Monarch is a place everyone should try when in Dallas. All I can say is do the Chef's Tasting and Premier Wine Pairing. It's expensive ($175 pp) but the experience and the food is well worth it. You also have the à la carte option off the menu as well. The service was incredible, the atmosphere of being on the 49th floor and the spectacular view of the city was incredible. We went here on 8/9 after our engagement on the rooftop of the Thompson Hotel. In hindsight, should have gone to go to Dakota's where the steak would have been better. My fiance had stipulated in our reservation that we were celebrating our engagement. The waiter didn't make any mention of it nor ask if we were celebrating something special. It was $300 for a salad, steak, risotto, and 4 alcoholic beverages. We won't be going back as we had a much better experience at Mr. Charles where the cocktails aren't a bunch of ingredients that taste like salad dressing (Pretty Reckless) and service is impeccable. All we were told when we walked in was a table near window wasn't available. The bread/butter was the best part of meal. First off the service was amazing, so detailed and felt that i was receiving Michelin experience. The attention to detail and welcome was so sweet with a custom menu made for me. We came for dinner right around sunset and the views of Dallas did not disappoint. I'm the kind of person who would rather pay more for a good meal, than pay less and get mediocre food. The Monarch clearly provides a good meal, in a facility with great ambiance. In Dallas for the first time in many years, I searched for this kind of dining experience and found it at the Monarch. Greeted by a friendly and accommodating staff, I explained I was a solo diner without a reservation. Fortunately for me, they weren't too crowded and I was able to secure a white linen table next to the window which provided the view they are famous for. Water was promptly provided, and I was soon greeted by my waiter for the evening, Ignacio. Dressed most elegantly in a very professional looking suit, he went over the menu with me and answered my questions. Although they have a very nice selection of Italian dishes, I'm a sucker for game and ordered the venison, with a side of Black Truffle Risotto. As I was waiting for my meal, Ignacio served me a wonderful humus dip with parmesan chips. The dip was creamy and accentuated with Texas (!) olive oil. A great compliment to the dipping chips. I had a little further discussion with Ignacio about the Madera jus for my venison and suggested to him that the Chef could probably make me a reduction sauce from the jus as I feel that jus is too thin for the venison and a smooth reduction would provide a more appropriate coating for the venison. He promised to see what he could do. Soon thereafter, the main event. The venison arrived accompanied with the risotto and a thickened sauce. All were good, but at varying ends of production. The risotto was piping hot (most appreciated) while the venison, ordered medium rare, but cooked a little more than that, was more on the warm side. My thought was that the venison waited for the risotto to be done before being served. And the jus became thicker not by being a reduction but rather by the addition of cornstarch. I think I know why, making a reduction requires more time and attention, which I'm sure is why a tenderloin, that would greatly benefit from a reduction sauce, is served with a jus. As far as the venison was concerned, it was super tender and most pleasant. I would have put less peppercorns on it, yet it was a great partner for the risotto, which came out creamy and stayed hot throughout my dinner. The risotto seemed a tad salty for my taste, which was probably due to the abundant amount of cheese in the rice. Nevertheless, I would recommend Monarch to anyone seeking a good fine dining restaurant. read more

Monarch - Summer 2025 Tasting Menu I've been to Monarch a couple times, and they continue to deliver one of the most consistently excellent fine dining experiences in Dallas. We went for the Summer 2025 Tasting Menu, and it was absolutely worth the splurge. We started with a welcome bite of dry-aged prosciutto with olive oil and two little melon balls. Simple, classic, and delicious. A fresh oyster followed (briny and clean), and then a foie gras-stuffed cherry that was unexpectedly incredible. It completely stole the show from its forgettable plate-mate. 1st Course - California Sea Bass: Served with uni, nectarine, whipped fennel, and chive blossom. The presentation was beautiful, but the fish didn't quite stand out. It relied a bit too much on the supporting ingredients. Not bad, just not a highlight. 2nd Course - Hearth Smoked Tomato: Now this was a winner. Hand-pulled mozzarella, basil emulsion, pink peppercorns, and grilled focaccia. It's rustic but refined, and the flavors worked perfectly together. Easily one of my favorite courses of the night. 