I have dined 2 x within 10 days there. I love the place but have been challenged with several issues lately at the restaurant. We were seated and greeted quickly with reservations. our last visit we were put on the Red room dining where a flickering ceiling light disturbed our dinner. I recommend they cover the Rear service door with a decorative petition, so staff doesn't disturb customers sitting at the nearby table. Further, no service for almost 15 minutes while sitting at our table. The food was good - I recommend the chef tries the onion rings as they were disgusting. I have a few recommendations for the ownership. 1. If the waiter is buried and tells us he is working on both sides of the dining rooms - That isn't something a customer wants to hear. We heard that both times! 2. I would hold off serving the bread served at the table. Free or not, It was not good. just like the onion rings. 3. If the Waiter is busy why doesn't some of the other employees' hostess / Manager/ Owner pitch in and take drink orders and fill glasses with water? Any attention to customers would be appreciated.. 4. The Mangement puts too much pressure on the Waiter to do everything everywhere. No teamwork ... while we were waiting for the waiter other employees were looking at their phones and talking. 5. We will give Modern Chop a hold for now until we return if we do ... 6. Overall disappointing Pros: * steak was well-blackened, tender & tasty. * Service was decent * Salmon was cooked perfectly Cons: * not offered bread even though other tables had it * they were out of porterhouse steak by the time we're seated at 6:30 * the rice with the steak was sticky like sushi rice * the "onion soup" was bland with a piece of bread with cheese on top * no water refills * house salad had mixed greens with little else (we found a slice of tomato). * The salad dressing came in espresso cup because server said that's all they had. * the Roast Beet & Goat Cheese Salad did NOT have roast beets but canned & little else (a couple crumbles of goat cheese, one bit of apple & a couple nuggets of walnuts) Unimpressed. Shrimp and crab risotto 7 due to too lemony, chicken pasta, the chicken seemed to be a pre cooked chicken and pasta was mushy, prime rib special friend could hardly eat it, surprised he didn't send it back. Looked like 8oz hamburger patties. Flat & perfectly round. All were exactly the same which leads me to believe the steaks are mass produced. No flavor at all. Definitely not prime. We visited for a birthday celebration . The service was excellent and the ambiance was all you'd expect from a higher end steakhouse . I ordered the large porterhouse and my wife ordered the sirloin . The presentation was wonderful . Her steak was good , not worth the price however. It was cooked to order but had bad some tough lines in it . The side dishes were tasty but not very much in quantity . My porterhouse was fine but a lot of fat, so much about half of the steak was not good. Will I return ? No. It will be a one and done experience . Been there, experienced it. I gave 3 stars because it was a mid experience. Not impressed but also not very disappointed. Our bill was over $600 and for this I was hoping for the "wow" thing . Ventured down to West Bradenton for dinner here along with some friends visiting from South Florida, hoping to treat them to a chic, upscale dining experience. Unfortunately, our visit fell a little short of expectations. I'll start with the good stuff. Modern Chop Steakhouse aims for a sleek, contemporary style with its design and furnishings, and for the most part it succeeds. It's comfortable, quiet, and a good spot for an intimate dinner or a business lunch. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the bartenders are skilled -- our group ordered a number of the craft cocktails to try and all came beautifully. Favorites were the Smoked Manhattans, Strawberry Fields martini, and Chocolate Raspberry Truffletini. Where Modern Chop fell short for us was our food. Steaks and choice cuts take up quite a bit of real estate on their menu -- its clear they want their meats to be their signature, and while the filet and ribeye Mel and I had were served at the right temperature and were presented well, there was nothing distinctive or memorable about their flavor or seasoning. It's just "good", and for what they're charging, that's not good enough. That said, there's a lot of ambition in what Modern Chop is trying to create, and I'd be interested to see if down the line they're able to accomplish it. My family and I (5 adults) went to Modern Chop on Christmas Eve, we had an early reservation so it was not too busy. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful and he did a wonderful job. The restaurant itself was clean and decorated simply which was perfect. My only complaint would be that the booth style seating along the wall was very uncomfortable as the table was too low in relation to the height of the booth, both my sister and I felt that way. Now the food, incredibly disappointing. Based on the reviews I had high hopes. Visiting from out of state, I had to rely on reviews when deciding where to dine for the occasion. My sister had shrimp skewers and stated they were very fishy smelling and tasting, they had an odd texture where you had to fight to get them off the skewer. Her fiancé who eats anything even tried the shrimp skewers and wouldn't eat them. He had the Maple Bacon Salmon which he ate and said it was okay, but then had terrible indigestion and felt nauseous that evening and the next day. My dad had a special (Chilean sea bass I believe) and he did love his meal. I had the filet mignon with the Bearnaise sauce and saffron risotto. I requested it to be medium well based on the Wellness Guide on the menu "thin line of pink", it was very well done but as I normally do not mind that I did not return it to the kitchen. However, as I was eating it, it felt as if it was becoming more and more