Enjoyed my iced modu latte which was nicely sweetened - cinnamon on the cream top was a nice touch! Energetic and bright ambiance, friendly service, WiFi, and plenty of indoor seating.

03/20/26 Friday Our friend who loves trying out new cafes dropped off a couple of drinks for us. Kind of pricey for the small amount you get. 9/10 Modu Latte - one of their signature drinks. Very unique with the Korean syrup and cinnamon. Pretty tasty but not addicting tasty. 7/10 Iced Matcha Latte - nothing special as the matcha taste wasn't super prominent. It's a very light drink. Very smooth though.

Vacationing in SoCal and been wanting to stop by so included Modu for our pastry walk! Darling cafe with a good amount for seating large open space and well decorated ! Got their seasonal passionfruit tart and miso cinnamon roll! Enjoyed both along with coffee! I'm a big cinnamon roll lover and the miso cinnamon roll was not as fluffy as most cinnamon roll but love the umami and sweet flavor ! Well a stop while you are in the area, plus staff are attentive!

Decided to cowork with a friend who wanted to check out Modu, so I met her here! I was able to find street parking in a residential block a couple minute walk away. Atmosphere wise, the music is a nice ambient level & everyone was either chatting or working. The area that left me quite disappointed was my drink. I opted to try the matcha latte as the vibrant green color I saw in other review photos looked quite promising. However, upon first sip, I realized that the color may have led me astray, as I struggled to really taste any matcha. It tasted a bit more like watered down oat milk. Overall, I'd likely stick to trying their coffee based drinks if I were to return in the future.

I had a great experience at this Korean bakery/cafe in Highland Park! For drinks, I got their signature Modu Latte Iced and it was great. It was satisfyingly sweet from the Korean black sugar syrup and had good espresso flavor. I also liked the sweet and soft cream top. I also tried their signature milk cream bun and it was between good and decent. What I liked most was the cream which was soft, not too sweet, and light. I could eat a lot of that haha. The brioche bun used as could've been better though. It was bready and firm, whereas I would've preferred the bread to be fluffy and airy. This would be great as a sandwich bun though. The interior and exterior are pretty nice, I like the vibes. There's a main table which people can share as well as individual seats and tables. There's wifi here, but I didn't see any outlets. Parking is street parking only. I would recommend parking in the nearby neighborhood for free parking. Overall, good experience here. I would love to come back to try thor other creative and aesthetic pastries!

Modu cafe is a minimalist coffee shop with lots of interesting options on their menu and available pastries. I went here at around 9:30 AM on a Saturday. For parking, I found a spot on Milwaukee Ave. Once inside, it was very busy, so there was a wait before ordering. My girlfriend and I were barely able to grab a seat with a table. Prior to the visit, we were very interested in the milk bun and the perilla lime tart. After browsing the items they had, we did go for those options. I also got the Modu Latte as well. To my surprise, the Perilla Lime Tart was the sweetest item and my favorite item! The tart itself was firm and the perilla added a unique flavor. Both the milk bun and latte were not too sweet and went well together.

If you drive too fast you will miss this place. You can see Galco market not directly across but close enough to know your in the right area. I didn't try the coffee this time but I did get some pastries to try. With all four of the pastry I got, they are not too sweet and I love that. Black sesame mochi cake loaf, you can taste the earthly toasted sesame and the texture is mochi but not too much. Lime tart, really unique with the sugar leaf on top and it goes well with the filling. Tart and I want to say I was able to taste a little of cheese in it too. Cream bun, sooo good airy and fluffy, you don't feel guilty eating it. Because the bun itself is so fluffy and the cream top is just light and delicious and I can see why the staff is making more of them in the kitchen. Last was this black sesame dark chocolate cookie. I really enjoyed it and take little bites of it. It's wonderful. The black sesame and dark chocolate goes well together. Service was very nice and the staff was patience and I was able to ask to put the pastry in separate boxes because I was gifting some

Beware of street parking on York Blvd. I found luck on a neighboring residential street but street sweeping (No Parking) is from 9-11am Wednesday on one side and Thursday on the other side. Plenty of seats and tables, great for a work from cafe kind of day but might need to go early. People that were there already around noon didn't seem like they would be leaving anytime soon. We only ordered one coffee because we had watered down drinks from another place a few minutes prior. Modu Latte was terrible. Nothing special to it, tasted like a McDonalds' coffee but topped with a cream top.. We really came for their pastries and those were much better than their coffee. Yuja Kumquat Tart -soo good, the chocolate pastry shell wasn't too sweet and paired well with the citrus cream. Dolloped on top was a cream that was light and airy. Candied Kumquat was great touch. Black Sesame Mochi Cake Bar -it's what you expected it to be. Not too sweet.

