    Beet salad with goat cheese
    Mike A.

My family and I have been eating at Mistral for over 30 years. Raul and his crew kept this restaurant consistently amazing throughout all these years. Some menu items changed along the way, but the core of Mistral and its signature dishes always stayed the same., so recently the restaurant was sold and it's now under new ownership, and I guess the new owners decided to make some changes. The interior dining area was updated with more comfortable and intimate booths, which look great and feel very comfortable. However, I was not prepared to the changes they've made to the menu. Let's start with the service. Almost all of the original staff, except one or two people, have been replaced by younger waiters (not necessarily better ones). Our waiter forgot to enter several of the appetizers we ordered which was not a a big deal, but unfortunately it was just the beginning of our disappointment. Mistral's French onion soup was always one of the best anywhere. It came burning hot, topped with crispy toasted bread and a lots of melted mozzarella cheese. And they have completely changed it. There is no melted cheese on top. Instead, you receive a small triangle of bread with cheese inside it. What? The soup was warm rather than hot, and the entire dish was nothing like the original soup. Another signature dish was Mistral's crispy skin branzino. They have now replaced it with poached branzino. Are you kidding me? You took one of your best dishes and turned it into something that tasted like hospital food. I'm not here to tell anyone how to run their business, but I'm here to say that if it isn't broken, don't fix it. If the new owners want to add their own touch, introduce new dishes like the hanger steak, which was excellent, but don't take signature dishes that loyal customers have enjoyed for decades and completely change them. Even the aupoivre sauce on the New York strip, which we have been eating for years and always tasted the same, has been changed (vinaigrette was added to it) and is simply not as good as it used to be. To summarize: - The Caesar salad was great. - The hanger steak was great. - The new cigars were horrible. - The French onion soup has been completely changed and not for the better. - The updated seasoning and sauce on the New York strip are not nearly as good as before. - The crispy skin branzino should never have been replaced with poached branzino. Overall, this was a disappointing visit. I sincerely hope this feedback does not fall on deaf ears. After 35 years of loyalty, we will give Mistral one more chance and hope things turn back around. Please bring back the original French onion soup. Please bring back the crispy skin branzino. And please remember: new does not always mean better.

We had a delightful Wednesday evening here. The place is very cozy and somewhat formal inside like a French brassiere. The biggest highlight was the super attentive service despite the World Cup match broadcasting between Mexico and Czech Republic in which 3 goals were scored. The French soup was bold and rich in flavor. Everyone enjoyed their entrees which were well flavored and savory. The desserts were made in house and tasted amazing.

Mistral refers to a strong, cold northwesterly wind that blows through the Rhône River Valley from southern France into the Mediterranean mainly in winter. There is a well worn, old school feel and look with wood paneling, glass chandeliers, touch of l'art deco. Nice little bar that stocks extensive liquor. 0) Feuilleté au Fromage: Amuse Bouche of a small cheese puff pastry 1) Jumbo Lump Crab Cake: Timbale of moist, fibrous crab meat bound with what may be mayonnaise and bread crumbs, then baked. Sauce seems to be Béchamel with a bit of Dijon mustard. Accompanied by al dente asparagus and ribbon of braised leeks. 2) Confit de Canard à l'Orange: Leg & thigh of duck cooked in its own juices to almost falling off the bone. Touch of Grand Marnier and orange juice is added to pan drippings of the duck to create the finishing sauce. Haricots Verts/green beans, Pommes Purées/mashed potatoes 1-2) Les Cadrans de Lassègue, Saint Émilion Grand Cru 2022: My guess is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot deep red wine with full blackberry, dark plum, blueberry. Bit of barnyard, humus, good acidity & touch of bitter tannins balanced by smooth sweetness. Since it rested only 3 years, the tannins haven't had time to mellow out more. 3) Soufflé au Chocolat: Because it was in a mini soufflé dish, the high heat penetrated more intensely to create a drier texture, more like a brownie. Very thick Crème Chantilly which added to the enjoyment. 3a) I asked if there were a Banyuls, a Southern French port like liqueur that pairs well with chocolate, but was suggested a Graham Tawny Port. Light, sprightly, sweet smooth with touch of dates, grape, alcohol, it paired well with the Soufflé. 4) Mignardise is a petit Chocolate Truffle. The food here is good, but you have to eat at the bar to be under the wing of Dana, bartender nonpareil. She is a seasoned veteran who knows her trade especially in how to treat customers. She is a natural being able to read customers and think proactively for a better customer experience. Kudos to her understated yet powerful performance beyond the call of duty. Overall, 4+ stars due to Dana's ministrations.

