Wife and I went here for the first time a few nights ago after living down the street from them for 5 years. WOW. We were both upset and thrilled at the same time. Upset that we HAVEN'T been going here the past 5 years LOL. (Also upset we have been giving our money to a different and very pretentious French spot close by). Service was truly incredible. No egos or elitism. Bartender Dana was lovely and treated us SO well. The manager was so friendly and inviting. The service at the table was great, and the food was AMAZING. Escargot, the duck, and the John Dory were so so good. I am glad I had a piece of bread left over because it saved me from actually having to lick my plate in public hahaha This place checks both boxes! Great food & great service. Worth every penny. Celebrated our 39th Wedding Anniversary. We had an amazing dinner at Minstal. Our waiter was so attentive and helpful. My Cocktail was an elixir of happiness in my veins. AKA St. Germain elderflower and prosecco with a twist of lemon. We then started with king salmon sliced thin with toast points and cucumber rounds it had a sweet white sauce with dill. It tasted so fresh and divine. We shared the little gem salad with endive, pears and blue cheese. Joseph had Mussels in a white wine garlic cream sauce and pommes frit. So succulent. I had panko encrusted John Dory whitefish in a champagne vinegar sauce with asparagus and forbidden rice and it was so delicious!  It was a flavor thrill. read more

First, let me say that I really love this restaurant from its menu and ambience to its service... a true Gem in the valley. I have been 4 times since discovering it and having a wonderful experience on Valentine's day last year. Unfortunately, this year's Valentine's experience was far less enjoyable food-wise. This year, it was a prix fixe menu with very few options. I understand the intention of streamlining the kitchen for such a sold-out event however this year, although the food was good as usual, it honestly felt a lot like an airplane experience. "Do you want the Chicken, Beef, Fish or Pasta?" Almost nothing resembling the usual wonderful French menu. No soup, appetizers... nothing. Just a small portion each of ratatouille and potatoes "family style" for the table. The Tuna Crudo was sold out by 8:00 and the main dishes came out like they were assembled in a soup kitchen trying to feed hundreds of people. I'll definitely be back on a regular night. First time dining at Mistral! Came here for dinela cause the menu looked so good. I got the beet/orange/goat cheese salad, brisket with mashed potatoes and Brussels, and the chocolate mousse. My husband got the mussels with fries and an onion soup. I loved the salad so much! The brisket was good, a little fatty and there was too much sauce on the plate for my liking. But it was still tender and tasty! My husbands mussels were teeny tiny, and the broth was more like a butter sauce which was delicious to dip the bread in. Fries were perfectly crispy too. The onion soup was thick and cheesy just as you would expect. The chocolate mousse was perfection! For my husbands birthday they brought out a little crème brûlée with a candle in it which was appreciated. The crisp top of the crème brûlée was delicious, but the actual crème was a little on the thin side, I guess I'm used to having it a slightly more thick consistency. The service was phenomenal, very nice waiters and they kept coming over to fill our water glasses and give us fresh warm bread. Exactly the type of service you would expect from an upscale restaurant. We sat in the back patio which was a little loud and you could smell cigarettes from people smoking in the alley, but they had nice lighting and heaters available. The inside was definitely a vibe and would prefer to dine there next time. I would totally come back to try more items on the menu! Dear friends gifted us a gift certificate for Mistral for my birthday, we had been there before with them and I think it's one of the better places in the Valley. The ambiance and the service is excellent, the waiters and the bus staff are top notch. The food is very good quality and well presented. But to be honest my favorite thing was actually the french fries. The restaurant has been around a long time and has that wonderful classic old school charm, which I really love. Transported us back to Europe. The man who accepted the gift certificate, at the front, kind of gave us a little attitude about our using the gift certificate, which isn't what we would expect at such a fine restaurant. I must say though, the ambiance and waiters and bus staff were the highlight, very on point and kind. And the food is very good. Just felt disappointed by the man scrutinizing our lovely gift and their own certificate. read more