3rd Course - Roasted Dorade: This was excellent. Paired with summer squash, "clams casino," and saffron aioli, it hit all the right notes--elevated seafood that wasn't overdone. Clean, flavorful, and well-balanced. 4th Course - Doppio Ravioli: Corn ricotta filling, topped with freshly shaved Australian winter truffle and chanterelles. This dish was buttery and decadent in the best possible way. The truffle added a beautiful aroma, and the pasta was perfectly cooked. I could've eaten a whole plate. 5th Course - Rosewood Wagyu Filet: A big, bold dish served with salsa verde (more like chimichurri), handmade orecchiette, and summer peppers. Every element of this plate worked together beautifully. I loved the herbaceous bite of the salsa verde with the richness of the wagyu. A lemongrass granita followed to reset the palate, though I almost didn't want to lose the flavor of the steak. 6th Course - Tropical Dessert: Coconut passionfruit gelato, mango, and a pizzelle cookie. Creamy, fresh, and really well composed. The mango at the top and bottom created a beautiful layering effect with the gelato. We also ordered two bonus desserts: the tableside tiramisu and the chocolate cake. Both were fantastic--rich, satisfying, and beautifully plated. Wine Pairings: The pairings were well chosen and complemented each dish thoughtfully. The Listan Blanco with the second course and the Grenache with the wagyu were especially good. The sommelier wasn't the most charismatic person in the room, but he knew what he was doing. Service & Atmosphere: Monarch nails the vibe being luxurious but relaxed. The staff was friendly, attentive, and well-informed. Our server was interactive and clearly cared about the pacing and experience. The dining room is elegant without being stuffy, and the views from the space are as impressive as the food. Final Thoughts: Monarch's Summer 2025 Tasting Menu is a perfect blend of precision, creativity, and flavor. Each course built upon the last with intention. The ingredients were fresh, the plating was beautiful, and the atmosphere was upscale yet comfortable. Monarch remains one of my favorite spots in Dallas for a celebratory or special-occasion meal. I will start by saying that Monarch is definitely a place to go for a special occasion. This place is pricey, but absolutely delicious! The highlight of the meal was the wagyu that we ordered. It was a special one that our server said would ruin steak for us, because now no other steak that we would have after would be as good. She was right, that steak was probable the best that I've ever had! I highly recommend their pastas too, especially the lobster spaghetti. The amount of lobster that you get in the dish is worth the price. And the one thing I hate about seafood pastas is how fishy the pasta is, but the lobster spaghetti had none of that fishy taste at all. It was an absolutely delicious pasta with excellent presentation, as they served it in the actual lobster shell. Last thing, the table side tiramisu is to die for. So fresh and decadent. That almost ruined tiramisu for me as well, as I don't think any other would compare. Definitely worth the $35. I'm so glad that I was able to go to a restaurant like this, probably one of the best meals I've had. And don't forget to ask for a table in by the window. Another year - another anniversary dinner at Monarch. We were greeted in the lobby with glasses of sparkling wine. Then you take an elevator up to the 49th floor. We got there early and enjoyed some drinks at the bar. Then we were seated at a table next to the window. The view was spectacular. What was more spectacular was the service we received from Hash our Maître D' and the entire staff. Hash made sure every little detail was taken care of We started off with Fritto Misto. A sampler of calamari, prawns, halibut, herb aioli. It was great. Lena had the Shrimp Scampi Ravioli and I had the Veal Chop Parmigiana. The ravioli was delicious. So was the veal. The veal was the size of a hubcap. Plan on taking the leftovers home. Then came the worst part of the dining experience, leaving. Monarch Magic Monday I had a last minute dinner by myself at the Monarch on the 49th floor of the Thompson Hotel, and it was such a beautiful experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt well taken care of. Iman, my server, was amazing with a warm, attentive, and kind attitude. The view from my table was stunning city view. I started with fresh baked bread, marinated olives, and a mix of hamachi, tuna, and salmon crudo. Every bite was delicious and so fresh. For my main dish, I ordered the scampi ravioli, and it was everything I expected and more rich, flavorful, and just melted in my mouth. The chef even sent over a small asparagus dish, which was such a thoughtful surprise. There's a cool, elevated vibe at Monarch, but it still feels comfortable. Fine dining with just the right touch of ease and elegance. I would absolutely come back. Wow. A