dry. I was drenching it in the Bearnaise sauce to make it malleable. The risotto was okay, but nothing special, I didn't taste or smell any indication of the saffron. My mom ordered a filet medium "hot pink center" with mashed potatoes. It came out without a bit of pink so she sent it back to the kitchen. While eating she had some of the mashed potatoes and I did as well. They were extremely dry. Once her new steak was brought out it was still not medium "hot pink center" but more like a medium well "thin line of pink". But she ate it, it was dry also. Neither her or myself had ever had a filet so dry. It was overall a disappointing meal to say the least. I finally stopped trying to eat mine and ate some of the delicious bread that was served after we were seated. So to recap, of five meals, only one was enjoyed, the Bearnaise sauce was very tasty, and the creme brûlée for dessert was delicious. If you take the time to have a steak wellness guide on your menu, cook the steaks to the requested temperature, you may want to reconsider where you get the shrimp from, add saffron to a risotto you call saffron risotto so it tastes as such, and don't be afraid to use some butter/milk/cream in those mashed potatoes, my goodness. The two guests that just moved to the area won't be returning to say the least. read more

Sounds weird but wait til you taste that hidden pop Burst of fresh lemon on your pallet. With a reservation made months ago, we were seated 25 minutes late. Waiting at the bar it took 20 minutes to get a drink. The chairs at our table were torn and too low for the table. The food was mediocre, especially for the price. The waiter never came back to ask how the meal was. Do not order Osco buccaneers- very dry. Pork chop also mediocre, Brussels sprouts horrible. First off I'd like to say that the service in this place was outstanding! Nothing against the wait staff! Bread rolls were cold and stale. I swear the butter was the saltiest damn thing I ever put in my mouth and I once ate a handful of salt! (If you get the reference good on you!) Modern Chop House? The salad was hardly chopped. The lettuce was so big it was difficult to eat. Also, who needs an entire bag of salad? Can you say Kraft ranch dressing!? The "beef tartar" was subpar. It was like eating ground chuck instead of steak. I've definitely had better. The creme brûlée was overdone and bland. A good creme brûlée is usually mild in its flavors, but this one was especially bland. The cappuccino and coffee were clearly cheap Nescafé instant coffee flavor. They didn't even have fresh coffee beans. The steaks were done well but the cuts were mediocre. I've gotten better cuts of filets from Kroger and Publix. The mushroom sauce was bland and the flour used to make the gravy/sauce was still raw. They claimed us was a sherry sauce but it was more like a brown gravy. The Kahula mousse was very good. Overall the food was mediocre. I don't think I would return to this place. Things I would change: I would serve smaller portions, work on the flavors and use less pre-made or packaged ingredients. I Had the hanger steak this was just after the hurricane however there's absolutely no excuse for serving raw food. Place was open people, were eating and enjoying their meals and they bring me out the hanger steak that I asked for medium rare -and it was not even the slightest bit cooked. Now it's one thing to not know that when your steak is intact, but they clearly cut it. It is cut into pieces before it served to you. There's no possible way that you could not tell that this was rarer than rare. Let's add to that that the rice was hard and dry and all I pretty much ate was the asparagus. I sent the state back. They brought it back out maybe a minute and a half later just as rare as it was the first time I don't even think they moved it around on the plate - I didn't wanna make a scene so i took a box thinking I would heat the steak up at home forgetting that we were out of power so I ended up leaving it on the table my BF did not eat his steak either he said it was awful , I don't know what happened folks but really disappointing after suffering days without power, no cooked food, exhausted and we just wanted an hour to relax and have a good meal. The waiter Alex was really goos. Most of everyone's food was great, I tried theirs. I got a porterhouse. Mine was not edible between fat grain and grizzle. I took it home and my Husband, who also had a porterhouse stated I got a reject ... the dog refused it also.we got wine- great bottle but selection was lacking and first two choices were unavailable . The shrimp and the crab cakes were excellent. I got the ponzu filet skewers- the mushrooms and onions were undercooked - the sides were great - along with the desserts - we were accident charged so we got them- great key lime pie and cheese cake because we had already settled the bill- 600 for for people 720 with tip. Excellent dinner at local steakhouse! Friends had the NY Strip and Ribeye, I had delicious honey bacon crusted salmon w generous house salad and broccoli. My friend ordered side wedge salad and enough portions for 2-3 servings! Everything was excellent and service spot on. We were disappointed that the mussels are off the menu though - but after speaking to the manager likely was because of market price. Last night was my second visit to the Modern Chop in a month. I was disappointed the first time but have learned that sometimes restaurants need a second chance - they won't get a third. I ordered the small filet. It comes with two sides. The side offerings were vegetables with fancy names - my salad was an extra $4.00. The salad came and was a generous portion of spring mix, two cherry tomatoes cut in half and 3 slices of cucumber - not a drop of lettuce of any type. I like greens but a plate of nothing by spring mix... Because I enjoy a good sauce with my steak I ordered their cognac peppercorn. It was watery - not the typical sauce served