Monkey business is a bomb breakfast spot! It is smaller and cozy but very open and bright at the same time. All the servers/employees are super nice and very attentive! The food comes out quick and is always SUPER delicious!! All the plates are also a good size, I was super full with my BREAKFAST BOWL! Definitely Recommend this place!! read more

Glad I found this place, was trying to drop things off and this is down the street from Amazon/costco. This place works as a fast food joint. You order first and then find your own seat. We ordered the chilaquiles and breakfast burrito. I have finally found a good chilaquiles around the area. Didn't add any protein, it was just good as it is. My husband wants to try something else because he thought the place was good. Burrito was just ok. The coffee had a cinnamon taste to it so we prolly won't buy another cup of coffee. To get a refill on coffee and water, you have to go up to the register every single time. Water cups are small too. Which leads to a tip. You tip when you pay, but if you get them a decent tip and then you get no service? What's the point if you have to do everything yourself. read more

Hate to say something awful about a place with a great cause, but if I'm spending over $20 on a breakfast, I should be able to eat it. The hash browns were so oily it leaked through the takeout container. The cheese in my breakfast sandwich was not there, primarily bc it was burnt so much you couldn't recognize it. The bread of the sandwich, was rubbery and hard to bite through it was so over done. It was pretty much awful and I'm really sad about it since I was starving! Go for the cause, not the food. read more

I came here with my friend who raves about the chicken tortilla soup. I had the tuna melt with tater tots. It's called the monkey melt. The sandwich was on a nicely grilled sourdough bread with cheese on it. They put two types of cheese on the tuna and fresh tomato. The tuna itself was flavorful, but a little drippy. They put a yummy lemony salt on the tots. The tater tots were nice and hot. My friend had the chicken tortilla soup. It looked delicious. The salsa that they give you is fantastic. The ambience is a cutely decorated restaurant with a monkey theme and nice murals on the wall. The neighborhood surrounding the restaurant is a very quaint Fullerton neighborhood. Now for the service... we were greeted at the door by a sweet young lady named Mercedes. She was attentive and friendly. The person at the counter who took our order was an older lady. Well when we arrived we were greeted,, they gave us menu's then said it was self seating.. the space is small but there is also seating outside. once we found a table inside we looked over the menu. The menu is rather basic. We decided what we wanted to order, but we had to go back to the register and place our order..the food arrived...we had ordered two basic pancakes...the pancakes were cold and they tasted like they have been sitting there for a while. There was no whipped butter. They only had the butter in foil wrap. The So Cal Breakfast Burrito was delicious. Next time I will ask for well done hash browns, because mine were under cooked and I like the crunch of a well done hash brown. Their red salsa was good and definitely added flavor. I ordered by phone to pick-up to go. Helpful staff and my burrito was bagged and ready when promised. I live close and plan to go again and eat in to try more of their food items. read more

Neat little restaurant tucked away. It makes you feel at home the vibes are pretty and colorful. You order and pay than sit down. The parking is not ideal very few spots but you can park on the streets. The service was super quick! The chilaquiles were so good I would definitely come back!. read more

Food was fire! I personally ordered the so-called burrito. You got thick cut bacon, plenty of avocado, and delicious hash browns. The only complaint I had was that the salsa that it came with was a bit watery for me. My brother ordered the outlaw burger. He said it was great. He let me have some of the tater tots and I really enjoyed the seasoning they put on it. The chilaquiles came out looking beautiful. Nice amount of avocado on top. I went to Monkey Business with my daughters today and the food and service were amazing! The restaurant is so well maintained and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I ordered the green chilaquiles and they were perfectly made. My daughters had the breakfast burrito which they loved as well! Oh and they have amazing iced coffee and matcha! This is a dishonest establishment. I ordered food from the menu for my family and the menu price was less than the price on my receipt. When I brought it to the attention of the cashier, she basically said her manager configured the new prices in their system and she can't honor the menu price, which was $2 less. She then asked if I want to just cancel my food. So instead of honoring the menu price, which was clear, she suggested I cancel my order altogether and refused to change the price to match the advertised menu price. I understand that costs are increasing, but I feel it's wrong to charge a customer a higher price than what is on their menu. I ordered in person at the restaurant. If you want to increase your prices, at least take the time to update your menu price as well. This is false advertisement and it's wrong. I won't even mention the price from their online menu, which is also way less. It shows this establishment has hiked their prices up substantially in the last year or two. We won't be going back to this dishonest establishment. read more

