Monster Kimbap in Lomita is such a great little find if you're looking for something fast, fresh, and satisfying. It's located in a small local strip plaza. The parking can get a little tough during busy times, since there's only street parking or a small little lot a couple of stores down. The ambiance is fun and cute. It's definitely more of a grab-and-go spot than a full sit-down restaurant. Most of the food is already prepared and ready to pick up, which makes it perfect if you're in a hurry. There are only two small tables, and we got lucky enough to snag one during our visit. They also sell different varieties or Korean snacks and drinks within the store. There's also cute merchandise such as teas, baseball caps, and little trinkets. When we arrived, there were only a few food items left to choose from. We picked up the tteokbokki, beef kimbap, and a bulgogi rice bowl. When we went to pay, the owner surprised us with a free soba noodle salad, which was such a kind and thoughtful gesture -little moments like that really make a place stand out. They were so nice and friendly there. Everything was also delicious and comforting, especially the tteokbokki which had just the right amount of spice. Don't come in expecting a supermarket selection - most of their food is fresh and made to order. Order online at the Gardena location or shoot an early-morning text to the people at Lomita. Be patient - they're still quite new, but their food is well worth the effort. 5 stars for the Tteok-bokki. Looks like gnocchi, eats like hard mochi. Perfect texture, flavor right on. Wings are crispy, perfectly fried. Honey Butter has that addictive factor, and I forgot the other flavor, but I'd eat either again. Love all the Kimbap. All delicious, rice texture on point, well-balanced, and flavors just come down to personal preference. I didn't expect to like the Cheese, but they make the the flavors work well together. Bibimbap is just like what you'd get in a bowl, Tofu is an excellent vegetarian option, and Tuna Salad is good if you're craving it. My favorite is the Bulgogi. I prefer the beef, but the pork is good as well. No wrong orders here - everything is fantastic. The Lomita location is less easy to navigate with the text-orders and spotty street parking, but I do think they're worth the time and effort. Decided to visit a new kimbap place, awesome to have options. Initially when I walked in, I was disappointed that the food was pre-prepared, but it didn't deter me enough to not support a local business and give it a shot. I'm happy I did, I could immediately tell the ingredients in my tuna and cheese kimbaps were really high quality. The veggies were all crunchy, the rice wasn't stale, and overall it was really tasty. I especially enjoyed the mustard sauce, how genius to make a sauce out of the Korean yellow mustard. When I read the title, I initially thought it was like yellow American mustard which sounded kinda gross, but I'm happy I tried it because it's like a top 5 tasting sauce for me now. It's sweet and yummy if you don't mind that wasabi or horseradish type of heat. Only downside was the kimbap wrapping. I feel like it was a little sloppy and not tight because I had more than a few pieces unraveling. The flavor though, made up for it. Store was pretty bare, I wasn't really getting the convenience fast grab and go vibe. It was pretty sparse, and for not having tried many of these products before, maybe some extra info or even samples would help me make the jump to try something new. I think the price point is just high enough where I decided to pass on trying other things. Service was nice and friendly but pretty basic when it came to guiding customers through the store idea. I stopped by to finally check this place out during a quick lunch break. This is a family owned business and the person who kindly gave me a tour said her aunt has been making Korean food for over 25 years. It started as a small business in Gardena and they have now expanded to a storefront in Lomita, making amazing Korean staples even more accessible in the South Bay. I was blown away. First, I tried the Tuna and Bulgogi Kimbap with a side of the Korean mustard sauce. It was delicious!!! It's made fresh every morning in Gardena and the store owner brings it herself everyday. There is a "make your own" instant ramen station where you'll find bowls and varieties of instant ramen and Korean sauces, and seasonings to truly make it your own. They have a huge selection of Korean drinks and recommendations for mixing drinks. You can pick them individually and she prepares a cup of ice for you to mix together. Apparently this is common in Korean culture and it was fun to do! I went with their recommended watermelon ade and strawberry milk. They also have Korean snacks, bottled sauces, and other fun stuff from Korea. Such a lovely place to spend some time in. It warms my heart to hear that a small family business is beloved by so many people and has expanded into a storefront. You can tell by the extremely positive reviews how fantastic this place is. I have seen this place for the past couple months when eating at El Jacalito across the street on Narbonne. The storefront has been a series for clothing stores since the florist that one was a fixture in Lomita closed down. The members of my lunch crew were surprised the space had the infrastructure for a kitchen. We intended to have a sit-down lunch. That is not what this place is. It is grab and go kimbap. There are a couple chairs, but basically the spot is not set up to stay and eat. Keep in mind that parking can also be a challenge. This is a cute small business. Employees are very nice, and everything is clean and tidy. First time I came here was on a weekend after 12, and they had sold out of gimbap. They said more would be arriving in 10-15 minutes, but unfortunately I didn't have time to wait. This last time I came just after 11 and they had items in stock. I grabbed a few gimbaps. Everything was very fresh. I can see how some might have an issue with the value or taste, as it's not super cheap, and the items without beef in them were a tiny bit bland. Terrible customer service, but why? We attended the soft opening and because it was close to us we also recommended to our neighbors and friends. We would regularly go and walk down to pick up some refreshments and food. Customer service was hit or miss but today it was the worst! I walked in and the woman was just looking at me and laughing. She then attempted to have a conservation with me which I welcome since we can all have off days. I then look around since the layout changed a little bit since the opening. I asked her for a simple cup of ice and just said "it's in the back", I have it there" I may be assuming too much but ice is a random topic for conversation I would assume if someone says "I would like to buy the cup of ice for a refreshment" that it would be as simple as bringing a cup of ice out to purchase as they do sell it. We live in a little city so I was super pumped when I saw this place open not only does it have unique and different foods but the atmosphere and staff are amazing. I've tried several different menu options including the kimchi Grilled cheese, the ribs and shrimp kimbap... everything was made perfectly, great portions for the price and always served with a smile.
