I visited the Potomac Founding Farmers restaurant after my gentleman had had a wonderful dining experience there several weeks ago without me. At his suggestion we decided to go there for breakfast, the same meal he had enjoyed there weeks back. For his dining experience he gave rave review of the food and the level of customer service. Well, I'm glad his dining experience was wonderful as mine with him yesterday left MUCH to be desired. For starters we ordered the Uncle Bucks Beignets. What I will say these were very good but, way too large an appetizer for only two people to share prior to their meals. My gentleman ordered the Founding Farmers breakfast and I ordered their Eggs Benedict with ham. What I can say about the food is...he ordered a sunny side up egg but what he got was undercooked and runny. It also came with what was described as a thick slice of ham but if what my gentleman had on his plate was supposed to be thick it fell way short of that description. It was, a thin slice of ham. The meal also came with toast and a fruit cup. Now he ordered some kind of apple bread toast but, the side that was not delivered face up on the plate was black and burned. Pretty terrible! As for his fruit... you could tell the actual fruit up had been made much earlier in the day as the fruit looked like it had been sitting out quite awhile. My Eggs Benedict is my favorite breakfast offering but the Eggs Benedict I received was pretty terrible. I got two very small round egg balls on top of a bed of thin sliced ham with sauce that had absolutely no taste whatsoever, it was definitely NOT a Hollandaise sauce. With my Eggs Benedict came some shredded breakfast potatoes. The potatoes were horrible. Raw cold and nasty shreds of potato that were only somewhat lightly browned. For drinks my gentleman ordered a Peach Bellini it, was horrible! I ordered their Chai tea... it tasted like dishwater! As for the restaurant itself we sat in their outside covered dining area... that was terrible! The sun came through the cover slats leaving the table area way too bright and made it so bright that my gentleman actually had to wear his cap and sunglasses all through the meal just to keep the Sun out of his eyes. As for comfort...they had the outdoor ceiling heaters on but the sun made it so hot shining through the above slats that it was hot and miserable. Not only was our table in the sun and hot but the table in front of us brought their poodle into the restaurant and it spent most of its time being quite the bother looking like it was desperately looking for a place to relieve itself. Why pray tell was a dog even allowed in the restaurant to start with????? As for service, this too left much to be desired. Two beverages arrived at two different times although ordered at the same time. The food took forever to get to the table and, when we were done it took us forever to get the check. After hearing so many people rave about this place it is doubtful I will be wanting to go back any time soon! In fact, I think I might have had a nicer dining experience at my local iHop! read more

Breakfast here was so yummy, I had to bring my boyfriend back for dinner. Breakfast was on point. However, dinner was lukewarm, and the hot dog was cold. That was very disappointing. Service is really great, though. Try the peach pie and ask for it warm. That shouldn't have been warm alongside the vanilla ice cream. Drinks are awesome. read more

Ok, so this is what I get when I give second chances even though I didn't want to come back after my first experience. Mind you, the DC location has absolutely nothing to do with this location. We were seated right away but took several mins to be acknowledged once we sat down.. and several more mins for them to take our order. My daughters ordered the French toast with bacon (no bacon/butter/syrup)....the French toasts came in large sticks... it was fried!!! Fried! They fried brioche bread! The custard on the inside was RAW. The water that came to our table, not one single ice cube, room temp. We each asked for a cup of ice, it's 4th of July.. it's hot outside at 11:30am. My other daughter ordered the steak and enchilada. They came back and said they ran out of the skirt steak (would we like to have a filet replace it).... Of course they charged us for it, asked for it to be medium.. came out bland and rare. The enchilada doesn't have in the description that it's stuffed with dry shredded chicken breast and no enchilada sauce. I ordered the Yankee pot roast.... I can tell they didn't use proper braiding techniques.. like searing... seasoning.... Deglazing... zero beef flavor or just flavor at all. The celery and carrot sticks (come on, cut them in bite sized pieces) you can tell were steamed separately and added at the end. They were still crunchy. Gross. The mashed potatoes tasted like elementary school cafeteria, no butter or heavy cream or even salt. This location is just terrible... a $100 meal and we didn't even want to-go boxes. The breakfast egg option is great for a quick. healthier, refreshing meal. I got the 2 eggs over easy with chicken sausage and multigrain bread with hash. Definitely one of the best array of breakfast foods I had. Everything tasted super clean and fresh which is hard to find. Usually I can tell when food feels rushed or overcooked, but the food all seemed very deliberate with a lot of care. read more

I've been to Founding Farmers several times now, and I have never been disappointed. I don't know where they find their servers, but the service alone deserves five stars. I ordered the iced chai latte with almond milk, but one of the servers came over to inform me that it's pre-made with whole milk. I am lactose intolerant so he saved me and the (would have been unfortunate) patrons around me a lot of suffering. He offered to switch it to a different latte where the non-dairy milk could be used, free of charge. I highly recommend the pancakes if you're going for brunch. They're light, fluffy and delicious--probably the best pancakes that I've ever had from a restaurant. The traditional egg's Benedict was also good. The hollandaise sauce was made really well. The chicken was seasoned well and super crispy. The waffles were okay, but I would substitute for the pancakes next time. I recommend making a reservation before you go because it was super busy for brunch on the weekend. Also, another pro is that there is plenty of parking and a garage nearby where the first two hours are free. read more

