I had an expresso and some soft cream bread, as well as an Over pour Hot coffee . It was Al right not great, i understand it's a Korean Cafe but No brown sugar or half & half. For me it's not Good, I mean they only offered a sugar syrup and whole milk and that to me doesn't taste good on hot brew coffee, I'd like something a bit more creamy like a half and half or even heavy cream. Incredible!! I came on a weekday morning and only had to wait a couple minutes in line, and I was also grateful they still had plenty of pastries left. Modu cafe had one of the best matcha lattes I've ever had (and I've had a lot of matcha)! It was fresh with a vibrant green color and did not taste rancid or stale at all! I also tried their milk bun with cream which so so light and airy! I wish their seating was more conducive to small groups of 3-4 people to meet and enjoy the drinks and confections. Seating for individuals working on laptops as well as one large communal table was available, but it was hard to find space for my group of 3 to comfortably sit and enjoy our experience. Came in around 10:30AM to meet a friend and do some work and it was surprisingly easy to find street parking. This place is street parking only so it can be a little tricky. Thursdays are street cleaning until 11:00AM so beware to avoid parking fines. There was a small line when we got in but it moved fast. There's a 4-pastry limit so choose wisely because everything looks so good! I opted for the following pastries/coffees: 1. Black sesame mochi cake $6 - barely sweet 2. Miso garu cookie $5 - too sweet and salty 3. Dark chocolate mochi brownie $6 - barely sweet 4. Ssuk marble pound cake $7 - okay sweet 5. Modu latte $7 - asked for easy sweetness 6. Espresso cloud $5.50 - not sweet only the foam is Of all the things I got today, I loved the black sesame mochi cake, dark chocolate mochi brownie and the Modu latte. Black sesame mochi cake and the dark chocolate mochi brownie were delicious and texture is amazing. If you like mochi, I highly recommend these two. Modu latte was really good and I prefer it over the espresso cloud. I hate sugar (believe it or not) so keep that in mind with my ratings. I would honestly skip on the miso garu cookie. Flavors were very interesting but I thought it was overwhelmingly salty and sweet. Though chewy, this cookie felt grainy like you're crunching on the salt/sugar granules. Ssuk marble pound cake was very pretty but underwhelming and tasted like a pound cake. The cafe itself is very cute with a modern, minimal aesthetic. It gets super loud in here so it's not really a good spot to work out of but at least they have free wifi. WiFi password is "moducafe" for anyone who needs it! They have a really nice restroom here and it's clean so that's a plus! Overall, I really like this place and would come back but prices are pretty hefty. My visit today was over $40 read more

The vibe of this place was very chic and calming but their matcha latte didn't taste the best fo rme personally. I like my matcha on the sweeter and floral side but their matcha was more earthy and bitter, which is not a bad thing if that is what you are looking for. Their staff was super friendly and they clearly knew what they were doing when it came to make matcha. Smooth, not too sweet and they default to oat milk. Matcha latte - 5/5 Probably one of the best matcha lattes I've had in the LA area. Well balanced, you can actually taste the matcha and not watery. Black sesame dark chocolate cookie - 4/5 It's a pretty good cookie. I'm not a fan of chocolate or dark chocolate so it was a little hard of a sell for me, but it was good for what it is. Miso garu cookie - 4.5/5 First bite of this was really really good. Solid flavors, soft and chewy with a somewhat crispy edge. The more I ate it, it did feel a bit too sweet to finish. Service - 4/5 Friendly staff. They were busy at the time of visit, but overall pretty quick service. Ambiance - 4/5 Not ideal for working. It's a loud space with people talking and the tall ceilings amplify the sound. The sun does come beating down around noon so something to keep in mind if you're working. Personally not the biggest fan of the flow of this coffee shop. The area where you pick up your coffee can get crowded when it's busy and if your sitting at one of the ends of the tables or bench along the wall it feels like people are just waiting on top of you. The overall ambiance of the space is very modern and simplistic with a Scandinavian furniture but cramming people together with little space is not great for those who don't do well with crowds or small spaces read more