The hangar steak was bad meat, the waiter was clueless and the manager at first didn't take the bad meat off the check until we complained. Incredible. First things first, food was exceptional and every dish was on point! We visited with a party of 4 and between the four of us we managed to enjoy reasonable mix of items on the menu and having shared most of the items, I can confidently say it doesn't matter what you order, you'll be satisfied (side note on pricing, both food and wine menus are very very reasonably priced for such a sit down restaurant). As far as service, you can tell everyone works as a team! Very rare to come across down a days. Everyone is paying attention to every table, not like other places where servers concentrate on their tables and can care less what happens on other tables. Also, attention to details, to make sure everyone has a great experience was exceptional. At one point, a staff member approached to adjust our wobbling table, which was so little that we had not even noticed. These things are small and unnoticed gestures but must be pointed out to show that customers do appreciate and they do notice! The dining areas was very warm and welcoming. Tonight was my first time dining in but it won't be my last. I'm a big French Bistro fan and have been to most in town and would consider this one of the better ones. In the valley my favorite two are here and Petit Trois a few blocks away. The inside is well done and cozy, but not too crowded. Service was a bit slow tonight, but the meal was still very good overall. We started off with the Steak Tartare and it was great. A healthy sized portion with tons of flavor, and the toasted bread with it was very nice. Next we ordered the Tomato, Cucumber, & Sweet Onions and we really loved this dish. The tomatoes are always great in California and the lemon dressing was the perfect choice. For my entree I chose the John Dory, which was panko crusted and not a usual choice for me, but I did like it on this dish. It was another healthy sized portion, of fish this time, so overall I enjoyed how shareable and large each dish was. We had an event after dinner so we passed on the chocolate soufflé but I plan to order that next time. Overall it was a really delicious meal and I plan to return in the near future. read more

We came here on a whim on a random Thursday night and I think I just found my new favorite restaurant. The service was the best I've had in my 10+ years in LA, and the food was truly phenomenal. My hubby and I were craving good French food and found this place on Yelp. It was rated really well so we decided to come here. Made a reservation on Open Table. We were able to find street parking, but they do have valet available. Got there and checked in with the host, who was very friendly but a bit loud. He sat us and we looked over the menu to see what we wanted to order. It was dark and intimate with candles but I will say the big TV playing sports at the bar kinda ruins the ambiance. My hubby was looking over the wine menu but the reflection from the TV made it hard for him to see the menu. In the end we just ordered individual glasses of red and white. Our waiter was nice and friendly. We ordered the french onion soup to start, escargots and beef tartare to share, as well as the Mussels and duck confit as our mains. He asked if we wanted the chocolate Souffle as that took a while to prepare, so we said yes. Soup was delicious and came with bread to dip. I will say this was pretty heavy! The escargots, which we were most excited for were just ok, but beef tartare was tasty. The Mussells and Duck Confit were decent but lacked sauce. Chocolate Souffle came out and we were stuffed but it was nice. Overall it was a decent, slightly disappointing experience. read more

We went for dinner for the first time and absolutely love this place. Food is amazing, service is great, wine selection is great, and you feel like you're in Paris or New York with the cozy vibes of this restaurant. We had the escargot-best we've had since Paris. Chocolate soufflé is a must, and for entree's we tried the NY steak, pappardelle beef stroganoff, and branzino. The food beginning with the appetizers (escargot and the breads were wonderful! The portions are just right and it doesn't leave you wanting. The fries are to die for. Make sure to ask for them to be crispy. The fries taste like they have just the right amount of salt just before it gets to the "too salty" level. The ambiance of the restaurant is elegant without reaching the snooty level. It felt like you were in an elegant place. If you want amazing quality, French cuisine then Mistral is the place to go! Went on a late Friday night with a reservation. Great wine selection! We went with a bottle of the 2015 Margaux. We sat in the back patio that was well lit and quiet, very intimate. They give you a tasty cheese puff pastry to begin. Great way to start those taste buds off. The bread was a bit hard but some good butter always helps. Their escargot was great! Well cooked and very tasty. French fries were standard. For the mains we started with the Crisp Duck Confit, the orange sauce really paired well and those creamy mash potatoes with yummy Brussel sprouts! Then we had the lamb chops that were seasoned and cooked to perfection! Absolutely bone-licking good! Veggies were yummy and potatoes au gratin were standard. We ended with the angel hair pasta with shrimp because if you're full, there's always room for some good pasta :) we ended with their chocolate lava cake and we savored every last morsel. Overall it was a great experience. Only thing is it was a bit hard to communicate with the servers. We use to go to Mistral quite often before the Pandemic. We have forgotten how great the food is. We have also forgotten how noisy it gets too. It is still worth it not only the food but also the service is fantastic. I also liked that they give you a little breather in between courses. Service was attentive and friendly; unfortunately everything food wise was hovering well below par. The atmosphere is dark and moody, maybe European feeling until you notice the giant tv screen at the bar playing a Dodgers game. As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you notice everyone looks past 50 and heavily disfigured from plastic surgery. Food was uninspired completely all the way down to the ice cream on the dessert. Vanilla ice cream should be an easy win but it was the nail in the coffin for me. read more

