    Pan dulce
    Lila L.

Found Moises Bakery on my way home from work and I'm glad I did. I'm always looking for places that have good pan dulce. And Moises Bakery doesn't disappoint. The pan dulce was perfect with un cafecito. Will be back to try the pupusas.

I am so disappointed at the food changes and feeling bad to give a bad review as I love supporting small businesses and love Salvadorean food. There's a lot of room to improve. I've been eating Salvi food since I was child. If you order to go check before you leave. I had an item missing. I called and was able to get a refund. She handled it nice too since she forgot to add it. I took food to go. I added pictures on all. The tamales both chipilin and pork were good. The masa was excellent. The size was small to medium. The pupusas are tiny, they are good but nothing extraordinary. As they are small there's no cheese stretch or a good feel about the filling. The masa is good. The quesadilla pasty was crumbly, it did not feel fresh. It was dry with no flavor compared to ones I've eaten before. The best Salvi quesadillas are moist. The guava, pineapple, and custard empanada pastry were small. The pineapple one did not feel fresh, more on the dry side, crumbly compared to other flavors. The pork empanada was probably the worst. They were tiny with hardly any filling. The empanadas usually have a ground meat or shredded chicken. This one had pieces of pork so it was not flavorful at all. There's table seating indoors and outdoors. The yucca con chicharron was okay too. Usually it comes with a salad like but this one came with 1 beet, 1 slice of tomato and 1 slice of cucumber with a small bag of curtido. No sauce. Tip: The server gave me a business card and recommended to call for orders to go as the waiting time was 30 minutes. I did not mind waiting. I appreciated her sharing this. Tip: recommend the pork tamal. The pupusas if hungry get at least 3.

I ordered a gender reveal cake here for me and my wife. When we went to order, we brought the…read moregender in an envelope and told the person taking our order that we don't know the gender and we don't want to find out until we cut the cake. She was nice and helped us choose a cake that would meet our needs. I reminded her after the order was completed that I would be the one picking up the cake and I do not want it to be revealed what the gender is to me. When I went to go pick up the cake, the cake box was smaller than the cake so we couldn't close it properly to transport it safely. But I did notice pink on the top layer icing and I went back to the guy and asked him to cover it up. Instead of just covering the imperfection on an all white cake, he said you know the color on the inside is blue right? And i told him, no I don't but now the surprise is ruined. After being extra careful for a week to not know what the gender was going to be before the reveal. The person who packed the cake decided to get defensive about the imperfection on the all white cake and say what the color is on the inside. All I asked was to cover the imperfection so the cake is solid white like we ordered and not tell me what the color on the inside was. It was truly disappointing that they would try to argue the imperfection as it was clearly pink on top corner than to cover it with more white icing. Wouldn't recommend getting a gender reveal cake here. Truly ruined a good moment for us by having bad customer service skills.

I arrived around 7:30 and it was empty, but as I was deciding what to get there was a line out the door. Everything looks delicious it was so hard to choose. For myself I got the egg and ham croissant which was so unique and absolutely delicious. A perfect savory treat. I also had a bite of their strawberry-rhubarb breton which was also delicious, kinda like a shortbread cookie with cream and strawberry. The worker was super sweet helping me out and patient as I was struggling on what to order for her and myself. Small shop with meter/street parking.

Their food is generally pretty good: ranging from average (certain seasonal desserts, their ham and…read morecheese croissants, scones) to excellent (toffee cake, almond croissants, certain beads). They are on the pricey side but that's expected in the Bay Area. The reason for the two stars: of the last three times I've been there, they have gotten my order wrong TWICE. Once in a while is totally an acceptable accident but two thirds wrong is really poor service. The workers are nice but not exactly approachably friendly. They take the order in front of the register, receive payment, and then step over to the counter to collect the items. The issue is when you (I) order a lot of stuff, they get collected behind the counter and placed into a large shopping bag so you can't see what you are getting (or not getting). They walk around behind the counter grabbing stuff and those that have paid stand in a small corner away from the purchasing line so it's difficult to see what they do (or don't) pick up. The first time I came home to find my order of half loaf (they sell the large ones by halves, if you want) missing. I brushed it off as an accident. I don't live close enough to go back before they close and I wouldn't have proof anyways. This last time I went, they didn't put in a pastry! At this point, I'm down about $16 and beginning to wonder if it's deliberate. *sigh* So now I have to decide whether I boycott them altogether or only buy one or two items so I can see what I am getting or be the weirdo that takes out every item in a large shopping bag to double check their work. *sigh again*