A classic that cannot be ignored. Came in for dessert and drinks. Dana makes a killer Manhattan and the cocktail program is very fun. The new owners pay homage to the og and make the necessary modest yet modern improvements. The soufflé was phenomenal, equal to or better than the P lounge. Think Paul Thomas Anderson, San Fernando valley 1970s vibes. Martini and fries.

Service is excellent but the food is no bueno. Their food is bland, no salt on any of our side dishes and that mashed potato is the worst we ever had. It was loud inside, you can hear everyone talking and tables are literally like one ft. away from each other. We heard a lot of great things about this restaurant but it's is nothing special.

Service was great, from valet parking to obtaining a table as a walk in group. We were lucky as we arrived during peek times of the day: lunch time. Staff was attentive often refilling our waters and checking in with us. I ordered the king salmon entree. It included a nice sized salmon the top layer of the salmon had a smoked crispy texture to it; it was amazing. It also had a side of mash potatoes broccoli and veggies. 5/5! I tried my friend's escargot and the sauce on top of it is "chef's kiss" delicious, rich like a pesto taste to it. 5/5 I would definitely get this appetizer next time. Also, the servings here are not your typical large dish; so FYI you may not get full. We ended well with the chocolate soufflé that had a side of whipped cream 5/5! This restaurant is definitely a fancy place and I highly suggest you book them for your next special event.

Mistral has been in Sherman Oaks for years and seems to be one of their staple restaurants so I was excited to try it. It's a tiny little spot with a very cozy darkly lit dining room with great ambiance. It's packed with people from the time they open for dinner until they close. The service is fantastic. From the moment we entered, until we left we were met with amazing hospitality. Our drinks were constantly full, fresh silverware was being brought out, and we were cracking jokes. Unfortunately that's where the positive review ends. The food left a lot to be desired, accompanied with high prices. We started with the French onion soup and escargot. Both were okay but not something I'd want again. For our entrees we got the pappardelle porcini mushroom pasta, New York steak, and panko crusted John Dory. I was only able to have a couple bites of the pasta before I had to stop because there was something off about the sauce and it left an extremely strong aftertaste. The New York came in a very thick cut that resembled a filet and was very tough. However, the fries that accompanied the steak was very good and tasted like McDonald fries. The fish was tasty due to the panko crust but overall dry. The only real winners were the chocolate soufflé and the crème brûlée we got for dessert.

Cute French restaurant. Great service. Dark romantic dining room. The outside seating looks nice too. All the food and drinks were fabulous. Had the lamb and duck confit.

Mistral serves some of the best french cuisine in LA, excellent service (Danny, our server, was awesome), classic decor, formal white table cloth but yet, the place feels casual and comfortable, we love it. 5 stars, highly recommended! You have to try the escargots, duck confit and chocolate soufflé!

Do they serve steak tartare at the lunch seating?

    Is there a corkage fee?

Yes, it's thirty dollars to my knowledge. I was there fairly recently. Enjoy Mistral! I recommend a wine there called Honig. It's about eighty dollars but drinks like a much more expensive wine. It's on their wine list.

