This is one of the cheaper AYCE kbbq places now. I came here for lunch and got the regular ACYE option. Good thing I did because it was so much food and so good! They have a self serve section of all the banchan sides, which was great. No need to wait around to get more. I loved how they played music by Norcal artists here. Great music! Saturday evening, winter. Nothing like a Korean BBQ to quench your hunger. Visiting SoCal and just concluding our visit to Universal Studios, we head out to Korea Town to satisfy our craving. We head out to Moon BBQ2. It's a little fuzzy, but I recollect we have been here before. Super tight parking on a corner street a valet will help you navigate parking for a nominal fee. The weekend is packed with patrons, we opted to eat in their outside tent area. The cooking burners blazing away ward off the chill from outside. We ordered the usual meat selection. As always, it is hard not to fault anything in a Koran BBQ. However, I do liked a cut of meat that they offered. It is unfortunate I didn't catch the name of that meat, but it's best described as a thin rib-eye like cut of beef. It was tender with the right amount of marbling. There is a visceral feel eating Koran BBQ outside in the parking lot in Korea Town nonetheless. Mood BBQ2 sure did did hit the spot. A solid KBBQ place if you're on BUDGET. Me and my friends always go to Castle BBQ across the street. However, when I heard Castle was closes and this place is basically the same with Castle, we decided to try it. Upon arrival there is a line already! We are seated within 10 minutes. Upon seating I can tell there is still a Castle BBQ vibe with some management changes obviously. Now, they are required you to pay up front before seating. We went for option A (the cheapest one at $18.99). Some of my favorite cuts are the brisket, bulgogi, and the pork belly. The quality of the meat is OK. You can tell that it's been pre cut or frozen (possibly). However, with $18.99 dollar price, i feel like it should be expected. When we went to this place, the service was great. There are one guy who payed close attention to every table, which I found it interesting, because I don't remember Castle BBQ service was this good. I was craving KBBQ and wanted to try some place new. I visited Moon BBQ #2 today with my partner and I thought it was weird that they asked us to pay BEFORE we dined in. Whatever I did it anyways and did menu C. I tried to overlook the dingy decor, really strange remixed music and very run down environment. I was really hoping the meat would blow me away. When they brought out the meats the color looked off. I could tell the meat had been sitting out for a while because it looked almost grey and murky colored. I HOPED cooking it might improve the taste. The meat was tough, chewy, and didn't taste fresh at all. The salad bar was kind of disappointing as well. Everything looked like it had been sitting out all day and hadn't been replenished or cleaned up. Honestly I didn't know you could mess up KBBQ, but they managed to do that. The good news is there's a 7-Eleven across the street where I had to pull over and buy Pepto since I know I'm going to have some food poisoning on my way home. I can tell I'm going to vomit. When you arrive at this restaurant you are expected to pay for your meal. before you are sat down. This was priced at $23.50 and includes beef, chicken, and pork. All the meat is good quality. Waiters are attentive and replace your grill as needed. There are other items you can order at an additional cost like steamed egg, corn cheese and more expensive meat cuts.) I like this restaurant because they have a "salad bar" with all the banchan. Eating here was delicious for a standard kbbq price. We paid before being seated, and the price was about $20 per person for the simple menu. Our options were about 6-7 meat items, to name a few: beef/pork bulgogi, small intestine, beef strip, pork steak, marinated chicken. The salad bar is unlimited, but you will have to ask the servers for more. Servers were all kind and helpful. They checked in enough times and got everything we requested in a timely manner. For the price, the meat selection seemed limited but still delicious. Our table was also in a corner that felt a little close to others (tables outside, under a tent, are available past 6:00pm). Cheap all-you-can-eat kbbq. The funny thing is that my friends and I were originally going to eat at Castle BBQ, but it somehow got moved to this place during COVID. The price has gone up a bit apparently. The meat was decent for the price, but not as tasty as other places I've been to. I liked their bulgogi the best. They could expand their menu a bit (we picked menu B). Perhaps add beef tongue, beef belly, kimchi fried rice, idk. Just seemed lacking a little. The service here was better than other kbbq places. The nice thing about Korean Barbecue places in Los Angeles, as compared to Sacramento's is first and foremost, the price! Los Angeles is cheaper by a significant amount...and has the same price whether or not you come in during lunch or dinner. Sacramento's will have a different price for lunch or dinner visits. The fare for an all-you-can-eat is pretty much the same across all Korean barbecue places, and the taste is pretty much the same as well. What separates them will be on price and service. The pricing for Moon Daepo is already affordable, but without sacrificing great service from its staff! I have never seen staff this active and friendly at a Korean barbecue. A few years ago, I would have agreed with lost of these by giving this place 2 to 3 stars. However, my most recent trips here in the past two months have changed my mind. There are two menu items that are, at least in my opinion, really good and warrant 4 stars: the short rib cube and the herb pork belly. These were not on the menu when I ate here two or three years ago, but they make the place worth it now. If you eat these two proteins and only these two proteins along with the rice, the corn cheese, the potato salad and the other banchan you like, you will be satisfied. Don't get the bulgogi or the LA galbi or the chicken or anything else. If you want to get your money's worth, get those two meat dishes only. What then brings this place to 5 stars is the price. It is a solid deal compared to the other Kbbq places in the Hollywood/K-town area. Unfortunately, if you come at the wrong times, you will face a long wait, sometimes more than an hour.