Reservations are hard to get especially on the weekends but they are very accommodating. Owner is present everyday and makes sure that his business works like a very well oiled machine. Mistral is our number one choice for dining out for a variety of reasons... First of all... the food here is EXCEPTIONAL! ... which explains why making a reservation is best if you want to get a table. The service here is OUTSTANDING! The Ambiance in the main dining room feels like you are in a beautiful luxury restaurant in Paris. They also have an outdoor patio in the back that we have also enjoyed. The menu is a delight for the senses and while i have tried almost everything on it (because we come a lot) my personal favourites are #1 the John Dory & #2 the Brisket. Trust me.. I know you can get this in so many restaurants around LA, however, you have never had it like they prepare it.. it's off the chain good!!! The newest edition to this crown jewel is their private dining room! We hosted a large birthday dinner in there and everyone was blown away! We were able to play our own music as it is completely separate from the main restaurant so we had total privacy & we could laugh, dance, sing etc! What is also incredible is that despite the enormous popularity & success of Mistral, it's like coming to dine with friends/family in a place that is regularly frequented by celebs. The owner, Henri, is always warm & welcoming... as is Raul who also makes everyone feel special. Their love of what they do truly comes from the heart and you really do feel that. It would be one thing if there were new offerings to the menu but it is literally the exact same menu as before with everything costing an extra 20 dollars on top. The food was lackluster at best especially for the increased price, and service was absolutely horrendous. I've never seen a staff be so inattentive that they mixed sparkling and still water in a water cup, realize that they did so, and hope that no one noticed them. I am so throughly disappointed with the turn this restaurant has decided to take with cutting corners and hiking prices. read more