Yah boy had been grinding all week at work and I felt like I needed to treat myself, so I ordered the boys Taco Bell from postmates, got them situated at the house and then I stepped out to grab me a steak. I had no clue where I was going, so I pulled over on the side of the street to see which steak place was open until 10pm because it was already like 8:40pm. Blvd closes at 10p on the weekends, so I shot to Sherman Oaks! I found parking across the street but they do offer valet but there was no need since metered street parking was free at that time. As I walked up, security opened the door for me, the hostess asked how many and took me to my table. The place was very nice with a huge bar in the middle. There was great music playing, which was 90's hip hop and some r&b. Apparently, the owner has a few famous hip hop artists investors and is a hip hop head himself. He also owns Taisho sushi restaurant across the street along with Anderson Paak (that's the word around town). Anyway, the place was very nice and classy! Definitely a grown folks vibe with hip millennials dressed nice at the bar and reciting the lyrics to the music and a few grooving to it as well. My waiter was great! He helped me decide on my order and I decided to go with a 6oz petite filet, the sautéed shrimp and the smashed broccoli. Everything was top notch! That steak was everything I could ask for and the bread and sauce together with the shrimp was that chef's kiss! I'm not going to lie, this place was so good that I told my wife about it and we went back two days later. With her we tried the meatballs, which were fire! We also got the wedge salad, which was good but the pancake croutons or whatever were a little weird and I got the same steak but with blue cheese crust and broccoli. We also got a few drinks (Peach Julep & Watermelon Margareta) and the butter cake with fresh strawberries and ice cream. All of which were amazing! We went all out! Our bill was crazy but it was well worth it just to get out and have a date night. I highly recommend this spot if you're looking to have a date night. We were going to hit a movie or go dancing after but we were way to tired after all of that lol. Def hit this spot up for good food and great service! We'll be back for sure! OOOOO 5 out of 5 Afros

Because of our schedules, we weren't able to make a reservation and ended up walking in, but we were seated within five minutes. Our server, John (I believe that was his name!), was absolutely superb and truly made the evening feel special. We were able to enjoy the Generous Pour, which was actually my second time doing it and my boyfriend's first. We both started with the wedge salad, followed by the 8 oz. filet with creamed spinach, brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. I added the Gorgonzola crust to my filet, and it was AMAZING. Everything was delicious, and being able to try the different wines throughout dinner made the experience even more enjoyable. Patrick, the manager, also came over to check on us and was absolutely wonderful. What really stood out to me, though, was the level of service from the entire team. From the hosts, to our server, to the back waiter, to management, every single person we encountered was phenomenal. We felt genuinely welcomed and taken care of throughout the entire evening. Although it didn't really necessarily show up as "the best food in LA area" but all the reviews were so good so I became curious to try. Mainly the reviews also raved about the vibes, services, and live music. Well, they were not wrong! It was fairly easy to make a reservation through Opentable, and I made a reservation for two people for my birthday dinner on Sunday night. I put on the notes that it's my bday so it'll be nice to get a nice table near the stage. I didn't have a high expectation, cos I'd never been to the place and I didn't make a call or anything. But wow, they definitely gave us a great table at the very front! As many reviewers had mentioned, the acoustic of the restaurant is really great. You can barely hear other people's conversations. There's a live jazz band playing, so you can really enjoy that. Although it made it slightly hard to hear what other nearby people say to you either, haha. Our server Dawson was a really great one! Very nice, very informative and just has a great vibe that made you feel comfortable to converse with him. We also asked if he could take a picture of us and he went above and beyond with taking our pictures haha. He took the table lamp as our additional "lighting". Such a great service! Dawson also made a few suggestions on food. We ordered the milk bun (so great!), the tiger prawns tostada (omg, my favorite of the night!), braised lamb pasta, pork belly risotto, and roasted broccolini. Everything was really good and really filled us up! We also got the "smokin old fashioned" and "Wake up and repeat" cocktails. It was plenty of food for us so we asked for a check. Dawson asked if we wanted a dessert but we were already full. He asked if it's ok to give us a lil treat for my bday. It was a really nice dessert :). Oh I forgot to mention that they also put a small bday card on the table for me. The prices of food and drinks are on the higher sides, but I feel like it's worth it due to the live music and the vibe. It easily covers the entertainment part. We definitely will go back and recommend this place for anyone who's looking into a nice date night or to celebrate something special. I was informed that Friday has more of a "party vibe" here, although it's still a jazz performance. Sunday feels more laid back :) Overall I'm really pleased by this place. I used to think that I don't care that much about excellent service as long as the food is great, but I was wrong. The excellent hospitality just made the night even better than expected. Thank you for making my bday dinner memorable.

