Honestly the Cold Sandwiches are really good but ordered wings too cause my sister is having a big party and we were checking it out for catering. I live 5 minutes away got home opened the wings and they looked disgustingly soggy but still gave it a try, took one bite and it was cold and soggy. Called and spoke to a manager who said yea they are microwaved I wouldn't suggest them... nice enough to offer a refund so my boyfriend drove back a little bit later cause he had to run out and the girl at the counter was rude to him and muttering under her breath to another work and then claimed she only charged us 5.50 for them instead of the menu price.... makes no sense but she never offered a receipt when we went earlier when they were busy so I thought nothing of it at the time but whatever but now we definitely won't be going back. Upon my first visit about an hour before closing on 2-3-2020, everyone was busy cleaning the store, the deli case looked immaculate, shelves were all stocked, all the young women were very polite and helpful, and they all seemed to work well together as a team. Now to the food. Simple pleasures for a warm winter day called for a sandwich and Mom's is a go to if you're in this area (near Lindenwood Park or River City Casino). I was so happy that they took cards too! I was worried they didn't when I saw their ATM. When she said yes we take CCs ding ding ding ding my order got bigger. First, my new favorite is the meatball sandwich. It's simply rich but not overtly salty. A stick to the bones kind of sandwich. I suggest getting it with a extra provel and adding a lil salt (nothing salty about this sandwich just good home cooked taste). Second, Mom's Sandwich is a die har go to. If you don't want a 1000 like type dressing on it, I suggest mixing spicy mustard and mayo. Both are delicious same day or next. They hold up well in the fridge with the thick Italian bread loaves. I also bought their veggie pasta salad, mostaccioli and frozen cannelloni ($6.99 for 8) that I plan on cooking with DiGregorio' Mom's Meat Sauce. YES! After having such a bad experience at another place we decided to visit Mom's deli since it was close by. What a great choice! When we arrived there was a line, but it was moving fast. We had time to select a bag of chips and they even had some beers for sale. We had to look at a menu since it was our first visit, but selecting a sandwich was easy for both of us. The girls behind the counter were working fast and taking orders quickly. I ordered the Charlie and my husband ordered the Ron. When ordering they asked if we needed veggies or any additional condiments. I asked for lettuce to be added to mine and my husband asked for spicy mustard. It was such a smooth ordering process. We made it to the register to pay and I also asked for a pint of the macaroni salad since it looked good. It was also almost gone so I knew it had to be good. She took our order, rang up the items we had, bagged out items and we were on our way. Such a painless process. We got home and couldn't wait to eat. The sandwiches were on french bread and warm and toasty. Just the way a sandwich should be. I ate the whole thing. Each bite was filled with turkey, cheese, mayo and lettuce. It all went so well together and I was already thinking of ordering another one to bring with me for lunch tomorrow. So so good. Oh, and the macaroni salad was delicious too-I know it was a may based salad, but the other flavors added in a nice kick. We liked it. I have always loved Mom's Deli. The food is great, but service is awefulll. The past two visits, our orders were wrong for a simple roast beef sandwich. Today at 5:20 I entered, ordered, and a girl was on the phone. She hung up, with customers in the store, and continued to loudly call a large-order customer a Fat B**** because she called to complain that her salad had no dressing, a sandwich was missing cheese, and no gravy that she paid for. It was a large order. The girl was even more upset at the dumb B for calling only to give criticism and not ask for a reorder or credit. I couldn't understand why that made it worse.. "she didn't even want anything free she just called to complain".... that her salad didn't have dressing?! Get rid of the high schoolers ruining a long tradition of good food before people realize a south city local deli can easily go out of business... When I was pregnant all I wanted was melted cheese on anything. Gooey, melted, cheese that binds together virtually anything. I really wanted sandwiches but I have always tried to be a good little host vessel and avoid deli meat because of the risk of listeria. I have been to numerous sandwich joints and the bread was just... not that fabulous...kind of stale...wrong for the type of sandwich...or chewy. This bread was flakey, fresh, and fabulous. Likely one of the best crusty breads that I have ever enjoyed with a sandwich. This is your classic deli market that might remind you of something from the movies in the Bronx in the early 1900's where most people bought their groceries. These magic sandwiches are delicious and taste like no others but also are hangover cures! Here's what you need to do. 1. Upon flying into STL, insist you go straight to Mom's from the airport. 2. Order a Moms special for lunch. I recommend extra pickles. 3. Only eat half. I know. This is some serious self control. But seriously, pack that up and put in the fridge. 4. Go to a wedding. Consume alcohol. 5. Wake up the next day and eat your left over sandwich half. There is something chemical about the sandwich sitting overnight in the fridge and the bread gets sort of mushy and extra delicious and ugh. Then... BOOM. Hangover gone. read more