with beef. Last time I ordered mushrooms with sherry - the mushrooms were so large a companion choked on a mushroom - again watery and not terribly flavorful - couldn't taste any sherry. My steak arrived. It was so dry that the plate didn't have any steak juice and required that I drink water after each bite. While they don't "season" the steak with anything but salt/pepper it was practically tasteless. The unappealing grey color should have been a clue that the meat wasn't going to be what I expected of a $34 steak. It was not cooked as I order it - partially because the cut was sufficiently smaller on one end and that end cooked to medium/medium well while the larger end was more medium (I ordered medium rare). The side of a baked potato was a typical medium sized potato - nothing on the skin and cool enough so the butter that was brought on the side had to be "mixed" with the potato - no melting the butter. Their prices are about $10-15 more than Outback and Outbacks steaks have it hands down on Modern Chop. I understood that the owners were trying to compete with Bern's in Tampa - I almost choked writing that - NOT! So if you're looking for an expensive "craft cocktail" - they don't have Southern Comfort - (raspberry lemon drop was $11) and will settle for what I consider less than mediocre Modern Chop is the newest "steak house." They cannot compete with Hyde Park, Flemings or Ruth Chris - I LOVE a good steak - you won't get one here. When I complained to the waitress as she took away about 1/3 of my uneaten steak she sorta sighed - customer service is also not at the top of the game either. read more

Went back earlier this week to celebrate moving here 16 years ago and had a disappointing experience: Our server Kimberly was fun and high-energy, no problem there. When we ordered, we made it very clear that my wife's steak needed to be rare. Unfortunately, while it had a nice flavoring and sear it was clearly medium-rare and had to be sent back. The kitchen sent Kim back with a story about it having been a "cheap cut of meat that really can't be cooked rare" (???) The next steak had hardly any sear and was cold in the center. In frustration, my wife asked for a takeout box, saying she'd cook it properly at home. The GM, Jason Lette, then appeared - not to apologize but to dispute the level of doneness, claiming the first steak had an internal temperature of 90 degrees and that he checked the second one himself at 50. This was truly ridiculous - the guy has no people skills - and neither U.S. nor Florida law allow steak to be served to a table at an internal temp of less than 115 degrees, which is a perfect rare. I finally had to ask him to go away. I finished my chop, ​we passed on dessert, tipped Kim 20%, took our takeout steak and left - probably won't be back. Modern chophouse. I see divided opinions so here's my honest review. It's a nice venue for Bradenton. Presentation is nice and it's a nice vibe as you walk in. The walkway is somewhat awkward if you have any kind of wait as there isn't really anywhere to stand or sit. The attentiveness of the hostess was pretty good though and I didn't mind too much waiting. With recommendation, I tried the charcuterie board, crab bisque, and tuna tower. The meat on the charcuterie were nice and the cheese was good. I definitely like a board to have some other variations of items to help cleanse the palate between certain bites so I think a few additions would make it a super solid appetizer. The bisque, I wasn't a fan. Not sure what I'd recommend personally. The tuna tower had a good presentation but lacked in flavor. Could use some cucumber and or mango for texture, and the tuna could use sesame oil/soy sauce/and or some light sriracha. Could be a personal choice but I don't think anyone would be upset at the light additions For my entree. I ordered the 26oz bone in ribeye. I immediately noticed the same things I've been told about which is the steaks come out slightly over temperature and extremely light seasoning. I did get a few nice bites in... but the steak is either sliced uneven or the heat is off to a side as the whole outer section was highly cooked. I believe from eating the steak, the target audience seems to be an older clientele who aren't wanting much salt and like their steaks a little more cooked than pink. I definitely understand the recommendation for the peppercorn sauce as that would've helped out with some of the bites. I do think this is an easy fix of lighter heat and some nice salted butter/rosemary drizzle over the top or even some nice thick salt. My cauliflower risotto was super fire, thank you to our server for the recommendation. I could eat that a lot. The broccolini with some light truffle oil worked out nice. Kalibear passed on the dessert and I don't do that many sweets even though I did want to try the crème brûlée which was coming out looking really good. The drinks coming out also looked really good and I can see this being a great place to stop at and get some nice mixed drinks and some small bites. Service was great and we were happy with the repore and attentiveness. I'm not giving an actual number rating as I would like to give it another shot with a few ideas in mind as far as what would be simple improvement hacks i can apply. As well as the fact we are talking a steakhouse in Bradenton that is priced fair for what you're ordering. All in all, we had a pretty decent experience. Had dinner here a few nights ago and we will be back. We were seated immediately even though many were waiting (we had a reservation and were on time). Our server was fast, food came out quickly and was removed just as fast. I don't want it to seem as if we were rushed..... we weren't. At no time did I feel rushed. Everything was right on time. Pair that with delicious food, well prepared and well priced ( lower than pubs and other restaurants in the downtown area) and you have a home run! It was bustling and the vibe was good.
