We made a reservation for the second weekend they opened. We started with the wedge salad, it was probably the best I've ever had. The blue cheese and the dressing were perfectly balanced, not too strong. Then we had the Squeakers, deep fried cheese curds with ranch dressing. We loved them and would definitely get them again. For Pizza we ordered Fancy Cheese, it was simple but delicious. Since we were there early on there was some issues, our pizza took almost an hour to come out as well as the table next to us. But they gave us free custard for the wait. Custard was creamy and the perfect end to our fantastic meal! read more

I have been waiting for this place for a year. I loved the vibe and the service. However, our initial pizza was burnt(the server said that was how they come however I've been to all the good places Pietrini, Truly, Beachwood, Tribute, Folk none are that black of an undercarriage), which they remade and it was much better. We also tried the pan, which was ok. I would give the large regular cheese a 6.5 on the one bite scale. I would try again when they are less busy. read more

Hands down one of the best pizza places around. Not only is the food excellent, the staff is amazing. From the second you walk in to the minute you leave, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I could not be happier for our neighborhood family pizzeria! I am grateful for the owner Hal taking us on his journey with creating Mooney's! I have been following his Instagram posts for about a year. My husband and I were able to squeeze in two seats at the bar earlier this week. It was a weekday right when they opened at 4pm. There was a line that was around the building. My first thought was.... what is this? It's not Big Thunder Mountain or the Matterhorn!! NO - It was a line for PIZZA! The first thing I noticed upon walking in was the large staff! They were ready for the night, and everyone seemed to work together and proud to serve everyone who was probably trying Mooney's for the first time. We were in and out of there in less than an hour and our pizza and meatballs were absolutely flawless! I am not a fan of super "dense" meatballs, and these were perfect. These little nuggets were perfectly packed and plenty of sauce! Nothing but a great experience and here I am to proclaim that Mooney's is now our GO TO pizzeria! Mooney's pizza was exceptional. The ambiance of the place is fantastic from the green booths, to the custom light fixtures that give early 90s Pizza Hut vibes(in the best way possible). Now for the food, house bread was light and airy accompanied by a sweet and spicy butter that was straight up addicting. We ordered 3 pizzas, double pepperoni, classic and delicious, ragu(my personal favorite), it tasted like lasagna on a crispy crust. And the sausage and Swiss chard, a little sweet, a little earthy, order this one. House made thick and rich custard wrapped up the entire meal, we lucked out and had peanut butter and chocolate for our flavors but they seem to change quite frequently. The owner Hal is not only incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about everything in that restaurant but also is running a great beer program that I feel like is a reason to show up and patronize this place in itself. Wonderful neighborhood restaurant is such a welcome addition to the East LB/Los Al area. Mooney's has been documenting their journey of opening the restaurant for almost a year and we are glad they have finally opened their doors. Great pizza, delicious craft beers, and a warm and lively environment. Both the thin crust and pan pizzas were great. I am a local Long Beach Business owner myself and ive been driving down wardlow and been admiring the remodel, however i brought my family and my newborn as a walk in and staff was rude they said they will not take us in without a reservation which i get it since it was busy what i am more upstet about is The Owner was there and didnt seem to care and they were refusing various families....i wish this business the best food looks good and ambience looks on point but need friendlier staff by the desk and not refuse service read more

I was very excited to try this place out after seeing so many reviews online. Normally, I do not fall for these but I got pulled into it after seeing it was right down the street for me. I ordered the salad which come out almost instantly, and for $13, I was disappointed by the proportion size. It then took 40 minutes for two pizzas to come out and it felt like it wasn't even right out of the oven. The flavor overall was subpar and the dough was very floppy. One other thing that bothered me was the uneven pizza cuts. I don't want to be a snob but for $21+ for a pizza, I expect even cuts. In my opinion, Domino's is better. The only highlight was my server, Jaden, who was very friendly and tried to be attentive as possible. Sadly, I will not be returning to this place. read more

Overall, it was just okay. The server was nice, and the place is new and clean. The portions for the appetizers are small for the prices. We had the squeakers with ranch and the meatballs. The ranch needs more seasoning. The meatballs were good,, but again, expensive for 3 small meatballs. The pizza wasn't mind blowing. The crust was alright, but it was very basic pizza. I think that it's a very trendy looking place, but the food needs a little more work. I will maybe give it a few months before trying again since they just opened and they are still fine tuning things. read more