I asked for whole milk, and they use oat milk instead. * Cup sizes felt small for the price. It's quite clever that it saves costs while somehow making customers think the drink might be top-notch special cocktail quality. They use designer's cocktail glasses for dine in customers. * Minimalist, zen wabi-sabi ambiance created a calming atmosphere, but lack of a sense uniqueness or strong first impression like it could be any coffee shops. * Pastries sold out by noon despite a four-per-customer limit; I'm looking forward to trying them next time. A gorgeous, minimalist, delicious and pricey cafe! We came by before the crowds (~9AM) on a Sunday morning and were filled with delight with everything we tried. The matcha latte was fantastically balanced; the espresso + tonic beautifully brought out the citrusy flavors. The miso/garu cookie was unlike anything we've ever tried - something of a mix of salty miso and malted, nutty sesame flavors (perhaps also has misugaru in it? an ingredient we are not familiar with). The milk bun was decadently presented and so fresh and creamy. The perilla lime tart was also an adventure in flavors unknown to us and a perfect bite to accompany our drinks. We enjoyed the Modu Latte and Matcha Latte with cold foam. Both drinks were not very sweet, well balanced and rich in flavor. High matcha quality and they do not save on the amount of powder. Didn't get photos of the drinks & pastries we got, but we came here to do some work anyways. First of all, this place is not ideal for longer work sessions because there are no outlets. Second, it's very crowded on the weekend even at 9:30am, which is when we came and got in line. So I wouldnt come back for work. We tried the vanilla latte and the espresso cloud. I expected a bit more from the espresso cloud since I expected the cream top to give it a slight hint of sweetness, but the drink was creamy but not sweetened at all. The drink was a 3/5 for me. We got the black sesame mochi cake bar and the milk cream bun. The black sesami mochi bar is basically a black sesame rice cake that's been baked. Not too sweet, but i dont see the hype behind it. The milk cream bun is creamy and sweet and fluffy. It's like a fresher version of the viral korean cream donut. Great new cafe on York Blvd in Highland Park! We came around I think 11 or so, and there wasn't much of a line so that was nice- there was also a limit on pastries; I think it was 4 per person, so I think that's pretty generous lol. Spacious interior, great for working, friendly staff. I think their cream bun looked great, but it was fine- I appreciated the fact there was someone making those fresh (it looked pretty labor intensive to make those smooth, so that was cool!) Also had their mochi muffin which had a great texture, the hojicha flavor is definitely there, and we also had a cookie! Forgot which one. I've visited this shop twice , once during their opening week and then again a few months later. We ordered their hojicha, matcha, and Modu latte. All drinks have been good. The Modu latte has oat milk which I personally feel like it waters down the coffee flavor. However the cream is delicious. We also ordered their mochi dark chocolate brownie, and it was tasty. Amazing pastries including gluten free items and carefully curated coffee/tea selections. I had Black Sesame Mochi Cake Bar and Hojicha Mochi Muffin, which were both gluten free. If you like chewy mochi texture and Asian not-overly sweet flavors, you would love them! I was at their soft opening, and their pastries were sold out pretty quickly. I recommend you to visit them early in the morning if you are looking for buying pastries. I was following the pastry chef Jiyoon's Instagram and admiring her creativity. Not only they all look like art pieces, but also taste divine! I am also very impressed with their coffee and tea selections. I am not a sweetened drink person, but their cream top coffee and matcha looked amazing. As a black coffee and ceremonial matcha (without any added milk) drinker, I am happy that they had plenty of menu options I can choose. If you're like me, you're probably looking up this place because it's the new hot cafe in LA. Modu has a lot of hype, but is it worth waiting in line and paying at least $7 per food item? I'd say yes and no. My wife and I got to Modu around 10:30 and the line wasn't too bad, but unfortunately for us, by the time I had gotten to the front of the line, all the popular bakery items had already been sold out. We ordered the hojicha mochi muffin, ssuk pound cake, a yuja passionfruit spritz, and a matcha tonic. The hojicha muffin was good, but not worth $6 for a muffin that size. The ssuk pound cake was our favorite of the two. Ssuk is very much a uniquely Korean ingredient, which we both liked. My wife liked the spritz, but was not a fan of the passionfruit seeds. She said it reminded her of giant chia seeds and did not like crunching on them haha Initially, I wasn't a fan of the matcha tonic, but the more I drank it, the more I grew to like it. I'd recommend this drink to adventurous matcha drinkers. I thought the ambiance of the cafe was great. The crowd inside the cafe was talkative, but not so loud that I couldn't have a conversation with my wife. I also loved how people were allowed to bring their dogs inside. I visited 5/15/26 in search of good coffee that may be over priced. Instead it was horrible coffee AND over priced. I read a review stating it tasted like bad McDonald's coffee and I thought I'd try it for myself in hopes they would be wrong, they were not. I got 2 pastries. One was bland and the other was tasty. My other non-coffee drink was fruity and tasty but not worth the price tag. The drinks are very small, about 8-10oz with a $7 price.
