FOOD: 4 SERVICE: 5 AMBIANCE: 4 VALUE: 4 We came to SF for a recovery weekend. We found Modi on a restaurant reservation site, and we were intrigued by the ItMex fusion concept. Since we were staying in SOMA, it was about a 10 minutes walk from our hotel. The restaurant is under the Salesforce Park on the 2nd St side. They have indoor seating and an outside enclosed patio. We sat in the patio area, and being enclosed it was pleasant. There are heat lamp everywhere should the chill set in. Our waiter, Tomas, was friendly, warm and welcoming. And since it was our first visit, he recommended some of the best dishes on the menu. We took Tomas' recommendations and ordered: Chips & Basil Guacamole - freshly made guacamole with basil, served with homemade corn chips. Very crunchy chips made scooping up the guacamole a sensory pleasure. Birria Lasagna - lasagna made with layers of Birria beef instead of traditional ground beef. The beef was more like shredded beef. This is really more traditional Italian than than a fusion dish. Branzino Achiote Pesto Fusion - this was my wife's dish, a whole Branzino marinated 1/2 Achiote and 1/2 Pesto and grilled. The Achiote was the better tasting half, but the fish was a little dry and boney. What made Modi standout is the service. Our waters were constantly refilled. Tomas checked in with us several times. We will come back and try some of their other dishes.

I recently visited this fantastic restaurant at Salesforce with my best friend and colleagues. Despite the busy First Thursdays event, the lively atmosphere only enhanced the experience. We enjoyed lively conversations while savoring three appetizers and two main courses: squid ink spaghetti with clams and chorizo, and a delicious birria lasagna paired with poblano pizza topped with prosciutto. We wrapped up the evening sharing their signature churro tiramisu. The flavors were exceptional, showcasing a bold and well-executed fusion. The staff had a charming European flair that added to the ambiance. I highly recommend this restaurant for an unforgettable dining experience.

The Mexican-Italian fusion menu here is relatively creative, and while the dishes were pretty good overall, I didn't find any of them to be too memorable. There wasn't a single dish that I was clamoring to order again. The pork on the al pastor pizza was a bit dry, and I wish there had more of the green salsa drizzled on top. The birria lasagna was just average and the steak was a bit stringy. The outdoor patio setting was charming and atmospheric. The service was pretty good, though our waitress seemed a bit distracted.

Went with a group of 8. I was surprised to see that they had a group even bigger than that at an other table that they were able to accommodate for. Service was phenomenal despite the chaos of both tables. Our server was nice, funny, and very very efficient. Just for the service I would bring a big group here again. We for a bunch of food family style and this was the way to go. For the appetizer, everyone loved the cactus and the Cesar salad. Both were unique spin offs from their original dishes. The elotes were a close second. For entrees we got double of the lasagna and the ravioli. I think majority liked the lasagna best and couple of the people liked the ravioli better. The pizza diabla was not spicy alone, but it came with 3 side sauces and chili flakes that completed the dish. The sauces were delicious and hit the pizza home. For dessert we were disappointed with the tiramisu churro. The churro tasted like a regular churro. Not much tiramisu about it. However for a regular churro, it was good. Couple of people loved the mousse and the cheesecake was standard. I think this is a great place for appetizers and entrees. May want to get dessert elsewhere but this was not bad enough to knock off a star. One last thing. For a place this big and busy, I did find it odd that they only had 1 bathroom. It was an all gender bathroom so everyone used the same 1 bathroom, which created a decent line.