This place was packed! Which I can understand for a holiday Monday. The set up is very cozy. Some patrons were even making water-color art while eating and talking. It was cute to witness. Parking is limited so carpool if you can. I got the breakfast bowl and my sister got the SoCal burrito. I wasn't able to get pictures of the food but they have photos of a ton of their dishes near the cashier. I 100% recommend the breakfast bowl if you want something breakfast-y but not traditional. I would skip on the SoCal burrito as it's nothing special. I would come here again if I was in the area. There are lots of cool places near it. read more

I had a brunch with my girls and honestly the service was not it. The girl taking our order had some attitude and was not happy looking. Our food got to us quick actually and was divine. The breakfast burrito was probably my favorite and the breakfast sandwich was really good, I love the salsa that the burrito came with- perfect amount of spice! THEY DO NOT WASH THIER SALAD GREENS! THRIPS! Thrip bugs were in the Berry salad (no avocado added chicken) I ordered. I had eaten about half of the salad by the time I noticed. I cried puked I was in complete disbelief there were these tiny bugs in my salad that could FLY!! It was a horror movie in real life. I called to let them know what happened and the girl that answered the phone didn't seem to really care she just told me to call back on Wednesday when the manager was in which was 3 days away. We were immediately given menus and told we could sit anywhere we would like There were many options on the menu that looked good, but we decided to get Roy's Ricotta Pancakes and the SoCal Burrito. I'm usually not a big fan of vegetables and tend to be picky, I wanted to go all in and really taste the freshness for myself. I ordered the breakfast bowl, and I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The ingredients tasted incredibly fresh, and the tater tots were some of the best I've had in a long time. My partner and I eat here pretty regularly and I have loved the ambiance and the food since day one. More recently I've noticed a change in the attitude of head of house and the food. Today we got served two burnt pancakes. Burnt to the point where I'm not sure what to say. I flipped over both pancakes and it just worse. A good place in Fullerton to grab a quick breakfast. I heartily recommend tasting the incredibly soft and delicious pancakes. I had to try the chilaquiles because I had heard they were excellent here, and they weren't bad at all. They should, in my opinion, concentrate on making substitutions simpler. For example, I wanted to swap out two of the pork sides in a plate for chicken, but they insisted that I couldn't, even though doing so meant eliminating two additional meat options. To be honest, their suggestion to swap them out for fruit didn't seem to make sense. However, aside from that, speedy service and a delicious breakfast. read more

No monkey business going on here! We've driven past Monkey Business Cafe for years now but never got around to trying it until a few weeks ago. Pretty delicious and very reasonably priced! We tried the Javi's breakfast sandwich and the banana walnut pancakes, both of which were quite tasty. The pancakes were my fave - huge and fluffy and good banana flavor. Parking can be limited in the dedicated lot, but street parking is available. Service is friendly and food comes out quick! Monkey Business Cafe prides itself on serving fresh and healthy food to the community.

History

Established in 2005.

Hart Community Homes was founded in 1996 to assist youth placed in the foster care system. We operate two state-licensed residential treatment homes in Orange, CA for boys ages 13-18. We provide services and support until our youth are emancipated successfully into the community. Youth "aging-out" of the foster care system at the age of 18 with out adequate independent living skills has been a growing national concern for decades. The consequences of inadequate employment training and support have intensified conditions of homelessness, poverty and unemployment. In 2005, Hart Community homes opened Monkey Business Café, a 501c3 non profit social enterprise, in direct response to the need for further support. Monkey Business Café participants work one-on-one with a job coach to foster a pathway to success that includes work experience, employability skills and living skills. All proceeds from Monkey Business Cafe directly benefit the programs of Hart Community Homes.