I came here with a friend on a Sunday morning after seeing it on Instagram. It wasn't too crowded for a weekend and the interior had ample seating for us. We ordered a yuzu tart and the signature cream pan for our pastries. For drinks, we ordered the matcha latte and the hojicha latte. Starting off with the cream pan, I would say it's solid for what it is; however, it's nothing to write home about. It wasn't too sweet nor heavy which I appreciated, but other than that it was pretty standard. The yuzu tart was very impressive. I admit that I am a big fan of yuzu, but this tart was made quite well. It wasn't too overly powerful, but it still had a nice aroma and taste of yuzu with each bite. I won't say much about the drinks because I don't think that's what this place is known for, but it's just your standard matcha and hojicha you can get anywhere else. All in all, Modu Cafe has an interesting selection of pastries and I had a good experience overall.

Superb drinks and sweets! If you're in rush, this is not the place to be. My mom and I went before lunch time and the place is packed. They also take their time making the drinks making it more special and intentional.

Modu is a cute café just a bit down on York Blvd in a quieter part of town, but offers a nice drink selection and an especially robust Asian-inspired dessert menu. I opted for the Modu Latte, as well as a yuzu kumquat tart and two cookies (black sesame and misu-garu). The cookies were phenomenal, chewy and full of sesame and soybean flavor. Even better was that they weren't too sweet! The yuzu kumquat tart was tasty, although I would've preferred a stronger yuzu punch, as it was quite subtle. The Modu Latte was okay, but I did find it overly sweet; I wish there'd been more coffee to counterbalance the sweetness more. Overall, Modu offers beautiful desserts and drinks and is a great place to sit down and enjoy dessert with a friend or getting work done. Worth a go while in the area!

My wife wanted to try this coffee spot when we were in LA, said their pastries look awesome. I got the matcha tonic which tasted really good, my friend got the coffee tonic, was more sour and bitter than the matcha one. My wife got the best one, the Yuja passion fruit spritz, think it's yuzu but another name. The pastries are all very good, liked the sesame mochi cake the most, cream bun is creamy and dense, my wife liked it a lot, and the Brûlée cheesecake is also very good, a little on the sweeter side. Just note that there aren't many seats available, especially on weekends, we got there on Sunday 3pm ish, it was full. Definitely would revisit for their pastries and buy a drink with them.

Trying Modu Cafe was actually so fun! Their unique asian flavors were so interesting and hard to choose from because everything sounded so delicious! BLACK SESAME MOCHI BAR: 5/5 Classic mochi bar but with a black sesame flavor - the chewy texture had me taking so many extra bites! PERILLA LEAF LIME TART: 5/5 The candied perilla leaf was so cool and tasted so delicious and herbal! I love lemon tarts so this was an amazing twist! CREAM BUN: 2/5 I truly don't understand the hype of this - it's very cute and aesthetically round but the bread tasted stale and was not soft or pillowy. The fresh cream is nice but not enough to make up for the bread. It's very popular here so it was packed even on a weekday around 11am - definitely come early if you're trying to nab a seat! Lots of people doing work here. There's wifi, restrooms, free parking on the street, and the vibes are very clean minimalistic sleek and japandi.

The mango coconut matcha was refreshing and really good, and the Miel Cream Top was a fun treat too. They also carry pastries from Cake Monkey, which is always a win, and have a nice selection of breakfast options like burritos, sandwiches, granola and yogurt if you're looking for something more substantial. Next time I might just give myself a mini little portrait session with those walls and that atmosphere.