After two incredible visits (one for happy hour with the #YEShusband, and one for a team dinner), Modi has officially earned its spot in my regular rotation. Located on the street level of the Salesforce Transit Center, it offers a great covered patio and a cozy interior. On our first visit, we sat at the bar and went in knowing we would want to try a few unique items. The bartender, Jiro, was friendly and knowledgeable--he was also very accommodating when we asked him to put the Giants game on the TV. -Sueño De Amalfi (Tito's Vodka, Limoncello, Agave, Lime, Basil): Lemony and strong! This is a great starter drink since it's alcohol forward, and the flavors are all potent, -Dulce Vita (Yotobi Pina Mezcal, Passion Fruit, Aperol, Lime): The #YEShusband is a big passionfruit fan, and really enjoyed this one! The mezcal is a nice balance to the tart passionfruit and aperol. -Aperol Spritz: Refreshing! This was a perfect drink to sip while also enjoying the decadent food! -Chips & Salsa: complimentary; these were good and I really enjoyed the salsa verde. -Fresh Oysters (Daily selection of locally sourced oysters, served with house-made mango mezcal mignonette and watermelon sorbet): Exceptionally fresh. The mango mezcal mignonette and watermelon sorbet are creative, delicious pairings. Jiro gave us a side shot of mezcal which complemented the mignonette- perks of sitting at the bar! -Trompitos Al Pastor (Tender Wagyu beef in soft tortillas, topped with gorgonzola cream, arugula, and pickled red onions): So flavorful and tasty! I would have preferred if they layered the pineapple with the meat instead of one piece at the wide end of the skewer. Would still order again. -Tacos Lobster (Succulent lobster, creamy avocado, crisp slaw, lime crema, fresh cilantro, all wrapped in a warm tortilla): Worth the splurge. They don't skimp on the lobster, and the lime crema ties it all together perfectly. -Birria Lasagna (Layers of tender birria beef, traditional lasagna pasta, tomato sauce, and creamy béchamel, all baked with mozzarella): If you can only order one item, make this THE ONE. The birria is tender and packed with flavor; the pasta is on the thinner side, yet still keeps the dish together; and THE SAUCE...just go ahead and order extra and thank me later. -Churro Tiramisu: We don't usually order dessert, but glad that we ordered this! This is actually four small churros served over a whipped sweet cream. A perfect way to end our meal! Bringing a work group here was a total win. Tomas took excellent care of us, narrowing down the best dishes for the table. I went with the Birria Lasagna again (no regrets!) and the whole team left happy. Huge thanks to the staff for helping me score some major brownie points with my coworkers! Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Came here for lunch on a Saturday - definitely less busy than a weekday and we were seated right away. We started off with the guacamole, which was really good. It had flakes of Parmesan cheese, which was unique. I got the shrimp tacos, and wasn't too impressed. I think there were some sauces that weren't listed on the menu, and they were not very good. The shrimp was also kinda flavorless. I would definitely pass on the tacos here. The restaurant itself is spacious and really pretty, and the service was good. Overall a really unique cuisine and I would come back and try some of the other dishes!

Meh, it's decent. Ordered: Caesar salad, parmigiana nopales, chicken, churro tiramisu Pro: parmigiana nopales and salad were both rockstars!!!!! I loved every bite of the fresh salad. The parmigiana was an interesting take on eggplant parm, quite lovely but not sure I'd order it again but enjoyed something new. Cons: the chicken!!!!!! Dry as a bone and sooooo much lemon I puckered. The potatoes were excellent though. The bathroom gets an exceptional...exceptionally DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!! Legit, a well toilet would be cleaner. It's horrific. Interesting concept of Italian/chinese, not sure I'd hang again.

Came here for a work happy hour and this place is great and underrated. It is located right at the Salesforce Transit Center, which makes it super convenient and easy to get to, especially if you work nearby. I had the chance to try a variety of menu items and cocktails, and nothing disappointed. Everything was well executed and flavorful, and the drinks were just as solid as the food. I would definitely come back, whether for another happy hour or a casual night out.

Well it started off nice but Unfortunately, it ended up being a horrible way to start our evening. We had a 5:00 PM reservation, so the restaurant was not busy yet. The space itself is nice, and we were greeted warmly and seated outside. Our server was sweet and clearly trying his best, but he seemed completely lost. He didn't know the menu and had to repeatedly go back and ask another staff member questions. It looked like several employees were running around in circles, even though there were very few customers. The entire operation felt very disorganized. The appetizers and salads were actually good, which gave us hope. Our main dishes took about an hour to arrive and when they finally did, both the steak and chicken were cold. There's really no excuse for serving cold entrees after such a long wait. The flavors themselves were good, but that didn't make up for the temperature and the delay. We had a show at 7:00 PM and needed to leave by 6:30, so we ended up asking when our food would be coming. When it finally arrived we ate it without complaint since we were starving, on a tight schedule and of course we didn't want to ruin our own Valentine's Day, which also happened to be my birthday dinner. Because we realized how late it was, we asked for our dessert to go, which took another 10-15 minutes to sort out. Overall, the service was a complete mess. To be fair, I don't blame our waiter. He seemed kind and genuinely trying, but it honestly felt like he may have been thrown in that day and was still trying to figure everything out. Unfortunately, the experience put a damper on what should have been a special night.

This place is right under the Salesforce Park. It's decorated really nice inside. I went in the evening and the ambiance was really nice. There were white lights illuminating the place & nice tile tables. There was a huge tv where we were sitting that was showing places in Italy. Service was great. The serve complimentary chips & salsa. We ordered some of the dishes that the waiter recommended. I got the lasagna which was really good. The meat was more like pulled pork not the usual minced hamburger meat. I love a lot of sauce and this was just right. My friend had the fish. It was good but not as good as my lasagna. I didn't like it enough to where I would order it if I went again. I would recommend trying out this place!

