This is a new favorite! My husband and I went for a date night. We had no wait to be seated, as there was only one other party eating at the time, and more customers arrived throughout our dinner. It's not a huge space, but the atmosphere is quiet and enjoyable. We ordered the chicken Pad Thai and chicken spicy noodles. They gave us a house salad while our entrees were prepared, so the wait was not long at all. The food was excellent, and the prices are extremely reasonable for what you get. Service was timely and consistent. Overall a great experience that I hope to have again. The only critique is that when we were looking for it, we first drove right past it, because there's no sign! I was dying to try this place so I took my daughter after dance around 8pm. I ordered pho beef. It was very good. She wasn't very hungry so she went with chicken satay. It was ok. However.... They don't offer hoisin sauce or red chili oil which is a first for me and I'm a very experienced PHO eater BUT it was good so that's just me being candid. I added the Thai chilis and it was just as good. Most important and sad: The server, a man, seemed to not really want us there which is unfortunate bc I have been itching for PHO since moving back from Greensboro. I'm not sure why he wasn't very nice bc the reviews are excellent for this place. Sadly I will never dine in again. I may order to go which will lose its appeal since soups like PHO aren't the same if you don't eat in. So it's unlikely I will even order to go. And yes, I understand the language barrier but he was not nice and it took everything in me to not leave. Overall: I am glad danville has somewhere like this to get variety and culture but I will hold out for Greensboro. Such a shame and whoever the server was, I wish he would've been decent. When you first walk in, the ambiance is quite nice (though you're kinder put off by its location at first... in a bit of a run down area). Once inside it's quite charming and elegant at first glance. Once seated for a while, you notice small things things askew like the front door which is not being used and should be covered by their front curtain since it's locked anyway...maybe it's left showing for fire code and can be opened from the inside. The paint has splotches of dirt on it in places and the vents in the ceiling are falling out in places. Aside from that, the tables look lovely and the decor is nice. The only other downfall was the AC was was not working well enough. It was 87 out and it was too warm inside. Not sweltering or anything but not as cool as you would like it when eating dinner. And this is a small thing but worth mentioning... the fork handles are round and when you try to spin them to eat pasta (like pad Thai noodles) it is very difficult. As for the food, we had the cold chai tea, dumplings, spring rolls, salad with peanut dressing, shrimp paid Thai, and chicken pad Thai and everything was delicious!! Overall Moon River is one of the best places to eat in Danville. The lunch menu is very reasonably priced at less than $10 a meal which includes a starter either spring roll, soup or salad and your entree (shrimp, chicken or vegetarian). I enjoy being surprised by the starter every time. The vegetable spring rolls are EXCELLENT, salad of course always good, but last time the soup at lunch was some type of spicy crab in a clear broth and SOOOO good! Dinner is also yummy but the calamari comes with tempura vegetables mixed in which is not bad per se but is frustrating when you only want your tempura squid. Overall excellent choice. read more

We found out about this restaurant on Yelp. What a hidden jewel this place is. We walked in the front door and we walked down the steps to be seated I fell in Love with decor and aura of the place. Within seconds we were greeted by our server. We looked over the menu for some time as this was our 1st visit. We on the Crispy Rolls and Shrimp Blankets. They were both crispy and tasted wonderful. The sauce they are served with is to die for. For our entrees we had Ginger Chicken and the Moon River Steak. The Ginger Chicken was a very large portion and just the prefect amount of ginger and lemongrass. The dish was full of flavorful mushrooms. The Moon River Steak was a large Steak with mixed veggies and Jasmine Rice. The sauce was so spicy and sweet but it was addictive. I put in on the rice and veggies. The steak had more fat on it than I liked and is was a bit under cooked for my taste. The decor and atmosphere is not something we've expected to find in Danville. This is comparable to something you would find in DC or Charlotte. Our server, Areshika, was a 10 with her customer service. She was very attentive and made suggestions since it was our first visit. Visiting the Danville area and decided to check this Thai restaurant for dinner. The crispy garlic duck was super duper delicious!