First time visit last week to Mooney's Pizza, it was my Son's B-Bay, we walked in and it was very busy people waiting. Open seats at the bar area, no problem being seated right away!. I use to go there when the place was Hof's, the building transformed very nicely, it was clean with a very cool looking layout. Great variety of craft beers and a exotic menu to choose from with fair pricing. We had a great time, the service was great and my son received a free B-Day ice cream and cookie (very very tasty). Pie oh my! How can I describe a pizza place that has that fun, casual, welcoming, neighborhood atmosphere but with food that's elevated just enough to make it well above your average pizza, yet not so bougie that it hardly resembles pizza??? We went to the soft opening last night, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting to be blown away - but I was! Fir appetizers we tried the fries, chicken wings and Brussels sprouts (unfortunately they'd run out of cheese curds). Everything was done perfectly! Fries were perfectly crisp and seasoned nicely, wings were meaty and cooked to perfection- golden crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. We dipped ours in the very tasty house made bleu cheese dressing. Brussels sprouts were slightly overcooked but still had a wonderful flavor and we loved the addition of the walnuts. Now the pizza...I don't even know which element to highlight, crust, the sauce or the cheese, they were all outstanding in their own right and together made the best pizza I've eaten in a very long time! The crust was thin and soft with just enough chew, the sauce was very flavorful, traditional yet not sweet or acidic or overly spicy, just perfect actually. And I don't know what cheeses they use but you can smell the cheese even before you bite into it and the flavor shines through and is pretty amazing actually. Together the perfect combination for most any toppings. We stuck with the classic pepperoni and supreme last night and will definitely be returning to try them all! The service was great, friendly and attentive and with how busy they were last night I couldn't believe they were able to get the food out quickly and so consistently well prepared. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the restaurant and the food - BRAVO to the owners and to the chef. Very, very well done! read more

We went on a busy night and sat at the bar and ordered a small pepperoni pizza with ricotta. It was so busy we waited over an hour to sit at the bar and were so excited to try this pizza. We were so hungry that when our pizza arrived we quickly dug into it; I noticed that it was really saucy. Upon getting out of the chaos which was the restaurant and inspecting the leftover pizza later at home we realized that this pizza did not have any mozzarella cheese on it! I have left a complaint on the restaurant phone voicemail but have yet to hear back. read more

Great new place! Went early on a Saturday night and it was packed. Sign at front door basically said that they were not taking walk-ins , but we went and asked anyway. They had no tables, but were were able to sit a the first come, first serve bar. Place was very nice inside. Tons of staff working, all of which were very engaging. Guy behind the bar took care of our food and drink orders. Pizza was delicious, and that's coming from a pizza snob. Crust and sauce were spot on. They made this a great pizza. Tried the cheese curds which were nothing special and the frozen custard was OK. Price for a large 3 topping was around $28, which is is becoming the norm for dine in. If you are looking for a really good pizza, this is the place. A few comments...this is a NEW place and they are still working all the kinks out. Some of the early reviews are from the first week or two they were open. It will only get better. They will get to a point where they can do take out pizza, but until then, sit at the bar if you can't get a rest and enjoy a good meal from some real friendly folks. read more

We were recommended this place and wanted to try it out. We came by on a Friday and it was really busy and they had no reservations so we left. Came back on a Sunday since we noticed that they had reservations close to the time we showed up. We decided to wait the hour we were told. Thankfully, we were given a table a lot sooner. After we were seated, we were greeted and asked if we wanted to order drinks. I ordered a seltzer and my husband ordered a beer. They were both really good and cold. We decided to order the buffalo chicken wings and the 12 inch pizza with pepperoni. My husband asked the server if the chicken wings were crispy and he said yes. When the chicken wings arrived, we noticed that they felt soggy. I would assume they can do sauce on the side if you want the crispy wings. The wings were just OK for us. They had too much fat for our liking. The pizza was really really good and we loved the pepperoni. The crust has to be one of my favorite crust I've ever had. It's soft and crispy at the same time and has lots of flavor. I didn't notice other people ordering salads and they looked really yummy. I can't wait to go back and try some other salads. Even though the place is really busy it doesn't feel chaotic when you're sitting. Service was great and at no time did I ever feel ignored or rushed. We ordered two custard cups. One was cheesecake and the other one was butter pecan. The butter pecan one was good but the cheesecake one was way way too sweet for us. read more

We went to Mooney's for the first time tonight. We started with the squeakers which were delicious. We then got the Ragu pizza and cheese pizza for the kids. Both were incredibly delicious. The staff was super friendly, bathrooms were clean and they have a really interesting beer and wine list. We finished with the lemon and pistachio custard. Highly recommend.