This was a lip-smacking, reach-for-another-bite kind of sandwich. We didn't have time to dive into the beer selection, but there were plenty of tempting options. So Today (February 15, 2017), after dropping-off my vehicle for repairs, I began contemplating whether to take a round-trip 'SURFLINER" train ride from Fullerton-to-San-Diego-and-back. Suddenly, my tapeworm began screaming-out for attention. I remember how I saw a small café in my peripheral vision, while driving down a side street in Downtown Fullerton. It is a good thing that I have never owned A Smart Phone, An Iphone, or An Ipad, because unlike most who do, I still have the capacity to exercise peripheral vision (but I digress). Any way, I recall seeing a restaurant called "Monkey Business Café." Consequently, my hoofies began heading away from the Fullerton Santa Fe Train Depot, in the direction of Fullerton College. I was greeted by A-Most-Pleasant Lass named Lindsay. I ordered the "McMonkey Breakfast," which consisted of an egg-Applewood smoked bacon-sausage biscuit and potatoes washed-down with coffee. For Those who have read some of my prior reviews, You know that I am Brutally-Honest. Well I (as well as my tapeworm), was pleasantly-surprised how FRESH everything was, and I will definitely be returning to this eatery. I only have one complaint. Well, actually it is more of a suggestion than a complaint. The mission statement of this eatery should be included on the menus. Had I not been The Obnoxious Inquiring Customer which I usually am, I would have not known the following.: 1. Monkey Business Café provides teenagers and young adults an opportunity to be employed in a business learning environment. Their program is designed for a six-month commitment, where the young adults learn the skills necessary to become a productive employee in the workforce, as well as becoming a self-sufficient adult. 2. Participants work one-on-one with a job coach to foster a pathway to success that includes work experience, employability skills, and living skills. And 3. Additionally, Monkey Business Café supports organic coffee suppliers, farmers, and those in transition from pesticide-free to certified organic farming. Organic coffee growing helps to maintain an ethical partnership between consumers, farmers, and the environment. (well, that explains why everything tasted So-Fresh !) I spoke with a few customers who all loved the food. However, some of them did not know about the community-related endeavors involving this eatery. As Herr Trump and Herr pence continue to lead this nation down the corporate fascist rabbit hole, as someone who coaches . Mentors young female surfers from around-the-world, having spoken to Lindsay and becoming aware of Monkey Business Café, actually gave me some Hope for the future of the next generation of young people. I highly-recommend this eatery. However, more-importantly, I highly-recommend that Anyone who is concerned with The Future of The Youth of this nation, to consider supporting their organization, which is always seeking more volunteers and sponsors. We came here on Sunday 10/16/16. Me and my boyfriend have always wanted to come here and try it out so when Sunday came around we thought lets do it. We had to be at my boyfriends soccer game and were on a time restraint so we decided to call in for a to go order and just pick it up to eat on our way. We live in La Habra border line Whittier so we are about 15-20 minutes away. We placed our order, which wasn't even a big one it was only a wrap and a sandwich. The girl on the phone let me know that my sandwich was going to be made without avocado because they ran out and that our order will be ready in 20-25 minutes. We thought perfect! we will have enough time to pick it up and eat it on the way or when we get there, mind you we hadn't eaten anything that morning so we were starving. We get there, asked for our order and the girl looks blankly at us and that's when we knew they didn't even get our order in! They girl then proceeds to ask the guy behind her about the order and the guy looked like he could care less that the order wasn't put in he just said to her in a oh well that's what happens voice, "guess no one put it in". She then proceeded to ask us what we ordered and who was the person I talked to. I didn't ask a name of who took my order I never do, I never felt the need to, but I guess I'll be changing that now. After we told her we didn't know the name she just said sorry and asked me if I wanted to place the order there of course we didn't want to the whole reason we place the order over the phone was so that we can just pick and leave right away. You would think it must have fell through the cracks because they are really busy but it wasn't that busy they had no wait and there was plenty of open tables. The customer service there was not very caring at all it was almost like we didn't matter and one less order wasn't going to bother them. We were only given one small sorry. In the end we left with no food and very starving. By the time we left there we didn't have any time to stop any where else and my boyfriend had to play his 2 soccer games on an empty