The pretzel bagel...delicious! Thank me later! Everything is absolutely scrumptious and I love that it's a gluten-free paradise! The orange loaf is also so good! I have no complaints! Always great service and good vibes! I come back every time I touchdown in NYC, it's a must!

Did not even realize these bagels were gluten free, but this was a solid tuna bagel. There's a lot of seating but it does get packed at times and there's less seating for larger groups.

I've tried a lot of gluten-free bagels in NYC, and these are hands-down some of the best. Perfectly chewy, flavorful, and satisfying -- no weird texture or aftertaste like you get at other places. The Spicy Feta on an everything bagel was absolutely delicious. Spicy, savory, and packed with flavor -- a solid 10/10. The shop has a super friendly vibe, and the staff make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. There are tons of options beyond just bagels too -- sandwiches, pastries, and even donuts! I brought home two extra bagels and a gluten-free donut for the next day, and everything held up beautifully. The donut was a standout: soft, just the right amount of sweetness, and a really nice treat without being overly sugary. Highly recommend Modern Bagels to anyone -- gluten-free or not. You won't be disappointed!

Breakfast Grilled Cheese with Sesame Bagel (DF)

Holy moly I'm in gluten free heaven. I ordered the breakfast grilled cheese and I know New York is expensive but this was cheaper than another less yummy bagel sandwich I had the day before - this was $15ish dollars. I miss this bagel sandwich. It came out nice and hot with large amounts of the homemade onion jam (literally to die for... must be caramelized onions), whose sweeter notes complimented the savory and rich truffle aioli well. The cheddar blend was nice and melty and there was a lot of egg. I gobbled this down but also tried to savor it because so yummy. The sesame bagel itself was soft and didn't crumble. Not too chewy. Decent size. Was tasty for sure but with all the fix-ins I couldn't properly appreciate the bagel flavor. It did seem more moist than the Trader Joe's bagels I typically buy, which I like. There were some gluten free baked goods as well... we went back the next day for their cinnamon rolls and THIS WAS THE BEST CINNAMON ROLL IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I'm pretty excited about it as you can tell. It was so cinnamon-y and fluffy yet dense yet not heavy weighing you down. There was a good amount of the cream cheese frosting and some places skimp out on that. Every single bite was magical and that's hard to perfect. I also miss this. No picture because I was too excited to dive in... easily shared with another person. Heat it up for best yumminess. There are few tables inside and the place is always busy so unless you're lucky, you may have to walk and eat.

First thing the staff was very nice. The food was amazing. We bought a bunch of different sweet treats. Once we knew it was all Gluten Free that was it. The place was quiet everyone was enjoying the food and drinks. We will be ordering online to have the bagels shipped to our house. And will be back

This place is gluten free which is awesome. It has a long line so prepare to wait. The coffee I got here was ok, they were out of a few syrups but I got the lavender latte which did not have enough coffee in it, mostly lavender syrup. But the bagel sandwich was amazing, it was on an everything bagel with egg salad inside and it was delicious.

I very much appreciate a bagel shop and bakery that's dedicated gluten-free and with a good number of vegan options. They have one vegan bagel (the super seed one), and tofu cream cheese spread. There's a couple of vegan sandwich options and I went with the BEC (bacon, egg, and cheese) on the super seed bagel. Aside from the fact that it was nearly $15 when all was said and done, it was delicious, steaming hot, and very filling. So this isn't something that I would buy on a regular basis and only as an occasional splurge now and then, I appreciate having a solid meal option when I need one. I've also had the thin mint cookie that is one of their couple of vegan baked goods, and that was delicious. I think there's also a zucchini muffin that's vegan? Definitely want to try one of those next time I'm in the area.

Im not a bagel person, but had to try one while in NYC right?! This place had good reviews, based on yelper recommendations I ordered: everything bagel, toasted, cream cheese w Chives, smoked salmon, arugula, capers & iced late. The bagel was everything I dreamed off, i meant to only have half, but i finished the whole thing. That good!! The coffee not so much, i should have skipped it..

A CELIAC'S DREAM!!! All the baked goods are gluten free (well the whole place is)!! We got a plain bagel with cream cheese and lox! The bagel was near perfect with its crusty outside and fluffy inside!! We also got an affogato donut and a chocolate sufganiyot! The affogato was a bit under flavored (in terms of coffee) but had a great creamy filling/texture! The chocolate sufganiyot was a perfect fluff donut with a sugary chocolately filling!! The staff were super nice and patient but the restaurant was a bit small so there were no tables available.

Modern Bread and Bagel was our first stop on a recent trip to New York. The service is friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. We got a plain bagel with lox and cream cheese. Probably the best gluten free bagel I've ever had. It tasted like an actual bagel. We also got a chocolate sufganiyot and an affogato donut. But we're absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, the tables were all taken, so we found another place to eat. Definitely a place to go if you're celiac or eat gluten free!

This place is a dream come true for a celiac person, and still an incredible bagel place for anyone else. My friend who is not GF thought the bagel was to die for! I got the sweet Billy bagel sandwich on an everything bagel and it was everything I've ever wanted in a bagel. The lemon poppy seed cake was also delicious! can't wait to come back here sometime!

The arancini was a standout: perfectly crisp on the outside, creamy inside, and served with a rich, delicious sauce that tied it all together. We ended on the tiramisu, which was absolutely worth saving room. It was light, flavorful, and a perfect finish to the meal. What really elevated the experience, though, was the staff. Everyone was genuinely kind and helpful--especially notable for New York--and it made the whole evening feel relaxed and welcoming. A small heads-up: it's a bit tricky to find, so give yourself extra time. That said, the hidden, underground subway setting is part of the charm and makes the whole experience feel unique. I'd love to see more restaurants creatively use these kinds of spaces in the future.

To start with the good: the arancini were perfectly passable, and the Sicilian pie was enjoyed by all. I would describe it as more of a Detroit style actually, with a super crispy crust and nice textural contrast. On the other hand, we did not enjoy the seasonal vegetable pie or the nepo pie. I generally really like this sort of no-cheese, umami-heavy pizza, but the nepo was so salty! I'm not sure what specific ingredient was missing, but missing it was. My hopes for a recreation of the rossa pie I enjoyed at Farina prior to their closure were dashed. As for the vegetable pie, the vegetables tasted like the frozen veggies one might find in what was once marketed as a "TV dinner". It was a shame, since the sauce of the white pie was otherwise pretty good.

Not as good as the one I sampled in Copenhagen, Denmark. But it's worthy of your time and curiosity. Their sugar twist would pair nicely with a black coffee.
