A good sandwich starts with the bread and the Italian bread here sucksss. No flavor , no crunch , no nothing. If bread could fight it would sooo fight this no flavor , bland bread. The customer service was dreadful. Cashier was short and not helpful. A hello , looking at customers while they order or ask for sides goes a long way. I've gone to Modicas a few times and it has some great things going for it like location, menu variety, and drinks. They have nice outdoor and spacious indoor seating. The food is good; however, i wouldnt say it's exceptional. For example, i got this sausage on roll with marinara sauce and it's not inexpensive. That's all you get, sausage (that isn't all that juicy to be honest), bread and sauce. They do have a good assortment of Italian food on the menu and specials of the day on a chalkboard A frame outside. i certainly won't be trying this sausage sandwich thing again for what I paid for it, and i was expecting a little more than basic. I did have an espresso and tiramisu afterwards. Which was delicious. I had my 70th birthday celebration at Modicas on Saturday night and I can't say enough about how wonderful it was! We had close to 20 people inside and Orsa, the owner , set up the room beautifully! I followed my nose here and really glad I did. The lasagna was so good! Tasted like fresh cheese and perfectly cooked noodles with a tomato sauce that didn't seem like it came from a generic can. A quick stop for something to "snack" on and ashamed to say I ate the whole order. The salads were very fresh as well. I got a Greek salad and a green salad. Delicious dressing. Service was pretty fast. It was very early in the evening so the restaurant wasn't busy yet. I usually take that as a bad sign, but stand corrected in this case. Great find! read more

Update: This place is singlehandedly ruining my waistline. I can't stop buying the chocolate suicide cake. Should be renamed waistline suicide cake. Literally addicted. If I can eat a slice a day I'm a happy camper (luckily I can just wear stretchy pants at home right now) 5 stars for the delivery of my chocolate suicide cake, ordered through Postmates. It was fast and fantastic. I died and went to heaven. A bit sweet towards the end of the slice but it was a rich chocolatey flavor with a light moist texture. I absolutely loved it!!! Don't hesitaste to try this delicious cake. I'll have to try other items from this restaurant in the future! Note: just passed by this place and some of the prices are inflated on postmates, for example my cake was $7.25 online but $5.95 in restaurant. Not a fan of this inflated pricing if I am already paying other convenience fees. Update: The cheesecake is also delicious, not overly dense and not too sweet! Also a win! I rather like this cute little spot. It seems possible to get a meal from dishes that would not be served in one and the same restaurant, your choice to be as discordinate as you please. Staff seemed new or uncoordinated but no major problem. I'd go with four and a half stars if there were menus and better system than having to order from the inside counter. I thought I just wanted a light breakfast/lunch/snack, so potato salad was an appealing idea. Little did I know how delicious it was going to be. Well seasoned, not for the bland lover, but not spicy. I did not care for the pasta salad that I sampled, that was bland and small. Sitting on the roomy outside patio was pleasant enough to not want to leave just yet. Good excuse to get dessert. What a dessert! Renamed from blackout cake to Suicide by Chocolate gets more takers, but such marketing isn't necessary. It is very, very good. Modica's is one of my go to restaurants, mostly because I can walk there, but also because it's tasty Italian food, amazing and fun ambiance, and a great deal for big families. Orsa, the owner, is incredibly invested in this community, and promoting public safety for residents, business owners, and everyone else around. I was really impressed when I saw one of the servers being out food for one of the local homeless. This is place with heart and compassion, and it shows in their food. My boys love this place because they can get a lot of really yummy food, for not a lot of dough. I've had the beef lasagna, veggie lasagna, lobster ravioli, and goat cheese toasts here and it NEVER disappoints. My boys have had the spicy meatballs and chicken Parmesan and rave about it. You get a big entree dish.. AND salad... AND lots of bread. The wines are also delish - my hubby is a bit of an enophile and loves their selection. On Wednesdays and Fridays they have live music, which is so fun! We moved nearby in October. They had an amazing Gatsby night, with a jazz trio (maybe quartet, don't remember now) that was dressed to the period and playing music from the period. So many locals came and were also dressed up to the period, as were the servers. Our server was Tyler that night. He gave us the community scoop when we told him We just moved in. And now... we're part of the locals group that frequent Modica's. Tyler makes you feel so welcome and will give you the scoop and the best dishes and wines (having just met us, even told us about Orsa's secret wine stash!). Two stars because the pastrami sandwich was pretty okay. Ordered a bow tie and fruit salad and both were gross the salad was a mix of watermelon, cantaloupe honeydew and pineapple, it had a slimy coating as when it's old. The cantaloupe was sour and don't remember the last time I had sour cantaloupe. The bow tie was also old and had a really bad after taste (very bitter) I think it's just old or the fact that both salads were not cold their refrigerator is not working. As usual they continue to be rude and unfriendly. Maybe they are really trying hard to be an authentic NY deli. Either way I'm done with this place. Love this place! Their sandwiches are usually on point and they have great outdoor seating with a glimpse of the ocean on a good day. Parking is usually hard, but with the parking god we were able to find street parking. I ordered the prosciutto adding sundried tomato paste and my boyfriend ordered the Italian sandwich, both one footer. We sat outside since it was a beautiful day and waited for our food. My boyfriend seemed to enjoy his sandwich, but I was in love with mine! It was just the way I want it and the way I would make it also.