We went several times to the Founding Farmers on Pennsylvania Avenue and always had a good meal. We were excited when MoCo Founding Farmers opened in Rockville,MD because it's easier to access, but the food has been much lower quality. On our most recent visit, the service was also middling and it's unlikely that we'll go back. I hope the foggy bottom branch has not slipped as well. read more

This restaurant is pretty solid for American Food, and uses local resources to bring ingredients from farm to table. I really like the concept in general, but I wish the food could be better. I've been here twice, and there is constantly ups and downs with each experience. The first time, the server was not as attentive and I picked up the orange soda, but for some reason that one was not sweet at all? Kind of weird, especially since when I tried the seasonal soda at that time, it was sweetened. I did pick up the ribeye with sides of Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. Pretty solid and I would get this again - ribeye was flavorful and tender although a bit salty. Sides are sides - not too crazy about them but good. The second time, I went today in hopes of restaurant week. I found out that on weekends, it's brunch only and then dinner, despite the website saying that lunch is available starting at 11 am or later. Might want to communicate that more clearly... the server let me know but he was very accommodating and attentive overall. Even wrote on the check "hope you have a great day! :)" and I loved that! The guava soda was really good and the lime juice added a bit of sour contrast to the sweetness of the guava. The uncle buck's beignets were so-so, my first time having beignets but nothing to write about home. I feel like it was too sweet and not the healthiest option there. I picked up the eggs Benedict with traditional ham and hash browns on the side, and that was a solid option. Large entree, but the eggs benedict hollandaise could have a stronger flavor. I couldn't really taste the lemon or yolk. The ham was good and the hash browns was solid. Tl;Dr - solid option, depends on which dish you choose. I really enjoyed the ribeye for dinner, and the guava seasonal soda, but most of the brunch stuff was underwhelming in comparison to other places I've tried. Server also varies heavily, but the second time I went, my server was really really attentive and kind. I appreciate the positive experience overall. read more

The waiter was very nice, friendly, and personable, but he didn't understand the menu and got one dish described completely wrong. And then slow to come pick up the credit card. It's been 7 years since we've eaten at the MoCo Potomac "Founding Farmers" and the food sources and options are just as good and have changed over time. We spoke to several servers, who all knew, and seemed proud of their employers updates and options. We were served on their newish outdoor patio. We started with "Glazed Bacon Lollies" which are a delicious start for anyone who likes bacon. We then had one BLT, roasted turkey, and Avocado, and one Chicken with Waffles. Although we came for brunch, and prefer Reataurants would keep a few breakfast/brunch items with eggs available after 11... we still couldn't fault our meals or our service. Our waiter Logan was attentive and helpful, always telling us a little bit about the freshness of the ingredients we ordered, and any history of the unique flavorings in our meals and drinks. Food: -Yankee Pot Roast ($19.99) - I was debating between the chicken pot pie and pot roast and had asked Tyler which one was more popular. He said both were pretty equal, but said if I was hungry that the pot roast was heartier. I only recently discovered pot roast and loved it. I have been missing out my whole life. This was the fourth time I've eaten it within two months, but first time in a restaurant. It did not disappoint. -Uncle Buck's Beignets ($9.50) - Beignets came out warm and fresh with three sauces: raspberry, caramel, and chocolate. I liked the caramel and chocolate, but did not like the raspberry. -Farmhouse Platter - My friend ordered the platter and found the coleslaw bland and said that she's had better corn. The platter was hearty and she brought most of it home. Her husband tried the chili dog and said that the Chili was dry. -Garlic Black Peppered Wings - My friend bought wings to go for her husband. He said it was gamey and too garlicky. Service My friend had also ordered beignets to go and when another server brought out the wings, we thought Tyler had forgotten about our second order of beignets. He did not, he just brought them out later. Also we had asked Tyler for a box and thought he forgot, but he remembered. He was knowledgeable about the menu and helpful. Misc Notes: -Complimentary parking for first two hours in the garage. -Outdoor seating is available. -A 5% restaurant recovery charge is added to your bill. This is printed on the menu, which I apparently didn't see. -If you sit at a booth, watch your step as you go down. I forgot when we were leaving, and fell flat on my side. First time here again in years. Have to say I think the quality has declined some, not necessarily in the food ingredients, but overall experience. While I appreciate what they are going for everything is kinda bland. The deviled eggs tasted like they had simply mashed the egg yolks and piped them back in, not even detectable salt or pepper (let alone anything else). The fried chicken breading (for chicken and waffles) tasted only of black pepper, and the white gravy also lacked flavor. The restaurant itself did not seem to be kept very clean. The gaps in booths needed to be wiped out and the women's bathroom was in desperate need of cleaning. For the price point, location, and 'quality' they want you to expect today's experience was lack luster at best. Wanted to shower when I left. read more

I love founding farmers - their weekend brunch is fantastic! Unfortunately this location does not offer that but they do have the normal menu. The restaurant was a bit packed and service was slow the day we went. Inside the seating is very squished - which is different from their Tysons location.