We got the tiger prawns and it was presented as a toasta, which had a great flavor and texture. The apple salad was also refreshing and a good portion to share between 2 people. The broccolini was cooked perfectly and my favorite after the tiger prawns was the Dungeness crab pasta. It had uni on top! The crab cakes had a good amount of crab in them, which was really nice, but they definitely tasted under seasoned. The tuna on crispy rice was great though, topped with avocado and a spicy mayo. Nice crispiness on the outside, soft rice in the middle, good flavor, just a nice bite. For entrees we tried the chimichuri steak sandwich, the French dip and the lobster roll. The lobster roll looks the part but was light on the actual lobster, in our opinions. Felt the bread to everything else ratio was really off, so it feels like mostly bread with some lobster here and there. The chimichuri steak sandwich comes with arugula, gruyere, roasted peppers and grilled shallots and was a decent bite but not overly memorable. The French dip, on the other hand, was really tasty with that au jus and melted cheese. That was the real winner. Overall, nice ambiance, drinks were decent, some misses and some hits. If you go, definitely get the French dip and the tuna of sticky rice, slip that liner roll and the mini crab cakes and up to you on the chimichuri steak sandwich.

To begin, we were running late to our 8pm reservation. We did call ahead to let them know and the woman who answered the phone (didn't get her name) was very welcoming and accommodating We appreciated that. We were about 30 mins. late and upon arrival we were welcomed and seated immediately. We were seated in the back (I think it's the back) lol , near the kitchen area, in a more private section of the restaurant It was wonderful. the overall experience was a 10/10!!! However, I have to highlight the service that our waiter Paul gave us! WOW! You guys have a super star on your hands! From his warm, welcoming personality , to his witty remarks & stellar expertise on the menu and the different steak cuts you offer. Paul is truly a GEM! We truly enjoyed our experience last night! The entire vibe was through the roof for us! We also enjoyed the restaurant music, which in most establishments is not that great. So who ever was in charge of the music playlist last night, AWESOME JOB! To the Chef, everyone at the table throughly enjoyed our meals! the steaks were cooked perfectly & the sides were so delicious! I personally enjoyed the corn crème brulee. Only a genus could come up with that. We want to thank Steak 48 and most importantly Paul, for an outstanding job and amazing customer service! We can not wait to come back

I was also given a special hand-written card with well wishes for a very personal touch. The manager even stopped by our table to check how everything was. This is definitely the place to celebrate a special occasion or milestone. We had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and experience.

Very unique and delicious, highly recommend! Next we tried the taquitos, these were okay, a bit overly fried, but okay! Next we tried the Tinga tacos and we liked them, was expecting a lot more flavor from the chicken itself aside from the toppings! Had a glass of Rośe, it was good. Definitely coming back for the nachos and trying something outside of the Happy Hour menu which runs from 5pm-6:30, decent menu and options! Service was okay, ambiance was lively and happy!

Flavor wise delicious but definitely lacked any spiciness. Also appreciated getting a celebrity sighting! At first we were seated by the window but given the heat and lack of being able to feel the AC we were able to get moved to a different table which I greatly appreciated. I can't even describe all the food we got but my favorite for sure was the pulled beef taco, the chips and assortment of dips, and ahi tun. I absolutely will come back. I'd say desaert was my least favorite as the cake park of it was too dense for my liking. Parking was no sweat there is valley but costs a lot.