I'm absolutely blown away!! First of all, I worked in hospitality for many years, and the service here was top quality. The level of attentiveness, while never feeling overly invasive was perfection. Everyone was kind and made the night incredibly special. The atmosphere is perfect as well. The vibe is Gatsby classy, yet comfortable. I loved it. And now to the food and drinks... I had the French Onion Soup, Linguini with Clams, and we shared the Chocolate Soufflé. Everything was truly stunning! Even the blue cheese stuffed olives in my martini stood out in quality. Came here during the dine la week of September, they offer patio dine in. Found this gem and I had to try it out! Because of covid19 it's best to make a reservation! Parking : pretty hard to find since it was all street parking beware of parking in residential area they have signs saying don't park. This place is super cute and romantic! While looking at the menu they served us complementary cheese bread which came super hot, light and crispy followed with a hot French bread and butter. We decided to order 2 dine la and 2 plates from the regular menu and some appetizers. The dine la we got the tuna jumbo crab cake, risotto escargot, Lobster pappardelle, duo beef (filet mignon & braised short rib) follow by chocolate soufflé and coupe asterix desserts. We also got their special dine la drink st. Germain spritz for $11 From the regular menu we ordered fries, Moroccan cigars, crisp duck confit and grilled lamp chops. I learned and fell in love with The st. Germain spritz!! It was amazing! I have never tried it and definitely will always remember this! Appetizers : best ones were definitely the Moroccan cigars and the risotto escargot!! The cigars were so light and crispy dip with Greek yogurt (perfect pairing) and with a nice fresh salad. The risotto was soft and super flavorful! It wasn't too creamy and thick which I prefer and they had a bunch of mushrooms which I love and they were very generous with the escargot! Main dishes : best dish goes the garlic lamb chops and the duck confit!!! We got medium rare for the lamb chops and it was so juicy and tender with the garlic pairing by far the best ones I ever tasted in my life!! The duck was really delish as well, skin light and crispy, meat was very tender and best of all when dipped with the fig balsamic reduction sauce it was the best pairing, sweet and lightly salted is the best of both worlds! They were also very generous with the lobster in the lobster pappardelle, tender and juicy the pasta is a bit hard but flavor was great. The duo beef was great as well especially the filet mignon! It was juicy and tender. The braised short rib wasn't bad it melts in your mouth but it was too saucy and rich for me. All the sides that came with the entree was amazing love their simple veggies and potato au gratin ( not as creamy and heavy which I like!!) Dessert : chocolate soufflé was really soft but my favorite was the coupe asterix!! It's a really good quality vanilla bean ice cream drizzle with a really amazing liqueur that is like a hint of raspberry sweetness, not strong but still taste that there is some type of alcohol. The restaurant is adorable! Very unexpected and so pleasant. The indoor eating area is moody and great for a nice dinner and the outdoor patio is lovely, especially on a nice day. The service was impeccable! The servers work so great as a team and were kind, quick, & knowledgeable. Five stars for them! The food was only okay. We had the escargots appetizer (my first time and thought it was cool), bread was nice, NY steak garlic-parsley-butter + fries - cooked to a great medium and decent sear but not a lot of flavor, fries were nice and crispy. The duck confit was probably our favorite dish- crispy skin, succulent and juicy, the sauce was reminiscent of thanksgiving though and the Brussels and mash were bland. We were excited about going to a new restaurant for Valentine's dinner.We were promptly seated. The ambiance was crowded and loud. Our waiter came quickly to take our orders. We ordered the Tomato and Burrata, and the Tuna Tartar. When we got our appetizers, the Tomato and Burrata was good but the Tuna Tartar tasted fishy. My husband described it more like tuna salad. We returned it to get a crab cake which tasted good. For our main course I ordered the Coq Au Vin and my husband ordered the Duck Confit. Both were dried out like they had been sitting in the pass way too long. On top of that my husband had requested for asparagus instead of Brussels sprouts, but received the Brussels sprouts.For our dessert we ordered the Chocolate Soufflé, which they are known for. Once again it was overcooked and stuck to the cooking dish. The manager did check in with us and comped our dessert. Overall we were very disappointed with our food. read more

Been a regular for 20 years. The restaurant has recently changed hands. I can tell they really care about the restaurant in the way they want to run things now, but they don't care about the people who've been coming for 40 years and made it what it is. They changed the menu (fine), but they also changed the recipe to old items they did keep on the menu. It went from always have to order said item to never getting it again. It's been just ok the last several visits. It would be like buying a main staple like Musso & Franks in Hollywood and changing the way things are done and alienating the customers who helped make it a success for so many years. They probably should have kept what was on the menu as is and added their own flare to new items. Not taken things off the menu and changed the recipe to what was kept. Steak tartar was way over salted and inedible. French onion soup, same. Mussels were bland and uninteresting the last two attempts. Chicken had a new sauce that was unsavory at best. Never again with those four items. It's not a big menu so it really hamstrings "why" you would go in the first place. The last visit we had a reservation time and had to wait 25 extra minutes to be seated. No apologies and nothing offered. You went there to feel like you were welcomed as a friend and now you're just a person sitting at a table. I could go on with other gripes, but it's not worth getting more negative. If it weren't for the "old" staff and their OUTSTANDING and welcoming service, it would be a no for me. New owner makes no attempt at welcoming old customers (or new for that matter). None. Definitely a "my way is the only way" type of guy. As far as ambiance, I have found the music to be louder and more obnoxious lately. Not my personal favorite and I'm not that old. read more