stomach. Yes it was a packed house but I could have forgiven the wait time had I not seen 4 tables that came after me not only having their order taken but 1 table that I was seated with was already eating before anyone even came to talk to me, literally 20-25 mins. I had spent the day with my mom up the road in St. Jude Hospital and my son was growing restless so I went on a mission to find him pancakes at 1 in the afternoon. Sure I could have taken him to Denny's or something but their name indicated he might enjoy this place, plus the food pics looked AMAZING and after a long morning with no breakfast I was STARVING! We were seated at the back wall facing the wall... after my 20 something minute wait of being ignored I then sat for 6 minutes just facing the register hoping to make eye contact... finally just called someone over and explained my frustrations. The girl was kind and appologized said she would have the kitchen make mine first so I set the timer just too see what "first" looked like. I soon realized I had to get back to the hospital so I was going to cancel my order but my son was so hungry and asked to take it to go. He ate in the car and I continued my fast. The disappointed continued when I finally got home and was able to eat and my chicken flautas were just rolled tortillas with cheese and chicken... so sides, no sauce and cilantro as pictured. Monkey Business Cafe is definitely my favorite breakfast place in Fullerton. It might even be my favorite breakfast spot in all of Orange County! It's THAT good. The pancakes are fluffy and delicious. The omlettes are big and full of toppings, fillings (?). The coffee is INCREDIBLE. The chicken is full of flavor. I can keep going. This place is Fullerton's best kept secret. The mission statement is also something that sets this place apart from any other restaurants in the area. They employ foster teenagers and train them to give them valuable work skills (sometimes the service is a bit iffy, but it's because they are teaching these teenagers how to be good employees). I went in Wednesday afternoon to grab a cup of coffee and a late breakfast and everything was perfect. The server Rachel (I think her name was?) was so friendly and upbeat. My coffee was quickly refilled when ever I needed it, the food order came out shortly after ordering it and it was nice and warm. I ordered a breakfast burrito and my brother ordered the berries and cream waffles. I loved my burrito but when I saw his plate approach the table, I second guessed my decision a little. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Save your money, the food is not good at all. I don't know how this place has so many good reviews. We were told 20 min till we were seated. My boyfriend and ended up waiting almost a hour and started talking to another couple that had arrived after we had. The host then called the couples name that we had been talking to and they had to tell the host that we were there before them and the host was so oblivious. Even though I asked many times when we would be seated and he clearly stated that there were 3 tables before us, they called the couple that put there name in after us! I have never seen so many disorganized humans running around like chickens with their head cut off and have the nerve to call themselves employees of the service industry. We were finally seated and it took forever to get our food and when it came it was wrong but we were so upset already we didn't even send it back. DO NOT COME HERE. If I could give a 0 I would. Lets start of with the fact that they have no customer service. If you don't like your job just quit no need to take it out on paying guest. The cuisine is okay, but nothing spectacular. I ordered huevos rancheros and a Cali burrito. Both were substantial and satisfied us, although they were only adequate. It's a nice spot to hang out because they don't rush you and the cuisine is delicious enough that you won't regret spending your money and will leave with a full tummy. Personally, I would return if I wanted something that I knew would strike the spot. As for the food itself, I can't say the flavors were as heartwarming. The chilaquiles were decent; not overly flavored, but not lacking either. It was simply an average dish for me. I found myself wishing it had more toppings; cotija cheese, sour cream, and more avocado would have elevated the dish. I thought the Monterey chicken sandwich was merely okay. I came for the chilaquiles. Conveniently located in Downtown Fullerton with a relaxing outdoor setting & very interesting indoor setting. Prices for the food were average. Service was great. Food tasted amazing! The chilaquiles were a 10/10 in spice level with tons of flavor. Tortillas where still a little crunchy, not soggy at all. I got mine with an over easy egg on top. They topped it with cilantro and red onion and cotija? cheese. Very little sour cream for my taste. The cilantro and onion gave it a great flavor. I also got the potatoes on the side. Those were average. They could of had a bit more flavor. The inside of the place was super interesting. All tables were different & so were the chairs. Cool! read more