dedicated elevator takes you to the 48th floor for amazing views. The service is top notch, and the staff are all at the top of their game. We had a Napa Valley Cab. I'm a wine snob and it was good enough that we had a second glass each. We tried the octopus (perfectly charred), and the prociuto with burrata. Amazing. They also brought bread service, which was awesome, too. We both had halibut for dinner, perfectly cooked, with a fantastic sauce, and a side is truffled risotto. So good! We topped it off with the perfect slice of chocolate cake (shared). It had contrasting textures and was fabulous. Even the men's room had the most delightful view :-) I can see why they have a dress code. It adds to the vibe, which is at once trendy, classic and swanky without being posh or pretentious. Really disappointing experience at Monarch-my first (and last) time there. First, I apparently and accidentally reserved a "Happy Hour" table for dinner-my mistake intending for dining room/dinner reservation, but not at all clear on the website what "Happy Hour" reservation means-a small bar table. OK...that was my completely my bad. On check in, hostess said she could work us in for a proper dinner table-did not happen, so we took our seats at a small bar table and tried to make the best of it. Seated a full 30 minutes after our reservation, despite checking in 15 minutes ahead of time. First round of drinks-making the best of it... We ordered 3 courses; first was salmon/hamachi/tuna crudo and was really good. But then the wheels fell off. Server effectively disappeared; glasses (adult beverages and waters) empty for 30 minutes. After almost an hour from our order, 2nd (rigatoni) and 3rd (Strip Steak) courses served at the same time despite our request to sequence-rigatoni was room temperature and I suspect sat in the kitchen for some time before getting to our table, and "medium rare" steak was charred and cooked at least medium well. We left the food on the table; left the restaurant; and will not be back. Space is spectacular; views are even better. But this poor service from beginning to end does not cut it for Dallas high end dining. read more

We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and had high expectations given the restaurant's upscale reputation -- unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to it. We started our evening near the bar for happy hour to enjoy the full experience. The beef tartare was fresh but underwhelming compared to others I've had around the city. The drinks, however, were spot on. Once we moved to our reserved window table -- which had a lovely view and elegant ambiance -- we were welcomed with a large celebration card featuring my friend's name. That was a really nice touch. We began with focaccia bread and meatballs; the bread was decent, but the meatballs were far too salty. We did, however, expect a complimentary welcome glass of champagne (something we'd seen mentioned in several reviews), but that never happened. Our server didn't add much to the experience and made us feel a bit rushed throughout the meal. For mains, we had the veal Parm, which was thin and pretty basic, though the side of mushrooms was delicious. The shrimp were tasty but nothing memorable, and the Caesar salad was heavy-handed with the dressing. The highlights of the night were the New Zealand white wine we chose, the gorgeous view, and the tiramisu we shared at the end. our experience at Monarch was amazing! we visited for my wife's birthday, and I was even messaged ahead of time asking for her name to put on a personalized menu. the wait staff offered excellent service and gave me a tip to visit the restaurant's 360 roof view on the next floor up after dinner. the view of Dallas from 49 & 50 floors up was obviously beautiful at sunset and at dark. the food was so tasteful and I couldn't get enough! the leftovers were even as great as we remembered. we ordered the foccocia bread with whipped ricotta to start, with entrees of Momma's spicy rigatoni alla vodka and fire roasted lasagna diana, and a side of charred creamed corn. This place is not good. I'm so sorry but someone needs to call the Michelin man to come take his recommendation back. The server we had was EXTREMELY nice. I'm not going to gripe about service people because I know they're trying their best and their job sucks especially on a busy Friday night. However the service was TERRIBLY slow. We waited OVER an HOUR for our food. When we got it I hated my steak and sent it back. It just wasn't good. My friend sent her lobster back too. The ambience is OK, but there is way better out there in Dallas. For instance, Drake's steak and dessert beats this any day. Rises soufflé is way better and half the price. I have no idea how they got the Michelin recommendation. Super overpriced, food was mid tier, service was slow, and the atmosphere was just OK.... We went to the special Valentine's Day dinner. Everything