Very little coffee shops sell them, so when I saw it on an online menu, I knew I had to visit. Coffee was fruity, sour, slightly smoky, lingering astringency and bitterness. The cream on top was light in sweetness. Overall it was okay, but still disappointing. It wasn't a smooth espresso, flavor was all over the place. Wish there was more contrasting temperatures of the hot espresso and cold cream on top too. Coffee beans were Brazilian, Guatemalan, Sumatra, Medium-Dark Roast Coffee. The coffee beans were lightly roasted. ICED MATCHA LATTE WITH MATCHA CREAM TOP Wanted to try their matcha as they really advertised Nami Matcha on their menu. First time trying Nami. Super light on the sweetness overall, hardly any honey or agave in their matcha drink. Matcha was grassy, a bit floral, a bit of sweetness in the matcha, a bit of astringency and bitterness at the end that lingers in your mouth. A lot of things going on, yet there was more of an aftertaste of astringency with bitterness at the end that wasn't pleasant. So strange that the matcha flavor was more on the lighter side, since I did add matcha cream top as well. However, I liked this drink more than the espresso con panna. But I would not reorder both drinks. AMBIANCE + SEATS A bit dark and moody place with dark ceilings, wooden chairs and tables. There were a lot of tables and it was packed today! The only available seats were the benches on the side. There were small tables, so I was able to place my drinks there. It is a nice place to hang out. Lots of points for the ambiance. CUSTOMER SERVICE It was good, staff was nice. It was packed and busy, yet they were nice about answering questions and making sure that everyone got good service. PARKING There is street parking, but even when I went on a weekday, it was difficult to find parking. There were neighborhood parking too, but it was far easier to park closer to the streets than in neighborhood street parking due to many tow away signs and private parking signs. I am open to revisiting although the drinks I ordered were not home runs. I felt there were more coffee or matcha drinks to try and their menu intrigued me.

The playlist is great too and there is an adjacent lounge that you can rent for meetings, parties, or classes. In keeping with the theme of community, they even have a basket where you can leave (or take) an encouraging note, which I think is quite nice. The day of my visit I had a pleasant encounter with barista Izzy. She was as sweet as can be and prepared my Cortado with care and handed it to me with a smile. The roast was smooth and the dollop of almond milk was just right. I'm glad I stopped in. *Street parking.

Ever since I moved to LA 5 years ago, I've loved Kumquat. Kumquat lives off of York Blvd - a street with many families, creatives, and small businesses live. The environment is always wholesome. Their staff are always friendly, and as an experienced barista myself, I can see that their team are also very talented, well trained and very good at quality control. Their espresso is so balanced and sits perfectly center on your palette. Their matcha and hojicha is rich and velvety and seemingly a higher grade product. They work with many roasters, and sell a lot of their beans on their shelves. They also sell a lot of coffee and tea tools. I love everything about coming to Kumquat. Don't skip on their other locations (Loquat and newfound Quat). I'll forever stan this business

*** Cash not accepted ***…read more It has been a few years since my original visit and it looks like Kumquat Coffee is now known as the coffee shop to get matcha and hojicha lattes. Here are some of the key highlights: * In addition to the 2nd location in Downtown LA and a sister coffee shop Loquat Coffee in Cypress Park, the same owners also opened Fondry Bakery in 2024, a coffee roastery called Quat in Glassell Park in October 2025, and a 2nd Loquat location in Silver Lake in December 2025. * Still no private parking lot and the two public parking lots are still your best bet (5033 Lincoln Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90042 & 1311N N Ave 51, Los Angeles, CA 90042). Otherwise street parking is available. * Still no indoor seating with only few small outdoor chairs and a tiny table. * Our party had the Hojicha Latte (half-sweet $6.50) and Matcha Latte ($6.75). Personally, I strongly discourage anyone from getting the half-sweet option as it made the drink taste a bit watery. The Matcha Latte had full sweetness and it tasted about right, but it was still not as good as some other matcha lattes out there. * No public restroom [Conclusion]: A nice coffee shop to stop by while visiting the boutique shops on York Blvd. Decent matcha drinks, but I still prefer matcha drinks from various cafes in Koreatown if I want something on the next level.
