"Whole Roasted" Duck & Wild Mushroom Risotto, Dried Wisconsin Cherry Gastrique

One of the best French restaurants in Boston. The roasted duck was really delicious, with crispy skin and tender meat inside. I also love the decoration of the restaurant. There are street parking and valet available.

Came here for a birthday dinner and it was fantastic--from the service to the dishes we got, just about everything was well thought out. The escargot in particular stood out to me, the sauce they make for this dish was immaculate. It's dimly lit inside and very romantic for a nice date night. We'd love to come back.

Came for an anniversary dinner and we leaned into the richer side of the menu and it did not disappoint! Highlights - escargot came out in a piping hot buttery garlic herb bath, the duck was a very generous portion with nice crispy skin on top of creamy mushroom risotto that was balanced with the sweetness of the cranberry gastrique, and the osso bucco had good depth of flavor that went nicely with the polenta - definitely don't forget the bone marrow! The foie gras parfait was good, but a bit cold and hard - it got better as it came to room temp. Drinks were mixed well but nothing to write home about. We were stuffed by the end, but they treated us to some anniversary sorbet which was a nice touch. Service was excellent and the ambiance was elegant, just a bit loud. Would return for a special occasion.

Everything was A-1 with my dinner here. It was packed on a Tuesday evening and very lively. Crab dumpling appetizer was delicious, and the pan-roasted halibut over saffron rice with mini-clams and calamari was perfection. The portions were just right -- the appetizer wasn't overly filling and the entree was substantial without being too much. Nice, citrusy cocktail and good wine list as well. The service was exactly as you would hope, keeping everything flowing smoothly and checking in just enough but not so often they were annoying. Would definitely return. The design is a little bland, and the light fixtures are those things with individual shades on the bulbs and many of them were askew, but your attention will rightfully stay on your plate most of the time.

We had a delightful evening dinner at Le Mistral. The ambiance is feutre and sophisticated with a candle light romantic touch. My lobster ravioli and rack of lamb from Colorado was extremely well executed. Frankly one of the best rack of lamb I ever had. Service was attentive and we had a great Barolo wine di Montelpuciano. Also love my improvised " Colonel with vodka and lemon sorbet. The profitero au chocolat are also very popular! You can sit at the bar without reservations. This restaurant is on the pricey side with a $95 for the rack of lamb....

Of course, I'm biased--we were in an especially good mood tonight celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. But the truth is, if this had been an ordinary Friday night at any point over the last 30 years, I would be writing the exact same thing. An amazing dinner. The professionalism, care, and culinary expertise at Mistral exceed expectations at every level. An outstanding cocktail and wine program perfectly complements a kitchen grounded in classic French technique. Ambiance is modern chic. Highlights included the escargot, salmon tartare, and a beautifully executed Dover sole. And the tart to finish? Absolutely unforgettable. If you've never been, go--soon. You don't know what you're missing.

Ok so this place has been around for a while but it has not gotten old at all. The packed dining room, amazing service, great food and excellent cocktails make this a wonderful place for an elevated night out. You won't regret going, just bring a credit card, friends and don't plan on going to bed early or waking up early either

Tonight my my husband and i went on a date. We were heated immediately at the door by someone that took our coats. We were seated. Our fuss came quickly. We were checked on often without it feeling overbearing. We ordered the scallop special, roasted duck, margarita pizza and the halibut dinner. Editing was flavorful. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived but increased in noise as time got closer to 8. Seating was tight but not enough for us to bump others. Great for a date night. We lucked out and found parking across the street.

Great meal, great ambiance, great service!! Went here tonight after viewing the Titanic exhibit down the street at Saunders castle. First time and five star experience! We just walked in and they seemed very busy and we weren't even sure if we'd get a table. But after a few minutes they said they had a table. Cozy couch seating on one end. Dim lighting gives it this intimate atmosphere and the interior is beautiful with the chandeliers all over. The complimentary bread is really fresh and quite a big some shaped loaf cut into wedges. Warm bread came with butter and a spread. Very good! The Maine crab ravioli was delicate and flavorful. The squash soup came with a puffed croissant like bread baked on top of the bowl. Looked very fancy! The soup itself along with this amazing bread tasted almost like dessert! Very rich and creamy. We were quite full just from the bread and appetizers, so when the entrees came we just ate a little. I ordered the salmon which was nice tender light flavorful and came with mushrooms and squash. The hubs ordered the beef tenderloin pizza which was a thin crust pizza and he liked it although he ate only two slices of the six. Lots of leftovers which the packed nicely in boxes and brought in a bag to go. Overall great experience!

The service was exceptional, but the food left something to be desired. Tucked away in a corner, unassuming entrance, Mistral provides an elegant ambiance when you enter the establishment. I would recommend this place if you enjoy French fare, it certainly does a good job.

Came here with a group of friends and got to try out a variety of dishes and dessert. Personal favorite dishes of mine were the maine crab ravioli (very light, to the point, oceaney, in a fresh in-season tomato juice broth), and the foie gras brioche with duck confit (awesome umami, great slap in the face flavors, and very comforting). For dessert, we had ordered the chocolate torte, creme brulee, blueberry tart, and lemon/mango sorbet. The desserts were all very solid but my personal favorite was the creme brulee (loved the custardy creamy richness, and the taste of real vanilla beans). Had a good time!