We had dinner here the other night and really enjoyed it, surprising to find a quality Asian place in Danville. Located beside the old theater on N. Main, parking is on the left side of the building. You actually enter by the door on a recessed porch on the front rather than the door that is out front closest to the street. Inside it's very nicely decorated with a bar area and a dining area that's down a few steps. The server was super nice, filled our water immediately and came back shortly with our tempura vegetable and calamari appetizer. It came with a sweet and slightly spicy dipping sauce. Everything was fried perfectly and tasted great. Next she brought us a couple small salads with lettuce, tomato, cuke and a really delicious peanut dressing. I ordered massaman curry duck for my entree. It was bit out of balance to the sour side, but I love sour so it didn't really affect my opinion of the taste as it cut thru the richness of the duck. The portion was a bit small for the price though. My Mom had the chicken satay skewers and they were very good as well. Slightly charred from grilling with sides of peanut sauce and sweet vinegared cukes. Good portion for being an appetizer. Really happy to have found this spot and will surely be coming back when visiting our relatives here. read more

Wow, really impressed with this place. Definitely not what I expected from Danville. Both the decorum, atmosphere, and exquisite taste seems more like a hot new joint you'd find in Downtown Raleigh. My cousin and I split the panang curry with chicken. Really great bold flavors. We also each ordered a coconut martini. The drinks were strong, yet flavorful! Couldn't beat the price. Found Moon River Thai via Yelp, a group of four of us were in town just for the night and I am so glad we stopped here instead of one of the chain restaurants. The food was great, all of us had something different and all were very impressed with taste and freshness. Cons were the discombobulated entry way, the door on the porch wasn't well labeled and even those working there seemed confused that we were entering but the other door opens on top of tables where people sit! They treated my sister and I like queens. We ordered from their new Asian Southern fusion menu. We got the fried green tomatoes with curried shrimp for an appetizer. Awesome Thai restaurant. Can't believe Danville has this gem! Everything is so fresh, good presentation and the decor is nice as well. Prices are very reasonable. I've been twice so far and will return. We have had the steamed dumplings, ginger chicken, ginger shrimp and the basil fried rice. If you like Ginger it is fresh and a lot! Also the Tom Kha soup. The small order of the soup is a large in some restaurants. We also had a house Basil cocktail that was delicious. I don't think there is a wrong choice on the menu! Also if you're really into Thai food then you know about sticky rice w/mangoes for dessert. They weren't on the menu but we asked and they prepared it. Service is great. Enjoy! Takeout orders are almost always wrong. Just last week we ordered a seafood dish and was given chicken. Standard Thai fare is cooked ok but the nothing on the menu is really star worthy. Danville really needs more spice in town and Moon River doesn't make the cut. read more

Delicious! I was in Danville for work and had it two nights in a row. Penang curry and yellow curry were both full of flavor and fresh ingredients. You get a lot of food with each entree. I ordered mine for take out and it was ready in 15 minutes. The inside is quaint and looks upscale. No signage outside to identify its Moon River - not much else on the block so you'll figure it out. Food took forever to come out. I think it came out close to an hour after we ordered. The service was great (which seems to be how it is anywhere in this town), however, the food was not all that great. I suppose its one of the more exotic food spots in the town, but having real Thai food and vast choices/availability in the Washington D.C. area, this place was underwhelming. The pineapple fried rice was so-so...the prices and portions are pretty good, but aside from that, the food was just so so. The panang curry was just average and most things tasted a bit watered down or lacked flavor. Regretted going there, but I ate what we ordered cause I was hungry and too tired to go elsewhere by the time I already ate the stuff. Ordered the mango with sticky rice, and again... underwhelmed. They were a bit busy, and waitress forgot to ask us as to whether or not we wanted dessert and just gave us the check. Had to ask for her to go back and bring us the dessert.