is decadent, from the glass of champagne for the ride up the elevator, to the amazing views. The food was great for the most part. The crab add on was way too salty, and we love salt so it's takes a lot for us to say that. Our server was hospitable, the sommelier was good except the two bottles of wine he suggested were both over $300 a bottle. We were sat in an area that had constant traffic, so I took off one star for that. We were told during the reservation process that to sit in a booth right next to the window we would have to pay a pretty hefty upcharge. After dinner we went upstairs to walk around the indoor viewing deck. The view was beautiful and great for photo ops. Overall we would probably visit again for a special occasion. read more

I personally ordered the Filet Mignon for my entree, and it was excellent! It was cooked just right and had lots of flavor. I will say that the portion sizes of all of the entrees were very small so you will need to order a couple sides to get full. For sides, we ordered the garlic whipped potatoes and green beans. The potatoes were very savory and had a nice consistency to it. The green beans complimented our entrees nicely. As for dessert, we ordered the Chocolate Cake. It was delicious and the perfect way to end off our meal. Overall, this is the best restaurant I have gone to in Dallas and one of the best meals I've ever had. We visited this restaurant on a Saturday at 6pm. Traffic downtown wasn't bad. Valet was the easiest option when it came to parking. The views here are fantastic! I highly recommend getting a window table. Way better experience wise! The food was amazing. I loved the beef carpaccio and blackened octopus. The scallops were unbelievable and the truffle risotto is an absolute must. The mashed potatoes were ok. I'd be fine with never having those again. The asparagus was good but didn't blow me away. Absolutely Awful Hostess Experience - Left Without Eating I don't usually leave reviews this harsh, but the "welcome" we received at this restaurant on 8/31/25 (Labor Day weekend) was one of the worst I've ever experienced. We arrived without a reservation but literally made one in front of the hostesses on OpenTable for 15 minutes later. I even showed it to them. Their response? A snide, "For your information we use the website for booking." Excuse me? I did use the website. From that point forward, the young female hostesses (with hair straight out of Edward Scissorhands) treated us with open disrespect. While we waited, they made comments about a party member's attire not meeting the dress code. Meanwhile, I pointed out over a dozen men without jackets happily seated inside. Their smug answer? "Well, they're seated already and you're not." The double standard and condescension were unbelievable. It didn't stop there. When we asked about a signature, widely advertised dish, they snapped back that they "told us in the beginning" it wasn't served in the main dining room. No, they absolutely did not. But instead of helping, they doubled down as if we had made it up. For the record, Efrin the manager and our server were incredible--they tried to salvage the evening, and I genuinely appreciate their professionalism. Unfortunately, the host stand is the first impression of any fine dining restaurant, and these hostesses were a complete disaster. The disrespect, arrogance, and lack of basic hospitality were so abhorrent we walked out without eating. That should tell you everything. If the management cares at all about this restaurant's reputation, they need to seriously retrain or replace the hostesses who worked that evening. The views are nice, I love the food! I ordered a steak and it was amazing. The caesar salad that I got was unique, stood out from others I've had. The service was quick, didn't have to wait long. My partner got the rigaton9i and that was really good. Our waiter was pretty nice and explained a few things to us. Looking forward to coming back! read more

I wish I had taken more photos but sadly I didn't. My husband and I have went to plenty of restaurants of this caliber and I have to say, this one is now a favorite. The service is fantastic due to their knowledge of food allergies and also just the charisma of our particular server. Everything we ate was cooked perfectly and the wait wasn't too long even though they were packed. When one of our ladies didn't like a drink, they replaced it with another option swiftly. I think if you want some excellent food with a good view and great service, this is it. I suggest the filet, mashed potatoes, and truffle risotto. Makes for a lovely date night. Set on a super high floor in the Thompson hotel, the interior is absolutely stunning and our private room had a phenomenal view of the skyline. Intimate yet spacious, it was perfect for our group of 15-20. The food was solid. The spicy rigatoni is definitely the absolute highlight, just as good as advertised. Great service!