Horrible experience. I came in with my baby, husband and mother in law. We wanted to send on an outer table because we had the stroller, waitress with like pinkish hair was not having it. We still pushed for it as it was cramped and didn't want to be in the way, she then comes over to the table throes the menus and silverware on the table and says "sit wherever you want" runs off and is bumping into chairs on her way to the register. We were shocked of how she acted and immediately walked out. We saw her super mad talking to her co workers. Very upset with this experience. We lived a few houses away and enjoyed eating here. I was really impressed with Monkey Business Cafe. The minute you walk in it feels like a small town, very personal, diner with a casual atmosphere. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was delicious but what put it over the top for me was when I asked for a side of jalapeño, they roasted it and almost "personalized," my order. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that the service was a little scatter brained. In the same way I liked how laid back the atmosphere was, I think the service was a little relaxed too. Second time here. Ordered chocolate chip pancakes, but my Betty Crocker pancakes at home taste better. My husband ordered chilaquiles with pulled pork which he liked but I didn't since they are very short of authentic Mexican chilaquiles. The service was great and the food came out on a reasonable amount of time, no problems there. There was no wait today (Thursday at 8:30am), however first time I went was on a Sunday morning and the wait was 40 minutes. I will only come again if the hubby drags me back here. read more

Love love love this little café And there cause. My go to is always the veggie omelette with hashbrowns, the strawberry salad is good also and so is the outlaw that I make it with chicken breast instead of beef, oh the onion rings....So good! They also have a great variety of Mexican food. Some of their food is grown at Cal State Fullerton by the kids who work here. They even make homemade sweet potato pies during Thanksgiving, I've ordered them for my clients and got raving reviews. read more

Tried Monkey Business this morning for the first time with a friend. I ordered a green tea and the Berries-n-Cream Waffles; my friend ordered the SoCal breakfast burrito. The waffles were amazing, the lemon crème fraiche was a unique twist and the berries were sweet. The environment was mellow and relaxing. Stopped by for the first time today. I have driven past many times and didn't even know they were a restaurant. Let me tell you how happy I am to have stopped and checked them out. The manager with the glasses suggested I try their Chilaquiles and a Virgin Michelada. Both were delicious. I had lunch here a few days ago with a few of my friends. The place reminds of a paul frank store with monkeys on the wall and very fun colors. I ordered the breakfast burger and chili fries. While the burger was good, the chili fries were lacking. I got the burger with a brioche bun and it came with an egg on the burger...yum! While ordering, I asked the cashier regarding a kids pancake which comes with an egg and an option of either bacon or sausage. My family eats only halal, so neither of those options would work for us. Therefore, I asked if there could be any substitute like hashbrowns or fruits. (I don't think it's unreasonable) the girl behind the cash register was new and so still in training, and didn't know how to do the substitution. So She called over the manager, Antonio, who came and very rudely goes "oh we're not going to do that." "You don't have to get that, etc. I was pretty annoyed and offended and literally didn't want to deal with him anymore so I told the trainee to go ahead and still ring it up just hold off the meat and asked him to leave since I didn't want to communicate with him. Our order arrives. Food is mediocre at best. We ordered the avocado toast, veggie omelette and a kids pancake with drinks to include juices and an iced caramel latte. My son who loves pancakes barely eats his because it's burned at the bottom. He refuses to eat. I then asked the server (same girl from the front), if she can remake the pancake since it's burned and my kid isn't eating it. She takes the plate away and says yeah we can do that. 5 mins later she comes back and says, the manager said, "that you would have to repurchase another pancake and that we wouldn't remake it" i don't like to make a fuss nor do I usually try to make issues for establishments but I think that a request to remake a kids pancake when the one you initially made was burned is reasonable for me to ask. so when my husband intervened, and spoke with the manager, his reply was, "I don't want to remake the pancake," when my husband asked him why? "I just don't want to. We have plumbing issues and I have the right to refuse service to anyone" The point though is we paid for a service that was not provided adequately. And when a business works on the ground of no ethics and courtesy, I find it fair game to let the public be aware that this is how they run things, letting them deal with the consequences of their actions.