    Custom celebration menu!

Always an exceptional experience at Mistral, despite being open for so many years. But they really took it to the next level with our visit celebrating my wife's and my 20th anniversary. The food and service was exceptional as always. We got the foie gras and peach/goat cheese salad apps, with duck and salmon for mains. All delicious and perfectly timed delivery to the table. But what really made it was that every single server knew it was our anniversary. They wrote happy anniversary on our dessert (normal for good restaurants), but I was floored that they also printed it on our menus!! Never seen that before, and it was a touch going really above and beyond to make us feel special Awesome place, awesome night

Poached pair and goat cheese salad -- nice!

Our must order items from the menu include seared foie gras (5/5), duck magret a l'Orange (5/5), escargot (5/5), french onion soup (5/5, and steak tartare (4/5). I love using their bread to dip with the escargot and eat with the foie gras as they do not come with carbs. During my last visit, I tried the boneless short ribs Bourguignon, I felt like it was a bit dry. I loved the potato croquette that came with the dish though, creamy on the inside with a crispy exterior. The meat did not fall off and melt, maybe it was just that one day. I will stick to ordering duck as my entree as it has never failed us and the cook and flavors are also supreme. Creme brulee is always great to end the meal! The reviews looked good and I was excited to try their unique menu... well, let's just say we were very disappointed. First of all the prices are very expensive. I know this is Boston, but $17 for a cocktail is ridiculous! Our server was lovely, he was very kind and had a kind spirit. I was excited to try the "Rouleaux" since they remind me of the eggrolls, my mother learned from her Vietnamese mother-in-law. It was very crispy, which unfortunately is the only good thing I can say about it. The flavor was so off. It's almost as if the ingredients in the Rouleaux were loudly competing for my attention simultaneously! It didn't really melt in your mouth either, it just felt heavy. The other appetizer we ordered was called Dumplings croustillants au poet epics. This was actually worse than first appetizer. I like lemongrass, but MAN the lemongrass was so overpowering. I started to wonder... "is this how it's always made"?! I'm not even exaggerating. Overall, the atmosphere was nice - definitely pricey, and the food isn't worth the hype. Till next eats, SJ

The entree for mussels and fried pork spring rolls are great but nothing out of the ordinary. Finally, the desserts we got the chocolate truffle cake and that was rich but very delicious. But I personally like a lighter taste so the poached pear with raspberry sorbet was a nice touch to the end! I got inspired by watching youtube to make a jambon buerre sandwich - supposedly a popular quick sandwich for Parisians. The sandwich is half a baguette with butter and French bistro ham. I tried searching all over for the French bistro ham with no luck. The only options were online sources with expensive shipping and/or expensive minimum order sizes. Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.

The menu refers to these as "Greek cheese bread" but somehow that doesn't do it justice - these were immensely pillowy and cheesy, with an amazing crust, with homemade honey butter on the side. I could have had just these for dinner and been satisfied. They really nailed the bread. My other favorites: 1. Hipiti: spicy whipped feta with crispy potatoes on the side. I don't do well with spice but I absolutely loved this. 2. Marouli: winter lettuce with the most amazing vinaigrette dressing. My only knock to this is, presentation-wise, they serve it with half of the plate empty and the other half with salad. I don't understand why restaurants do this because - one, it only highlights the smaller portion and two, we're just going to mix the salad all around in the bowl anyway. 3. Boudeto: daily catch in a beautiful tomato broth. For a seafood dish at a restaurant in Back Bay, this was priced at a fairly reasonable $28. The only dish that fell a little flat for me was the tzatziki - needed a bit more seasoning. As it was, I was eating mostly just plain yogurt. The table-side preparation was cool, though. The space is its own visual dinner, there's simply a lot to look at (including a drawing of Poseidon riding a surf board). We got the big table in the back, which was a beautiful glass structure with a whole terrarium underneath. We couldn't stop marveling at it throughout the meal. Our waiter was wonderful - very helpful recommendations, came by to check on us often even though we were pretty far in the back, super patient with our questions. Hard to get reservations but worth it! Don't bother driving / trying to find parking unless you're willing to eat a hefty garage fee, it's Back Bay.

We ordered drinks--including a pear mocktail--but were brought the wrong ones, and then they attempted to charge us for those incorrect drinks. In hindsight, the cocktail mix-up should have been a warning of what was to come. The pear mocktail itself was also quite bad. The service felt chaotic throughout the night. We asked multiple times for additional servings of steak and fries, but were largely ignored. Meanwhile, nearby large tables were repeatedly served, cleared out entire trays, and still received more attention from staff. For an all-you-can-eat steak frites offering, we each received only one serving despite several requests. As for the food itself, it did not make up for the service. The steak was just okay--some pieces were chewy and overly fatty, though acceptable if refills had actually been provided. The fries, however, were terrible. Our first serving was so hard it was nearly inedible, and the only refill we received was just as bad. I also ordered the spinach risotto, which was slightly better than the steak, but it was so salty I couldn't finish it. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.