3/5-4 It's probably…read morea bit weird to write a review of a restuarant that is closing tomorrow, but I want to leave one for the historical record. Ah, Boneyard Bistro. You had a pretty good run for 20 years. You started my more elevated food journey when I discovered you on Chowhound many years ago. A few birthdays, a few events, many *interesting* date nights - a lot happened between us. And yes, it's kind of ironic that someone who hasn't regularly eaten meat since high school would've quasi-regularly patronized a BBQ-ish restaurant, but here we are. Ya'll should've kept the BBQ'ed Portobello, shrimp, and jackfruit options haha. I went with a friend yesterday one last time, and many are trying to get into their fond farewells as well - the bar seating filled up 15 minutes after they opened. Reservations were full as well most of the night - luckily, a cancellation opened up fairly fast. A bit disappointed that happy hour was discontinued in the final days. Started with a Cactus Cooler, one of Boneyard's standards - a welcome refreshment in this current heat wave. Since I still don't eat meat (guess it's kind of ironic not to eat BBQ at the final days of a BBQ eatery) I started off with the Fried Mac and Cheese bites, which I thought were supposed to have a sauce and Nashville hot seasoning? Was ok. I missed the mini corn muffins and bread they used to serve at the beginning of meals, so I order the skillet honey cornbread - had a melty crust, not bad. Ended a quiet note, but again, farewell to Boneyard Bistro, will be interested to see what comes next from Chef Aaron.

They have a great beer selection that compliments their bbq offerings. We went on Tequila Tuesday and I had the house margaritas with a tajin rim. They were good and well-balanced. We started with the housemade bbq chips that had a true bbq flavor with a hint of sweetness. They were somewhere between a thin and kettle chip. These were so good. There were a lot of interesting and unexpected choices on the menu. I had a hard time choosing but decided to stick with bbq since it's their specialty and it was a last visit. We both had combo meals. I had the baby back ribs and tri tip (medium rare) with broccolini. Ribs were tender and meaty. The tri tip was flavorful and done just right. The broccolini could have been a little less cooked, but was still good. My companion had the beef ribs, pulled pork and fried mac and cheese. I loved the char on the beef ribs. They were meaty and he wasn't even able to finish the last one. The fried mac and cheese had a crispy breaded coating that gave way to the creamy mac and cheese inside. So good. We sat at the bar rather than the tables and service was attentive and there when we needed it. The heavy pressed cloth napkins were a nice touch, especially when having ribs. And they provided packaged wet wipes. Wish I'd made the trek over the hill to visit this spot on a more regular basis and hope to find them in another incarnation in the future.

I think I…read morewas a little hesitant because I had never tried this style of Hawaiian cuisine before, but I'm so glad we finally came. The service was wonderful from start to finish. Everyone was attentive, friendly, and made us feel very welcome. To start I really loved the yellowtail crispy rice. It was one of the best versions I've ever had. The spicy yellowtail was perfectly seasoned, the crispy rice had the ideal texture, and the sauce, ikura, and finishing touches brought everything together beautifully. I also loved that they offered a 50/50 option with Spam crispy rice since that's my husband's favorite, so we both got exactly what we wanted. The tuna poki featured excellent quality fish, although the sauce wasn't my personal favorite. My husband absolutely loved it, though. The dumplings were another highlight and ended up being his favorite dish of the night. You could tell they were made fresh in-house, and the peas added a really nice balance. My only note was that the sauce leaned a little too heavily on the coconut flavor for my taste. For our entrée, we ordered the pan-fried snapper. I completely forgot to take a photo before we started serving ourselves, but it was beautifully cooked. It reminded me a bit of bronzino with its delicate, flaky texture. The fish itself was fantastic, although, similar to a few other dishes, the sauce wasn't quite what I'm used to. The warm rice pudding was also really tasty. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough actual rice pudding compared to all of the toppings because the flavor was so good. For reference, I'm someone who really doesn't enjoy Thai food, while my husband loves it. This isn't Thai food at all, but some of the sauces had coconut-forward flavor profiles that reminded me of flavors I typically don't gravitate toward. Even with that, I still genuinely enjoyed every dish we ordered, which says a lot about how well everything was prepared. There were dishes I'd absolutely order again, and others I'd probably swap out next time simply because there were so many interesting options on the menu. I also appreciated that the menu had plenty of seafood options, which was perfect since I've been trying to eat more fish. Everything we ordered was fresh and high quality. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. It's on the smaller side, but it feels cozy rather than cramped. I also think it's a great place to come with a group because the portions are perfect for sharing, making it easy to try a variety of dishes. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be back. Next time, I'd love to explore more of the menu because there were so many dishes that caught my eye.