I'll admit I was slightly skeptical coming in since it was Italian/Mexican and didn't know what to expect. I will say I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely come back to try more dishes. We got the ahi tostada, cauliflower al pastor, Birria Lasagna, and Churro Tiramisu. The winners were definitely the Birria Lasagna and Churro Tiramisu so don't skip on that. We sat indoors which I throughly enjoyed since it was warm and the ambiance was quite nice. Our waiter was great as well, he had helpful recommendations! The owner/manager was absolutely wonderful and checked in often (even gave the churro tiramisu on the house!!) With JPM happening, I was afraid of it being booked but we were able to walk in with no reservations and get a table immediately.

A bit more communication or accommodation would've been appreciated especially for a restaurant at this price point. that being said the standout crudo was the halibut aguachile. I think this was so fresh and the flavor combination is so unique with the sweetness of the stone fruit and the textures from the avocado and the hominy. the amberjack was also delicious too! it had a brightness from the citrus with the watermelon that stepped the dish up to the next level. the pastas were amazing! every pasta was cooked amazingly well and had an incredible bite you'd really only have with freshly made pasta. the orecchiette pesto was bright, not too oily and definitely surprised me as my favorite. the mafaldine cacio e pepe was a close second. the richness from the egg and spiciness of the fresh cracked black pepper was super, not to mention the pasta shape was so whimsical overall the food was spectacular. the dining experience leaves some to be desired. maybe not the best for large parties but for a date night or small party, this place could be a great choice

Amelia recommended one pasta dish per person in the party, to share family style (which ended up working well for us, since we also got three appetizers, and finished the meal with a small amount of yummy leftovers for tomorrow) so that's what we did, along with the starters... We got the "big juicy meatballs with tomato and pancetta," which were incredible; the bread was delicious and certainly is not just a side to the amazing (definitely juicy) herbed tender meatballs. I'd definitely get this again, along with the grilled zucchini with worm salt and mint, which was so flavorful and tasty. We also got the smokey romano beans with fire roasted tomato, which was also really good but just keep in mind the emphasis on the smokey flavor! It wasn't my cup of tea but that's for sure a personal thing. For pastas, I'd rank them in this order: 1. our favorite was today's lasagna du jour, which was mushroom! So delicious, with a crispy cheesy crust, soft tender interior, and an almost caramelized tomato sauce accompanying. 2. Reginette with pork sugo (meat sauce) and spicy turnip greens was next, which had wonderful flavor with the tomato-based sauce and pieces of pork but if you like it slightly softer texture it might not be for you (same with the fusilli; the go-to preparation is aldente!). 3. Fusilli alla vodka with tomato, calabrian chili, cream, basil, and added garlic butter shrimps; this one's sauce felt a little underwhelming and more watery than creamy, and I'm just now realizing that although the menu said four garlic butter shrimp (an extra $7), we only got three. I think I'd come back for the lasagna and/or to buy the pasta from their expansive stock, cook it a bit longer, and serve it covered in a decadent creamy sauce.

He even replaced my water and apologized after realizing he poured it to the brim, which really wasn't an issue but I appreciated his correction anyway. We ordered the side of wood grilled corn to start, I ordered the malfadine al limone pasta and my boyfriend ordered the spaghetti pomodoro. The wood grilled corn had a nice char to it and we enjoyed the accompanying sauce and cheese on top; however, based on the menu description I was expecting a little more of a Calabrian chili flavor / kick. The pomodoro was good but nothing to write home about, and the malfadine was a bit of a surprise / the highlight! I enjoyed the curly pasta texture and loved the lightness of the sauce paired with the salt flavor and complexity of the salmon roe on top. We love a good dessert but nothing caught our eye on the menu this time, as we don't prefer the soft, creamy desserts like panna cotta (as opposed to something more tangible like a cannoli). Lastly, we also had the following glasses of wine: Verdecchio, Verdeca, Montepulciano, and the Carignan Blend. As someone that loves crisp white wines with high acidity and minerality, I loved the Verdecchio. The Verdeca was refreshing but too light and not fruit forward enough for my preference. We both liked the Carignan, as we like deeper berry flavors, and the Montepulciano was OK (didn't love but didn't dislike). Would definitely love to come back and try some of the other wine varieties and menu options!

Amazing bartenders. They were so friendly, attentive, and personable. Many attendees said they came to the event particularly because they love Arcana. It's conveniently located near BART and multiple bus lines and some Lyft bike docks. I cannot recommend Arcana enough! It's great for date night, girls' night, corporate meetups, and more. It's welcoming and inclusive and the food and drinks are delicious and strong. Will be back!

Already reported to the Mayor's Office. Maybe I'll add BBB. Should be honest and equitable! Four out of 200+ reviews by me have been one star, so I rarely share negativity. It's all rather unfortunate as other visits here went off without an issue. I warned a group of four about all this while I waited out front, and after talking to the front door folks, they left and thanked me for the advice. Please be careful if you visit here. . . .
