This restaurant is untrustworthy and terrible. They deserve 0 star. Yelp needs to flag customers the reservation system is a joke. We are a group of 7 adults and 2 kids enjoying weekend gateway in Paso Robles. We have kids in the party and it's a huge party so we were looking for restaurants take reservation and we decided on this one. Reservation was confirmed via text and email. BOTH. 5 mins before the reservation time, restaurant called and said the restaurant is full now and they cannot seat us, stating they have some sort of system issue. Are you kidding me????? Food does look good but if this is the way you serve people, no way. Think twice before deciding to make reservation with this place. read more

I'll give Monarca a second chance because they are locals but on my first visit, I wasn't overly impressed. I had the burger and fries and it just didn't do it for me. Our waitress, while very nice was confused about the menu. Also, the menu prices range kind of wildly. Most things are fairly reasonable, but the burgers are in the $20+ range and honestly, quite bland. I do like the way they decorated and it seemed quite cozy. We came here for an early dinner and wow! Great location, clean setting, varied selection on the menu and best of all the food was outstanding. Was in Paso Robles over the weekend and stopped here for breakfast on Sunday. The location of this restaurant is great; it's right downtown, right next to the beautiful park of Paso Robles. The restaurant itself is a 10/10 in my book on all cylinders. Between the menu, service, and food - it's delicious. I had the eggs benedict and it was delicious. Canadian bacon, perfectly poached eggs, on a perfect English muffin with delightful hollandaise sauce. The manager checked in twice to see how things were which was a nice touch. Lots of great healthy menu items too (like the veggie omelette with egg whites) and the lunch options looked great as well. Needed a place to snag a healthyish breakfast on a Sunday morning and decided to pop in to Monarca (walking distance from the hotel) around 10am, there was no wait but it filled up quite a bit while we dining. Located right across from the central park, the menu was simple yet something for everyone. Service was so friendly and I felt attended too without overwhelm. I was able to swap out potatoes on my egg white omelet for fresh fruit and was able to share my meal with my 11 month old. The omelet was tasty but lacking a little something of flavor and easily fell apart when I went to take a bit, I perhaps should've asked for cheese as well, next time! read more

Based on the many positive yelp reviews we checked out Monarca Restaurant. We were greeted warmly by Julia who was to be our server. We both ordered the same thing, the Monarca breakfast burrito with chorizo, sausage, bacon, cheese, peppers and canary beans. Delicious. Julia also brought us some fresh pico de gallo and a medium creamy salsa. Also delicious. The potatoes were fried with bell peppers and were a perfect complement to the burrito. Honestly, I might go back tomorrow because I also want to check out the chilaquiles which Julia said was the most popular item. read more

Had breakfast with family and overall, it was a great experience! We ordered coffee, the chorizo scramble, and potatoes with bell peppers. The chorizo scramble was very authentic and flavorful, while the potatoes were perfectly cooked with just the right amount of seasoning. The service was excellent--our server was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. It did take a little while to be seated, but it was understandable given how busy the restaurant was. The prices were reasonable, and the portions were generous. Special mention to the orange juice--it was absolutely amazing! Definitely one of the highlights of the meal. My husband and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast on a Friday morning at this beautiful restaurant! I ordered the chorizo omelette with fruit and one pancake and my husband got the steak and eggs. The steak was yummy and cooked perfectly and my chorizo omelette was amazing! The coffee was also excellent. Our server was extra sweet and attentive- fantastic customer service. We stopped in here for breakfast on our last morning in Paso about a month ago, and it was really good. After they sat us at a middle table, we noticed a spot near the window, and when we asked about moving there they were very happy to accommodate. It was nice having a view of the park, and people watching. The chiliaquiles were the best I've had outside of Mexico, and the fresh chorizo (recommended by one of the staff) was a great addition. The other dish we ordered, one of the burritos, was also full of flavor. Their bloody Mary was also tasty, if anything perhaps a bit on the spicy side for us, but we do like spicy so it was all good. The server actually asked our opinion because it was her recipe and she was trying to fine tune it, so that was cool. Overall the service was really friendly and on top of things. It gets busy, so I'd recommend going early like we did if you don't want to wait. Too bad there's not a nice patio, but we will go back for the food! Hopefully next time to try some of the non-breakfast items. read more

The restaurant has a fairly nice ambiance. Nice murals on the walls and light fixtures that are welcoming. My father had been there before for breakfast and had a decent experience. After dining there for dinner, I can see that breakfast/lunch may be the way to go. Dinner service needs some tweaking. We went in on a Friday night, and it was not that good. We were the first and only customers for quite a while. The first thing we noticed was the almost empty Salt and Pepper Shakers on the table and the lack of silverware. The Hostess sat us and gave us our menus. The Hostess/Waitress seemed to need more training. She came back and took our drink and food orders but did not provide silverware until after the food arrived and we had to ask for it. We ordered Iced Tea but were not offered sugar. I went to the bar area and got it myself. She was also the only waitstaff for the evening. The bar was full of wine bottles, but no wine list was provided. The food came out fairly quickly. The Fajitas were okay but came with green rice that my Dad did not like the taste or color of. I ordered (3) Carne Asada tacos. They arrived with Salsa and Pico de Gallo. The tacos consisted of cold tortillas, meat and an avocado slice on each. No cilantro, lettuce, cheese, onion or diced tomatoes...just meat and avocado. I've never had a taco like that. Also, the bar looked more like a storage area. Wine bottles and condiment caddies (Ketchup, Sugar, Salsa, etc.) were crowded on the counter along with boxes on the side wall. The excess items should have been in the back, out of view of the diners. As we were finishing our meal, more people came in and sat at two of the other tables. Once she took their orders, she began setting up for breakfast. We found this strange that she was doing this while diners were still there. We watched her remove tablecloths and set the condiment caddies on the tables. This action doesn't say "Please, come in and dine with us." It's more like, "Please, eat quickly so we can get set for breakfast and close for the night." It's a great location on the square and is surrounded by restaurants that were busy with the dinner crowd. Their breakfast/lunch game seems strong, but dinner service needs help. Hopefully, with more training and better management, things will improve. read more

I highly recommend getting the cauliflower tacos. I live far away and always stop by to get them when I'm in town. They are also a very good price. What a lovely experience! Would give them 10 stars if I could. Popped in here for breakfast since the deli next door was closed for Super Bowl which turned out to be an amazing stroke of luck. I'm vegan and they were super accommodating. They made a to-die-for!! avocado toast with smashed guac and the most brilliant spicy salsas on the side. My husband enjoyed his huevos Mexicana and cappuccino. Service was warm, kind, welcoming and friendly. Ambience was lively and fun. Our server Monze was the sweetest! We made same day morning reservations for brunch. We arrived and it was quite busy as expected for a busy holiday weekend, Memorial Day. There was also the car show.