I love Mom's Deli and I am a huge fan of the Mom's Special. Delicious!!! I have nothing bad to say about the food but.......they really need to start changing their gloves. I'm a RN and it's Covid so I was very aware of safety the last 2 times I was there. I probably didn't pay as much attention prior to Covid. They wear one pair of gloves and touch EVERYTHING with those gloves. They touch the meat they touch the bread they touch the microwave handle they touch the trash bucket under the counter they touch the phone and they touch the deli case doors. I also brought in a list yesterday which the girl took from my bare hand and proceeded to throw it directly on top of the pile of cheese. Yikes! Never once did they change their gloves. Mom's Deli is a staple of South City. You will always find people here for a quick lunch enjoying the weather outside. It's set up like a convenience store with tons of drink and chip options. You order at the counter and they make your sandwich on the fly. I like the Charlie's which is turkey and mozzarella with mayo. They are on the pricier side for basic sandwiches but they are a large portion and the bread always tastes fresh. I used to not come here as often when they were cash only (because I would just never remember to get cash) but now I believe they take cards (not sure what the minimum is). Great mom and pop deli. I was pleasantly surprised by the sandwich prices. Maybe I'm used to the inflated prices of similar establishments. The sandwiches are around $7.50 for a foot long. They could probably increase them by 10% and not receive a complaint. Also, I don't know where they source their raw salsiccia but it's very good. Always fresh. Everyone seems to have their favorites at Mom's Deli because the recommendations on Yelp varies! My favorite is the rueben sandwich which comes with freshly sliced corned beef and melted Swiss cheese. Also you can't forget the great mixture of tangy sauerkraut and creamy homemade 1000 island dressing... And all these wonderful ingredients sits between two beautiful marble rye slices... PERFECTION. If I am in a hurry, I like to call my order ahead to beat the rush and cruise through the check out line. On my off days, I like to sit outside in front on a nice day. The tables are a first come, first served basis and are limited. I wouldn't describe Mom's as a sit and eat shop. The setup inside is more like a small grocery stores where you can grab your sandwich and a bag of chips to go. I will have to warn you about the line during lunch hours. There might be a little wait. However, the line moves pretty fast and you better be prepared with your order on your turn! Mom's Deli has been mothering their neighbors in Lindenwood Park since 1977. However, I didn't join the family until 2011. Much like my own family, I only visit so often, but by spacing out the time spent there, it makes the moments so much more special! At first glance, Mom's looks more like a house than a deli, but like so many great establishments, it blends into the scenary and becomes just a part of the block. However, when I step up to the counter and see those meats in the case just waiting to be sliced and placed on some bread, I feel right at home! My personal favorite is Mom's Special: turkey, ham, beef, and munchee cheese, covered in homemade 1000 Island dressing. And it has to come on French bread! However, Mom's has a few other bread options. When coupling this deli with its corner market atmosphere, the side and drink options can be endless. Patrons can even walk out with a sixer and a sandwich. However, the ladies at the counter frown upon people popping a top outside on the porch! Therefore, one might take that combo home. Living near Blues City Deli has kept me from patronizing this place recently, but sometimes I think about making the six mile drive to Mom's Deli. Haven't been home in a while? Come see Mom. I actually ran across Mom's a couple of years ago when I used to live in Webster Groves. One day, we were feeling a little sandwichey, and so we went in... ...and then we walked out. Cash only. We both have a firm agreement that we don't like to pay stupid ATM fees if we don't need to. So being slaves to our ease-of-use debit cards, we had to eat elsewhere. However, last weekend, we journeyed across town with a pocketful of cash and gave Mom's a shot. The store has great character. I heard that it hadn't really changed much over the years which was a plus in my book. The layout of the place is easy. You simply follow the chip aisle, grab a bag, then grab a drink and go to one of the helpful staff for a sandwich. I wasn't sure what to get, but I followed my basic rule: when in doubt, go with the house special. It wasn't hard to find, it was the Mom's Special. A gigantic sub loaded with three kinds of meat, a layer of cheese, veggies, and 1000 Island dressing. Big. Filling....and, uh...big and filing...and...well, it was okay. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. It was good. I will probably try the store out again. You can't seriously judge a place based on one sandwich. You have to keep coming back to find the right fit. Much like Han Solo probably had to go through a few sidekicks to find the right wingman...wingwookiee... As far as sandwich shops go, it was good. The character of the location and the store was wonderful. I would recommend this place to anyone that wanted a solid sandwich, and wanted to be close enough to walk to Ted Drewes. Back in high school, when having open campus was like getting a golden ticket, I used to roll over to Mom's and pick up a sandwich order for what seemed like at least 10 girls. That's how amazing Mom's was. The prices are still more or less the same and that was 8 years ago now (that's disturbing enough).
