of the best cornbread that comes with some entrees! Not sure why it's taken me this long to try Mission BBQ as often as I go to the Regal in Opry Mills and need food beforehand, but I'm glad I finally did. Probably my (sorry) 2nd favorite BBQ place in Nashville now (behind Peg Leg Porker). This place has a couple of convenience upgrades in its favor--always plenty of parking, looks to be plenty of space indoors at most times, and reasonable prices to boot. For our first visit, I tried the Brisket sandwich with collared greens and mac'n'cheese, my wife had the roasted turkey sandwich with fries. I added a rib to my order to try them as well. Both of our sandwiches were huge with meat literally falling off of every side. The brisket was great, flavorful and juicy. Some might find it a bit too saucy as it's bathed in BBQ sauce so if you want to savor the smoky flavor of the brisket itself you might want to request less sauce if that's an option, but it worked for me and was very good. Both sides I ordered were terrific--the mac was gooey and the greens phenomenal. Portion size for the sides is a bit smaller, but reasonable particularly for the price (less than $3 a side). The rib I ate was fantastic, literally fall off the bone and full of smoky flavor. Next time I'm back I'm going for a rack of them. The turkey is smoky and flavorful and not sauced, so you can try the great selection of sauces at the table. Fries were good but not super crispy (moderately crispy). Service was friendly and fast, we were in and out far quicker than I anticipated. read more
