I used to absolutely love this place. Great value. Quality food. Great selection. However the service has been disappointing on a couple of occasions. Once I simply asked to sub a meatless roll for the pork egg roll on a combo meal (they are the same price) and was told "no, that is not possible." That is a small thing, but the unwillingness to compromise on something so small REALLY turned me off. The woman who took my order that night just generally seemed unknowledgeable regarding the menu and not eager to help me find something that fit my preferences. I found that Uncle Wok, which is just a street over, is very accommodating when i ask to sub a pork-free roll for the roll that comes with the combo. They are always eager to offer suggestions, explain menu items and help me locate something on the menu. Tonight i decided to give Moon Wok another try. They close at 10, according to their website, so I called at 8:55 for delivery and was told "we stop delivering at 9." Again, a small thing and I guess it makes sense that they want to wrap things up and go home early, however I called Uncle Wok, which also closes at 10 and they had no problem delivering at 8:55-9 p.m. It doesn't seem wise, in this competitive market, to deny customers services that the guys a street over offer. Moon Wok is great if you know exactly what you want to order, by corresponding menu number, and you do so well within the confines of operating hours. However, for their willingness to offer great service, I prefer Uncle Wok on Abrams. read more

From where I live, when I want real Chinese other than my wife's cooking, I just jump in the car and head to Rowland Heights. There, a myriad of restaurants await with all styles that you could ever want. When a review says Americanized Chinese food, I translate that to what Taco Bell is to Mexican food. No great expectations, with Panda Express being the general baseline for comparison. With Moon Wok, the owner needs to walk into the store as a customer and truly look around the restaurant. What I see are broken blinds, dirty tables, the black missing porcelain in the urinal, old paint, and chili oil containers that have not been washed in a long time. sad, because this is a location with a lot of potential. Service was good. It is odd, in that you choose a table number when you order. Some guy grabbed my table while I was ordering so there was a little confusion. It happened with other customers as well. I did appreciate the conversation from the back with one of the girls stating that whatever food they were looking at was spoiled. The cook(?) didn't seem to agree but I think/hope she won??? To me, take the loss throwing out food rather than make a customer sick. As for the food, I had the schezchuan shrimp lunch special with fried rice. The portions are huge. The egg roll was overcooked. Soup was decent. Don't worry about needing soy sauce, they have that covered for you. The fried rice was just soy sauce and rice. Even Chung King would be embarrassed. I need to check myself, I should not have expected peas, carrots, scrambled egg, onions, etc. Americanized is white rice and soy sauce! Same goes with the shrimp, the recipe consisted of green peppers, a few carrots, peanuts, and a lot of soy sauce. Did I mention you don't need to add soy sauce? I refilled my drink five times! A nice staff, poor recipes, and a location that needs a face lift. I am sure the reason most people come are the huge portions. That is not a bad thing, it is just not what I was hoping to find. OMG!! This Chinese food is amazing! It is the best place I have been to in the past 2 years. It's 100 Times better then the other places I have tried. The lo mein was very good. Can't believe the other places I been to they can mess lo mein up so badly. The orange chicken was good the orange peel was nice to be in it. You can taste the citrus from it. The moo goo gai pan was the best I have had yet. The Creme sauce was light and not gooey or heavy like some other places. Fried rice was okay, Wished they had snow peas or egg or onion in it. Lo mein had a great taste to it. Next I want to try the sweet sour chicken. Sesame chicken, Jalapeño chicken, And some stuff I have never had. I wish they had pot stickers an sweet sour pork but oh we'll. I'm giving this place 5 stars because I am very picky about Chinese food. Initially, we went there because my boyfriend's 10 year old son had said it was good, and it has a funny name. It's very casual and usually pretty busy. The kiddo was right! It is really good! Very fresh, no soggy chicken and it's good quality chicken, not mystery meat. The heat/spiciness varies a little. Some days it's not hot, and other's it's got a kick, but that just tells me that a human is back there making it from scratch. And it's like six bucks for an entree, soup, and egg roll. The portions are enough for 3 meals, or two hungry ones! Everyone is super nice there and the girl behind the counter is so sweet and remembers our usual order. We're there about once a week. The only thing I'm not wild about is the soup. The consistency of the soup is a little gelatinous. It has good flavor, but it's too thick. The other thing that bothers me is dumb - the menus on the wall are hung crooked. LOL! I want to straighten them every time. read more

Great Chinese American restaurant in the Dallas area! That Panda restaurant has nothing on this restaurant. This place serves some awesome Chinese American food. The Szechuan beef is my favorite. This spicy dish includes slices of tender beef, plenty of vegetables, and rice (steamed or fried). The egg roll is also included. The egg roll is crispy and steaming hot. Yum! You also get to choose a soup. I like the hot and sour soup; it's not thick and full of flavor. The prices for the entrees are very affordable. They use fresh vegetables, and it's cooked to order. Plenty of seating too. The gigantic menu is displayed on the side wall when you walk in. They do not use MSG, and the food is not salty or greasy. read more

Great food and amazing proportions. Left there stuffed. First place to have been to where you get not 5 or 6, but TEN fried dumplings in the appetizer. Shrimp Broccoli was flavorful, with the shrimp and veggies BOTH cooked perfectly. Garlic Shrimp was delightful. Most places it's just in a bland brown sauce. This was marked as spicy, and was just the right amount of spicy to loosen my sinuses without leaving a burning in my mouth and throat. Fried rice was tender, good flavor, and not mushy nor dried out. Prices are amazing for the quality, and especially the quantity, of food you receive. First time getting moon wok and I must say it is pretty delicious. The serving is more than enough to feed 3 people. I ordered combination fried rice with no vegetables and no shrimp. The cooks proportioned the chicken to pork ratio out pretty well. I only took about 5 to 6 bites and was full already. The rice is cooked to perfection and the chicken and pork is so tender. If you're in the area, go to Bobo China instead. The food at Moon Wok is mediocre at best. The reason for my rating is the lack of quality customer service. The cashier rang up an extra order, which I didn't catch until later. She apologized and was about to refund my card, but the manager came out and angrily said that I couldn't have my money back because they had already cooked the extra order. If he had been polite and apologetic, I wouldn't have minded so much. But evidently it wasn't in his best interest to ensure that I would return to Moon Wok. read more

I called in a lunch order yesterday afternoon around 2:30pm and went inside around 2:40pm to pick it up. I paid and sat there for about 15 minutes only to find out that my food had been sitting there ready to take. I was a little angry at this point because I was late for work but when I finally ate it -- WHEW! That chicken terriyaki bento box was BOMB! Hands down one of the best Chinese food places in the Dallas area! The portions are HUGE! I especially enjoy the orange chicken here. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, this place uses real white meat chicken. The chicken is also only lightly breaded, so you're not getting a mouthful of breading. The hunan triple crown is also delicious. Lots of meat and great flavor! The prices are unbelievably cheap for what you get. A large portion of orange chicken is $9 with fried rice. The portions were huge, but when we asked if we could trade one meal for a different one because we didn't like it we were first told that it would be fine, but then it was brought back to us and we were told that we had eaten too much of it to exchange it for a different meal.
