My husband and I went to MoCo Founding Farmer's for Valentines breakfast this morning and what a lovely time we had. When we first arrived, the manager expediently met my disability requirements, which is so appreciated. We shared the breakfast tacos and the chicken and waffles, both were excellent. Overall, I love founding farmers. I have definitely had some strange experiences here over the years (such as servers spilling entire drinks on member of my party and not offering a napkin). The happy hour is a great deal and one of my favorites in the area. The prices on the menu are not always the prices they charge you so it's important to be aware of this. Most recently I was charged 1.50 more for my entree than the menu stated. It's also important to note that they charge a 5% employee wellness and increased cost of business charge but it's stated in very small print at the bottom of the menu. The restaurant itself is quite loud, so it might not be the best for someone who is hard of hearing. read more

Founding Farmers consistently delivers delicious food. I have never been disappointed in what I have ordered. Always quick and friendly service. Great atmosphere as well. Went for brunch this time and ordered the Roasted Vegetable scramble with tomatoes and a farm salad on the side. The scramble was filled with veggies and it was well seasoned with a nice balance of flavors. Absolutely delicious. The beefsteak tomatoes were fresh and juicy, a nice pairing to the scramble. Good salad, simple but nice. My friend ordered the coconut chia and said it was light and delicious. The different notes of coconut, peanut butter, berries and apples made it a great brunch dish. Very busy area and hard to find parking sometimes. For the first time, I tried their butternut squash ravioli. It wasn't flavored much or I didn't taste much sweetness from the squash. It was just a bunch of butter and salt I saw and tasted under the ravioli. The veggies were drenched in butter and it had no flavor or depth to it. I had to personally add a lot of black pepper myself to season it a bit better. Their beignets tasted good along with their sauces and the service was fine. The restaurant has a nice setting and the outdoor sitting on their patio is very nice. Inside, however, the noise is terrible. The service is very good and fast. Perhaps too fast because the servers brought me the main course together with the appetizer - soup. The management here must train its servers to always ask customers whether they would like to eat first their first course (which they didn't do in my case) and, if so, act accordingly. As a result of this blunder, I had two plates sitting on the table in front of me. This required me to eat my appetizer very quickly, which I didn't like at all. The appetizer was Roasted Tomato Soup. It was OK but nothing to write home about. Before the soup, our table shared Smoked Salmon Farm Bread, which was very good. As a cocktail, I ordered "The Margarita." (Pay attention to the "The"!). It was the worst margarita I have ever tasted. As the main dish, I ordered the soup of the day. I do not now recall its name (partially because I couldn't understand all the words spoken by our waitress, who was very nice but spoke English with a very heavy accent, and partially because she did not give me copies of the bill, which is supposed to list the food items ordered, and the receipt, even though I pressed the correct button (Print) on the mobile credit card reader). What I do recall is that the server suggested - based on the chef's recommendation - that I order it in the Lemon Butter preparation style, which I did. This style includes two sides. This fish was the worst fish I have ever tasted. And so were its two sides. When the server came to our table to ask if everything was OK, I couldn't resist the urge to tell her what I thought about the fish (I spared her my thoughts about my cocktail). To her credit, she immediately offered to take away the fish and asked whether I would like to order something else instead. I ordered the reliable Shrimp and Grits, which was very good. But for this offer, I would have given this restaurant only one star. That, and also because my wife, who ordered the Blackened Chesapeake Wild Blue Catfish, said it was very tasty. In sum, I give this restaurant two and a half stars, but because I couldn't do that, I rounded it up to three stars (rather than going the other way) out of sheer generosity. read more

We ordered take out and got the Cheeseburger, the italian Sunday salad, Crazy Corn Chicken Salad. The sides we chose or purchased additionally were the Riced Cauliflower and Peas and Honeyscotch Carrots I thought all dishes were quite tasty (I didn't try the CC chicken salad) but definitely overpriced for what you got. None of them were special enough to justify the very high price and that's not even counting the 5% pandemic surcharge that the restaurant levies on top of everything. Somewhere I read that they source "most" of their ingredients from family farms. I don't know the exact definition of a "family farm", which could apply to very large-scale factory farms as well, if they're owned by a family/families. And, I'm not sure how "most" as in "most ingredients" is quantified. Another annoying thing: the burger included my choice of a "crop list" side. I selected the Riced Cauliflower and Peas and we also bought a separate side of the Honeyscotch Carrots. The included side came in a small container and it was around half full. The Honeyscotch carrots came in the same small container, but since we paid separately for it, it was totally full. The assumption we made is that since the Riced Cauliflower was the included side dish, they gave us less. Kind of low-grade if true. read more

Very well spoken and great service. sometimes it's annoying when servers come to check on the table every 5 seconds but Mario did a great job: came to greet us and take our drink orders, came to take our food orders a little later, checked on us after the food came out, and pleasantly closed our experience with a dessert menu and check. personally, I think this standard of service is perfect. I was disappointed by our dinner last night. Food was very good, as always. But there are two things that got me, and may lead me to consider not coming back. 1) The portions have gotten smaller. Shrinkflation, I suppose. In the past, a meal at Founding Farmers (entrees for each of us, and a couple shared appetizers) did not leave our family hungry. Last night, not the case. For $130+ for 4 people (all food plus one soda--no booze), we should not have been left hungry. 2) They now tack on a 5% "wellness" surcharge to your bill. This a junk charge, right up there with "resort fees" (hotels) and "fuel surcharges" (shipping). Charge the price you need to for the product--up front--and let's call it a day. But don't use these sneaky fees. This leaves bad taste (figuratively) in my mouth. read more

I'm a big fan of this whole "farm to table" philosophy. I see the execution with Founding Farmers; unfortunately, the food was mediocre and the service was lackluster. On a Friday evening, we were seated immediately. Our waiter mentioned the fish of the day as well as the drink specials. I ordered the crab cakes, and swapped out the spinach and fries for string beans and a vegetable medley. Mini had lobster macaroni and cheese, and JK had baby burgers, a chili hot dog and fried shrimp. The crab cakes were decent - little to no filler. The vegetables were great. Not mushy, cooked perfectly. I thought the macaroni was a bit too al dente; they could have been left in the boiling water for a little longer. I had a taste of the fried shrimp, and they were bland. A bit of seasoning on the shrimp or batter would have been nice. Service - our waiter forgot to put JK's order in for the chili hot dog. So, by the time it arrived, we were done with our meal. Further, the waiter did not ask how the baby burgers should be cooked, so they came out a bit rare. No bueno. We're not fans of rare meat by any means. We also asked for no mayo/sauce on the burgers, and guess what? The burgers came with mayo. These mishaps dampened our experience. All-in-all, Founding Farmers wasn't a hit for me, and I can't see this restaurant being in my frequent rotation. read more

The breakfast I had here was odd to say the least, it was started off with corn bread, full of corn pieces, it was good overall, the rest wasn't pleasant. Started with a ginger ale sort of drink, it was super potent, ginger was super strong. The grits had what looked to be corn in it, that was super crunchy. The "chicken" looked like If someone tore up one chicken strip and fried 4 pieces. Waffle was decent, but was cold. read more
