Homeslice serves up some of the best pizza I've ever had in Texas. It's thin but still has a solid amount of ooey gooey goodness. I grabbed a slice of the margherita and pepperoni to go on my way back to Dallas and my car smelled like absolute heaven. The guys at the counter were super nice and gave me some ice water since I was waiting out in heat outside and had my order ready in a jiffy. My only complaint was that they didn't have boxes and stacked my pizzas on top of each other between plastic plates and stuck it in a bag. Their veggie sub is proportionally mixed well with fresh ingredients and worth a try. Easiest way to ruin a sub is to put too much of one thing on it, and I was a particular fan of their tomatoes and mayo. I did find the bread roll slightly burnt and hard along the end edges, but this sub is definitely worth a revisit. I also came out with a large margherita pizza. I found that there was not enough tomato flavors to found anywhere, neither the sauce nor toppings. Crust was thin and crispy -- good. Toppings weren't flavorful, so it was basically a cheese pizza -- decent. What I can rate exceptional is customer service. I've had better pizza in a cafeteria, seriously. 3 varieties between us- each of them staler, drier, and more bland than the last. That awkward moment when your party of 7 orders and eats at More Home Slice AKA the smaller, more take-outish building of the restaurant thinking that it's the original...oops. Mistakes aside, Home Slice is wonderful! The thin-crust pizza was not something that I was used to, but it was so delicious. We ordered the Margarita Pizza and the classic Pepperoni and Mushroom. The Pepperoni and Mushroom was more on the average side (I was sad it didn't stand out) but the Margarita Pizza made my mouth so happy. The ingredients were super fresh tasting and I don't know where that cheese came from but the "cheesy," milky taste was sublime. The restaurant itself is small and not meant for sitting/dining for a long period of time, or for large groups, but if you're in for a quick slice, it does the trick. When my Austin friends found out that I've been living here for a good 6 months and still haven't had Homeslice they were appalled. I decided to remedy that problem, but on a Tuesday. I walked up to Homeslice and was so sad when it said closed on Tuesdays, but thankfully MORE Homeslice, right next door, was open. I don't have a preference when it comes to NY or Chicago style pizza because I just really, really like pizza. I was definitely impressed. I ordered two slices without thinking about the size and ate them both because it was that delicious. I didn't want to waste a heavenly, greasy bite. Prices are great for such huge slices! Seating is really limited in this location so if you're not okay with being friendly to the stranger next to you and bar stool style seating then I suggest going to the other location. read more

Arrived 9pm on a Tuesday night. It was raining and I parked in front of the church. The main restaurant was crowded as usual, so I went to the smaller take out place since it was just me eating the pizza. There were people waiting inside, but it wasn't too crowded. The person manning the register was friendly and I decided on a #6 large (sausage ricotta cheese, and roasted pepper) and a bottle of coke. I took my coke and sat down and waited for my pizza. After 20 minutes it was ready! I immediately ran past the rain and drove home to eat my prize. The pizza was really tasty, but the ricotta cheese was bland and only added some texture to the pizza. I ate about 5 pieces in one setting and finished the rest the next day. I was very thirsty after eating so definitely have a good drink on hand. read more

am i the only one in austin that doesnt think home slice and more slice isn't "da bomb"? yeah they have thin crust and its sort of like new york. but i just think new york style pizza is better in new york than austin. even at the airport in JFK the new york style pizza just tastes better. to me the crust is to tough and cardboard like for me - more like frozen pizza. still if your craving this style of pizza which used to be the normal style of pizza before pizza hut and dominio's this is about one of the few places in town you can get this stuff. read more

So far, this place has the best New York style pizza I've had in Austin. I went in a little after noon and didn't have to wait more than 7 or 8 minutes to order and get my pizza. I'm sure it is more busy at night though. I had a slice of pepperoni and a slice of sausage and garlic. I tried the sausage and garlic first and it was amazing! The pepperoni was also very good. Amazing food! But tiny little restaurant. I understand it's small because it's just the carry out part but I'm from out of state and it was a Tuesday. The actual restaurant is closed Tuesdays!! These guys bailed me out at the last minute for a work lunch! They were able to provide 6 large, freshly baked pizzas, with salad and the fixings on 30 minutes notice. I cannot say enough about how they bent over backward to provide lunch for 20 people when the downtown restaurant fell through. The goods of my visit: Watching the guy behind the counter prepare the dough by throwing it in the air, no line, and the pepperoni slice was better than the margarita. The unenjoyable part: a number of the pepperoni's and bottom of the pizza were burnt! Black. I've never had a margarita pizza the way they served it. It was basically a cheese pizza with a bunch of diced tomatoes and a slivers of basil thrown on top. When you're expecting to get the taste of fresh mozzarella and sauce, that was sad. Overall, a pretty disappointing experience considering I chose them based on the stellar reviews. I'm sure they make great pizza at times, but when I can get a whole pizza at places of lesser quality for what I paid for two slices you expect a higher level of product served and not burnt whatsoever. If I hadn't seen the long lines and giant "Home Slice" sign, I wouldn't believe that I had eaten at the same restaurant as everyone else. I went to Home Slice expecting great pizza, but I was really let down. I ordered an eggplant pizza. The wait was about 30 minutes, which, considering how many people were there, wasn't bad. But the pizza was nothing better than mediocre. In fact, I would rate it below average. It kind of tasted like it had been spinning around at a gas station on a mettle plate under a heat lamp. You could smell the delicious pizza from outside. It tasted just as good as it smelled. The pepperoni and margherita slices were super tasty. The comfy stools were quite relieving as we had walked a ton and the music was good. The only downside was when I ordered my pizza, I asked for a glass of ice water and the guy didn't give it to me.
